00:10hope to continue their journeys toward title unification in our main event cuban sensation
00:17and olympic gold medalist joel casamayor will put his wba super featherweight belt and undefeated
00:23record on the line against current naba featherweight champion joe morales also steve fords will defend
00:30his ibf junior lightweight crown in a rematch with john brown who seeks redemption from the once
00:36beaten champ and for openers you'll see the only current world champion with a perfect knockout
00:41record as power punching wbo junior lightweight titleist asilino freitas beats former world champ
00:47alfred cote in a non-title affair as we make our way indoors to the sports and entertainment center
00:55on the grounds of micasuke the last time we featured three world champions from the same weight class
01:00on one fight card was back in 1996 evander holyfield michael moore henry akinwande all heavyweight
01:07champions shared top billing this evening our emphasis on the revitalized and vibrant 130 pound division
01:17hello again everybody steve albert along with former world champion bobby chez ringside from miami
01:22the highly anticipated showdown between joel casamayor and asilino freitas recently hit a pair of bumps
01:28with two scheduled fight dates canceled bobby what do you think will that mega showdown ever take place
01:33well you know steve after the first couple of times it's been postponed mostly freitas's fault i think
01:38casamayor has gotten somewhat frustrated but i sat down with the manager and trainer
01:41of asilino freitas both have assured me this fight not only takes place early in 2002 as early
01:47as january what about the ibf champ steve forbes where does he figure into the equation i'm sure
01:53steve forbes wants to figure himself right in there and should he win tonight that he wants a shot at
01:57one
01:57of the winners of that next fight for another unification at the same time that's no easy
02:01task in his last fight his only real test against john brown he didn't look so good two to three
02:05judges
02:06had him losing so the jury's still out on him right now steve then of course is wbc champ floyd
02:11mayweather jr considered by many the best at 130 pounds will we see the day where mayweather jr
02:18fight somebody from this card to unify the belt well the popular rumor right now is that mayweather
02:22jr is going to go up and look for a title at 135 pounds in the lightweight division even if
02:27that
02:27doesn't happen though sometimes when you have different promoters and contracts it sometimes
02:30makes it very difficult the fighters to get together they can't agree on a lot of things one of the
02:34sad
02:34aspects of boxing but i think mayweather's going up for bigger and better prizes all right bobby
02:38we'll wait and see how it all plays out before we get to our first fight though as usual we
02:43invite

03:02events log on to show.com once again the web address is s-h-o dot com let's get to
03:09it 29 or no
03:10osselino freitas versus alfred cote just as freitas was beginning to develop a following here in the usa
03:16he went into hibernation plagued by personal and promotional problems as well as a struggle to make
03:21weight tonight he's back determined not to knock on the door of stardom in the states but to punch right
03:29through it the public doesn't know aslino popo freitas it's gonna take some time little by little
03:40i'm moving up in the boxing world and soon the boxing world will recognize me
03:46i don't know if it'll be before or after unifying the title
03:51casemayor was a good fighter when he was an amateur he won the olympic gold medal only because i was
03:57too
03:57young to get them myself let him remain champion until he faces me for me casemayor doesn't know anything
04:10and the hard-hitting brazilian osselino freitas beset by distractions also his wedding erasing july and
04:17september dates with joel casemayor who called the cancellations excuses to avoid fighting him
04:22but freitas told us he wishes he were fighting casemayor tonight apparently his problems are
04:27behind him and following an eight-month layoff eager to resume with new trainer oscar suarez bobby
04:32who said for the first time ever freitas had an actual training camp you know what oscar suarez is
04:36a long-time friend i know him almost 25 years i know he knows the business he knows the fighters
04:40he
04:40knows the game and i tend to believe the things that he said we'll see in a short time as
04:45mentioned
04:45osselino freitas got married this past day and there is his lovely new bride eliana and the crowd
04:52cheering him on tonight
04:56and we'll look at alfred cote a natural flyweight former wbo bantamweight champ some quality opposition
05:04long stretches of inactivity though sharp clever boxer but can be a stationary target often reluctant to
05:10trade with opponents he shouldn't fear bobby your overview cote experienced but beyond his prime
05:15freitas always dangerous but will the inactivity and focus be factors well freitas is obviously a
05:20great cruncher with an aggressive style is going to come right at cote which is going to force cote to
05:24move and not be a stationary target that's imperative cote moves and stays on top of his game he could
05:29take this fight until eight rounds but if he stands still this night we'll be short you see the tribal
05:33markings on his face from the god tribe in gone although now residing in the bronx new york let's
05:39check the numbers for this over the weight fight osselino freitas getting the shirt off turned 26
05:46eight days ago seven years younger than cote the height almost even two and a half inch reach advantage
