Lamon Brewster defends the WBO Heavyweight Title against Sergei Liakhovich on Showtime Boxing
Transcript
00:00:00It's been over two years since Lennox Lewis retired from the ring, ending his reign as king
00:00:18of the heavyweights. During that time, no one has been recognized for his superior skills
00:00:24or separated himself from the other would-be heirs. The division is now populated by unrecognizable
00:00:31faces, unfamiliar names, and uninspired performances. The belts are constantly vied for, yet there
00:00:45is no one champion to ignite the imagination of the fans. You gotta be the heavyweight champion
00:00:51of your world. You gotta go get this thing. Tonight, hard-punching WBO champion Lehman Brewster
00:00:57faces one-speed defender Sergei Lajovin. Opportunity is knocking. Will one of them answer the call?
00:01:21Yeah!
00:01:27Yeah!
00:01:29It's alright for fighting! Get a little action! Alright! Alright!
00:01:35Woooo!
00:01:39Yeah!
00:01:43Saturday, Saturday! Saturday! Saturday! Saturday! Saturday! Saturday! Saturday! Saturday! Saturday night's alright!
00:01:53And welcome to Cleveland, Ohio.
00:02:04Tonight, this waterfront city hosts its first world heavyweight title fight since 1983,
00:02:10when Michael Dynamite Dokes was upset by Harry Coetzee.
00:02:15For that in 75, Muhammad Ali came to this area and beat Chuck Webner.
00:02:20This evening, a new generation of Buckeye boxing fans braced for a heavyweight championship.
00:02:27Yes, it's fight night in Cleveland.
00:02:30Lehman Brewster has won four title fights in a row.
00:02:34An impressive streak by today's standards in this once glamorous division.
00:02:38If the Indianapolis native can add another quality outing or two,
00:02:42he just might emerge from the pack of title holders as the people's champion.
00:02:47The challenger, Sergei Lachovic, originally from Belarus.
00:02:53He's 22-1, although he's fought mostly second-level opposition.
00:02:58But like the rest of today's big men,
00:03:00he knows that one big win can catapult him into the middle of the muddled heavyweight picture.
00:03:06On this special late-night edition of America's Fight Night,
00:03:11we present a heavyweight title fight.
00:03:13Relentless Lehman Brewster will put his championship on the line
00:03:16against upset-minded Sergei the White Wolf Lachovic.
00:03:20Two fighters in quest of marquee attention in a division yearning for a preeminent universal champion.
00:03:26Hello again, everybody.
00:03:32Steve Albert here at the Wallstein Center
00:03:34on the campus of Cleveland State University in downtown Cleveland, Ohio.
00:03:39Well, it's no secret the heavyweight division has fallen on lean times in recent years.
00:03:44In fact, when a dominant heavyweight champion exits,
00:03:46another superstar doesn't instantly appear.
00:03:49When Lennox Lewis retired in February 2004, he left a void.
00:03:53Fans have always craved the clarity that one acknowledged heavyweight champion brings to boxing.
00:03:59Vitaly Klitschko looked the part, but injuries forced his retirement.
00:04:03Chris Bird and Vladimir Klitschko have proven vulnerable,
00:04:06and two weeks ago, Hasim Rahman and James Toney fought to a draw.
00:04:10Seven-foot Nikolai Valuev remains a mystery, if not a curiosity.
00:04:15So, the star search continues.
00:04:18With that, let me bring on my ringside partner, Al Bernstein.
00:04:21And, Al, why is the heavyweight division so vitally important to the entire sport of boxing?
00:04:25You know, Steve, for the most part, all the divisions in boxing,
00:04:28except for the heavyweight division, are thriving with good matchups and a pretty good talent pool.
00:04:32But many of the fans, especially Americans and certainly the mainstream media,
00:04:36tend to measure the health of boxing by using the heavyweight division as its barometer.
00:04:41And so that has created, in a way, a detriment for the sport.
00:04:45And that's what's created the urgency to have more excitement in the heavyweight division.
00:04:49It's important for the sport.
00:04:50Well, what boxing really needs is an exciting competitive heavyweight championship fight
00:04:55and a compelling champion.
00:04:57Lehman Brewster thinks he's that man.
00:04:59Our Karen Bryant spoke with him earlier tonight.
00:05:02Lehman, in your fight against Gulotta, you came right out of the gate,
00:05:05shut him down within the first round.
00:05:07Later, against Krasnici, it took more rounds.
00:05:09It took seven rounds that you were losing before you were able to turn it around
00:05:12and knock him out in the ninth.
00:05:15Brewster fans get a little frustrated by what they see as inconsistency.
00:05:18How do you address that?
00:05:19Well, with Gulotta, he tried to stand in front of me and go toe-to-toe, big no-no.
00:05:25With Krasnici, he was smarter.
00:05:27And I knew that I couldn't win rounds, even if I won the rounds.
00:05:30So I just went in there to knock him out, you know, chop him down like a tree.
00:05:34And that's what I did.
00:05:35So tonight, which perform are we going to see?
00:05:38Well, it depends on if he wants to be macho and stand in front of me or, you know,
00:05:42it's just, you know, I'm going to be like water.
00:05:44I'm going to be formless.
00:05:46Formless.
00:05:46Okay.
00:05:46Well, it's been a couple of weeks since the Tony Rachman fight,
00:05:49which a lot of people were disappointed in.
00:05:51The spotlight has definitely turned to you tonight.
00:05:53This is the first heavyweight fight since then.
00:05:55What kind of opportunity do you see this as?
00:05:58Just an opportunity to show that I am the best heavyweight out there in the world.
00:06:02You know, I don't take anything from those guys.
00:06:05They show tremendous heart, you know.
00:06:08But I feel like it's my time.
00:06:10And, you know, the cream rises to the top.
00:06:12I just have to be patient and just let God deliver me.
00:06:15All right.
00:06:15Now I have to ask, who is the cutie and the Afro puffs on this shirt?
00:06:19This is my daughter, Shania.
00:06:20Shania Brewster.
00:06:21And my son on my left, well, your right, whenever, that's Lehman Jr.
00:06:26All right.
00:06:27And that's who it's for tonight, yes?
00:06:28Oh, yeah.
00:06:29This is the reason why I do what I do, absolutely,
00:06:31so that they don't have to go through the strains in life that I've been through,
00:06:36you know, just financially trying to make their life a little better than my life,
00:06:40you know, and hopefully they'll do the same for that children.
00:06:42All right.
00:06:43Best to you.
00:06:43Thanks for joining us, Lehman.
00:06:45All right.
00:06:46And no question Brewster has his faults, his critics,
00:06:48but he is the hardest-hitting heavyweight champion out there today
00:06:52and one of the most explosive punches in the division.
00:06:55And really, that's what people want to see.
00:06:57Yeah, and he has certainly shown that in his last nine fights
00:07:00with eight knockouts in those nine wins.
00:07:03But in three of the last four championship matches,
00:07:07fighting fighters with similar styles to Lachovic,
00:07:09Brewster dug early holes for himself, got way behind,
00:07:13and needed his power to pull the fights out.
00:07:15Now, Lachovic would love to build a lead like that tonight,
00:07:18but he has his own issues early in the fight.
00:07:20He's only fought once in the last 25 months,
00:07:23so you would anticipate he could have some ring rust during those early rounds.
00:07:27And so, for the workman like Lachovic,
00:07:30it's going to take a sustained and focused effort to win tonight.
00:07:33Part of that focus for Lachovic is using only what works against Brewster,
00:07:42a jab and straight right hand from the outside.
00:07:45And on the inside, don't trade hooks, use an uppercut.
00:07:49Lachovic's road to disaster would be using a lead right to the body.
00:07:52Now, he likes to throw this uncontrollable punch,
00:07:57and he can easily be countered.
00:07:59Against Dominic Gwynn, he did it over 30 times,
00:08:03and he often threw it very wide.
00:08:07Then, he left his hand low after throwing that punch.
00:08:12And even Gwynn, not a left hooker by trade,
00:08:16was able to counter it often.
00:08:17If Brewster is able to do this tonight,
00:08:21he will likely knock Lachovic out.
00:08:29Now, Brewster doesn't believe it,
00:08:31but he's safer defensively when he's attacking,
00:08:33not languishing on the outside.
00:08:35He tends to stand direct in fights,
00:08:37and to these tall European-style fighters,
00:08:39he's a great target.
00:08:41But the great equalizer is his left hook,
00:08:43one of the best in boxing.
00:08:45When Juan Cresnici kept his right hand low,
00:08:50it gave Brewster the opportunity to land the left hook.
00:08:56Now, at his best,
00:08:58Brewster is a good combination puncher, too.
00:09:02And he can follow the hook with multiple shots.
00:09:06So, a missed right hand can be a fight-ending mistake
00:09:10one Brewster hopes Lachovic will make tonight.
00:09:23As we close in on the fight,

00:09:54We'll be back.
00:09:56We'll be back.
00:09:58Sergey Lachovic, a number of Laman Brewster fans
00:10:01disappointed in the opposition,
00:10:02feeling the White Wolf as undeserving,
00:10:04particularly since he hasn't fought since December 04,
00:10:07a 16-month layoff.
00:10:09Also, he looked a little bit soft in the middle,
00:10:12out of shape his last fight,
00:10:13a close unanimous decision over Dominic Gwynne.
00:10:16In many eyes, he's generously rated number 13 by the WBO.
00:10:21Al Miner injuries, boxing's politics blamed for his inactivity.
00:10:25Nevertheless, ring rust, among other things,
00:10:27has to be a major concern.
00:10:29I'm sure he's worried about that.
00:10:30However, he is.
00:10:31Trainer Kenny Weldon is walking in there with him,
00:10:33feeling maybe that layoff could be a blessing in disguise.
00:10:36Over the last 12 months,
00:10:38they say he's logged more time in the gym than ever before,
00:10:41and Weldon thinks they have worked on many things
00:10:44that will make him a better fighter.
00:10:46A soft-spoken, unassuming,
00:10:49Lachowicz, who speaks English,
00:10:50doesn't get into politics,
00:10:53but his homeland,
00:10:54the former Soviet Republic, Belarus,
00:10:56has much political turmoil,
00:10:58arrests going on,
00:10:59freedom of speech not available.
00:11:01But this is being televised back to Belarus,
00:11:04and Sergei only hopes a victory could serve
00:11:07to be a unifying influence
00:11:09to raise spirits among the 10 million citizens.
00:11:13Ring-wise, probably the most impressive performance
00:11:16back in 2001.
00:11:18He beat previously unbeaten Friday Ahunanya.
00:11:21However, his next fight,
00:11:22his only loss,
00:11:23KO'd by Maurice Harris.
00:11:25His people claimed the result of a bad reaction
00:11:28to a vitamin B12 shot before the fight.
00:11:32Nevertheless,
00:11:32it did create some doubt
00:11:34about Sergei Lachowicz.
00:11:40Lachowicz clearly on the biggest platform
00:11:43of his career.
00:11:45And when he speaks,
00:11:46it's funny,
00:11:47he almost sounds like
00:11:47the Rocky Balboa character
00:11:49from the legendary film series
00:11:51Rocky,
00:11:52as the crowd settles in.
00:11:56Cavaliers played the Heat earlier tonight,
00:11:59up the block.
00:11:59Here in Cleveland,
00:12:04Cleveland Cavaliers.
00:12:05The fans very excited.
00:12:07The team that makes the playoffs
00:12:09for the first time in eight years.
00:12:12What time is that?
00:12:13Team time.
00:12:14Come on.
00:12:15What time is that?
00:12:16Team time.
00:12:20On this April Fool's Day,
00:12:22Lehman Brewster looking to prove
00:12:24he is no joke.
00:12:26One of the nicest guys in the sport.
00:12:27Very spiritual,
00:12:28a family man,
00:12:30torn by the fact
00:12:31he couldn't see his wife
00:12:32and three kids
00:12:32for five weeks while training,
00:12:34but makes the sacrifice
00:12:35so the money he earns
00:12:37goes towards
00:12:37his children's education.
00:12:39He calls his ability
00:12:40to fight a gift.
