Shan and RJ went Inside The Star and discussed the Cowboys’ outlook at pick No. 12, highlighting LSU corner Mansoor Delane and the debate between his 4.38 speed and trusting the tape. They also talked about a potential George Pickens extension, how it could compare to recent wide receiver deals, and more.

00:00In all the mock drafts that have been coming out, it feels like, or it has felt like,
00:04maybe until the recent ones, that the Cowboys may have their pick of corner at 12.
00:12And the number one name that has the least amount of worries and concerns is LSU's Mansoor Delain.
00:20Well, I'm wondering, because evaluation people can fall for one impressive workout as well.
00:28That's why you've got a lot of bad teams out there.
00:30I wonder if Delain's 40-time moves him up the board as yesterday.
00:36A lot of people at his workout had him with back-to-back 4-3-8s.
00:41Oh, baby.
00:41He was burning out there, showing off the speed.
00:44That's big. That is big.
00:46And, you know, you see these 40-times at the Combine versus the Pro Day,
00:51and you see the players, how they perform at the Combine versus the Pro Day.
00:57And now, with everybody having these indoor facilities, you know, they're basically all on turf now.
01:01Anyway, as opposed to being out back in the day, they were out on the grass on your regular field.
01:06So, I mean, that's a good number.
01:08That's a really good number to throw out there.
01:10And I have to go back and see what it looked like compared to the Combine for all these players,
01:16and not just them, but all these players, and which one you want to take.
01:18Like, you know, you went to the Combine number, the Pro Day number, the handheld, the laser,
01:23you know, whatever, each team, each scout's going to have their preference, I'm sure.
01:27But that's a 4-3.
01:29And, I mean, holy cow.
01:30I hope some GM isn't like, oh, okay, we haven't been talking about corner.
01:37Let's go ahead and move him up a little bit because I would love, love.
01:40You walk away from day one, and you're telling me that you got the best cornerback in the draft,
01:46or your pick of the corners at No. 12, and that makes me really happy.
01:51Still got to produce at 20.
01:52We'll see what happens with the plan.
01:55But a lot of these drafts have had Delane falling to 12.
02:00Yeah, and, like, you know, you can have your pick, and if you pick the wrong guy,
02:03then it's, I mean, you still did the research.
02:06You know, it's like, do you get sway?
02:08This is what I always, you know, worry about with the combine and stuff.
02:12Do you let these numbers sway you?
02:17Like, do you say you had, if you had...
02:20Well, it's like Bain.
02:20It's the Bain-Indy argument with Broadus and Bobby.
02:24Like, Broadus got a little disgusted when he's watching Reuben Bain throughout the entire year,
02:29and all of us up to the playoff and watching his run are like,
02:34this guy is a force.
02:35This guy's a monster.
02:36The two Hurricane DNs are a problem.
02:39And now you're going to sit here and tell me that everything I saw, and as good as he was,
02:45is going to be negated and offset by a short arm measurement,
02:49and that's where the whole trust the tape moniker comes in.
02:52Are you going to be swayed away, or are you going to say,
02:55how many...
02:56What I would do is say, how many NFL linemen did he go up against in college?
03:03What did he do against them?
03:04And if he had a lot of that success, I'm not worried about the arms.
03:09Yeah, and on the flip side, if you thought Delane was the second or third best corner,
03:16you shouldn't say, well, he's got to go as the top corner now because he ran a 4-3.
03:22You know, if...
03:23Now, if this may be...
03:24What if it was a 4-6?
03:26Right.
03:26Yeah.
03:27Yeah, right.
03:27Now, does this...
03:29I'm like, okay, it's fine not to take him.
03:32We ran a 4-6, but then we go the other way.
03:34Now you're into slow-ish linebacker world.
03:39But, you know, like this would confirm if you thought it was the best.
03:43This would confirm it.
03:44And that's probably how most of these teams take it.
03:47Okay, so yesterday everyone was reacting to the breaking news we had,
03:52not to our topic and our breaking news, but Jackson Smith and Jigba got 42 a year.
03:59This was about 8.30 yesterday, and we talked about how it could affect the Pickens.
04:04I think we all came away with the feeling that it's not a positive for Jerry and Steven
04:09because if you're George Pickens and JSN just got 42, you're like,
04:14okay, I'm not that far away.
04:16First off, George Pickens believes he's as good as JSN.
04:18That's how these guys think.
04:19That's what's important.
04:20What are George Pickens and David Muligheta thinking and feeling, right?
04:25Jamar Chase, Justin Jefferson, maybe George Pickens says, okay, I get it.
04:29I get it.
04:29JSN, very good player, but I'm not that far away from him.
04:34And Bobby's fear was it raises the floor.
04:36It raises the floor for GP's salary.
04:40So you had a lot of people reacting to that cowboy component.
04:44And Mike Florio and RJ Ochoa said, wow, just imagine if the Cowboys got a George deal done
04:53when they first traded for him, we would not be in this position.
04:57And I'm taking some issue with that.
05:00We can't pretend like we have the hindsight 2020 crystal ball with everything.
05:08We just can't.
05:10Yes.
05:10Right now, if George Pickens was signed and under contract, we'd be feeling really good about it.
05:18And we'd be like, Dallas, good job.
05:20It's off our plate.
05:22We don't have to sweat it.
05:23But man, if they would have traded for George, who we all had, we'd just all conveniently forget
05:29once he puts a star on the side of his helmet.
05:31Same with all local teams once they wear your team's colors.
05:34This was the biggest cancer and problem child, arguably, in the entire NFL.
05:38And you're telling me after you sign him, you're going to give him $34, $35 million a year?
05:44I at least would have questioned that and probably lost my mind over it.
05:48This is before he goes out and plays.
