00:03Every RPG has hundreds of characters in it.
00:06But the difference between RPG and any other video game
00:09is that characters can dress and undress in RPG.
00:13And it's a big problem for developers how to solve it.
00:15So let's have a look how we solved it.
00:17We will definitely need hundreds, maybe thousands of characters in the game.
00:21So we needed to develop our own tools to make their development as easy as possible.
00:27We built our tool on top of CryEngine.
00:30We would like to share it with the modding community later.
00:34And I would say it's an ultimate character customization tool ever developed.
00:40Let's start with character bodies.
00:42We can change almost every aspect of their appearance.
00:46We can select their size, body mass, skin, color, hair, facial hair, of course face.
00:54And also paleness or tone of their skin.
00:59Of course we can display different injuries on the bodies as well.
01:03So there's really no limit of the appearance of any character in the game.
01:07The system we are most proud of is our clothing system.
01:10We have 16 equipable slots on every single character in the game.
01:15And what is most important and most special about it is that as in the real world you can layer
01:23clothing in layers on each character.
01:26So for example if you are an armored knight you can have a gambeson on your torso.
01:31Then chainmail over the gambeson.
01:34Then plate armor over the chainmail.
01:37And on top of that you can have some expensive codes to show your social status to people.
01:42Every layer has some different purpose.
01:46Every armor is good against different types of weapons.
01:49So if you used only chainmail you will be well protected against swords.
01:53But not as good against arrows for example.
01:58Plate mail is very good against most of the weapons.
02:01But not the hammers and axes and such weapons.
02:05Thanks to the system we can create almost unlimited amount of characters.
02:10You can combine them as you wish.
02:12Every character can combine them.
02:13You can steal from other clothes from dead bodies as well of course.
02:17On top of that every player, every slot can have different color and different size.
02:22As you can see the fat knight here.
02:24And the clothing can get dirty or damaged.
02:30covered in blood during the game.
02:32So you will need to wash your clothes when you are too dirty for example.
02:38No two characters in the game will look alike.
02:39We can create a thousand men army and every soldier will be different.
02:44Most importantly the work will be much easier for us.
02:49We don't need as many artists because since every character is built from little pieces.
02:53We just need to create those pieces and then combine them together.
02:56Which is much easier to develop a lot of characters to the game.
03:00While the bodies are created by combining small parts.
03:03We create each character's head individually.
03:06We are using it for the latest 3D scanner for that.
03:09And then our artist will hand polish every head.
03:13So this was our character customization system.