00:12:42His detractors question
00:12:43that ability.
00:12:44They don't question
00:12:45his punching power,
00:12:46heart,
00:12:46or chin.
00:12:47And to help improve
00:12:49his technical skills
00:12:50and defense,
00:12:51he brought in top trainer
00:12:52Buddy McGirt.
00:12:53We'll see if it makes a difference.
00:12:55Well, he hopes it does.
00:12:56And he's very aware
00:12:57of the fact
00:12:58that this is a very
00:13:00important fight for him.
00:13:01Haseem Rahman
00:13:02and James Toney
00:13:02had a chance two weeks ago
00:13:04to seize the spotlight
00:13:05in the heavyweight division.
00:13:06Truthfully,
00:13:07they came up a little short.
00:13:09He thinks he can do it tonight
00:13:10against Lehovich,
00:13:12and it'll take a big performance
00:13:13for him to do that.
00:13:14Yeah, we'll see if Brewster
00:13:15can grab this opportunity.
00:13:17A guy who's been
00:13:18unpredictable,
00:13:19inconsistent,
00:13:20but he does find ways
00:13:21to win
00:13:22and primarily
00:13:23via the knockout.
00:13:29We're set to check
00:13:30the numbers here in Cleveland
00:13:31as we go to the tail
00:13:32of the tape.
00:13:33And these guys,
00:13:33pretty young for today's
00:13:35heavyweights at 32.
00:13:36Brewster,
00:13:36three years older
00:13:37than Lehovich,
00:13:38who turns 30 next month.
00:13:40The 6'4 challenger
00:13:41usually looks down
00:13:42at his opponent,
00:13:43a four-inch height advantage.
00:13:44A boxing anomaly
00:13:45as Lehovich gives away
00:13:46two and a half inches
00:13:47in reach.
00:13:48At Thursday's weigh-in,
00:13:49Brewster just two pounds
00:13:51under his career heaviest.
00:13:53He was 224
00:13:54when he annihilated
00:13:55Andrew Gulotta.
00:13:56Just for your information,
00:13:58Lehovich down slightly
00:13:59from 240 his last fight.
00:14:01His heaviest
00:14:01was 240 and three quarters.
00:14:04And the key unified rules
00:14:06for this world title fight,
00:14:07there's no standing
00:14:08eight count,
00:14:08no three knockdown rule,
00:14:10and a fighter cannot be saved
00:14:12by the bell
00:14:12in any round.
00:14:14If an accidental headbutt
00:14:16causes a fight
00:14:17to end with in four rounds,
00:14:18it's a no decision.
00:14:19After four rounds,
00:14:20they go to the scorecards.
00:14:21If a punch causes a cut
00:14:22and the injured fighter
00:14:24can't continue,
00:14:25he loses by TKO.
00:14:31So here at the Wallstein Center,
00:14:32the home of the Cleveland
00:14:33State Vikings,
00:14:34we're getting ready

00:17:35corner,
00:17:36wearing camouflage
00:17:37trunks,
00:17:38fighting out of
00:17:39Vero Beach, Florida
00:17:40by way of
00:17:40Indianapolis, Indiana.
00:17:43He weighed in
00:17:44at 232 pounds,
00:17:46this record,
00:17:4733 wins,
00:17:48two losses
00:17:49with 29
00:17:51big wins
00:17:52coming by way
00:17:53of knockout.
00:17:54Tonight,
00:17:54he is making
00:17:55the fourth defense
00:17:56of his title.
00:17:57Ladies and gentlemen,
00:17:58please welcome
00:17:59the defending
00:18:00WBO heavyweight
00:18:02champion of the world.
00:18:05Introducing
00:18:05California Relentless
00:18:07Lehmann Brewster.
00:18:17Once again,
00:18:18our third man
00:18:18to the ring,
00:18:19Ernie Sharif.
00:18:20Now to give
00:18:21instructions.
00:18:28Let's go.
00:18:33All right, fellas,
00:18:34you received
00:18:35your instructions
00:18:35in the dressing room.
00:18:37Do you have
00:18:37any questions?
00:18:39I want you to obey
00:18:39my commands at all times
00:18:41and protect yourself
00:18:42at all times.
00:18:43You understand?
00:18:43Shake hands.
00:18:45Shake hands and come out
00:18:45fighting.
00:18:50On this final four weekend,
00:18:51if you missed the scores
00:18:52from Indianapolis,
00:18:54Florida beat
00:18:54George Mason,
00:18:5673-58.
00:18:57The magical run
00:18:58for George Mason ends
00:18:59and UCLA over LSU,
00:19:0259-45.
00:19:03So it'll be
00:19:04Florida versus UCLA
00:19:06for the national championship
00:19:07on CBS Monday Night Live
00:19:09at 9 p.m. Eastern time.
00:19:12Lehman Brewster's new guru,
00:19:13Buddy McGirt,
00:19:14says Brewster doesn't know
00:19:15how good he really is.
00:19:17Well, that's exactly
00:19:18why we're here
00:19:19to find out
00:19:21just how good
00:19:22Lehman Brewster
00:19:23really is,
00:19:24although even an
00:19:25emphatic statement
00:19:26like performance
00:19:27has to be put
00:19:28into context
00:19:29considering
00:19:30Sergei Lojovich
00:19:32is a fringe contender.
00:19:35Lojovich has
00:19:35pretty good skills,
00:19:36decent power,
00:19:37but sometimes
00:19:38comes straight in
00:19:39without movement,
00:19:40fights and spurts,
00:19:42lacks fire.
00:19:42So we wonder,
00:19:44Al,
00:19:45if he's made
00:19:45the order for Brewster
00:19:46or is he a white wolf
00:19:48in sheep's clothing?
00:19:50Well, you know,
00:19:51he's very much like
00:19:52the men that Brewster
00:19:53has been fighting
00:19:54in the last four fights.
00:19:56Just now,
00:19:57Lojovich threw a right hand,
00:19:58a lead right hand
00:19:59to the body.
00:20:00Pay attention to that.
00:20:02That is a key
00:20:03in this bout.
00:20:04If he keeps
00:20:04showing that punch,
00:20:05Lehman Brewster
00:20:06could very well
00:20:07counter him
00:20:07and hurt him.
00:20:09And already
00:20:10he's done it once.
00:20:11Brewster, though,
00:20:11not starting off,
00:20:13living up to his nickname
00:20:14as a relentless
00:20:15attacker at the bell.
00:20:16He has 14 first-round
00:20:17knockouts out of 29.
00:20:19We've also
00:20:20seen him start
00:20:21deliberately
00:20:22and stay outside,
00:20:23even get rocked
00:20:24early on.
00:20:26There's a feeling
00:20:27the predominantly
00:20:28boxing style
00:20:29of Lojovich
00:20:30will eventually
00:20:31frustrate Brewster,
00:20:33but there's Brewster
00:20:33going at it.
00:20:34An excellent right hand
00:20:36by Lehman Brewster
00:20:36and Buddy McGirt
00:20:37and Brewster
00:20:38told us
00:20:39they think
00:20:39the Brewster
00:20:40right hand
00:20:40is much better
00:20:42than it's ever been.
00:20:43Beautiful jab
00:20:44by Brewster,
00:20:45but the feeling
00:20:46is that Brewster
00:20:48may abandon
00:20:49what he learned
00:20:49from McGirt
00:20:50in the gym
00:20:51and revert
00:20:51to the headhunting
00:20:52Brewster,
00:20:53but nice start
00:20:54by the champion.
00:20:56Lojovich,
00:20:57a slow starter.
00:20:59There's the jab
00:21:00by Lojovich,
00:21:01who's most effective
00:21:01at close range.
00:21:02Nice double jab.
00:21:04He's got a pretty
00:21:04good uppercut
00:21:05on the inside,
00:21:06does Lojovich.
00:21:06But he has to be mindful
00:21:08of Brewster's powerful hook.
00:21:11Remember,
00:21:11eight of Brewster's
00:21:12last nine wins
00:21:14by knockout.
00:21:17So far in this match,
00:21:19Lojovich has used the jab
00:21:21a little more effectively.
00:21:22He keeps throwing
00:21:23those lead rights
00:21:23to the body.
00:21:24So far,
00:21:25Lehman Brewster
00:21:26has not countered
00:21:27with the left hook
00:21:28over that.
00:21:30Lojovich's trainer,
00:21:31Kenny Weldon,
00:21:32who used to work
00:21:33with Evander Holyfield,
00:21:34among other greats,
00:21:35feels if his man
00:21:36can beat Brewster's hook,
00:21:38they can beat Brewster.
00:21:43Combination by Brewster.
00:21:44Brewster throws
00:21:44what's known
00:21:45as an inside hook,
00:21:46so you don't see it coming,
00:21:47which could be terribly
00:21:48dangerous
00:21:48to Lojovich.
00:21:49is not standing
00:21:55in front of Brewster,
00:21:56which is a recipe
00:21:57for disaster.
00:22:00This round
00:22:01has been an interesting
00:22:01one for both men
00:22:02have gotten a few
00:22:03good things done,
00:22:04things they can build on,
00:22:05especially Lojovich.
00:22:08Final seconds
00:22:09of the opening round
00:22:10scheduled for 12
00:22:11for the WBO heavyweight title.
00:22:1410!
00:22:14Cupbacks!
00:22:15You're getting there
00:22:23with the right hand
00:22:24because you jabbing
00:22:25to the body
00:22:26and you're pulling out.
00:22:27When you jab to the body,
00:22:29don't pull out.
00:22:30Just stay low
00:22:30and move your hand.
00:22:31That's all you got to do.
00:22:32Okay?
00:22:33Now keep jabbing the body.
00:22:35Don't worry about the hand.
00:22:36You only threw one right hand.
00:22:37Give me some more.
00:22:39I didn't feel like
00:22:39I was in range.
00:22:40Okay.
00:22:41Well, speaking of that right hand,
00:22:43he threw one,
00:22:44but it landed.
00:22:44They want that right hand a lot.
00:22:46He throws the jab
00:22:47to the chest
00:22:48and then the right hand
00:22:49comes from Lehman Brewster
00:22:50and you see
00:22:50there's a little combination
00:22:51punching after that.
00:22:53Lehman Brewster,
00:22:53when he lands a big punch,
00:22:55he will get other combos in.
00:22:56Now, Lojovich
00:22:58throws the right hand downstairs
00:23:01and Brewster tries
00:23:02to counter him
00:23:02with the hook
00:23:03and it's dangerous
00:23:06for Lojovich to do that.
00:23:07In that case,
00:23:08Brewster missed with the hook.
00:23:09Okay, let's stay alert.
00:23:10Take it down.
00:23:11Let's go.
00:23:12Let's go.
00:23:12Keep that right hand
00:23:13and you get a ball.
00:23:14Shoot to the bottom.
00:23:16Lehman Brewster says
00:23:17his left hand
00:23:18makes his right hand jealous.
00:23:21He comes up
00:23:22with some winners.
00:23:23Yeah, he's a very,
00:23:24he's a fascinating young man.
00:23:25He really is.
00:23:29You made that interesting point
00:23:30on the keys.
00:23:31Lojovich does often lead
00:23:32with the right to the body,
00:23:33making him susceptible
00:23:35to the left hook,
00:23:37which is Brewster's money punch.
00:23:38It didn't quite come to fruition
00:23:41in that first round,
00:23:42but stay tuned.
00:23:46Lojovich has a pretty good
00:23:47left hook too,
00:23:48which is not a European trait.
00:23:51Europeans mostly use
00:23:52the jab on the right hand.
00:23:57Lojovich has really become
00:23:59Americanized
00:24:00and I'll say one thing,
00:24:02Brewster has had good success
00:24:04against these Eastern European fighters.
00:24:06Boy, has he ever
00:24:06in his last four title matches.
00:24:09He's won all of them,
00:24:10although as we aptly pointed out,
00:24:12he's had trouble early in fights.
00:24:13Now there was the right
00:24:14to the body by Lojovich.
00:24:16Brewster tried to counter
00:24:17with the hook
00:24:18and just missed.