05:51freitas yesterday's weigh-in freitas and cote 134 and a half freitas 139 tonight cote 138 and a half
05:59key rules for this non-title bout no standing eight no three knockdown fight it cannot be saved by the
06:03bell in any round if an accidental headbutt occurs before the end of the fourth it's a technical draw
06:08after the end of the fourth they go to the scorecard so here at micasuke we're getting ready for
06:15osselino freitas and alfred cote scheduled for 10. let's get the formal introductions from our ring announcer
06:21roddy duncan ladies and gentlemen we welcome you to the micasuke indian gaming and resort here in

07:04all right fight fans here we go a 10 round super featherweight special attraction presenting first
07:11in the blue corner wearing the purple trunks with yellow trim fighting out of aqua ghana this young
07:19man weighed in at 134 and one half pounds his professional record is 24 wins seven losses one draw
07:28and 15 knockouts please welcome the former wbo bantamweight champion of the world alfred cote
07:41his opponent tonight across the ring in the red corner wearing the gold and green trunks
07:48from salvador brazil this young man also weighed in at 134 and one half pounds he has an impressive
07:57record 29 wins no losses all wins by knockout please welcome the current wbo junior lightweight champion of the
08:08world assolino popo freedom
08:30gentlemen this is a 10 round fight and you received your instructions i want to remind you this audience is
08:36here to watch you fight so keep it clean touch them up
08:43freitas hasn't fought since late january but his last two fights ending emphatically in the first
08:49forecasting another short night tonight 12 of his 29 knockouts in the first round so don't blink
08:55he goes for the early finish cote fought most of his career at lower weights in his prime a pretty
09:02fast
09:03starter dangerous early as mentioned sharp cute economical with his punches has a good chin he's
09:08never been stopped but not known for great punching power at this point of his career he had above average
09:14power at the lower weights one of the things that oscar suarez afraid is his new trainer said is they've
09:20tried to increase the speed of freight this his power is excellent want to increase his speed so he
09:24gets there a little quicker that is an awesome combination stop
09:30how do you actually increase your speed well there's some different techniques you work on the way you
09:35throw the punch the way you deliver it uh there's paths that the punches travel that are quicker to the
09:41target that's one of the ways freitas emerging from the shanty towns of brazil to become that country's
09:47third world champion and a beloved star they follow him like a movie star he's a matinee idol in brazil
09:55following the footsteps of champions editor joff gray from the 60s and miguel de aloe vera in the 70s
10:01extremely heavy-handed for a little man wicked right good left hook razor sharp accuracy he's a good
10:08right hand to the temple by freitas cote didn't really blink biggest problem for freitas maintaining the weight
10:17freitas confident but not cocky and he is a man in a hurry in the opening round and he's landing
10:24with
10:24rights and lefts you notice too cote's leaning over a lot to his right trying to make
10:30freitas sure along the right hands will take some of the power off but i don't know if he's being
10:33as
10:33effective as he needs to be
10:39freitas has 19 of his 29 knockouts within two rounds 22 and three rounds or less he has never been
10:46past nine
10:49and he averages 2.86 rounds per fight so one of those don't go to the fridge type fight
11:05and he whacks away at the head of cote
11:09he's laying the right hand but he's not landing it as cleanly as i think he'd like
11:12cote is turning on him pretty good which will minimize the power but he's getting hit with too
11:17many of them too early cote who promised he was going to give us a lot more movement so far
11:22we have not seen it he also says his experience will be a big factor here but big talk against
11:28the brazilian freitas he also said that he's going to stick that jab as he gets hit with another right
11:32hand he's going to stick that jab in freitas's face to offset that right hand he's not doing that at
11:37all
11:39freitas surprised us raised our eyebrows when he said he planned to go down to 126 to take on marco
11:44antonio barrera when he's been struggling with his weight and trying to keep it at around 130 and his
11:50trainer attributed that to the fact that he's never had a nutritional program he's never taken
11:54supplements or had real training camp and they find that now they can make the weight much easier
11:59and well we'll see he's still over the weight now at 34 and a half well perhaps a moral victory
12:04for cote who looks to be lasting past the first round
12:13bobby let's get your keys to victory for this fight let's go to ocelino freitas first for him
12:17keep the fight on the inside he's a much better inside fighter next while he's in there work the
12:23body he's aware down to slow down the movement of cote and lastly land his power shots he has
12:28legitimate one punch ko power for cote he's going to want to use speed and outside movement cannot stay
12:34stationary it will get hurt also establish the jab it will offset the right hand and score points while
12:39keeping freitas on the outside and lastly sharp counter punch freitas is going to come forward we know that
12:44make him miss and make him pay
12:52we have 10 more rounds to go just take your time take a look at this right hand over the
12:58top he's
12:58landing it all day that one misses that one lands in a grazing fashion and that one lands a little
