00:00It's showtime!
00:15One is considered the best super middleweight in the world, and he wants to keep it that way.
00:20The other had his moment of glory, and he wants it back.
00:24From the industrial city of Sheffield, England, comes one of boxing's more familiar yet tantalizing tales.
00:31Two long-time friends, now hostile adversaries.
00:35Tonight, WBO champion Joe Calzaghe and ex-champ Richie Woodall take their local rivalry to the world stage.
00:43Next on Showtime Championship Boxing.
01:24Showtime's two-city European tour concludes tonight here in the blue-collar city of Sheffield, England.
01:38Located 160 miles northwest of London in north-central England, Sheffield is a major steel manufacturing center and coal mining region
01:46that has also contributed mightily to the world of entertainment, producing the likes of singing legend Joe Cocker
01:52and actor Michael Palin of Monty Python fame, among others.
01:56There's also the locale for the full Monty.
01:58Tonight, the Sheffield Arena plays host to the world of boxing with a doubleheader on tap.
02:04In our main event, it's the Battle of Britain, as local favorites Joe Calzaghe and Richie Woodall put their long-time friendship aside
02:15to square off with the WBO's super middleweight crown.
02:18And in our co-feature, you'll see WBO junior, lightweight champ, Asilino Freitas, try to keep his perfect knockout record intact
02:26in an over-the-weight non-title fight against Daniel Alisea.
02:30Welcome to the Sheffield Arena, one of several sports venues in a sportsman town.
02:37Soccer took center stage early this afternoon as Sheffield United and Sheffield Wednesday play to a 1-1 tie,
02:43Sheffield's version of the Subway Series.
02:45Tonight, boxing is the attraction, 6,000 to 8,000 expected.
02:49The fight fans here have followed the careers of such native sons as Prince Dasim Hamed and Harold Graham.
02:55This evening, they're geared up for some more hometown flavor.
03:00Hello again, everybody.
03:02Steve Albert ringside from England, where there has been no shortage of British royalty at the 168-pound weight limit over the past decade.
03:10In fact, the Brits have had more champions in only the 118-pound division.
03:17Their impressive presence in a division that debuted only in 1984 began with the flamboyant Chris Eubank.
03:23He held the WBO version through 15 successful defenses spanning three and a half years.
03:28The Dark Destroyer, Nigel Benn, wore the WBC crown through 10 successful defenses.
03:34Robin Reed reclaimed the WBC title for Britain in late 96, holding it for 14 months.
03:39Tonight, defending champ Joe Calzaghe makes his seventh defense of the belt, which he won just over three years ago.
03:46His challenger this evening, Richie Woodall, held the WBC version since early 98,
03:50but the title unification match with Joe Calzaghe evaporated when Woodall lost to Marcus Byer.
03:56Glenn Catley borrowed the WBC belt for less than 120 days.
04:00And no matter what happens here tonight, there will still be at least one British champion at 168.
04:06And with that, let me bring on my ringside partner, former world champion Bobby Chez.
04:13And Bobby, an intriguing situation here.
04:14Calzaghe and Woodall are both friends outside the ring.
04:17Is this something that could pose problems, or is it something that a fighter can just sort of turn on and off once the bell sounds?
04:24Steve, trust me, friends outside the ring may be, and certainly they can be.
04:28But once we set foot inside that ring, there are no friends.
04:30For the three minutes in between those rest bells, what they do to each other will not constitute as a friendly act.
04:36Titles, championships, money, and sports history hangs in the balance.
04:39There won't be anything friendly going on in this ring tonight.
04:41All right, we shall see what happens a little bit later in our main event.
04:45Let's take a look backstage into the dressing room of the challenger.
04:48And that, of course, is 32-year-old Richie Woodall from Telford, England, 26-2 with 16 knockouts.
04:54He's extremely psyched for this matchup that has been in the works for years, and now an opportunity to reclaim his world champion status.
05:01Bobby, what are this guy's major assets in the ring?
05:04Well, Steve, he's told a good rangy jab when he uses it, and he has not a bad right hand when he throws it.
05:08But he's very, very hard to hit.
05:09He's elusive.
05:10He's a good boxer from the outside.
05:12But sometimes that lends to a slow fight and an awkward fight.