00:24:19He will get it there though
00:24:21before this fight is over.
00:24:22Nice overhand right
00:24:23by Lehman Brewster
00:24:25to the head of Lojovich.
00:24:28Both are brave.
00:24:29Both can take a shot.
00:24:31Both can punch.
00:24:32The difference could be
00:24:33who goes after it
00:24:34and who waits.
00:24:34So far in this fight,
00:24:36Lojovich is making
00:24:37one important mistake.
00:24:39He's not fighting tall.
00:24:40He's leaning in
00:24:41to Lehman Brewster,
00:24:42giving him a better opportunity
00:24:43to land the straight rights
00:24:44and those left hooks.
00:24:46Nice right hand.
00:24:48Counter shot by Lojovich.
00:24:51This fight has a chance
00:24:53to be a very interesting one
00:24:54and already the punch output,
00:24:56I think, for heavyweights
00:24:57in this first two rounds
00:24:58is pretty good.
00:25:00Well, both clearly lifts apart,
00:25:02but can either one really capture
00:25:04the public's interest
00:25:05and imagination.
00:25:07The thing about Brewster,
00:25:09while many are still
00:25:10not sold on him,
00:25:11he does make for exciting fights
00:25:13because he's vulnerable
00:25:14and he has rallied
00:25:17to knock people out.
00:25:19But too often,
00:25:19oh, big right hand
00:25:20by Lehman Brewster
00:25:22to the head of Lojovich.
00:25:24That one had some purpose on it
00:25:26and evil intent.
00:25:28Lojovich has a good chin, though.
00:25:30Other than the Harris fight,
00:25:32which he was stopped,
00:25:32he's taken some big punches
00:25:33and managed to persevere.
00:25:35So we'll see how...
00:25:37Brewster, of course,
00:25:38is a very powerful heavyweight,
00:25:40as was pointed out.
00:25:41Too often,
00:25:41Brewster waits for the fight
00:25:43to fall in his lap,
00:25:44but he looks to be going
00:25:46and trying to take it here.
00:25:48Both men are performing well.
00:25:50Left hook by Lojovich,
00:25:52that score to the net.
00:25:54You know, we say
00:25:54it's dangerous for Lojovich
00:25:56to throw the left hook
00:25:57because it'd be countered
00:25:57by the left by Brewster,
00:25:58but so far,
00:25:59he's throwing that punch,
00:26:00landing it,
00:26:01and not getting countered
00:26:02by Brewster.
00:26:04We approach the final
00:26:05ten seconds
00:26:06of the second round.
00:26:08Some pretty interesting
00:26:09give and take here
00:26:10over the first two rounds.
00:26:14Brewster missing
00:26:17with the right hand.
00:26:18Good duck under move
00:26:19defensively by Lojovich.
00:26:21Now Brewster dicks
00:26:22to the body at the belt.
00:26:39Get back a little bit.
00:26:40You're smothering.
00:26:41Get back a little bit.
00:26:43Hey.
00:26:44You gotta get your left hand up.
00:26:48Now he's trying.
00:26:49He gave you about three different,
00:26:51you gave it to him
00:26:52about three different times now,
00:26:54and he's still around
00:26:55with one punch like that.
00:26:57Okay?
00:26:58Keep your left hand up.
00:27:00Your jab is working good.
00:27:01Keep working your jab.
00:27:03Well, Lehman's Brewster's
00:27:04right hand has been dusted off
00:27:06out of mothballs,
00:27:07and he lands it again
00:27:09against Sergei Lojovich.
00:27:11McGirt and Brewster promised us
00:27:13we'd see this punch more.
00:27:15And we have.
00:27:16Now, there's that right
00:27:17to the body,
00:27:17gets away with it,
00:27:18and throws the left hook.
00:27:19Two things that Lojovich
00:27:20shouldn't get away
00:27:21with doing in this fight,
00:27:22but he did.
00:27:23Why?
00:27:23Because Lehman Brewster
00:27:24was passive.
00:27:26Good left hook there
00:27:27by Sergei Lojovich,
00:27:2922-1 with 14 knockouts.
00:27:32His lone blemish came
00:27:34in 0-2,
00:27:34a ninth-round knockout
00:27:35to Maurice Harris.
00:27:41Fully recovered
00:27:42from a torn cartilage
00:27:43in his chest
00:27:44that forced him
00:27:45to withdraw.
00:27:46Nice combination
00:27:47to the head
00:27:48by Lojovich.
00:27:49A draw from a fight
00:27:50with Owen Beck
00:27:51in September 0-5.
00:27:54You know,
00:27:54Lojovich got very good
00:27:55sparring from Robert Hawkins,
00:27:57who is very,
00:27:57I think,
00:27:58a good fighter
00:27:58to simulate
00:28:00Brewster's style.
00:28:02Hawkins just had a fight
00:28:03with Sam Peter,
00:28:03in which he went
00:28:04the distance with him
00:28:05and looked pretty good
00:28:06even in losing.
00:28:09Lehman Brewster,
00:28:1033-2 with 29 knockouts
00:28:12as Lojovich goes
00:28:15to the body.
00:28:17He cannot resist
00:28:19leading with that right.
00:28:20I've never seen a fight.
00:28:21He's done it in this fight
00:28:22already about 12 times.
00:28:23I've never seen a fighter
00:28:24use that punch
00:28:25as much as Lojovich.
00:28:26Lojovich warned there
00:28:27about a kidney punch
00:28:28by the referee,
00:28:29Ernest Sharif.
00:28:33Right there again,
00:28:34we saw the right
00:28:35to the body.
00:28:35This time Brewster
00:28:36tried to land
00:28:37the left hook
00:28:37and it didn't get there.
00:28:38The hand speed
00:28:39of Lojovich,
00:28:40I think,
00:28:40is more impressive
00:28:42than Brewster
00:28:43thought it would be.
00:28:50They're throwing
00:28:50home run shots.
00:28:51Both wing it.
00:28:57The crowd is into it.
00:29:00A borderline shot
00:29:02there by Lojovich.
00:29:04In some ways,
00:29:11this match now
00:29:11starting to take on
00:29:12the tenor of other
00:29:14Lehman Brewster
00:29:14championship fights.
00:29:16Him having some issues
00:29:17early in fights
00:29:18against these tall fighters
00:29:20who throw combinations
00:29:21against him.
00:29:25Oh, big left hook
00:29:26to the head,
00:29:27to the chin
00:29:28by Lojovich.
00:29:29That really caught Brewster.
00:29:32He was coming right in.
00:29:37So far,
00:29:37the headline of this fight
00:29:39is the hand speed
00:29:40of Lojovich.
00:29:40He's quick.
00:29:41And another left hook
00:29:42that's scored by Lojovich.
00:29:44That one blocked
00:29:44by Brewster.
00:29:45Lojovich better not get
00:29:49too enamored
00:29:49with the hook, though,
00:29:50because if you continue
00:29:51to trade left hooks
00:29:52with a fighter
00:29:53like Brewster,
00:29:53it will cost you,
00:29:55ultimately.
00:29:55This is similar
00:29:57to the Luan Krasnice fight
00:29:59for Brewster.
00:30:00Very much so.
00:30:00Where he was being outboxed
00:30:02for a good portion.
00:30:02He was behind
00:30:03on the scorecards
00:30:04when he came back
00:30:04to stop Krasnice
00:30:06in the ninth.
00:30:08Of course,
00:30:08it was the same scenario
00:30:09against Wladimir Klitschko.
00:30:12And he came back
00:30:13to win by knockout.
00:30:14So these rounds,
00:30:15we should throw
00:30:16the caveat out
00:30:17that you can't expect
00:30:19Brewster to be dominated
00:30:20the whole fight like this.
00:30:21Yeah, we set the stage
00:30:22for that.
00:30:22We said he can be that way.
00:30:24All right.
00:30:25Soft warning.
00:30:26Don't do it again.
00:30:27Another warning
00:30:28from the referee,
00:30:30Ernest Sharif.
00:30:34The lovely
00:30:34Irina Lojovic,
00:30:36the wife of Sergei.
00:30:41She has to like
00:30:42what she's seeing thus far.
00:30:47Sergei.
00:30:54Well, Lojovic
00:30:55has been able to,
00:30:56look at him,
00:30:56throws it right to the body
00:30:58and then a left hook
00:30:59to the head.
00:30:59We've seen that combination
00:31:01from him a number of times.
00:31:02He shouldn't be able
00:31:03to get away with that
00:31:04against Brewster,
00:31:05but he is primarily
00:31:06because he's throwing
00:31:07these combinations
00:31:07so quickly.
00:31:09See, Brewster tried
00:31:09to counter with the left hook.
00:31:11He just couldn't get it there.
00:31:15Until he does,
00:31:16you keep pumping him
00:31:17with that jab
00:31:18and you get off
00:31:19combination.
00:31:20Quick and gone.
00:31:22Get out of there.
00:31:22Get out.
00:31:24Let's go.
00:31:24Come on.
00:31:25Raise up.
00:31:25I can't get out.
00:31:27You're standing here, man.
00:31:29While Lojovic looked
00:31:31a little out of shape
00:31:32in his last fight
00:31:32with Dominic Gwynn,
00:31:33he did surprise a lot
00:31:35of people by effectively
00:31:36moving off his combination,
00:31:38showed good footwork
00:31:39for a big man.
00:31:39He is pretty nimble
00:31:40for a large man
00:31:41and he's showing good speed
00:31:43with his hands here
00:31:45against Brewster,
00:31:46as Al pointed out.
00:31:47Now, Buddy McGirt
00:31:48told us the key
00:31:49for Brewster is
00:31:51be doing something.
00:31:53You know,
00:31:53if you're not going
00:31:54to be attacking
00:31:54and throwing punches,
00:31:55at least be moving
00:31:56your head.
00:31:56Don't languish
00:31:57on the outside.
00:31:58He's not done that
00:32:01during every moment
00:32:02of this fight.
00:32:02He's had his moments
00:32:04of just being stationary
00:32:05in the outside.
00:32:06He's paid for it.
00:32:07McGirt, a two-time
00:32:08world champion,
00:32:08he calls it a rhythm.
00:32:10He wants Brewster
00:32:11to get into a rhythm.
00:32:12First double jab
00:32:13Brewster has thrown
00:32:14in this fight
00:32:15and look at what
00:32:16it did for him.
00:32:16It was excellent.
00:32:18And Jojovic comes back
00:32:19with a double left hook.
00:32:23Jojovic stuffing the jab.
00:32:30Jojovic looking
00:32:31very impressive.
00:32:32In terms of technique,
00:32:33and he showed a lot
00:32:34of this against Dominic Nguyen,
00:32:36he is a fairly polished fighter.
00:32:40But certainly a step up
00:32:41from Krasnick.
00:32:44Brewster's last opponent,
00:32:45which was about
00:32:46seven months ago.
00:32:47And that fight
00:32:48was wildly exciting.
00:32:49Not seen in the United States
00:32:50at all.
00:32:52But it was a wild fight.
00:32:55Brewster continues
00:32:56his inconsistency.
00:32:58Well, he can be
00:32:59crowd-pleasing,
00:33:00busy all action,
00:33:01sometimes slow and deliberate.
00:33:02Nice left hand
00:33:03by Jojovic.
00:33:04I cannot believe
00:33:06Jojovic is getting away
00:33:07with those right hands
00:33:08to the body.
00:33:09Threw another one
00:33:10and it wasn't as quick
00:33:11and Brewster
00:33:11shouldn't even try
00:33:12to counter him.
00:33:13But we should say
00:33:14it just could be
00:33:15a matter of time
00:33:16before Brewster
00:33:17gets the wake-up call
00:33:18as we've seen so often
00:33:21and starts wailing away.
00:33:22History would tell us
00:33:24it's going to happen.
00:33:24We'll see.
00:33:25Hard body shot
00:33:28by Jojovic.
00:33:34Brewster does get hit a lot.
00:33:44And you made the point
00:33:46this is the heaviest Brewster
00:33:47has been
00:33:48in his championship match,
00:33:50his second heaviest
00:33:51of his career at 232.