13:03more cleanly freitas overworking the right hand but none of them landing fully or cleanly john paul
13:08gonzalez helping us out with the translation oscar suarez was in the face of ocelino freitas
13:15suarez originally from puerto rico making his home in patterson new jersey for many years
13:20once trained nassim hamed omar sheika jose ribalta and antonio he have a show a lot of experience i've
13:27worked with oscar many years and years ago in lu castel sportsman club in patterson he has been around
13:32quite some time freitas told us the long layoff and distractions will not factor in it's very cool
13:38and calm intended to jump on cote early and make this another fast fight well we're into round
13:43two the last two fights prior to tonight freitas put his opponent out in the first one of the things
13:52cote said he really wanted to try and do was take freitas deep and see what he has in the
13:56late rounds
13:56since he's only been nine rounds once he thought that might be proven but he's got to do something
14:00in between he can't just give away all these early rounds right now he's not doing enough to win any
14:05part of the round never mind the whole round freitas a no frills fighter he's all about power
14:12you won't see many jabs from the man in green and gold and blue
14:16he says it's not important to him to maintain that perfect ko record just to keep on winning he's
14:21looking for his 30th victory 29 and 0 29 knockouts
14:32freitas with a right left combination and another left a three-punch combination by freitas to the head
14:37right hand landed pretty good the left hook was blocked but it was so powerful that it drove cote back
14:41two feet
14:41three-punch combination by freitas as per usual forcing the action
14:51cote never down never stopped
15:00but being pressured from the get-go
15:10there's another heavy right hand to the head by freitas another punishing right cross followed
15:14by a left hook see these punches are heavy and they may not show up right away but come around
15:20this seven or eight if we get there those punches will do enormous amount of damage he has heavy hands
15:25that's great explosion explosive blows to the body and head by by freitas
15:33gotte feeling the power of ocelino early
15:51freitas keeping a tremendous pace here very busy landing with almost every punch
15:59although i got to tell you steve a lot of the punches the right hands especially are glancing in
16:02downward motion they're not being as effective as he'd like landing there with the right and a right
16:08hand there two right hands by freitas just before the bell
16:21yes bring the rubber bring the rubber
16:29asking for more water
16:32asking for more water
16:36you'll be born on our trip i don't want to feed back
16:38we shouldn't stand we shouldn't stand keep on moving
16:43keep on moving sideways keep on keep on moving sideways and let the left go let the left go
16:49we'll try the upper control and we'll be able to have a full one no trial
16:52honestly no freitas continuing that overhand right attempting there is that big left hand even
17:00though it's blocked you can see it he drove cote back two feet
17:05later in the round it's still that right hand he's throwing it trying to get it in no matter what
17:09he
17:09does there's a left hook right hand comes over the top they're glancing but they're getting through
17:16he'll be bohemma interpreting for us at the corner 10 years as the manager of cote and the father-in
17:22-law
17:22have got his preeminent fighter azuma nelson
17:27of course the hero of cote
17:31round three a lot of folks surprised that we've gone this far well to his credit cote's never been down
17:39and you know he's got a lot of experience been with some pretty good fighters so you got to expect
17:44he's going to be here for at least a little while but the many periods of inactivity have to take
17:49their toll on cote an absence of fight since april we're told because he couldn't get opponents
17:57promotional problems the usual things we hear with regard to layoffs well i'll tell you what's going
18:02going to take it's toll on him it's going to be those right hands to the top two and left
18:05hook
18:15while freitas is no frills cote is all frills when you look at his fronts
18:25fredis in the green cote in the burgundy a nice left hook to the body by phrase after the right
18:31hand to
18:31the chin there was a little bit of winch to come out of uh his opponent cote didn't like the
18:37body shot
18:38cote former wbo bantamweight champion 24 7 and 1 15 knockouts
18:47he is unrated by any major organization but this is a non-title fight
19:02hey you get him up get him up let's go yeah referee tommy kevin cautioning freitas to keep those punches
19:09higher one of the left hooks their body traveled a little far south of argentina
19:20little blood from the right nostril of freitas
19:24definitely cote's throwing more punches in this round and landed some better shots
19:27not enough to win but enough to let freitas know he's still there if anything picking up the
19:33urgency of the brazilian
19:41body shot followed by higher shots to the head by freitas
19:45and that right hand had to sting cote and pepering him with the left jab is freitas
19:51setting up the power shot like that straight right to the nose all freitas
19:59just smothering cote target practice right now for osselino freitas
20:06as we head for the bell of round three
20:18we're doing good here we're working this very good
20:21but you're going too fast i need for you to take your time
20:27use your two hands body shots with two heads
20:34take some breathe for me there you go
20:39close your eyes for a second there
20:46very good