05:15But from the outside, he is very effective.
05:17Highly motivated, feeling that this is his last shot at the title.
05:21And of the champion, making his arrival, 28-year-old Joe Calzaghe, 29-0, 24 KOs.
05:29Calzaghe, a southpaw from Newbridge, South Wales, won the vacant title in stirring fashion from an aging Chris Eubank in late 97.
05:37Bobby, where would you rate him among the current 168-pound champions?
05:41Well, right now, Steve, all the super middleweight champions are outside the U.S.
05:44Gerard Otkey from Europe, and now the newly crowned Hilton from Canada.
05:48And pretty much, it's a proving ground for all these champions.
05:50None have been there long enough to really tell what they have.
05:53So far, who has shown the most is this man right here, Joe Calzaghe.
05:57I think right now he ranks as the man to beat at 168.
06:00Tremendous incentive.
06:01A win tonight sets up the possibility of a big money fight with light heavyweight champion Roy Jones Jr.
06:06Once again, we'd like to invite you Showtime subscribers with internet access to log on to show.com,

06:33Once again, the web address is s-h-o-dot-com.
06:38Let's get to it.
06:39We close in on our first bout as undefeated.
06:41Asselino Freitas puts his perfect knockout record on the line against Daniel Alisea.
06:45Freitas 27-0 with 27 KOs.
06:50And Bobby Asselino Freitas has been compared to a young Roberto Durant.
06:54Very, very exciting fighter.
06:57Exceptional power and speed.
06:58How would you rate his overall skills in the ring?
07:01Well, you know, to be compared to a young Roberto Durant is quite a statement,
07:04and that would lead to even greater expectations.
07:06I think Roberto Durant, who has also demonstrated great power early in his career,
07:09might have demonstrated just a little more boxing ability defensively as well as offensively.
07:13But 27-0 with 27 knockouts, this man makes a statement he's a force to be reckoned with.
07:26...
07:47Asilino Freitas has knocked out every opponent he has ever faced.
07:59He's the only current champion with a perfect knockout record.
08:04And Bobby, how would you assess his level or quality of opposition?
08:07Well, for starters, Steve, he's a world champion, so he knocked out the world champion,
08:10the former world champion as well.
08:12He's knocked out a couple of top ten contenders.
08:14But the top ten contenders as well as that champion, Steve, were not really proven commodities.
08:18What he needs to do is step up against the Casamayor or one of the other champions
08:22or someone who's been there and has paid their dues and established himself.
08:25Then we'll see what he's got.
08:272001, he gets it done.
08:29All right, Bobby, it's Asilino Freitas versus Daniel Alisea.
08:32The ring walks straight ahead.
08:35Ladies and gentlemen, we are heading for a 12-round very special attraction coming away.
08:41Prepare to welcome the boxers as they make their way to the ring.
08:45First, we introduce the tough competitor from Puerto Rico.
08:49Introducing Daniel Alisea.
08:56Daniel Alisea, off a controversial ten-round decision loss to LeVon Murphy,
09:08took this fight on two weeks' notice.
09:09Lewis Wood was signed to fight but pulled out late with an injury.
09:15It was a scramble to get Alisea, and whether it's for a belt or not,
09:18this was the best fight that could be made based on others refusing to fight Freitas
09:22or seeking too much money or just unavailable or not acceptable.
09:28Alisea, to his credit, stepped up.
09:30In 96, he was the first to drop Prince Nassim Hamed from right here in Sheffield.
09:35Alisea's lone title shot, it came in round one, but Alisea was then stopped in the second.
09:41Bobby, what kind of challenge does Alisea pose to an explosive puncher like Freitas?
09:45We know, Steve, the only common fighter they've had between the two, they both knocked out.
09:48Alisea knocked him out at nine, Freitas in eight, so he's shown some power,
09:52shown he can get the job done even late.
09:54But the two times he stepped up most notably against Prince Nassim Hamed,
09:57even though he dropped Nassim, he got knocked out in just two rounds.
10:00Freitas has Nassim-type power.
10:01I don't expect a big threat, although my trainer, Tommy Parks, is working his corner,
10:05and it could be a serious improvement.
10:07As we segue to the keys to victory.
10:10Well, for Alisea and Freitas, it's simple.