00:33:53Is he ready to fight
00:33:55over the long haul?
00:33:57We'll see.
00:33:58And the Hovitz
00:33:59still looks much better
00:34:00physically than he did
00:34:01in his last fight
00:34:02which was a long time ago,
00:34:0316 months back.
00:34:06Much tighter
00:34:07around the midsection.
00:34:10Obviously quicker,
00:34:11faster.
00:34:19Brewster is just not
00:34:21as active
00:34:22as they would
00:34:22like him to be.
00:34:23I'm sure
00:34:23Buddy McCartney
00:34:24will talk to him
00:34:25about that
00:34:25as these rounds go on.
00:34:27And the Hovitz
00:34:28making him miss wildness.
00:34:30And again,
00:34:32hitting nothing but air.
00:34:40Okay, listen to me.
00:34:41Keep the pressure on him.
00:34:43Those hooks
00:34:43that you're throwing,
00:34:44throw those hooks
00:34:45to the body.
00:34:46Don't worry about the head.
00:34:48Okay.
00:34:48Throw them to the body.
00:34:49Okay.
00:34:49Okay, the right hands
00:34:50are landing good.
00:34:51Okay?
00:34:52But shoot those hooks
00:34:53to the body.
00:34:54All right?
00:34:54Don't worry about his head.
00:34:55You're shooting
00:34:55a nice right hand
00:34:56bringing the left hook
00:34:57back downstairs.
00:34:58Okay.
00:34:59But this is what
00:34:59we got to do.
00:35:00You got to stop
00:35:00backing him up now.
00:35:01Back him up
00:35:02with that double jab.
00:35:03More than one.
00:35:03Okay?
00:35:04No more.
00:35:06When Brewster uses
00:35:07a double jab
00:35:08as he did here
00:35:09early in the round,
00:35:09it's so effective.
00:35:11But he went away
00:35:13from that
00:35:13for almost
00:35:14the entire rest
00:35:15of the round.
00:35:17And at the end
00:35:18of the round,
00:35:19Lachovic landing
00:35:20a good short left hook.
00:35:22Brewster did try
00:35:23to counter him.
00:35:24He just couldn't
00:35:25get it there.
00:35:25Hand speed of Lachovic
00:35:27better than Brewster
00:35:28expected.
00:35:29It may be better
00:35:30than a lot of people
00:35:30expected, Steve.
00:35:31No question about it.
00:35:32I hope it's outboxing,
00:35:34outworking the champion,
00:35:35Lehman Brewster,
00:35:36trying to lift
00:35:37the WBO heavyweight title
00:35:39from the Indianapolis
00:35:41born fighter.
00:35:46You heard Buddy McGirt's
00:35:47words to Lehman Brewster.
00:35:50Go after him.
00:35:53Brewster happy
00:35:54to be fighting in Ohio.
00:35:56He's from Indiana.
00:35:57He knew Michael
00:35:58Dokes very well.
00:35:59Of course,
00:36:00was in that great title
00:36:01fight in 1983.
00:36:03He is a real,
00:36:04Lehman is a very
00:36:05interesting man
00:36:06in any case.
00:36:06He has a sense of history
00:36:07about boxing
00:36:08in the Midwest
00:36:08and he wants to give
00:36:10a great performance
00:36:11here tonight.
00:36:11So far,
00:36:12it's not quite
00:36:12what he would like.
00:36:13He knows that
00:36:14this is the home
00:36:14of Dokes,
00:36:16Buster Douglas,
00:36:16Tim Austin,
00:36:18Ohio.
00:36:18Watch the feet.
00:36:19Watch your feet.
00:36:20Watch your feet.
00:36:22Take a look
00:36:22at press row,
00:36:24Allen.
00:36:24It's all
00:36:25La Hove.
00:36:27And I agree.
00:36:28I have a 39-37
00:36:29for La Hove.
00:36:32Gary Eswick
00:36:33from the Akron
00:36:33Beacon Journal.
00:36:34Joe Maxey,
00:36:35the Cleveland
00:36:35Plain Dealer,
00:36:36George Phillips,
00:36:37BoxingScene.com.
00:36:41Round 5 scheduled
00:36:42for 12
00:36:43for the WBO
00:36:43Heavyweight title
00:36:44and thus far,
00:36:45the man in green
00:36:46and red
00:36:47from Belarus
00:36:47originally.
00:36:49Sergey La Hove.
00:36:50has impressed.
00:36:53And again,
00:36:54Brewster being
00:36:55very passive
00:36:56and giving away
00:36:57these early rounds
00:36:58as he has
00:36:58in other fights
00:36:59like the fight
00:37:00against Krasnice
00:37:01and against Klitschko.
00:37:05Early on
00:37:05in the career,
00:37:06Brewster,
00:37:07he lost to people
00:37:08like Charles Shuford
00:37:09and Clifford Etienne
00:37:10and that raised
00:37:11suspicion right there
00:37:12about him.
00:37:13A couple of the reasons
00:37:14the jury's still out
00:37:16on Lehman.
00:37:18Bigelow took him
00:37:19a moment ago.
00:37:19Now Brewster is
00:37:20throwing punches
00:37:21with conviction.
00:37:23Huge right hand
00:37:24to the top of
00:37:24La Hove's head
00:37:26and he turns up
00:37:26the heat
00:37:27and he gets this crowd
00:37:28going.
00:37:29There's a left hook
00:37:29to the head
00:37:30that staggered La Hove.
00:37:33Now he gets
00:37:33to the body.
00:37:34Upstairs with a left hook
00:37:35and a right hand.
00:37:36He's trying to end it here.
00:37:40Oh, what a vicious
00:37:41left hook to the head
00:37:42but La Hove has a great
00:37:44chin and a lot of heart.
00:37:47And La Hove's landed
00:37:48well off the ropes.
00:37:50La Hove has the warrior
00:37:51mentality but these
00:37:53are bombs
00:37:53by Brewster.
00:37:59Big right hand
00:38:00to the head
00:38:00by Brewster.
00:38:01A left hook to the head,
00:38:02a right hand to the head.
00:38:04And what's holding
00:38:06La Hove's up?
00:38:08A huge heart.
00:38:10That's why.
00:38:11And he comes back.
00:38:16Brewster may have
00:38:17punched himself out.
00:38:18Back comes La Hove.
00:38:21Now Brewster pressed
00:38:23against the ropes.
00:38:25Seconds remaining.
00:38:26Ernie Sharif took forever.
00:38:27What was that all about?
00:38:28Wait a minute.
00:38:29The bell rang.
00:38:29There were five,
00:38:30six seconds left
00:38:31in the round.
00:38:33So some confusion
00:38:34here in Cleveland.
00:38:35Listen to me.
00:38:38You're a good one.
00:38:41Damn.
00:38:41What are you doing,
00:38:42ref?
00:38:43Come on.
00:38:44Jeez.
00:38:45What are you doing?
00:38:48Hey.
00:38:49Put your hands
00:38:50in your left.
00:38:51Next time I see you
00:38:52on the ropes like that,
00:38:53I swear I'll throw
00:38:54the stool at you.
00:38:55What are you doing here?
00:38:58What are you doing?
00:39:00Hey, you got good feet.
00:39:01This guy's dog tired.
00:39:03Stay in the middle
00:39:03of the ring and keep...
00:39:04Lachovic hit with
00:39:07several good shots.
00:39:09The short right hand
00:39:10and a little left hook
00:39:12and he is reeling
00:39:13and then Brewster
00:39:14would chase him down
00:39:15to the ropes
00:39:15where he would really
00:39:16get some work done.
00:39:17This is where he was
00:39:18first hurt in the round
00:39:19and that left hook
00:39:21off the side of his head
00:39:22may have also affected
00:39:22the equilibrium
00:39:23of Lachovic
00:39:24and once Lachovic
00:39:26was against the ropes,
00:39:28he took phenomenal
00:39:29punishment from
00:39:31Lehman Brewster
00:39:31but then was able
00:39:33to fight his way
00:39:34off the ropes
00:39:35and had Brewster
00:39:36in trouble
00:39:37landing some very,
00:39:38very big shots
00:39:38creating the situation
00:39:40at the end of the round
00:39:41with all that confusion
00:39:42and Ernie Sharif
00:39:42inexplicably jumping in
00:39:44even before the bell.
00:39:46Ernie Sharif
00:39:46out of Pittsburgh
00:39:47getting an earful
00:39:48from Kenny Weldon,
00:39:50the trainer of Lachovic
00:39:51and then Lachovic
00:39:53got an earful
00:39:53from Kenny Weldon.
00:39:55Stay off the ropes
00:39:56with the gist of it.
00:39:57We said it could be
00:39:58a shootout
00:39:59and it's turning
00:39:59into that very early.
00:40:01What a slugfest.
00:40:03Buddy McGirt
00:40:06to Brewster,
00:40:07you gotta go
00:40:08to the body.
00:40:09Here's Lachovic
00:40:10over the top.
00:40:12He doesn't care
00:40:12what McGirt
00:40:13told Brewster.
00:40:14If there's any question
00:40:15about Lachovic's chin,
00:40:17it was answered
00:40:17in that last round.
00:40:20He was hit
00:40:20with some monster shots
00:40:21in his comeback.
00:40:23Wow, good right
00:40:24to the body.
00:40:24That's stunned.
00:40:25Another one
00:40:25by Lachovic.
00:40:28Digging shots
00:40:29by Lachovic.
00:40:29Well, this is why Brewster
00:40:35may not be the best
00:40:37in the heavyweight division,
00:40:38but he's certainly
00:40:39one of the most exciting.
00:40:42Oh, a right hand
00:40:43to the head,
00:40:43straight right
00:40:44by Lachovic.
00:40:45That got Brewster's attention.
00:40:48Brewster wide open.
00:40:51Now a right hand
00:40:52over the top
00:40:53by Brewster.
00:40:54To the body
00:40:54goes Brewster.
00:40:55Back comes Lachovic
00:40:56with a right-left combination.
00:40:58The right really scored.
00:41:03Curious pace
00:41:04for big men.
00:41:05Non-stop action
00:41:06since the fifth round.
00:41:08And what we're seeing
00:41:09is not just exciting,
00:41:10it's skillful.
00:41:11Their technique
00:41:12is superb here.
00:41:14Overhand right
00:41:15and connected
00:41:16by Brewster.
00:41:18Didn't follow it up.
00:41:21Combination
00:41:22left hook to the head.
00:41:23Three-punch combination
00:41:24by Lachovic.
00:41:26Amazing give and take
00:41:28here in round six.
00:41:31Back comes Lachovic
00:41:32after Brewster missed.
00:41:35Lachovic lines Brewster up
00:41:37in his own corner.
00:41:38Brewster's in trouble.
00:41:42Lachovic
00:41:42trying to smother him
00:41:44with left hooks.
00:41:45Steps back
00:41:46and then he comes forward again
00:41:48with shots to the head.
00:41:51Can Brewster battle
00:41:52his way out of the corner?
00:41:54Now he's lifted up.
00:41:55By Lachovic.
00:41:58Now there's blood
00:41:59coming from the nose
00:42:00of Lehman Brewster.
00:42:02I think the body shots
00:42:04of Lachovic
00:42:05are having a massive effect
00:42:06on Brewster.
00:42:08And there was another one, Al.
00:42:09Now he goes upstairs.
00:42:13Beautiful combination
00:42:14to the head
00:42:15by Lachovic
00:42:15that rocks Brewster.
00:42:17Brewster bouncing off the ropes.
00:42:21Incredible action.
00:42:22Now what's holding Brewster up?
00:42:24Brewster's been down
00:42:25only one time
00:42:26in his career
00:42:26but he's in difficulty here.
00:42:29The Hobbits
00:42:29is trying to end it
00:42:30at a six.
00:42:3117 seconds left.
00:42:32In the ring.
00:42:34In the ring.
00:42:34In the back wing.
00:42:36A bloody
00:42:37laser Brewster.
00:42:40Showing a lot of resolve.
00:42:42Oh, a big right hand
00:42:43by Brewster.