20:50we're going to watch osselino freitas coming he's going to throw a left hook it's going to come
20:53down and it's going to come up it's just going to be belt borderline just maybe under the belt by
20:58a
20:58little bit you'll watch it as you see the belt line right there very close to being on the border
21:03but the referee saw it as being low
21:05later on phrase still up against the rope bang that right hand to the temple
21:09and see how he's throwing it downward he's taking away from his own power
21:13he just throw that lean a little straight there was some concern three fights ago when the durable
21:20carlos rios extended freitas into round nine questions arose about freitas conditioning and
21:26stamina which freitas vehemently disputed again it might have had something to do with the weight
21:33situation also rios is a very awkward fighter hard to hit cleanly he'd gone the distance with a number of
21:38good fighters including i believe sugar shane mosley so rios is not an easy fighter to take out
21:44meanwhile cote it does have trouble with the opponents who pressure him like freitas
21:49the overall size and strength has been a problem at times and he tends to fade in the later rounds
21:54this is a heavy right hand by freitas right on the nose
22:02another good right hand by freitas that had to get the attention of cote who is game and cote
22:07sent out three or four jets which kept him and protected him from getting hit with another
22:11right hand as he snapped the head back of freitas
22:16an old veteran at 33 cote
22:22that left jab is stinging by freitas missing with the right
22:29near low blow there
22:44halfway through round four
22:47again pretty much target practice for the brazilian and green freitas
22:54he has been affected with that chopping right cross
22:59once again when he throws it on that angle and he sends it downward like that he's not leaning cleanly
23:03and
23:03he's taking away from his power again the warning for a low blow one more he could have a point
23:08taken
23:13greatest looking to make a statement here tonight in the company of joel casamayor
23:38one of the problems from time to time when a big puncher fights a fella that doesn't have a lot
23:46of power
23:47he tends to forget about his defense and get caught cleanly the punches that he shouldn't that's happening to freitas
23:52a little bit on the inside now
23:56well this is no taxi that freitas is fighting he's a former world champion he's passed his prime
24:02but he's a tough durable fighter alfred cote
24:07heavy right to the head by freitas
24:09okay stays on his feet
24:17radisson's new wife eliana watching nervously from ringside
24:31can't be easy
24:35this was eliana earlier during some of the action
24:41got to be the first time she's ever seen her husband fight since he hasn't fought in so long
24:48you know sometimes steve it's harder to watch a family member summon glove fight
24:51than doing yourself when i watched my brother's fight he tore me up
24:54for me it was my job tranquillidad just a little bit
25:00keep that routine up don't worry about it you're stay active
25:09john paul gonzalez giving us the words of oscar suarez in the corner of asilino freitas
25:14hands up hands up and it is round five
25:24cote averages over seven rounds but as mentioned
25:28beautiful body shot under the right rib cage you can see the bending over wincing of cote
25:35phrase lindy well
25:37you're pulling him down you keep him up you're pulling him down another warning to
25:41the right is for coming up that's the third warning and uh the referees
25:45being very easy on freitas not deducting a point as of yet
25:56the right hand over that jab
26:07does freitas look as sharp as as you've seen him before do you think the
26:12the layoff has caused some ring rust i don't think there's a tremendous amount of rust
26:17that's uh glaringly evident but i would say this he's in with a very different style a kind of
26:22style that's never been stopped never been off its feet awkward has a lot of experience and it's very
26:27hard to you know styles make fights very hard to control this type of style what if he was in
26:32there
26:32against a a casa mayor or a mayweather of course he would have this long period of inactivity between
26:38fights in order to stay sharp and focused you know i completely agree and i think you'll find
26:43and one of the greatest things about the match-up between casa mayor and
26:47aslino freitas is this the two best equalizers in all of boxing are incredible speed and accuracy
26:52and incredible power and accuracy he's very powerful and very accurate customer is very quick
26:57which gets the winner speed needs to be a little more active a little more on for a lot longer
27:03but
27:03the power is one punch equalizer well some feel that casamayor would have the edge against freitas
27:08in line of the fact that he has better overall boxing skills and that he's faster and that freitas
27:14isn't really ready for casa mayor yet all the way around i'd have to agree with that assessment of
27:19things i think right now i give a big nod uh by at least the margin of two to one
27:23for casamaro he's
27:24fought the better experience and he's looked better in demolishing them we'll see casa mayor later in our
27:30main event against a boxer named joe morales out of san antonio casamayor with a huge following here
27:37being from guantanamo cuba originally now living in miami
27:57the pace settling down somewhat but freight is still in control
28:03you notice a little something's different though freitas is backing up a little a little bit
28:07that's not usually but up on his toes contain the more flat foot hit of the two
28:20well among the heavy hitters of boxing osilino freitas is numero uno a hundred percent the only