10:14Alisea has to box smart from the outside.
10:17He has to make Freitas miss, and also he has to counterpunch effectively.
10:21If he's going to win this, he has no choice but to stay there.
10:24So, Daniel Alisea makes his home these days in Newark, New Jersey,
10:34originally from San Terce, Puerto Rico.
10:36Well, ladies and gentlemen, making his way to the ring,
10:39here is the knockout artist from Brazil,
10:43introducing Asselino Freitas.
10:46Suddenly, we feel like we're not in Sheffield, but at Club Med.
11:00A theatrical entrance by Asselino Freitas from Brazil,
11:09where he is highly regarded, once through 50,000.
11:15He won the WBO junior lightweight title with a first-round knockout
11:19of Anatoly Alexandrov, who was left unconscious for five minutes
11:23before being revived.
11:25Five successful defenses, including a stirring eighth-round TKO
11:28over England's Barry Jones, in which Freitas scored six knockdowns.
11:33Jones had never been knocked down prior to that fight.
11:38He comes off a ninth-round stoppage of an awkward, rugged,
11:41and smart Carlos Rios in September.
11:44Bobby, an aggressive, very offensive-minded power puncher,
11:47one of the top young fighters to come out of South America.
11:50Does he have the potential, though, to become a legit superstar?
11:53Well, Steve, all superstars get to be superstars,
11:56not only by winning, and winning convincingly, which he has,
11:5827 wins, 27 knockouts, but by beating other stars and superstars.
12:03He hasn't really faced any of the stars or superstars in his division.
12:06What he needs to do, that would be the third leg of what he needs to do.
12:08He's winning. He's winning impressively.
12:10Now he's got to beat some real people.
12:12And endearing himself to the fans
12:14by heading some soccer balls into the crowd.
12:17Keys to victory, Bobby.
12:19Freitas, no stranger to power.
12:21What he wants to do here is force the pace of the fight
12:23and work Alisaia's body, because he has that great power,
12:26and land those body shots.
12:27They are telling.
12:27We've seen Alisaia not make it against the power of Nazeem.
12:31The power of Freitas is probably every bit as good.
12:33Tale of the tape for this over-the-weight affair.
12:37Freitas at 25.
12:39Three years younger than Alisaia.
12:41The slight 1.5-inch height advantage for Alisaia.
12:44Three-inch reach advantage for Freitas.
12:45At yesterday's weigh-in, Freitas 133.
12:47Alisaia, 130 and a half.
12:49Their weights tonight.
12:50Freitas, 143.
12:52Alisaia, 137 and a half.
12:54Key rules for this 12-round non-title fight.
12:57The referee will score the fight.
12:58No judges here in England for a non-title affair.
13:01No standing eight-count, no three-knockdown rule.
13:03A fighter cannot be saved by the bell except in the last round.
13:06There's no accidental foul rule.
13:08If a fighter can't continue, he loses.
13:11So here at the Sheffield Arena,
13:13getting ready for Asilino Freitas versus Daniel Alisaia.
13:16The formal introductions from our ring announcer.
13:18Let's go to the always dapper, Jimmy Lennon Jr.
13:26Ladies and gentlemen, good evening and welcome to the Sheffield Arena
13:30here in Sheffield, England,
13:32as we present a special attraction coming away
13:35brought to you by Frank Warren Sports Network
13:37and Arthur Palullo's Banner Promotions
13:40in association with Showtime Championship Boxing
13:44as sponsored by Red Square.
13:47This bout coming away is sanctioned by the British Boxing Board of Control.
13:51The steward in charge is Lord Brooks of Tremorpha.
13:54Introducing to you the third man of the ring,
13:56the referee in charge,
13:58and the sole judge of this contest
14:00from Leeds, England, Mickey Vann.
14:04All right, fans, here we go.
14:06Twelve rounds of boxing for a junior lightweight,
14:09also known as super featherweight,
14:12special attraction.
14:14Introducing to you first on my left,
14:16fighting out of the red corner,
14:18entering the ring wearing black trunks with gold trim,
14:21he hails from Santurce, Canteras, Puerto Rico
14:26by way of New York City.