00:42:46And a left hook
00:42:48by Brewster.
00:42:49Unbelievable.
00:42:50You gotta stay off the ropes.
00:42:59You gotta stay off the ropes, champ.
00:43:02Okay?
00:43:03You're head-hunting too much, baby.
00:43:05Okay?
00:43:06You're getting under
00:43:07the shots good
00:43:08but you're not
00:43:09punching back to the body.
00:43:12Everything you're doing
00:43:12is to the head.
00:43:14Okay?
00:43:15Bring those up
00:43:15because of the body.
00:43:17Don't be on the ropes
00:43:17taking those shots, champ.
00:43:19All right?
00:43:19Slow your breathing now.
00:43:23Listen, when he's getting
00:43:24those combinations up...
00:43:26Lehovich unloaded
00:43:28this excellent uppercut
00:43:29on the inside
00:43:30and I think that was
00:43:31a punch that had
00:43:32a big impact
00:43:33and started some
00:43:34of the troubles
00:43:34for Lehman Brewster.
00:43:37And later on
00:43:37in the round,
00:43:39Lehovich throwing
00:43:40fantastic combinations.
00:43:42It's the hand speed
00:43:43that, in addition
00:43:43to the power,
00:43:44that has given
00:43:44Lehman Brewster
00:43:45a lot of trouble.
00:43:47The only thing
00:43:48that Lehovich did wrong
00:43:50in that round
00:43:51was toward the end
00:43:52he punched himself out
00:43:54and Brewster came back
00:43:55and hurt him.
00:43:57Well, now we've got
00:43:57an exciting competitive
00:43:59heavyweight championship fight.
00:44:03Round seven.
00:44:06Those last ten seconds
00:44:08of that round,
00:44:08very important ones.
00:44:10How much did he hurt Lehovich?
00:44:12We'll see how Lehovich responds
00:44:13here in this round.
00:44:16Now Brewster stuffing
00:44:17the jab.
00:44:19So does Lehovich.
00:44:23Both expending
00:44:24a lot of energy
00:44:25the last two rounds.
00:44:28Now, it could start
00:44:29to be a test
00:44:30of conditioning
00:44:31and endurance.
00:44:32From this point on,
00:44:34Lehovich with a right cross.
00:44:36Look at that subtle movement
00:44:38by Lehovich.
00:44:39That's helping him.
00:44:40He is giving Brewster
00:44:40just enough lateral movement
00:44:42to make it hard
00:44:43for him to land punches.
00:44:44Welling beginning
00:44:45to develop
00:44:46under the left eye
00:44:47of Lehman Brewster.
00:44:55Now both more measuring.
00:44:59Right hand by Brewster
00:45:01missing.
00:45:01Watch his shoulder.
00:45:02Watch his shoulder.
00:45:03Right hand on the body
00:45:05by Lehovich.
00:45:06And those punches
00:45:06have to be taking effect.
00:45:18Covering right hand
00:45:20by Lehman Brewster
00:45:21to the chin.
00:45:23Press row scoring.
00:45:24It's all Lehovich.
00:45:25Right hand clipped
00:45:34Lehovich.
00:45:36Brewster now
00:45:36takes to the body.
00:45:38Big right hand there.
00:45:39That miss.
00:45:41A surge by Brewster
00:45:42missing with the right.
00:45:46But Brewster turning it up.
00:45:48You can never count
00:45:50Lehman Brewster
00:45:51out of a fight.
00:45:52You just can't.
00:45:52The Brewster corner
00:45:56says keep it up.
00:45:57Keep it up
00:45:58with about a minute to go.
00:45:59Left hook to the head
00:46:00to the temple
00:46:01by Brewster.
00:46:03But back comes Lehovich
00:46:05with a digging shot
00:46:06to the body.
00:46:07And that stunt Brewster.
00:46:09Lehovich with an uppercut
00:46:11on the inside.
00:46:12That's been effective
00:46:13for him.
00:46:14Right hand left
00:46:15missing.
00:46:16Another right hand
00:46:16missing.
00:46:17Another left hand
00:46:18missing by Brewster.
00:46:21Lehovich showing
00:46:22that he can be elusive
00:46:23defensively
00:46:24comes back
00:46:25with a pulling left.
00:46:26Lehovich is tired
00:46:27right now though.
00:46:28And he is in
00:46:29a dangerous situation
00:46:30even with all
00:46:31the good work he's done.
00:46:32Can Brewster take advantage?
00:46:33Nails him with the right
00:46:34and a left hand.
00:46:37Seconds left
00:46:38in the seventh.
00:46:39Let's see how
00:46:39Lehovich responds here.
00:46:41He's down.
00:46:43The accumulative effect
00:46:44put him down
00:46:45to an eight.
00:46:46Three.
00:46:47Four.
00:46:49Five.
00:46:50Six.
00:46:50Seven.
00:46:52Can't be saved
00:46:53by the fowl.
00:46:53Are you okay?
00:46:55In any round
00:46:56Lehovich just needed
00:46:59a breather.
00:47:01Okay.
00:47:03Stand up.
00:47:04Get up for a second.
00:47:05Get up.
00:47:06Sergey, listen to me, man.
00:47:08Why won't you listen to me?
00:47:10Why won't you listen to me?
00:47:12Listen for the championship
00:47:13of the world.
00:47:15And you know what?
00:47:16You ain't listening to me.
00:47:17Get out there and box.
00:47:21At the end of round six,
00:47:23after he'd had Brewster
00:47:24in all kinds of trouble,
00:47:25he punched himself out
00:47:27and for the first time
00:47:28in this fight
00:47:28was, I think, truly hurt.
00:47:31Even though he'd been
00:47:32stunned in earlier rounds.
00:47:34And this was where
00:47:34I think Brewster
00:47:35set the stage
00:47:36for at least having a chance
00:47:37in this last round
00:47:38to come back.
00:47:39Then in round seven,
00:47:40after Lehovich had had
00:47:41a very good start,
00:47:43the Brewster right hand,
00:47:44something they wanted
00:47:44more of and boy,
00:47:45it worked and it got
00:47:46Lehovich into trouble
00:47:48and more important
00:47:49than anything,
00:47:49that body work
00:47:50and that helped
00:47:51wear Lehovich down
00:47:53and send him ultimately
00:47:54to the canvas.
00:47:55What an astonishing fight
00:47:56this is.
00:48:00How many ebbs and flows
00:48:01can there be
00:48:02in a boxing day?
00:48:03Very dramatic stuff here
00:48:05as we end it into round eight.
00:48:07Only the second time
00:48:08Lehovich down in his career.
00:48:11It just happened around seven
00:48:13from a flurry of body shots
00:48:16by Brewster.
00:48:18Body shots, combination punches
00:48:20and Lehovich just needed
00:48:22to get away from him.
00:48:23He was being suffocated
00:48:24by Brewster.
00:48:25Step back clean.
00:48:26Step back clean.
00:48:27So he took a knee.
00:48:28Let's see how Brewster
00:48:33follows it up here
00:48:34in the eighth.
00:48:35It's scheduled for 12,
00:48:36the WBO,
00:48:37heavyweight crown on the line.
00:48:39This would be a good round
00:48:40for Lehovich
00:48:41to set a very slow pace
00:48:43and hope that Brewster
00:48:44follows along,
00:48:45but he's not doing it.
00:48:46Brewster's attacking.
00:48:48The overhand right
00:48:49start of the series.
00:48:50Lehovich with an answer
00:48:52but not much power
00:48:54behind those punches.
00:48:55For the first time
00:48:58in this fight
00:48:58when you hit on it,
00:48:59Steve,
00:49:00Lehovich is pushing
00:49:00his punches.
00:49:01That hasn't happened
00:49:02to this point.
00:49:04Yeah, there's not
00:49:04a lot on it right now
00:49:06and I think just a lot
00:49:07of steam has been
00:49:07taken out of him
00:49:08by the last few rounds
00:49:10of pounding
00:49:11he's taken by Brewster.
00:49:13And all in rounds
00:49:14in which Lehovich
00:49:14could easily have won
00:49:15those rounds
00:49:16if not for a few
00:49:17twists and turns.
00:49:18Oh, great body shot
00:49:19by Lehovich.
00:49:20And Lehovich
00:49:21comes back upstairs,
00:49:22partially blocked
00:49:23by Brewster,
00:49:24but Brewster's got
00:49:25that tremendous chin
00:49:26and he comes back
00:49:28with the right hand
00:49:28over the top.
00:49:31Lehovich is languishing
00:49:32on the inside
00:49:33too much.
00:49:34He's giving Brewster
00:49:34a better chance
00:49:35to hit those left hooks
00:49:36and uppercuts.
00:49:37And a smacking right hand
00:49:38to the head
00:49:39by Lehovich
00:49:40who has no quit
00:49:41in his.
00:49:43Big miss by Brewster
00:49:44trying to end matters
00:49:45on one punch
00:49:46and he can do that.
00:49:49Here comes Lehovich
00:49:51again started
00:49:52by an uppercut
00:49:53on the inside
00:49:54which has been
00:49:54successful for him
00:49:56and intelligently
00:49:58throwing it
00:49:59from close range
00:50:00not from too far out
00:50:01which could be
00:50:02very dangerous
00:50:02as far as a countering
00:50:04shot.
00:50:05Ask Buster Douglas
00:50:06versus Evander Holyfield.
00:50:09Now how that last round
00:50:11is scored
00:50:11will be interesting.
00:50:12I scored the one point
00:50:13round for Brewster
00:50:14with the knockdown
00:50:15because Lehovich
00:50:16had dominated
00:50:16so much
00:50:17in the rest
00:50:17of the round.
00:50:18Believe it or not
00:50:22there is the possibility
00:50:23we'll go to the decision.
00:50:25Yes.
00:50:26Possible.
00:50:29Heaven forbid though
00:50:31should I say it?
00:50:33Starts with a D
00:50:34Oh goodness.
00:50:35Ends in a W.
00:50:37We've got a ways
00:50:38to go before that
00:50:39but this fight
00:50:40is a close fight
00:50:41make no mistake
00:50:42about that.
00:50:44Good round
00:50:44for the most part
00:50:45for Lehovich spot.
00:50:49It's been dizzy.
00:50:52Brewster
00:50:53missing
00:50:54and then finally
00:50:55nailed it
00:50:55with a left cup.
00:51:03The gutsy Lehovich
00:51:04though
00:51:04hanging in there.
00:51:07There's the bell
00:51:07to end round eight.
00:51:08If you think
00:51:21if you think
00:51:23that you can stand
00:51:25toe to toe
00:51:26with this guy
00:51:26and win this fight
00:51:28you're wrong.
00:51:31I've asked you
00:51:32all night long
00:51:33to get your left hand up.
00:51:35You ain't got it up yet.
00:51:36Get your hands up
00:51:37and start boxing
00:51:38and this guy
00:51:39is dead.
00:51:40Do you understand me?
00:51:41Telling you the truth
00:51:42baby.
00:51:43You've got to listen to him.
00:51:44Think speed.
00:51:44Don't even think power.
00:51:45You'll bust him up
00:51:46with speed.
00:51:47Come on.
00:51:48Keep your hands up.
00:51:49Let's need that.
00:51:50It's taking juice
00:51:50out of you.
00:51:51Let's go.
00:51:53Drink this.
00:51:54Mouthpiece please.
00:51:55Okay.
00:51:56Look here baby.
00:51:57Double jabs.
00:51:58Keep backing them up.
00:51:59Keep that head moving.
00:52:00Okay.
00:52:01Uppercuts on the inside.
00:52:03Excuse me.
00:52:04Stop loading up.
00:52:09Sergey Lehovich
00:52:10picked up a bad
00:52:11American trait
00:52:12of carrying his
00:52:13left hand too low
00:52:14and Kenny Weldon
00:52:15in his face
00:52:16telling him
00:52:17keep the left hand up.
00:52:18That's as good
00:52:20corner work
00:52:20as you can possibly
00:52:22have from Kenny Weldon.