28:27world champion today with a perfect knockout record ahead of some some big names shane mosley
28:34jirov and vladimir klitschko
28:44and use your jobs and keep on punching
28:49you shouldn't let your head stand keep on moving keep on moving to the left and follow it up with
28:56jobs
29:02you should be a bit fast use your combinations and do not stand at one place keep moving
29:12thank you yofi boham the translator and manager of alfred cote
29:20from bucham ghana a suburb of opera
29:24now that has produced some terrific boxers over the years and mentioned azuma nelson ike corte ben tacky
29:30he's going to be doing no way
29:33cote just having his difficulty trying to dictate the terms
29:38he can't seem to outbox freitas and can't hit hard enough to get freitas's attention
29:44and the only thing we wonder at this particular point is how will he respond if freitas
29:50really connects with a bomb
29:52right now it appears that cote is fighting a very defensive fight obviously got his hands high
29:57ducking a lot getting out of the way of punches and covering up quite a bit that's going to
30:01not give him an awful lot of opportunity time to be offensive he has to start throwing punches
30:05he's going to have a shot at winning bobby as you mentioned in the early going one of cote's plans
30:11was to try and take freitas deep into the fight and see if uh conditioning and stamina would come into
30:17play but the cote as i mentioned has had a problem at times in tending to fade in the later
30:23rounds
30:24himself so we'll see what happens if this thing goes goes deep well he's not exerted an awful lot
30:28of offensive energy in the first few rounds certainly he's taking some punishment it's hard to
30:33know what he has in the gas tank and what's hard to know what he has at this weight and
30:37way of strength
30:37to do anything should he even get there because he's building himself a big deficit here
30:42as fights get longer he has been known to slacken up and can be out hustled
30:51he's just not busy enough or aggressive enough at this point for freitas to go now he's sticking
30:57that jab into the face of freitas annoyingly effective jab there by cote it's the best he's
31:05looked tonight nice uppercut followed by a right hand by freitas before he snuck that one in it was a
31:11very quick counter it was real nice and slipped let it go over the shoulder the jab of cote fired
31:15immediately
31:15as corte brought the hand back right hand was on the chin almost at the same time
31:22less than a minute remaining in round six
31:33there are fighters too and i and i have to say this because it just is so that are hell
31:38-bent on
31:38surviving even if they're not going to win not going to win put themselves in a position to win
31:42or be over the combative they're bent hell-bent on surviving at all costs and from what we know
31:48cote could be that way
31:52nice block by cote on the overhand right attempt
32:03oh beautiful stopping right uppercut to the jaw by cote best punch of the night for cote for sure
32:09and that gets the crowd going it happens in the final seconds of round six
32:17showbox the new generation returns in two weeks with two of the best young fighters in boxing today
32:24the torch has been passed in a new year today from tacoma juan guzman
32:29defeated adele ruiz by unanimous decision guzman goes to 16 and 0 in the main event evo elder
32:35defeated dagoberto najera by technical decision round six elder to 16 and 0
32:44and it's round seven
32:47a very good ending to the sixth round by the man in purple alfred cote
32:58landing an uppercut to the chin of ocelino freitas
33:04and it was a very nice uppercut but he's not a fighter with one punch knockout power
33:08you need to follow it up with a left hook and maybe a couple more
33:11right hand left hooks on top of it if he's going to do some serious damage
33:14but i don't know that he has that in his uh arsenal
33:18cote registering his best punch of the fight with about 10 seconds remaining in the sixth
33:23a right uppercut to the chin
33:27and as we uh progress along in round seven this bout has lasted twice as long as the average
33:33ocelino freitas fight
33:40no knockdowns thus far
33:43minute gone by oh a heavy right hand that staggers for cote
33:47it was a good right hand but part of it was balanced too
33:49he was caught off balance and he almost toppled to the canvas
33:53he's never been down
33:56cote
33:57and a flurry now by freitas
34:03cote trying to weather the storm
34:08left hand that got in by freitas
34:12right uppercut
34:13and another overhand right to the head
34:16freitas is humbling him keeping the punches and bunches is mixing up to the head and body nicely
34:20tremendous pressure by the brazilian
34:23and freitas with no lead up tommy kevin's watching closely
34:27cote's never been stopped in his career
34:3232 fights
34:34all greatest
34:39right now the referee's watching very closely a lot of the punches being blocked a lot are missing
34:43and in between all that cote is making sure like that he throws a punch or two back
34:47to show that he's still fighting that's what the referee looks for in a situation like this
34:52if there are no answers he'd stop it
34:55or at least you'd hope he would
35:09he's got 30 seconds to survive the next big body shot that he lands i'd love to see what happens
35:14when freitas lands when he's trying that one looked a little low
35:17good luck
35:28quite a barrage here in the seventh round by osseline of freitas
35:34and it looks like cote able to withstand it
35:55the
35:58okay
36:03let the left let the left go let the left be strong
36:07let the left to be strong
36:11I don't want to talk. I don't want to talk.