14:28He weighed in at nine stone, four and a half pounds,
14:31or 130 and one half U.S. pounds,
14:34with a record of 24 wins, three losses and one draw.
14:38He has 19 wins coming by way of knockout.
14:42Introducing Daniel Alicena.
14:46And his opponent across the ring on my right,
14:54fighting out of the blue corner,
14:56this 12-round non-title attraction,
14:58wearing white trunks,
14:59hailing from Salvador, Brazil.
15:02He weighed in at nine stone, seven pounds,
15:05or 133 U.S. pounds.
15:08As boxing's only world champion
15:11with a perfect knockout record,
15:13his ring campaign includes 27 wins,
15:17no losses, all 27 wins coming by way of knockout.
15:21Introducing the explosive, undefeated,
15:25WBO junior lightweight champion of the world,
15:28introducing Acelino Popo Freitas.
15:38Once again, Mickey Van is our referee in charge.
15:41Now to give instructions.
15:4212 rounds of boxing schedule.
15:47You both had your instructions in the dressing room.
15:51Shake hands.
15:52Goodbye to your corners.
15:53Good luck.
15:53Shake hands.
15:54Well done.
15:55Originally, this was a championship fight,
15:57but under the new Ali bill,
15:59since Alicena had fallen out of title contention,
16:01losing his last fight,
16:02dropping for the ratings,
16:03it was changed to a non-title fight.
16:06Confident but not cocky is.
16:07Acelino Freitas says it's not important to maintain that perfect knockout record
16:13just to keep winning.
16:14A no-frills fighter.
16:15He is all about power.
16:17Big right and a beautiful left hook.
16:19Alicena, upright, stylish boxer with a good right,
16:22long and rangy, as you can see.
16:24Always coming forward, very busy, throws a lot,
16:28mixes his punches up very well.
16:30His chin, though, and resolve should be tested in a big way this evening.
16:35He will need to move and jab to avoid Freitas' power.
16:39The question, can he out-hustle and out-work the champion?
16:42Most folks here feel he cannot.
16:47Here we go.
16:48And Alicena comes out bumming with a left hook and misses wildly.
16:51What he looked to do right there, Steve,
16:52was come out and get a little respect,
16:54get his pound of flesh early.
16:58Freitas, first and foremost,
16:59told us he's looking to jump on Alicena and end it early.
17:03He made a big point of wanting to show his power.
17:07Freitas was extended into the ninth,
17:08his last fight against a tough, durable warrior,
17:11Carlos Rios.
17:13He seemed to be getting fatigue,
17:15although he claimed stamina was not an issue
17:17and that he felt strong.
17:19Alicena is trying to establish the jab.
17:21You can see him working, stuffing it,
17:22but he's not running,
17:24and he's not moving that much from the outside.
17:25He believes he can maybe bang for Freitas.
17:28Freitas and the white trunks did emphasize
17:30his desire to end this fight fast,
17:33but he said he's prepared to go all to him.
17:36Well, he may not have to.
17:38It was a beautiful right hand.
17:39He slipped the jab by Alicena
17:40and took the right hand over the top.
17:43Picture perfect.
17:44And he is under wobbly conditions.
17:47It's over!
17:48It's over here in the first round.
17:50Nicky Vann has stopped the fight.
17:52Alicena is very upset.
17:54He really was wobbly,
17:57but he disputes this judgment call by the referee,
18:02and now the folks in Alicena's team
18:06also arguing with the referee.
18:09Part of the problem, Steve.
18:10When he got up, he wobbled a little bit,
18:11and what he did was he leaned back into the ropes
18:13as if to allow the ropes to hold him up.
18:15Referee sees that he's going to stop.
18:17Alfredis came in saying he wanted to make a statement.
18:20You get the feeling he has.
18:24But Alicena's people and Alicena himself
18:27very, very distraught
18:28over what has happened.
18:31And Rosalino Freitas
18:32knocks out Daniel Alicena
18:36in the first round,
18:38early in the first round.
18:39The unofficial time 101
18:42will call it a TKO,
18:44but a heavy right hand,
18:46and Alicena had his night ended early.
18:49There's the belt around the waist
18:51of Asalino Freitas,
18:53who made quick work of Daniel Alicena,
18:56and he is still walking around
18:58in stunned disbelief.