00:52:24Well he's highly
00:52:25regarded work
00:52:26with Holyfield
00:52:26as we mentioned
00:52:27Colonel Whitaker
00:52:28Mildrick Taylor
00:52:29the pride of
00:52:30Kalina Park Texas.
00:52:31But his guy's
00:52:32not listening to him.
00:52:33I mean he needs
00:52:34to get separation
00:52:35from Brewster
00:52:35use the jab
00:52:36just a little
00:52:37lateral movement.
00:52:38Kenny Weldon
00:52:39is saying
00:52:39exactly the right
00:52:40thing to him.
00:52:42And Buddy McGirt
00:52:43in the other corner
00:52:44told Lehman Brewster
00:52:45uppercuts
00:52:46on the inside.
00:52:50But they just
00:52:51don't want
00:52:52Lehovich trading
00:52:53with Brewster.
00:52:55Yeah McGirt
00:52:56also wants
00:52:56to move to the
00:52:57right to get
00:52:57away from
00:52:58the body shot.
00:53:00There it is.
00:53:05On cue.
00:53:06How many of those
00:53:07has he landed?
00:53:08I would have sworn
00:53:09if he throws all those
00:53:10he's going to get
00:53:11counted with a big
00:53:11left hook.
00:53:12It hasn't happened.
00:53:14It's tightening up
00:53:15according to press
00:53:16roll.
00:53:16George Phillips
00:53:17hasn't evened.
00:53:19That's unofficial.
00:53:20George from
00:53:21BoxingScene.com
00:53:22I've got it even
00:53:23at 76-76
00:53:24because we don't know
00:53:26how the judges
00:53:26are looking at it.
00:53:27Lehovich now
00:53:28is giving himself
00:53:29a little more distance
00:53:30and when you do that
00:53:31against Lehman Brewster
00:53:32sometimes Brewster
00:53:33Steve just doesn't
00:53:34come and get you.
00:53:36And he's not doing
00:53:37it right now
00:53:38to Lehovich.
00:53:38Well he does
00:53:39have a reputation
00:53:40at times of being
00:53:41a little lazy
00:53:42over the top
00:53:42and Brewster's
00:53:44in difficulty.
00:53:46Lehovich
00:53:46with a breakthrough.
00:53:47big action here
00:53:49for Lehovich.
00:53:50Can he finish
00:53:51Brewster off
00:53:52in round nine?
00:53:54He's got to be
00:53:55careful.
00:53:55That's too many
00:53:56punches for Lehovich.
00:53:57He needs to
00:53:58measure this.
00:54:00Can Brewster
00:54:01survive this
00:54:02onslaught
00:54:02by Lehovich?
00:54:05Brewster's been
00:54:06down only once.
00:54:08Lehovich is
00:54:09smothering his punches.
00:54:10He needs to
00:54:10step back
00:54:11and not throw
00:54:12so many.
00:54:13Killed a barrage
00:54:14by Lehovich.
00:54:15Oh big right hand
00:54:16over the top
00:54:17by Lehovich.
00:54:17To the body
00:54:18by Lehovich.
00:54:19Missed with the
00:54:19uppercut.
00:54:20A left puck
00:54:21down to the head
00:54:22by Brewster.
00:54:23And what's
00:54:24holding Brewster
00:54:24up besides the ropes?
00:54:27It's his big heart.
00:54:29Bloodied nose,
00:54:30bloodied lip.
00:54:32Brewster
00:54:32hangs tough.
00:54:34Lehovich
00:54:35firing bombs
00:54:36to Lehovich.
00:54:38Brewster just
00:54:39standing there.
00:54:40He nails him
00:54:40with a straight
00:54:41right.
00:54:43Now Brewster
00:54:46hoping Lehovich
00:54:47punched himself out.
00:54:48Now Lehovich
00:54:49looks tired.
00:54:50Yep.
00:54:51You bet she is.
00:54:52Too many punches.
00:54:54He smothered them
00:54:54and he didn't
00:54:55take advantage
00:54:56of this opportunity.
00:54:57Should have been
00:54:58on the outside
00:54:58just taking away.
00:55:00Ten seconds left
00:55:01in the ninth round.
00:55:03Did Lehovich
00:55:03let Brewster
00:55:04off the hook?
00:55:07Brewster missing
00:55:08with the right.
00:55:09Lehovich back
00:55:10with a combination.
00:55:11Oh brother.
00:55:13Brewster can barely
00:55:16make it back
00:55:17to the corner.
00:55:18Well catch it.
00:55:20Talk to me.
00:55:21I'm alright.
00:55:22Put your head
00:55:22over this line.
00:55:24Put your head
00:55:24over this bucket.
00:55:25Put your head
00:55:25over the bucket.
00:55:31That's a fighter man.
00:55:32He's good baby.
00:55:33He's good.
00:55:35Well Lehmann Brewster
00:55:36got hit with a right hand
00:55:37and I'll tell you what
00:55:38that affected his
00:55:39equilibrium
00:55:39where it landed
00:55:40and that's part
00:55:41of the reason
00:55:41why he couldn't
00:55:43stand.
00:55:44Just was wobbling
00:55:45all over
00:55:46and then
00:55:46Lehovich did land
00:55:48some very good punches
00:55:49here.
00:55:50However,
00:55:51when he had Brewster
00:55:53against the ropes
00:55:54all this shoeshine
00:55:55activity
00:55:56too much
00:55:57for Lehovich.
00:55:59Yes, he won the round.
00:56:00Yes, he won it dramatically
00:56:01but he put himself
00:56:02in harm's way
00:56:03to get nailed later.
00:56:05Should have been
00:56:05measuring his punches
00:56:06and staying on the outside
00:56:07but he won a big,
00:56:10big, big round
00:56:11and will Brewster
00:56:14be able to recover
00:56:15with this minute rest?
00:56:18Sergey Lehovich
00:56:19was down
00:56:20in the seventh round
00:56:21showing initiative
00:56:23in the ninth
00:56:24as we hit
00:56:25double figures.
00:56:27Against
00:56:27Callie Meehan,
00:56:29Lehmann Brewster
00:56:30came back
00:56:30to win the last
00:56:31three rounds
00:56:32in that fight
00:56:33to pull a victory
00:56:34out when it looked
00:56:35like he was
00:56:35going to lose.
00:56:36That fight though
00:56:37not fought
00:56:38at this pace
00:56:39that's for sure.
00:56:42Lehovich's corner
00:56:44keeps telling him
00:56:45stop trying
00:56:47for the knockout.
00:56:48Round 10 scheduled
00:56:55for 12.
00:56:58Tremendous action
00:56:59here in this
00:57:00heavyweight battle
00:57:01in Cleveland.
00:57:02It may seem strange
00:57:04for Kenny Weldon
00:57:05to be telling Lehovich
00:57:06don't go for a knockout
00:57:07when obviously
00:57:07you can hurt Brewster
00:57:08so much
00:57:09but it's almost impossible
00:57:10to knock Lehmann Brewster out
00:57:12so what you need to do
00:57:13is win rounds
00:57:14by hurting him
00:57:15but not punch yourself
00:57:17out and put yourself
00:57:18in harm
00:57:18for where you got knocked out
00:57:19because that's what
00:57:20Lehmann Brewster does to you.
00:57:21Brewster's two losses
00:57:22by decision.
00:57:24He's been down
00:57:24only once
00:57:25against Vladimir Klitschko
00:57:26round four
00:57:27court on the temple.
00:57:28He wasn't hurt
00:57:29and he came back
00:57:30to win
00:57:30in that dramatic
00:57:31comeback round five.
00:57:32Here's Lehovich
00:57:33again to the head
00:57:34with a combination.
00:57:40Lehovich
00:57:41sticking the jab
00:57:42shotgun jab.
00:57:43This is a tactical round
00:57:45for Lehovich.
00:57:46Nice overhand
00:57:47right by Brewster
00:57:47that nailed him.
00:57:48Yeah, Lehmann Brewster
00:57:49needs to be aggressive here.
00:57:51He really does.
00:57:53Let's see if he's got
00:57:54his energy back
00:57:56after taking quite a beating
00:57:58in the last round.
00:58:00I mean, Lehmann Brewster
00:58:01is just the toughest guy
00:58:02you will ever see.
00:58:04And Lehovich has shown us
00:58:05plenty of toughness
00:58:06here as well.
00:58:07No question.
00:58:08both have to be
00:58:13extremely fatigued.
00:58:16In this round,
00:58:17Lehovich has gone back
00:58:18to using the jab
00:58:19and that's been a key
00:58:20for him to perform
00:58:22so well here in round ten.
00:58:25Will this be the one time
00:58:27Lehmann Brewster
00:58:28can't pull it out?
00:58:29We'll see.
00:58:29Lehmann Brewster
00:58:30has won his last nine,
00:58:36eight by KO.
00:58:42Lehovich, who hasn't fought
00:58:43in 16 months,
00:58:45so this is impressive
00:58:46just for that.
00:58:47Yep.
00:58:48They said he was ready
00:58:49to go 20 rounds.
00:58:50Well, guess what?
00:58:51He's showing fantastic stamina
00:58:53and winning this tenth round
00:58:55in impressive fashion
00:58:56and winning it the right way
00:58:58the way Kenny Weldon
00:58:59wants him to win.
00:59:01Yeah, he's boxing.
00:59:04Not going for the knockout,
00:59:06sticking the jab,
00:59:07a triple jab there
00:59:07by Lehovich,
00:59:08then a right hand to the body.
00:59:11That has been very effective
00:59:13all night long.
00:59:13When you hear that whistle,
00:59:23get out of the ring.
00:59:24I didn't hear it.
00:59:25I can't hear it.
00:59:28Listen, man.
00:59:29You got a second wind yet?
00:59:31Take a deep breath.
00:59:32Come on.
00:59:32You look great.
00:59:33Take a deep breath.
00:59:35Come on.
00:59:36And listen to me, Sergei.
00:59:38This fight is won with a jab.
00:59:40You understand?
00:59:42Hey.
00:59:42Hey, every chance you get,
00:59:44you can hit him with something else,
00:59:46but don't stand up.
00:59:47Yeah, okay.
00:59:47Keep using your jab.
00:59:49If you throw that wide right
00:59:50to the body
00:59:51and he starts taking it away,
00:59:52stop throwing that.
00:59:53Okay.
00:59:54You understand?
00:59:55I understand.
00:59:56Look,
00:59:56and when you get close,
00:59:57get your speed off.
00:59:58You're not,
00:59:59I mean, you'll kill him.
01:00:00Yeah, yeah.
01:00:00You're busting him all up.
01:00:01Here you go.
01:00:02Drink this water.
01:00:03Drink this.
01:00:05Drink that, baby.
01:00:06Drink it.
01:00:07Okay.
01:00:10Here you go.
01:00:10Here you go.
01:00:11Let's suck it up.
01:00:12Let's suck it up, dude.
01:00:14Fight!
01:00:15Get on up and fight, champ!
01:00:17Fight!
01:00:19Al, you were all over it
01:00:20in terms of strategy.
01:00:21We heard what Kenny Weldon had to say.
01:00:24Well, he knows that right to the body
01:00:26is a danger,
01:00:27although they've gotten away with it all night,
01:00:29but he cautioned his fighter,
01:00:32if you think that's dangerous,
01:00:33don't throw that punch,
01:00:34and if he takes it away,
01:00:35go back to the jab.
01:00:37I mean, Kenny Weldon's done
01:00:38a tremendous job in that corner.
01:00:40He really has.
01:00:41Championship rounds, round 11.
01:00:47In what has developed
01:00:48into a fantastic belt.
01:00:51You know, there's a lot of talk
01:00:52about basketball these days.
01:00:55Sergey Lehovich is now
01:00:56almost like a team
01:00:57that just wants to run clock.
01:00:58Both men have only had one fight
01:01:06over 12 rounds.
01:01:07They've both won them.
01:01:10And as I pointed out,
01:01:11Brewster had to come back
01:01:13to win the fight against Mir.
01:01:16So both inexperienced
01:01:18in this arena,
01:01:20and there's a nice shot,
01:01:21a left hook
01:01:21that stuns the champion.
01:01:24Lehovich connecting.