36:13Do not stand. Do not stand.
36:16Move. Move within.
36:18Move. Move within.
36:24Fredis lands a real nice right hand to the body comes up.
36:27And this right hand is part balance, part good right hand.
36:30But then he just teed off one.
36:32Look out from the overhead.
36:33See he was just leaning back. He caught him well.
36:39Later in the round, there's a tattoo parlor is what it was in there.
36:42He just leveled everything he had.
36:45Didn't get some punches through as clean as he'd like.
36:47But that's the kind of round you can call 10-8 because it was such a one-sided, one-sided
36:52lopsided round.
36:53And now it's round eight, round seven.
36:55The most impressive thus far by Ocelino Fredis.
37:04Let's see if he picks up where he left off.
37:12Fredis crisp and accurate.
37:16In that series of punches.
37:18There's another big right hand, another right straight right.
37:21Those right hands were cleaner. The thud was heavier. You could feel it.
37:26Again, just blanketing Cote.
37:34Once in a while, Cote able to counter with a left.
37:38But not near the damaging time flows that Fredis is offering.
37:43Keep working, guys. Get out of there.
37:55Stunt!
37:58Holding and hitting by Cote.
38:06again Freitas just having his way
38:10we're in round eight halfway through
38:12and just a reminder Freitas has never been past
38:17nine if it gets that far well I'll tell you what Steve this one right now has
38:21decision written all over it I think that Kote
38:24is kind of resolved that he wants to go to distance at almost any cost
38:28and I don't know that there's enough firepower left in Freitas
38:33coupled with the good defensive maneuvering that we have with Kote that he can get him out of there
38:45Kote showing he has a tremendous chin and an outstanding resolve
38:51withstanding a lot of pressure throughout this fight
38:54but the most was in round seven
39:09that big right hand that staggered Kote back fairly unfortunately while it was a pretty flush
39:15a punch Kote seemed to be at the very end of it
39:19yeah he was leaning too so it took away some of the power and I think there was a balance
39:24couple in there lack of balance
39:26clean right hand but not as devastating as it could have been
39:29if he was an inch or so forward
39:31it could have been the end of the fight
39:46well we've got an interested spectator
39:49watching calmly back in his dressing room Joel Casamayor he'll be fighting later in our main event against Joe Morales
39:57he's undefeated
39:59slippery southpaw with blazing hand and foot speed
40:02remarkable amateur career won the gold medal at the 92 Barcelona Olympics
40:06representing his native Cuba defected to the United States just before the 96 Atlanta games were his favorite to go
40:13all the way again
40:1425-25-0-15 knockouts and he is chomping at the bit to get to Freitas
40:22who tried it
40:23take a lot take a deep breath for me there
40:34use that right hand remember that right that right hook is important here
40:43well something's got to give
40:44Ocelino Freitas has never gone the distance
40:47and Alfred Cote has never been stopped
40:50a streak is broken tonight
40:53it is round number nine
40:56it is round number nine
41:22some of them are getting through though but even the punches that are being blocked
41:25are so heavy they have to have effect on Cote
41:28I think a lot of people at home would be surprised when you have a glove laying on your cheek
41:34or your jawbone
41:35somebody slams that glove it's not it's blocked technically it hurts
41:44and thank you for not demonstrating that on me
41:49I love my partner
41:55a lot more jabbing here by Freitas
41:56I think he's looking to set up one of those big
41:59right hands but right now Cote's just not he's not biting he's just going to stay here he's going to
42:03hide he's going to cover up
42:06Cote has fought most of his career at 112, 118, 122, 126 now campaigning at 130
42:18Freitas is actually closer to 140 for this fight
42:22said he'd like to move down to 126
42:26i'm not sure i can buy that one just yet but
42:29time will tell
42:31he said he would like to take on marco antonio marrera but the boxing
42:37community wants to see freitas and casa mayor perhaps sometime in early 2002
42:43to unify the wba and wbo 130 pound belts
42:55this is a non-title fight scheduled for 10
42:59as we have mentioned kratis has never been past nine in his career
43:0529-0 29 knockouts about half a minute that's going to change steve looks that way
43:27freitas won the title in august 99