19:01Very frustrated indeed.
19:04He took this fight on very short notice,
19:07just two weeks,
19:08and here's something you don't see every day, Bobby.
19:11The champion is on a cell phone.
19:13You think he's talking to his homeland, Brazil?
19:16No, he's talking to somebody important to him.
19:18I'm sure his family telling him everything's okay.
19:20I'm okay.
19:21I'm still a champion.
19:22That didn't go long.
19:27So Asalino Freitas in explosive fashion,
19:30living up to his billing and expectations,
19:34remains undefeated,
19:36maintains his perfect knockout record.
19:37Now 28-0 with 28 knockouts,
19:40but it was not a title defense.
19:43And Freitas telling us title unification
19:45means more to him than fighting,
19:47say, Prince Nassim Hamed,
19:49who's been reportedly offered
19:51five to six billion dollars
19:53by that man on the tux,
19:55Frank Warren,
19:56to fight Asalino Freitas,
19:58the promoter.
19:59Freitas said recently he wanted WBC champ Floyd Mayweather first,
20:05but Mayweather is scheduled to fight Diego Corrales,
20:08the former champ.
20:09How about Freitas versus Casamayor,
20:11then the winner of that fight
20:12to beat the winner of Corrales, Mayweather.
20:13That would be a terrific round, Robin.
20:15And I think right now,
20:16Diego Corrales, for my money,
20:17is still the best of the bunch.
20:19But he's stepping up
20:20and they're putting the money
20:21where the mouth is.
20:22He's fighting Mayweather.
20:23That's going to be a great fight with Corrales.
20:24Weight has been a constant battle, though,
20:26for Asalino Freitas.
20:27He started out as a lightweight,
20:29came down to junior lightweight at 130.
20:31As mentioned earlier,
20:33he did gain 10 pounds
20:35from yesterday's weigh-in
20:37up until tonight.
20:40Technically, right now,
20:41he's a small welterweight,
20:42over 140.
20:42He's over a super lightweight
20:43or junior welterweight.
20:44Right.
20:45All right, we're just about set
20:46for the official word
20:47from our ring announcer,
20:48Jimmy Lennon, Jr.
20:51Ladies and gentlemen,
20:53we have the time of
20:54one minute, one second.
20:56In round number one,
20:58our referee in charge,
20:59Mickey Vance,
20:59stops the contest.
21:01The winner now,
21:02improving his record
21:03to 28-0 with 28 knockouts,
21:06the WBO junior lightweight
21:07world champion,
21:09Asalino Popo Freitas.
21:16Asalino Freitas
21:18from Brazil,
21:18victorious for the 28th time
21:21with no defeats,
21:2228 knockouts.
21:24Raises his arms in victory
21:26to this crowd here
21:28in Sheffield, England.
21:29A vicious knockout
21:35over Daniel Alisea.
21:36All right, you're going to watch.
21:37Now, Alisea comes forward.
21:38He puts a little bit
21:39of a lazy jab out here.
21:41Freitas takes his head,
21:42ducks to the side,
21:43and fires a right hand
21:44right over the top,
21:45and it is lights out.
21:48Here comes a little lazy jab,
21:50ducks with the right hand,
21:51and look at the power.
21:52He catapulted that right hand
21:54into Alisea's side of Alisea's
21:55head and jaw,
21:57and Alisea takes off
21:58in the other direction
21:58very quickly.
22:01Here he misses the hook.
22:02Here comes the lazy jab.
22:03Bang!
22:05Alisea
22:05goes down hard.
22:08Here's a last look at it.
22:09You can see the power,
22:13and I don't think Alisea ever saw it.
22:16The champion ducked that jab
22:17beautifully,
22:18slipped it,
22:19and coincidentally and ironically,
22:21that is a move that Tommy Parks
22:22used to teach me
22:22all the time.
22:23Slip the jab to the right,
22:24come over the top
22:25with the right hand,
22:26and it was used on his fighter.
22:27So Asselino Freitas
22:34in emphatic fashion,
22:37as Bobby put it,
22:40so aptly turning out the lights
22:42on Daniel Alisea
22:43in the very first round,
22:45about a minute in.