01:01:26This time,
01:01:27he took a step back.
01:01:29Lehovich is doing this
01:01:30the right way.
01:01:32Much more measured.
01:01:34Step back clean.
01:01:36And he's not
01:01:37just trying to pummel Brewster.
01:01:41Let's see what ensues from here.
01:01:43Nice jab.
01:01:44A double left-hand
01:01:45stuffed by Lehovich.
01:01:48Frustrating Brewster.
01:01:50Now body shot.
01:01:52Hard.
01:01:53Tough body shot by Lehovich.
01:01:54That really has to be
01:01:55taken a lot out of Brewster.
01:01:58Unofficially pressed row.
01:02:00Lehovich with two out of the three
01:02:02taking charge.
01:02:03Joe Maxey from the Cleveland
01:02:04Plain Dealer has it even.
01:02:05I have Lehovich winning
01:02:06by two points in this fight.
01:02:08Certainly in round 11 thus far,
01:02:10you would think he's winning
01:02:11this round.
01:02:12Though things can change
01:02:13as we've noted very quickly.
01:02:14for this fight.
01:02:16Approaching the final minute
01:02:18of the 11th round.
01:02:19A good round for
01:02:20the challenger, Lehovich.
01:02:21One key thing is that
01:02:23in the last several rounds,
01:02:24last two especially,
01:02:25we have not seen
01:02:26Lehmann Brewster throw punches
01:02:27with a lot of conviction
01:02:28and really not too many punches,
01:02:30period.
01:02:30Beautiful.
01:02:31Doubling up on the jab
01:02:32by Lehovich.
01:02:34And he's doing exactly
01:02:35what Kenny Weldon
01:02:36told him to do
01:02:37while Brewster's trying
01:02:38to end it on one punch.
01:02:39Nice right hand by Brewster.
01:02:40Lehovich is putting himself
01:02:41a little bit in harm's way there.
01:02:44And Lehmann still has power.
01:02:47In both hands,
01:02:48as we have seen tonight.
01:02:50Oh, there's that straight
01:02:52right hand
01:02:52that got Lehovich's attention
01:02:55and he holds on.
01:02:56Get your hands up!
01:02:58Big right hand by Lehmann Brewster.
01:03:04And that slowed Lehovich
01:03:05in his tracks.
01:03:08We approach 10 seconds
01:03:10left in the 11th.
01:03:11And Brewster trying
01:03:12to turn the round around.
01:03:17But back comes Lehovich
01:03:19with a left-right combination
01:03:20upstairs.
01:03:21Did Lehovich do enough
01:03:28to take it?
01:03:30Give me, give me, give me, give me.
01:03:33Put your head over the bucket.
01:03:34Put your head over the bucket.
01:03:35Put your head over the bucket.
01:03:39Okay, champ.
01:03:41Last round.
01:03:42You have to back him up
01:03:43and you got to stay low.
01:03:45Don't take no unnecessary shots.
01:03:47I'm not going to let you do that.
01:03:48You understand me?
01:03:49You've got to listen.
01:03:51Don't pull out.
01:03:52Okay, don't load up
01:03:54but let your hands go.
01:03:55You're loading up
01:03:55with too many bombs.
01:03:57Okay?
01:03:58Last round.
01:03:58Touch him up.
01:03:59Make sure you step
01:04:00when you jab.
01:04:01You'll bust him up.
01:04:03Hey, hey.
01:04:04Don't go out there.
01:04:05Don't get in a fight
01:04:07this round.
01:04:08He's got to knock you out
01:04:09to win.
01:04:10Just win the round, baby.
01:04:11Okay?
01:04:12Come on.
01:04:13Let's go.
01:04:14Let's go.
01:04:17Let me out.
01:04:19Dramatic, entertaining,
01:04:20competitive, heavyweight championship.
01:04:23They're all standing here
01:04:25in Cleveland, Ohio
01:04:26in celebration
01:04:30of these two warriors.
01:04:32Here we go.
01:04:34The 12th and final round
01:04:35for the WBO Heavyweight Championship.
01:04:41Oh, a right hand to the head
01:04:43by Lojovic.
01:04:44Remember the last words
01:04:47of Kenny Weldon.
01:04:48Don't get in a fight,
01:04:49he told Lojovic.
01:04:51But Brewster may force him
01:04:53to get in a fight.
01:04:55And you heard Kenny Weldon
01:04:56say to Lojovic,
01:04:57Brewster needs a knockout
01:04:59to win the fight.
01:05:01You know, the advice
01:05:01Buddy McGirt gave,
01:05:02get low and go inside.
01:05:04Well, that's what Brewster
01:05:05should have been doing
01:05:05really for all of this fight.
01:05:07Left hook clipped.
01:05:11Lojovic on the top of the head.
01:05:13Not that much damage there.
01:05:16One knockdown of the fight.
01:05:17Lojovic down on a body shot
01:05:18in round seven.
01:05:20Down for the second time
01:05:21in his pro career.
01:05:23Wait, wait.
01:05:24Lojovic is moving in this round,
01:05:25but he's not throwing the jab
01:05:27as much as they would like.
01:05:28And they want him to step in
01:05:29with the jab,
01:05:30but she's not doing it.
01:05:33Brewster in trouble a few times,
01:05:35but refusing to taste the canvas.
01:05:45Brewster trying to end matters
01:05:46on one punch.
01:05:48They missed right hands.
01:05:50The homage was in danger there
01:05:53if that right hand landed.
01:05:55Halfway through the 12th
01:05:56and final round.
01:05:57Now, I have Brewster behind
01:05:59by three points in this fight,
01:06:01so I agree with Kenny Weldon,
01:06:02but of course there are the judges
01:06:03and their official scorecard
01:06:05to be considered.
01:06:06Straight right hand
01:06:07by Lehman Brewster
01:06:08pushed Lojovic back,
01:06:10but he doesn't go that very far.
01:06:11He gets right back into it.
01:06:14A close round 12 so far.
01:06:19Pretty jab by Lojovic.
01:06:22The probing range-finding job
01:06:27by Lojovic,
01:06:28just keeping it in the face
01:06:30of Brewster,
01:06:31keeping him off balance,
01:06:33keeping him out of his rhythms.
01:06:36Nice body shot by Brewster,
01:06:38but Lojovic says,
01:06:40all right, bring it on.
01:06:41Showing a lot of macho here.
01:06:45Final seconds of the 12th
01:06:49and final round.
01:06:50A very confident challenger,
01:06:52Sergey Lojovic,
01:06:53thinks he has put this one
01:06:54in his pocket.
01:06:55And he has done well here
01:06:57in round number 12,
01:06:58and the left eye bothering Brewster.
01:07:01Lojovic outworking,
01:07:03outboxing,
01:07:04outskilling the champion,
01:07:06Lehman Brewster.
01:07:0715 seconds to go.
01:07:10The heavyweight division
01:07:11may be further shaken up
01:07:13in 10 seconds.
01:07:15Yeah, it's the further muddling
01:07:16if Lojovic wins.
01:07:19But boy, it was muddled
01:07:20in an exciting fashion,
01:07:21wasn't it?
01:07:22It certainly was.
01:07:23There's the bell
01:07:24to end a terrific fight.
01:07:26Yeah!
01:07:27Yeah!
01:07:27Yeah!
01:07:28Yeah!
01:07:28Yeah!
01:07:29Yeah!
01:07:29Yeah!
01:07:30Yeah!
01:07:30Yeah!
01:07:31Yeah!

01:07:34Yeah!
01:07:35Yeah!
01:07:36Yeah!
01:07:37Well, what do you think
01:07:52at home?
01:07:56This guy's a Christian, too, Brewster.
01:07:59God bless you, man.
01:08:00God bless you.
01:08:05How do you?
01:08:06How do you think it's a good
01:08:07Hey!
01:08:08Hey!
01:08:08Hey, man!
01:08:09Come on!
01:08:09Give me your hug!
01:08:10Give me your hug!
01:08:10Give me your hug!
01:08:11Give me your hug!
01:08:12Give me your hug!
01:08:13Give me your hug!
01:08:16Give me some hands!
01:08:17Give me some hands!
01:08:18Well, Lehman Brewster's
01:08:19left eye, as you could see,
01:08:20damage, swelling underneath it,
01:08:23blood from the right nostril,
01:08:25all the punishment handed out
01:08:28by the challenger, Sergei Lehovich.
01:08:30Brewster raising his arms in the triumph,
01:08:32Triumph, but you've got to wonder, you've got him losing on the cards.
01:08:37I have it 1-16, 1-12 for Lehovich.
01:08:44Here's Lehovich being congratulated by Buddy McGirt, who's his trainer.
01:08:50Jacob Stitched Duran there, Richie Giacchetti.
01:08:54I told you to be champion.
01:08:56Familiar faces, you heard to get him.
01:08:58I told you, you'd be champion.
01:09:02Maybe you're right.
01:09:03New chump, new chump, look.
01:09:04New chump, here we go.
01:09:06Yes, my man.
01:09:09Important rounds during the course of this fight.
01:09:12In round seven, Sergei Lehovich would find himself in trouble and ultimately go down.
01:09:21And this is a key round because would it be scored a two-point round or just a one-point round for Brewster
01:09:25because Lehovich dominated so much of the rest of the round.
01:09:29This was where he, Lehovich was in serious trouble.
01:09:32He had looked a little bit tired just before this.
01:09:35And then Brewster unleashed a torrent of punches that would end up sending him down.
01:09:41However, Lehovich was far from done.
01:09:48He would get up from this, not go down again in this fight.
01:09:51And in round nine, Lehovich would come back and hurt Lehmann Brewster
01:09:56and get him in the kind of trouble that almost looked like it would end this fight
01:10:02in behalf of Lehovich.
01:10:05After nine rounds, after this ninth round, Brewster was never the same in the fight
01:10:10and, in fact, would never really mount the kind of serious charge he had before that.
01:10:16And in my mind, the last four rounds belonged to Lehovich.
01:10:20And Lehmann Brewster showing us the astonishing will and heart that he has
01:10:28in standing up to this onslaught from Lehovich.
01:10:31But I don't think it was enough for him to win this fight.
01:10:37And you see the punching of Lehovich.
01:10:39He went at Brewster, and one of the keys here is
01:10:43the combination punching was so extraordinary.
01:10:45Well, no matter what happens, a very proud moment for Sergei Lehovich, Kenny Weldon,
01:10:52Richie G. Kenny, Sergei Lehovich, all confident that this is going to go their way
01:10:57and they're going to be the new heavyweight champion.
01:10:59Let's get it up to our ring announcer, Jimmy Lennon Jr., for the official word.
01:11:06Ladies and gentlemen, after 12 rounds of action,
01:11:10we have a unanimous decision here.
01:11:13The score totals, judge at ringside, Dana DiPaolo scores about 115 to 113.
01:11:21Judge Tom Miller sees about 115 to 112.
01:11:27And Phil Rogers scores about 117 to 110.
01:11:32All three in favor of the winner.
01:11:35And new WBO heavyweight champion of the world, Sergei Lehovich.
01:11:45A moment of pride indeed for Sergei Lehovich,
01:11:57who says he not only fights for himself and his family,
01:12:01but for his homeland, Belarus.
01:12:04So the heavyweight picture continues to get more confusing.
01:12:10Another upset in 2006 here on Showtime Championship Box.
01:12:14But let's say this.
01:12:15That young man is 29 years old.
01:12:18Except for Sam Peter, he's the youngest of the top 20 contenders in the heavyweight division,
01:12:22the youngest of the champions.
01:12:24And from what we saw tonight, he's got something to build on.
01:12:28Hand speed, good technique, power, and great shape.
01:12:31I should say, though, Al, although given Brewster's history and track record,
01:12:37not a complete and utter shock that Lehovich won this fight.
01:12:40No, he was an underdog, but certainly not out of this.
01:12:43So we had Zab Judah losing to Carlos Baltimore.
01:12:47O'Neal Bell's win over Jean-Marc Mormek.
01:12:49Joe Calzaghi's unexpected lopsided win over Jeff Lacy.
