00:00Hey everybody, I'm Larry here of Xbox Live's Major Analysis, and I'm here today with Scott Henson from the Xbox
00:04Engineering team to talk about some new features coming to Xbox One. Scott, great to have you.
00:10It's great to be here, Larry.
00:10Now, the Creators Update is scheduled to release for everyone in the spring, and today the first wave of Xbox
00:16Preview members will get a sneak peek.
00:18In the weeks ahead, more and more Xbox Insider Program members will receive the new features. Let's take a look
00:24at what's new. Scott, what is the theme of today's Xbox Insider release?
00:28Now, the Creators Update in general is really about performance, it's about people, it's about competition, and it's about streaming,
00:35right?
00:35So, right now, people are going to be able to play with a lot of those features as a part
00:38of the Insider Program.
00:40So, for example, one of the things that we've done is we've redesigned the guide to get to you the
00:44most common tasks that you perform every single day.
00:47One button press, and all those common tasks are always available to you.
00:50We've also streamlined home so that the things that you're playing, contextually related to that, show up around that game.
00:59And all of our multitasking system is now redesigned around the guide itself.
01:03Scott, there's some big changes here. So, what's going to happen now when I hit the Xbox Guide button on
01:07my controller?
01:07So, no matter what you're doing, whether you're playing a game or watching Netflix or what have you, you'll hit
01:11that button and you'll have a whole world of instantly accessible features.
01:15You'll be able to go to home, you'll be able to get to My Games and Apps, you'll be able
01:18to get to the store.
01:19Of course, you'll be able to get back to the game or the thing that you were running.
01:22Your recently run activities will be instantly accessible to you, and at the bottom will be the pins.
01:27Now, if you're playing background music, right there on that homepage, you'll be able to pause, fast forward, and change
01:32the volume on that as well.
01:33In addition to that multitasking feature, we've got instant access to the achievement tracker, we've got instant access to game
01:39DVR,
01:40and, of course, what everyone's excited about is very quick access to be able to become a broadcaster as well.
01:45Now, Scott, one feature I'm really excited about is you did some work around the game DVR.
01:49So, now with one button, I now have access to what I want to record the last 15 seconds, 30
01:53seconds, one minute, and so forth.
01:54It's all right there on the guide.
01:55That's right, and, of course, you can also start a recording or take a screenshot as well.
01:59Scott, tell us about the work the team has done around broadcasting and streaming.
02:03We've actually done quite a bit to make that super simple, both on the console as well as on Windows
02:0610 PCs.
02:08On the console, we're using that guide, again, as the multitasking center,
02:12where you'll be able to instantly get into Beam Broadcast by selecting the broadcast icon.
02:16Now, this isn't available immediately, but will be available in the weeks to come.
02:20Now, of course, lots of people continue to stream on Twitch.
02:23That will continue to work.
02:24That will continue to be a great experience on the console, and we're excited about that as well.
02:28The team has also done some work around Cortana.
02:30Tell us about that.
02:31Well, we've gotten lots of feedback on Cortana, as you would expect.
02:34Of course, we're continuing to improve the performance and overall reliability, like everything.
02:38But we've also added some pretty cool new features as well, which people will be able to play with in
02:42preview.
02:42For example, you'll be able to set and receive reminders.
02:45So I can set a reminder that says,
02:47remind me to play, Larry, in Overwatch at 8 o'clock tonight.
02:50And wherever Cortana is, I'll get that reminder.
02:53Pretty cool.
02:54That sounds great.
02:54Now, also, your team has done some work down there in settings and applying updates.
02:58Explain that to us.
02:58Yeah, so the first thing that we want to do for folks is make it really clear when you're getting
03:02an update,
03:02where are you exactly in the set of sequences?
03:04So you're going to see a new user interface for that.
03:07Now, that'll happen the second time that you get an update.
03:09Sure.
03:09Because, of course, you know, the first time is when you're getting an update.
03:11We have to update the update.
03:12Right, that's exactly right.
03:13So the second thing that we're going to do to make updates easier is we're going to make it a
03:17lot more obvious
03:18for people to get into a mode where they can update automatically.
03:22Scott, there's also been work around accessibility and making Xbox more approachable for everyone.
03:27That's right.
03:28Not only are we making continued improvements with the narrator and magnifier that people are going to find super useful,
03:34we've also added a brand new feature that I'm very excited about called Co-Pilot.
03:37Now, Co-Pilot allows you to take two controllers and make them one logical controller.
03:41Okay.
03:42So imagine that someone needs to control their gameplay with a hand or maybe their chin or foot,
03:48or they need a little bit of extra help from someone else.
03:51And that feature actually works not just for people that have maybe disabilities,
03:55but also for people that might just need help getting through their games.
03:57So we're pretty cool.
03:58And what's great is that games don't have to do anything.
03:59We handle that on the system.
04:00That's exactly right.
04:01We make that a completely seamless thing for all games.
04:04Thanks, Scott.
04:05Really exciting stuff.
04:06The first batch of Creators Update features is arriving today for select Xbox Insider program members.
04:12If you're an Xbox Insider and don't receive the updates today, hang in there, relax.
04:17It might take a few weeks, but they are coming.
04:19More Xbox Insiders will receive the update in the coming weeks
04:23and will steadily release more Creators Update features for Xbox One
04:26and Windows 10 PCs leading into the spring.
04:29Scott, thanks for your time today.
04:31It's been great.
04:31Thanks.
04:31I'm Larry Herb, Xbox Live's Major Nelson.
04:33Thanks for watching.