22:48Showtime championship boxing
22:50kicks off the new year
22:51on January the 6th
22:52as featherweight silver medalist
22:54Ricardo Rocky Juarez
22:56and super middleweight
22:57Jeff Lacey,
22:57as well as unbeaten 17-year-old
23:00super lightweight rising star
23:01Juan Diaz.
23:03That's Saturday,
23:03January 13th,
23:04also at 10 p.m. Eastern
23:06and Pacific.
23:09Now coming up next
23:11from right here
23:12in Sheffield, England,
23:12our main event,
23:13it's the WBO
23:14Super Middleweight Championship.
23:16Local Products,
23:17Joe Calzaghi and Richie Woodall
23:18in one of England's
23:20most anticipated showdowns
23:21in years.
23:22Each receives enormous support
23:23and encouragement
23:24here in Great Britain tonight.
23:25They meet
23:26each other.
23:29Joe Calzaghi
23:30and Richie Woodall.
23:32They are brought together tonight
23:33by a lifetime
23:34of shared experiences.
23:35Two hugely popular
23:36area fighters
23:37who highly respect
23:38and admire each other
23:39must forget that they are friends
23:41when the bell goes.
23:41Too much money at stake.
23:43The cruel irony,
23:44it's a fight
23:44neither can afford to lose.
23:46A win could be Calzaghi's ticket
23:48to world recognition
23:49as Roy Jones looms in the future.
23:51The stakes are higher
23:52for the underdog Woodall.
23:53A loss could mean the end
23:55of his career.
23:57Calzaghi-Woodall,
23:58a test of friendship
23:58as well as courage
24:00and skill.
24:00Well, that first fight
24:03was so short.
24:04We're going to take
24:05another look, Bobby Chez.
24:07There was not a lot
24:08to be said, Steve.
24:10It was short and sweet
24:12and very much in favor
24:14of the man
24:15in the white trunks,
24:16Ocelino Freitas.
24:18You know, I thought
24:19Alisea should actually
24:20box him a little more,
24:21work him from the outside,
24:22try and stuff the jab
24:22like he was doing,
24:24keep him off with the jab,
24:25but not come into him
24:26as much as he did
24:26and right off the bat
24:27he came in swinging
24:28a big left hook,
24:29trying to get his pound of flesh,
24:30which I do understand
24:31that sometimes there are
24:32better ways of getting it
24:33than the way he did.
24:34Perhaps he figured
24:36in his mind
24:36it was just about
24:37the only way
24:38to pull off an upset,
24:41to try to catch
24:42the champion by surprise.
24:44This is a non-title affair.
24:46It was scheduled for 12,
24:49but it didn't go very long
24:51as you will soon see.
24:55Keep an eye
24:55on the explosive right hand
24:57of the Brazilian and white,
24:59Ocelino Freitas,
25:00is coming right up.
25:03One, two, three, four.
25:08Now watch when he gets up, Steve.
25:09See, he's a little wobbly,
25:11a little trippy,
25:12and he leans into the rope
25:13as if the ropes
25:13were to hold him up.
25:15That's not good for him.
25:16He's not free by perception.
25:17Do you think that Mickey Vann
25:18stopped it prematurely?
25:20I think it was a little quick.
25:21I think it was a matter
25:21of another 30 seconds
25:22to a minute,
25:23but I think it was
25:24a little quick.
25:25I think he should have said,
25:26step back,
25:26or he should have stepped back
25:27and said, walk to me.
25:29And if he walked
25:29with his hands up and okay,
25:30because he was okay
25:31to throw a fit afterwards,
25:33so I think he should have
25:33been able to get
25:34a couple more minutes in there.
25:36Bobby, interestingly,
25:37Daniel Alessia,
25:38a late replacement
25:39for a fighter named
25:41Lewis Wood
25:42on two weeks' notice.
25:43Mickey Vann,
25:44a last-minute replacement
25:45for referee Paul Thomas.
25:47So we wonder,
25:48had a different individual
25:50been the third man
25:51of the ring,
25:52how he might have seen things.
25:53I really don't think
25:54it was a big difference
25:56in the way the fight
25:57would have turned out.
25:58I don't think that LSA
25:59would have lasted the round.
26:00He was still a little glassy-eyed.
26:01You could see it.
26:02He got his feet under him.