01:12:54Caught a lot of folks off guard.
01:12:56Sergei Lehovich rated number 13 by the WBO,
01:13:00lifting the title from Lehman Brewster in his first world title shot.
01:13:05Lehovich coming off a 16-month layoff to unseat Brewster.
01:13:09He goes to 23-1, his seventh straight win.
01:13:13Brewster falls to 33-3, his first loss since 2000,
01:13:17the end of a nine-fight win streak and nearly a two-year championship reign.
01:13:21So, Sergei Lehovich reaches a boxer's dream, wins a heavyweight title.
01:13:30A reminder, coming up after post-fight interviews,
01:13:32our 20th anniversary celebration continues
01:13:35as we'll present our nominees for the best of Showtime's KO artists.
01:13:39This is the first installment of our viewer poll
01:13:41to select what you thought were the best performances
01:13:43and most memorable moments during the series' 20-year history.
01:13:48Right now, let's go up to the ring and Karen Bryan.
01:13:52Karen?
01:13:56And Lehman Brewster, Sergei, first I want to talk to you about this.
01:14:00You said you came to America with $100 in your pocket
01:14:03in the hope of becoming a champion.
01:14:04It happened tonight.
01:14:05How are you feeling?
01:14:06I feel great.
01:14:07First of all, you know, like,
01:14:08I borrowed the $100.
01:14:12Oh, you borrowed the $100.
01:14:13Okay.
01:14:14Yeah.
01:14:14So I just feel great.
01:14:15You know, it's Lehman.
01:14:16It's a great champ.
01:14:17You know, he hit, damn it, he hit real hard.
01:14:20And I feel it right now.
01:14:22But, you know, today it's my day.
01:14:24And, you know, I do my best.
01:14:27And I won.
01:14:29You did win.
01:14:29Now, Lehman, you said before that you were coming in this fight
01:14:32you're going to be liquid, you're going to be fluid.
01:14:33You were, but what happened?
01:14:35How do you think it was that Sergei was able to take it away from you tonight?
01:14:38Hey, you know, like I said, God will be done.
01:14:40He won.
01:14:41And, you know, we got a rematch.
01:14:43That's all I can say.
01:14:44You know, he fought a good fight.
01:14:46I take my hat off to you.
01:14:48He's a good fighter, you know.
01:14:50And there's people like him and myself that deserve to be at the top
01:14:53because we show a lot of skill and heart.
01:14:56And, you know, we'll come back and do it again.
01:14:59Now, absolutely.
01:14:59Skill and heart is something that we're looking for in the heavyweight division.
01:15:02A lot of people are looking for a true leader.
01:15:04Would you take him on as a rematch?
01:15:06Because tonight, I've got to tell you,
01:15:07this is one of the most exciting fights I've seen in a very long time.
01:15:10Are you looking to take Lehman on again in a rematch?
01:15:11Absolutely.
01:15:12You know, like I appreciate it.
01:15:13I appreciate, you know, Don.
01:15:14You know, who, you know, these guys, you know, gave me opportunity to fight for this,
01:15:18you know, like for world title.
01:15:19This is, you know, my chance in my life.
01:15:22And this is, you know, just a great opportunity.
01:15:24I appreciate it.
01:15:25And thank you everybody who support me.
01:15:27And it's just great.
01:15:28I give him, absolutely, I give him a rematch.
01:15:30Now, Don, I want to get you in on this really quickly
01:15:33because we talk about how muddled the heavyweight division has been.
01:15:36We've got a new champ tonight.
01:15:38What do you make of the big picture?
01:15:39I think it's a great opportunity.
01:15:41Both of these guys are great champions.
01:15:42Now it's Sergei's time, and he's doing a great job.
01:15:46They all got to fight each other to get one undisputed championship.
01:15:50But they all defect as they go along and do different things,
01:15:53go out the other way.
01:15:53Their mind gets messed up with a whole lot of, you know, people whispering in their ears.
01:15:57Put that aside.
01:15:57They got to fight each other no matter how it comes out.
01:16:00And you can't find a better way to fight because this man will fight anybody,
01:16:04anyplace, anytime, anywhere.
01:16:05You know what I mean?
01:16:06But the people that's out here, this kid here deserves it.
01:16:09I gave it to him, and he came through with flying colors tonight.
01:16:12And I'm just happy that he did it in my hometown.
01:16:14So they show that nobody is trying to do anything.
01:16:16Skullduggery, the man, the best man tonight.
01:16:19Very nice.
01:16:19Well, Lehman Brewster, I want to congratulate you.
01:16:21It was a heck of a fight tonight.
01:16:22And, of course, Sergei, the new champion, congratulations to you as well.
01:16:25And, Steve, I've got to say, I know it was a free preview,
01:16:27but I would have paid a heck of a lot of money to see this fight.
01:16:30Back to you.
01:16:31Got to agree with you, Karen.
01:16:32I think Al does as well.
01:16:34It really was an outstanding heavyweight championship fight here in Cleveland.
01:16:39Let's check the scoring once again.
01:16:40For Brewster versus Lachovic, first, the official judges' scorecards.
01:16:45Dana DiPaolo had it 115-113 for Lachovic.
01:16:49Tom Miller saw it 115-112 for Sergei.
01:16:53And the unanimous decision completed by Phil Rogers,
01:16:56he had it with the biggest disparity, 117-110.
01:16:59And for the press row scores, we see that everybody having it for Lachovic.
01:17:06I scored it 116-112 for Lachovic.
01:17:11So there you have it.
01:17:13Let's go inside the ropes and further dissect the action, Al.
01:17:17All right.
01:17:17As we look back at what was one of the most exciting heavyweight matches
01:17:21in a long, long time.
01:17:24Early on in this match, Lachovic here in the middle rounds,
01:17:30actually, getting Brewster into all kinds of trouble.
01:17:33Lachovic chose to battle in front of Brewster
01:17:36more than Kenny Weldon's trainer would have liked.
01:17:38However, the hand speed was the key element.
01:17:40You see the combination punching from Lachovic.
01:17:42That was the key, I think, in this fight for him.
01:17:45He backed up Brewster continually.
01:17:47We've seen that before.
01:17:48But in this case, instead of single punches,
01:17:51it was Lachovic throwing many punches.
01:17:53And I think that might have been the difference against Brewster.
01:17:55Brewster in trouble on at least five or six occasions in this fight.
01:18:00And only in the one round in which Lachovic went down
01:18:03did he appear to be in some difficulty.
01:18:05Well, people out there, a lot of them will be saying
01:18:08when they see the news in the morning,
01:18:11if they haven't seen the action here on television,
01:18:13they're going to say, Sergei who?
01:18:15But he really did put on a very impressive performance.
01:18:18He did.
01:18:19And Kenny Weldon said he could be the dark horse in the division
01:18:21and he just might well be.
01:18:23And now he's a champion.
01:18:24Everybody on the other side, please.
01:18:27Well, will we see title unification?
01:18:30Stay tuned.

01:19:02we're launching a new feature where you, the viewers,
01:19:05can vote for some of your favorite Showtime moments.
01:19:07Every month, we'll highlight a new category.
01:19:09And tonight, we start things off with Showtime's best knockout artists.
01:19:13The knockout is the most dramatic moment in boxing.
01:19:25The fighters who supply this drama vary from one-punch sluggers
01:19:29to technicians who systematically break down their opponents.
01:19:34The following six practitioners are some of the best in the business
01:19:38and the nominees for Showtime's best knockout artist.
01:19:42Mike Tyson, always revered for his absolute power.
01:19:48His punches were portraits of ferocity,
01:19:51every one designed to end the fight and thrill the fans.
01:19:55Solid took one shot, he may not get up.
01:19:58Both are stumbling around.
01:20:00Whether with the left hook or right hand.
01:20:03Oh, there's no way, he's getting up.
01:20:05Few were able to withstand the force behind a Mike Tyson punch.
01:20:12Jeff Lacey.
01:20:13His aggressive style and commitment to his punches
01:20:16immediately drew comparisons to a young Tyson.
01:20:19With his trademark showstopper,
01:20:21this super middleweight became known as left hook.
01:20:24Despite this moniker,
01:20:26his solid right hand was as lethal.
01:20:29And it's all over.
01:20:30With his brutal offense and physical attributes,
01:20:33Lacey earned the world title in only his 18th pro fight,
01:20:37Evander Holyfield.
01:20:39He ushered in the wave of the bodybuilding fighter.
01:20:43During his reign as cruiserweight,
01:20:45he used his coaching power to become the division's first undisputed champion.
01:20:50As a heavyweight, the KOs kept coming,
01:20:54including the famous punch against Buster Douglas.
01:20:57What a shot by Evander Holyfield!
01:20:59With that knockout,
01:21:00Holyfield became the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world.
01:21:05Terry Norris.
01:21:07The key to his knockouts was a combination of speed and power,
01:21:11gifted with the ability to box.
01:21:13The offensive-minded Norris preferred to brawl.
01:21:16His punch now blocked later at
01:21:22champion and a dominant force in a very tough junior middleweight division,
01:21:29Ricardo Lopez.
01:21:31The biggest punchers aren't always the big guys,
01:21:35and this 105-pound Mexican slugger emphatically proved that.
01:21:41With an unbeaten record of 51 wins with 38 knockouts,
01:21:45Lopez would stalk his opponents,
01:21:47landing flush, accurate punches.
01:21:50The strawweight division had seen such power,
01:21:53or witnessed the successfully executed knockouts.
01:21:56A Salino Freitas.
01:21:59A small fighter who excited fans by knocking out his first 29 opponents.
01:22:05The former unifugged every 30-pound champ would slug it out to end a fight.
01:22:10Yet he possessed a tremendous one-punch bond.
01:22:17Six fighters.
01:22:18Different in style, size, and technique.
01:22:21Yet all able to end a fight early.
01:22:24Which will you choose as Showtime's best knockout artist?
01:22:28So there you have it.
01:22:30It's a very impressive list of contenders, Al.
01:22:33It really is.
01:22:33And you know what's interesting to me?
01:22:35Obviously, all those men have a lot of knockouts.
01:22:37That's why they're on that list.
01:22:38But each got their knockouts in a different way.
01:22:41Some from cumulative punches and some from one big shot.
01:22:44So it gives the fans an interesting group to vote for.
01:22:46All right, so log on to show.com to vote for your favorite Showtime knockout artist.
01:22:51In our next telecast, we'll announce the winner and introduce another best-of category.
01:22:56Well, Fireworks and Cleveland, is a rematch appropriate in your estimation?
01:23:00I think it is for a couple of reasons.
01:23:01Number one, it's appropriate to give Lehman Booster a chance to win the title back.
01:23:05Traditionally, when champions are upset, a rematch is given.
01:23:08Number two, when have we seen a better heavyweight fight in the last couple of years?
01:23:12Why not do it again?
01:23:13And these men have proven, not only can they make an exciting fight, but I want to make an important point.
01:23:18They fought skillfully in there tonight.
01:23:20We like seeing that in the heavyweight.
01:23:21It really leaves you with a good taste after an exciting fight like this.
01:23:25As we wind things down from Cleveland, Ohio, let's take a look one last time at tonight's result.
01:23:31Sergei Lachovic.
01:23:33Yes, Sergei Lachovic will always remember April Fool's Day, 2006.
01:23:38Will the public remember Sergei Lachovic?
01:23:40Sergei Lachovic, are they big enough to carry the weight of boxing's fabled heavyweight division?
01:23:44He's the new WBO heavyweight champ by upsetting Lehman Brewster.
01:23:49It's a rematch in the offing.
01:23:51Stay tuned.
01:23:52Before we say goodnight, here's what's on the boxing horizon here on Showtime.
01:23:55Showbox, the new generation featuring boxing's best up-and-coming fighters,

01:24:15In the second fight, Castillo evened the score with a huge knockout.
01:24:18Now, it's time for the rubber match.
01:24:22That'll do it from the Wallstein Center as we close out another edition of Showtime Championship Boxing, America's Fight Night.
01:24:34Don't forget to stay tuned for Soul Plane, coming up next.