05:50Come on.
05:50We all had questions.
05:51Everybody had questions.
05:53We didn't know what he was going to be.
05:54He was somebody who had the talent, but also had that knucklehead to him.
06:01It was fair to have questions.
06:03If they had signed him to – now, what could they have gotten for him?
06:06What could they have gotten him for, I should say?
06:09Three years?
06:10If you're telling me they could have signed him up for three years and $18 million a year
06:15at the time, right?
06:17Yeah, good luck.
06:17Yeah, good luck.
06:18But let's say they could have.
06:19Let's say they could have done that.
06:21Okay, I could have taught myself into the risk.
06:24I could have taught myself into the risk.
06:25But that's like –
06:26But that's not really realistic.
06:27Not even coming – it's not even like 1% realistic.
06:3018 a year?
06:31When they traded for him?
06:33Yeah.
06:34Well, I'll tell you this.
06:35What was he getting to – I mean, come on.
06:37If he was getting – what was he going to get?
06:40I mean, I know it was going to be more than 18.
06:43He was going to be in the 20s.
06:45Well, if he was going to be in the 20s before last year, then you got no chance of keeping
06:50him less than 38 right now.
06:52None.
06:53Because he had far in a way exceeded any expectation anybody had.
06:59If he was going to be 22, 23, 24, I mean, you better just pony up 40.
07:04I don't know of RJ.
07:05This is called getting ratioed in Ochoa's chat and his X and his responses.
07:12But he tweeted it out.
07:13But imagine if the Cowboys extended when they first traded for him.
07:1753 retweets, 195 responses.
07:19Is that getting ratioed?
07:20Does that mean the internet's telling you they don't like what you had to say?
07:24Yeah, you got to look at the likes, too, the amount of likes.
07:26397.
07:28397, 195 responses, 53 retweets.
07:31Not as bad.
07:32Not as bad.
07:33I've seen worse.
07:33I've seen worse, but that's a little ratio.
07:36I just – look, we all justifiably take our shots at Jerry and Steve in front office,
07:4130-year drop, but we can't.
07:43It can't be a fall for everything.
07:45You wanted them to give him 30, 30, $28 million a year as soon as he signed.
07:53We didn't know what he was going to be.
07:55It felt like a tremendous gamble.
07:56You have to remember the reality of the situation in the moment.
08:00So that was Florio, and that was RJ Ochoa with some George Pickens questions.
08:06I'm going to go ahead and defend them on that.
08:08All right, the Cowboys are going to have – I guess they had a private dinner with SMU wide receiver
08:14Romello Brinson last night.
08:16He's supposed to be a day three selection.
08:19So a lot of Cowboy fans, even though they may support SMU, were not thrilled about that.
08:23Like, why are we wasting dinner bills on day three projects?
08:26And then Chris Sims is getting crushed for coming out with his 2026 wide receiver board.
08:35And a guy that you were asking whether the Cowboys should take if he was possibly there,
08:40you were giving some consideration to it, is coming in at number four on Chris Sims' board.
08:47This is the big headliner, Carnell Tate, not a top three guy, according to the Top Button.
08:53Yeah, he's got Tate in Tier 2.
08:56So Tier 1, Denzel Boston from Washington and Jordan Tyson from Arizona State.
09:02That's Tier 1.
09:03Tier 2, Chris Brazel from Tennessee and then Carnell Tate at Ohio State.
09:09And then Zachariah Branch, Georgia, is your Tier 3 guy.
09:12I love Brazel.
09:13He's a go-up-and-get-it guy.
09:15He is just long, classic jump ball type player.
09:22Kind of reminds me of Pickens a little bit in that.
09:25I think Tate's just a better player.
09:27I don't even think it's much of a discussion.
09:30People went back and did the homework on some of his past wide receiver rankings,
09:34and they're like, when are we going to learn not to listen to this guy?
09:37Last year, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, he had Travis Hunter 1, Kyle Williams 2,
09:42Tett McMillan 3, Jalen Noel 4, Trey Harris 5.
09:48No Luther Burden, no Egbuka, no Matthew Golden,
09:52and obviously we know that Tett is looking like the best of that class right now.
09:572024, he had Malik, that's good.
09:59Brian Thomas Jr., up until last year.
10:02Marvin Harrison, Adunze 4, Roman Wilson 5.
10:06No McConkie, no Worthy, no Ricky Pearsall.
10:112023, he had Zay Flowers, JSN 2, Quinton Johnson 3, Michael Wilson 4, Jalen Hyatt 5,
10:18no Jordan Addison, Tank Dell, or Rasheed Rice above his 3, 4, 5.
10:23So he missed three of the top five.
10:25And then 2022, it got real ugly, it looked like.
10:28He had Jameson Williams 1, Christian Watson, Alec Pierce, Traylon Burks, Drake London,
10:33no Garrett Wilson, no Alave, Jahan Dotson, George Pickens.
10:38So the internet went back and researched, Chris.
10:40They did.
10:41Wide receiver boards.
10:41They did.
10:42I guess, you know, what do you think the number should be out of five that you hit on?
10:52I would say.
10:52I mean, it's tough.
10:53I mean, maybe three.
10:54Yeah, I would say, like, I think you have to hit on at least two, and then, you know,
10:58three puts you in that next level.
11:02Definitely not all five.
11:03Definitely not all five.
11:04But nobody has.
11:06Nobody hits five.
11:07Nobody has Tate four.
11:09No.
11:10No one has Cardinal Tate number four.
11:12I think you, I've seen people have him two.
11:15I've seen people put Tyson ahead of him.
11:17I have not seen anybody have Brazel ahead of him.
11:20That's surprising.
11:22And I don't know about Boston.
11:23I haven't seen his name.