26:03He seemed relatively okay,
26:05but the power of the Freitas
26:06comes with the determination,
26:07the aggressiveness,
26:08the number of punches he throws.
26:09I don't think he gets to last
26:10another minute and a half.
26:11And also,
26:12a lot of people may have thought
26:13it was just academic
26:15and just a matter of time
26:17for the undefeated
26:18Mr. Perfect,
26:19Ocelino Freitas.
26:22Before we get to our main event,
26:24we're joined by
26:24the victorious Ocelino Freitas
26:26of Brazil who just picked up
26:27his 11th first-round knockout
26:29with the help of our translator,
26:31Marcus Maldonado.
26:33And Marcus,
26:33if you can ask Ocelino
26:34what took him so long?
26:36Por qué durases tanto para noquear?
26:40Porque yo le corris un poco,
26:43más.
26:44El nocaut es consecuencia de pelea.
26:47Cuando Amor pega,
26:48es nocaut.
26:49I came out looking for a knockout.
26:51The knockout was just
26:52a consequent of this fight.
26:53He has to learn to
26:55extend the fight
26:56about two, three, four rounds
26:57so we could talk about him
26:59and say good things about him.
27:01Tienes que aprender
27:02a que la pelea dure
27:03dos, tres, cuatro rounds
27:04para que la gente
27:05hable bien de ti.
27:06No, yo, si, si yo espero
27:07tres, cuatro rounds
27:09puede acontecer conmigo.
27:10No golpes de sorpresa.
27:12Yo mostré pa todo
27:12que yo pelea
27:13o sete rounds,
27:14oito rounds,
27:15non-round.
27:15Entonces, no tenes.
27:17I feel if the fight
27:18were to go three or four rounds,
27:19you know, I'm also in danger.
27:20This is why I like to take
27:21out my opponent early.
27:23Was Asselino looking
27:24to make a big statement
27:25here tonight
27:26in light of the fact
27:27that he was extended
27:28into the ninth round
27:29by a relative unknown
27:30but a rugged fighter
27:31in his last fight?
27:32Estabas buscando
27:33hacer un gran espectáculo aquÃ.
27:35SÃ, siempre.
27:37Yo siempre...
27:38Yo luto primero
27:39para mi una persona,
27:40para mi una persona.
27:42Después, el público
27:43que gusta de boxe
27:44y gusta de ver
27:47el nocaute
27:47en boxeo,
27:49es la misma cosa
27:49de un gol en el fútbol.
27:51So, at first,
27:52I like to take care
27:52of my opponent
27:53and it just so happens
27:54that the fans like it
27:55and everyone appreciates
27:56how I'm able
27:57to take out my opponents.
27:58Now, he made
27:58the long trip
27:59all the way here
28:00to England
28:01with the intent
28:02to defend
28:02his world title
28:04but he found out
28:05like we all did
28:06just yesterday
28:06that it was
28:07a non-title fight.
28:09I mean,
28:09we were disappointed.
28:10How did he feel about that?
28:11Ya haces hasta Inglaterra
28:12para defender el campeonato.
28:14¿Cómo te sentiste
28:15cuando no...
28:16cuando supiste
28:17esta pelea
28:17no era de campeonato?
28:20Yo siempre estoy entrenado
28:21para pelear.
28:23Esto es consecuencia
28:24de peleado.
28:25Infelizmente,
28:27en pelea,
28:28nosotros
28:28estaremos esperando todo.
28:32He said,
28:32I just want to fight
28:33whether I defend
28:33my title or not.
28:34I like fighting.
28:35I love to fight
28:36and it was sad
28:37that I didn't get
28:38to defend my title
28:38but...
28:39Para mi una persona
28:40fue como si fuese
28:41una pelea de tÃtulo mundial
28:43porque todas
28:43es serio, fuerte.
28:45He said,
28:46but every fight
28:46for me
28:47is extremely serious.
28:48Well,
28:49Diego Corrales
28:49is scheduled
28:50to fight
28:50Floyd Mayweather.
28:52Does that mean
28:53that he would like
28:54to step up
28:55and fight somebody
28:55like Joel Casamayor
28:57that is after
28:57if Casamayor
28:59gets by
28:59Roberto Garcia?