43:32a devastating first round knockout over anatoly alexandrov
43:40he's made seven title defenses
43:44coming up next our second co-feature
43:48it'll be the ibf version of the 130 pound championship
43:52steve forbes putting his belt on the line against john brown
43:57into the dressing room of the champion
44:01steve forbes
44:05there with floyd mayweather senior his new trainer
44:09forbes a slick quick counter punch who stopped round of the eighth in december
44:14brown sustained a punctured ear drum and severe laceration inside his left ear
44:18forbes actually behind on the cards and some feel being outworked when the fight was stopped
44:23well he is the reigning ibf champion
44:31let's go to jim gray jim
44:33well steve uh we showed the beautiful new wife of asalino freitas
44:38eliana she was sitting in her seat and she was so happy to see this fight she couldn't take it
44:43anymore she left during the middle of last round she's now outside awaiting the outcome steve
44:49all right jim thanks very much see if she left on this one i guarantee she should not show up
44:54for the one with casa mayor
44:58so the new wife of asalino freitas seeing her husband in the ring for the first time
45:04could take it
45:08and it's very easy to understand why here it is the 10th and final round the first time freitas has
45:14been this far in his career
45:29we wonder if a 30 and 0 with 29 knockouts
45:35will diminish the marquee value
45:39just a wee bit of asalino freitas it just doesn't have that ring to it like 30 and 0 and
45:4430 knockouts
45:45he will no longer be
45:48the only current world champion with a perfect knockout record if this thing goes to this
45:52and all due fairness to the possibility of the layover and rust factor there still could be some
45:57rust in here there are a couple of instances where he didn't react quite as quickly where he wasn't in
46:01what i call the zone but you stay in with being active on a regular basis so it could be
46:06a rust factor
46:07could be a number of factors could just be the awkward style toughness of cote
46:11you get the sense that freitas is trying for that 30th knockout here or is he being a little more
46:18you know on the low key son i don't think there's any low keenness to his attack mode he just
46:24wants
46:24to get him out but again he's worked nine and a half rounds with a lot of energy and he
46:29doesn't want to
46:29get sloppy or careless well the unplever stockout record could go out the window if he doesn't put cote down
46:37he's got about a minute to get it done right hand heavy
46:50gonna take a lot to put cote on the campus
46:56okay continues to put punches together just they're not real strong and not real often but
47:05they're there greatest has 35 seconds to try and keep his knockout record alive but cote
47:13refuses refuses to go 25 seconds to go 25 seconds to go can cote pull off a dramatic knockout and
47:24keep that
47:24record intact
47:35the crowd urging him on
47:38but cote staying on his feet so a moral victory of sorts for alfred cote and for the first time
47:47in 30
47:47when he fights
47:48does it score a knockout
47:54oh
48:00yeah
48:01yeah
48:01yeah
48:01yeah
48:03yeah
48:05yeah
48:06yeah
48:06yeah
48:12good job
48:13well there it is
48:16Ocelino Freitas
48:18pitching a virtual
48:20shutout from this vantage point
48:22as he gets paraded around the ring
48:24by his corner
48:28a valiant effort
48:31by
48:31the Gauntan fighter Alfred Cote
48:34Eliana
48:35slowly but surely making her way back
48:38to the seats
48:39trying to break out into a smile
48:42but it had to be rough for her to watch her new
48:44husband in action for the first
48:45time she actually left
48:47the premises for a
48:49little bit as Jim Gray reported on
48:51and now
48:54kind of sheepishly making her way
48:55back into the arena very pretty young lady
48:57who had some difficulty watching
49:01Freitas fight
49:02well the drama's gone now Steve
49:03so she knows he won
49:05it appears that he's not hurt or injured in any way
49:07so feeling better at least about things
49:10but
49:11difficult for her to watch
49:19to his credit Freitas
49:21knowing he could very well take the last round off
49:23stayed in there pressured
49:25Cote and Cote to his credit
49:27fought back
49:27made sure he had punches
49:29on the chin or the nose
49:31of the champion
49:32just because
49:33he didn't want to get stopped
49:35and he wanted
49:35he wanted to win but he just didn't have it to me
49:37he doesn't have
49:38all the guns necessary
49:39to keep off
49:40a great power puncher
49:41like Freitas
49:44and again you have to wondering what's going on in the mind of Joel Castamayor right now
49:48as he watched
49:48Ocelino Freitas
49:49go the distance for the first time
49:52let's get it up to Ronnie Duncan
49:53for the work
49:54ladies and gentlemen
49:56we have come to a decision
49:58let's have a round of applause
49:59for both of these young men

50:31the easily unanimous decision
50:34and he goes to
50:3530 and 0
50:36but he stays

50:48against John Brown
50:49and this time

50:55crack at Forbes
50:55in the title
50:56unsuccessful
50:57in early December
50:58under somewhat
50:59controversial conditions
51:01an injury he says
51:02was overdramatized
51:04he's
51:05made a life
51:06and career
51:07of overcoming
51:07the odds

51:37disappointed
51:38it's the first time
51:39he's been in a
51:39professional fight
51:40where he didn't
51:40knock out his
51:41opponent
51:41he said
51:42he said
51:42he said
51:43if you feel
51:44a little bit
51:45worried about
51:46not having
51:47knocked out
51:47his opponent
51:48this is a fight
51:50that all Americans
51:51have to know
51:53who is Popo
51:53no
51:54basically no
51:55this is a fight
51:56that the whole
51:57of the American people
51:59have to know
51:59who Popo Freita is
52:01they never had
52:02the opportunity
52:02to see his talent
52:03and his charisma
52:05in the ring
52:06Cote was very game
52:08never been down
52:09did he think
52:10at several points
52:11particularly in the
52:127th round
52:12that he was going
52:13to be able
52:13to put him away
52:29yes he said
52:30definitely
52:31you know
52:31on occasions
52:32he thought
52:32he was going
52:33to take him out
52:33but he realized
52:34that Cote
52:35is very strong
52:36he could take
52:36a shot
52:37disappointed
52:38his streak
52:38is over
52:48I know that
52:52no it's not important
52:52I can understand
52:55he said no
52:56very honestly
52:58it's not important
52:59he was getting ready
53:01for 12 rounds
53:01what's most important
53:02is the victory
53:05you have been off
53:06for 8 months
53:06was there any rust
53:08factor tonight
53:08you have been out of the ring
53:11for 8 months
53:12if that had to have
53:14had to have
53:15any defect
53:15or if it had to have
53:16a bit of rust
53:20no I was prepared
53:21no I was prepared
53:22for 12 shots
53:22I was out
53:24but I was training
53:26I was out of the ring
53:27but I was training
53:27and the training
53:28in the United States
53:29is worse than
53:30in a fight
53:30he was always in the gym
53:34but the real fight
53:36you do it in the gym

53:58Jim Gray
53:59the always confident
54:01Asilino Freitas
54:03and you also wonder
54:04you know
54:05how psyched up
54:06he was going into
54:06a fight
54:07that was not
54:07for a title
54:08as you look at
54:09the official
54:10judges scorecards

54:29thanks
54:30the online voting

54:31with the start
54:32of our next bout
54:33well we are
54:34one down
54:35two to go
54:35IBF champ
54:36Steve Forbes
54:37the latest entry
54:38in the junior
54:38lightweight sweepstakes
54:39the new kid on the block
54:40but before he can
54:41count himself in
54:42with the 130 pound
54:43in crowd
54:44or hope for inclusion
54:45in any kind
54:46of unification series
54:47he needs to score
54:48a convincing victory
54:49over his opponent
54:50tonight
54:50John Brown
54:51will be beat
54:52in controversial fashion
54:53when an ear injury
54:55halted the fight
54:58well the first fight
54:59was a very rough fight
55:00you know
55:01it was one of them
55:03fights that
55:04has to be continued
55:06you know
55:06I didn't know
55:07at first
55:07but I seen him
55:08kind of grimace
55:09and he kind of grabbed me
55:10and then I looked
55:13and I seen a lot
55:13of blood coming
55:14from
55:14you know
55:15on his shoulder
55:16and then right then
55:17I knew there was
55:18something wrong
55:19I think a couple judges
55:21had him ahead
55:21and one judge
55:22had me ahead
55:23by one point
55:24it was such a close fight
55:25that I think
55:26it deserves a rematch
55:28just because I want
55:29to get it straight
55:30you know
55:31as well
55:31I think you're going to see
55:33a good boxing lesson
55:34this fight
55:37the way I train
55:38for this
55:38and the game plan
55:40that I have
55:41for this
55:42is going to be
55:43it's going to be
55:44a good fight for me
55:45in my career
55:46I was never built up
55:47to be a world champion
55:48I just kept winning
55:50you know
55:50I always never
55:51had a stage
55:52where
55:53yeah we're going
55:53to build this guy