29:01Diego Corrales
29:02va a pelear
29:03va a pelear
29:04con Mayweather.
29:06Eso quiere decir
29:06que tú quieres
29:07estás buscando
29:07a Joel Casamayor
29:08o otro nombre
29:09grande
29:09en tu peso.
29:10Mira,
29:11yo estoy treinando
29:12para cualquier
29:13un peleador
29:14que venga
29:14pelear conmigo.
29:16Yo dependo
29:17de...
29:18fascina de ideas,
29:20es Maldonado
29:21y Frank Rora
29:21para cualquier uno
29:22que le quieras
29:24que peleo,
29:24yo peleo
29:25y liquido
29:25todos.
29:26He said,
29:27whoever Ricardo Maldonado
29:28puts in front of me,
29:29I'll be more than happy
29:30to liquidate them.
29:32Okay, Marcus,
29:32if I can just borrow
29:33that microphone
29:34for a second
29:34so I can chat
29:35with the promoter
29:36Frank Warren
29:36about the future
29:37of Asselino Freitas
29:38and Frank,
29:39nice of you
29:40to join us as well.
29:41We talked about
29:42the possibility
29:42of fighting
29:42Casamayor down the road.
29:44How about
29:44a guy from right here
29:46in Sheffield, England,
29:46Prince Nassim Hamed?
29:48Is that a likelihood?
29:49Well, he left town
29:50when Asselino came here.
29:51As you know,
29:51we offered
29:51Nassim
29:53six million dollars
29:54to fight
29:54Mr. Freitas,
29:56but he refused
29:57to fight.
29:57They said
29:58they weren't interested.
29:59Why do you think?
30:00Because Asselino
30:01is too big for him,
30:02too strong,
30:03or why?
30:03Well, Nassim
30:04normally fights
30:04guys who are
30:05super bantamweight.
30:06His next fight
30:06he's fighting Barrera
30:07and Barrera's
30:08a super bantamweight.
30:09All we're asking
30:09him to do
30:10is to come up
30:10to super featherweight
30:11and fight a super featherweight.
30:13You know,
30:13good fighters,
30:14great fighters do that.
30:15Recently,
30:16Shane Mosley
30:16went up a weight
30:17to fight Oscar De La Hoya.
30:18Nassim
30:18says he wants
30:18to be a legend
30:19and come and fight
30:20the guy
30:20with the only perfect record
30:21in the world
30:21at the moment
30:22who is 28-0.
30:24Obviously,
30:24it's time for Mr. Freitas
30:25to really step up.
30:27Would you like
30:27to see him
30:28obviously unify
30:30the title?
30:30We talked about
30:31Corrales and Mayweather
30:32in an upcoming
30:33scheduled fight,
30:34but what about
30:35Casamayor
30:35if Casamayor
30:36beats Garcia?
30:37I was speaking
30:38with Ricardo Maldonado
30:39today,
30:39the manager,
30:40and we were discussing
30:41that fight
30:41and he said to me
30:42make the fight.
30:43He said,
30:43I want the fight
30:44now,
30:44make the fight
30:44and that's what
30:45we want to do.
30:46That's the fight
30:46I think the fans
30:47want to see.
30:48It's two extremely
30:49talented and good fighters
30:50and that's what
30:51the fans want.
30:52And that's what
30:52we want to deliver.
30:53All right, Frank.
30:54Thank you very much.
30:55And Asselino,
30:56thank you very much
30:56and best of luck
30:57to you in the future.
30:58Marcus,
30:58thanks for helping us out.
31:00All right,
31:00that's it.
31:01Asselino Freitas
31:01in explosive fashion
31:02able to knock out
31:04Daniel Alisea
31:05101 of the first round.
31:07Well,
31:08we are one down,
31:09one to go.
31:10Tonight,
31:10we're coming to you
31:10from the steel city
31:11of Sheffield, England,
31:12the site for the hit movie
31:13The Full Body.
31:14In fact,
31:14this card has been
31:15dubbed locally
31:16as The Full Body 2.
31:17Perhaps it is only fitting
31:19since tonight's event
31:20could expose a fighter
31:21more than any
31:23striptease.
31:26As tonight,
31:27we come to you
31:28from the steel city
31:29of Sheffield, England.
