00:52Welcome, welcome, welcome, welcome, welcome, welcome, welcome, welcome, thank you.
00:56Oh, that's what I'm talking about, hey!
01:02Come on!
01:04That's what I'm talking about.
01:05Thank you very much.
01:07Enjoy yourself, everybody.
01:08Enjoy yourself.
01:09Welcome, welcome, welcome to The Tonight Show.
01:12You're here.
01:13You made it.
01:16Hey, I'm very excited about this.
01:17NFL legend Tom Brady is here tonight!
01:21Oh, my goodness!
01:24I love Tom Brady, because other than the good looks, chiseled physique, and seven Super Bowl rings,
01:29we're pretty much the same guy.
01:31I mean, twinsies, yeah.
01:34Yeah, Tom has seven Super Bowl rings, but sadly, he had to trade one today for a full tank of
01:38gas.
01:39Oh.
01:39That's what's happening.
01:40Yeah, it's unbelievable.
01:41Guys, I want to wish everyone a happy St. Patrick's Day.
01:47Happy St. Patrick's Day.
01:49Today, President Trump kept with tradition and hosted Ireland's prime minister for a White House visit.
01:54And once again, Trump made Marco Rubio dress up as a leprechaun.
01:59And this was fun.
02:00Trump also had him wear a pair of leprechaun slippers that were two sizes too big.
02:06Well, guys, it's day 18 of the war in Iran, and today, Trump said that most of our NATO allies
02:10have informed the White House that they don't want to get involved.
02:14Ooh.
02:15Yeah.
02:15Trump asked France for help, but they don't want to get involved with us in Iran.
02:19You know it's bad when France turns down a three-way.
02:23Oh, and people are talking about this.
02:28Trump keeps claiming that a former U.S. president told him,
02:31I wish I did what you did in Iran, but all of them deny speaking with Trump.
02:38I feel like two things seem equally possible.
02:40Either Trump's lying, or Joe Biden doesn't remember talking to him.
02:42It's very popular.
02:45Well, get this.
02:45According to a new poll, half of Americans believe Trump attacked Iran to distract from the Epstein files.
02:51Trump was like,
02:52Fake news.
02:52I attacked Venezuela to distract from the Epstein files.
02:56Well, guys, everyone's focused on the situation in the Middle East,
02:59where President Trump has been trying to unblock the Strait of Hormuz.
03:02For more on this, we go to our foreign correspondent, Kevin O'Reilly.
03:05Kevin, what's the latest?
03:07Well, Jimmy, the situation remains fluid, and the world's oil supply hangs in the balance.
03:13I'm sorry, Kevin, I'm sorry, I'm going to stop.
03:14Sorry to interrupt there, but there seems to be a malfunction.
03:17All we're seeing is your head.
03:19What?
03:20Oh, I see what's happening.
03:22I wore a green suit for St. Patrick's Day, and it's not showing up on the green screen.
03:28Well, I don't know what to do about this.
03:31Maybe if I get lower, is it better?
03:32Or move around like that?
03:34Is this better?
03:35Is this helping?
03:35No, it's not.
03:36No, now you look like a DVD screensaver.
03:40I don't know what you're doing.
03:42Just stop doing whatever.
03:44Is this good?
03:45No, stop.
03:46Is this helping?
03:47No, it's not getting better.
03:48No.
03:49No, it's not helping.
03:50Not helping.
03:51I know what I'll do.
03:52I know what to do.
03:53I can take my jacket off.
03:54Oh, okay.
03:55Great.
03:55Great.
03:56That might help.
03:57So, tell us, have any oil tankers been able to get through the Strait of Hormuz?
04:01As of now, no.
04:03The Strait is at a complete standstill.
04:06I'm sorry, sorry.
04:06Kevin, I'm sorry.
04:07Did your shirt say Daddy's Little Leprechaun?
04:10No.
04:11It says Daddy's Little Leprechaun.
04:13All right.
04:14Forget it.
04:15Let's just go to our sports correspondent, Eileen O'Doyle.
04:18Oh, no.
04:19Thanks, Jimmy.
04:20Oh, my gosh.
04:21March Madness is upon us.
04:22All right.
04:23Forget it.
04:23Forget it.
04:23Let's just move on.
04:24Happy St. Patrick's Day, everybody.
04:26Everyone's wearing green.
04:32Hey, this is cool.
04:33Team USA's World Cup uniforms have been revealed.
04:36Check these out.
04:38Ooh.
04:39Ooh.
04:39Yeah.
04:40Pretty sweet.
04:40They also released the official Team USA beanie.
04:43Check it out.
04:44Yeah.
04:44And then they also have the Team Glasses, apparently.
04:49All right.
04:50Here's the captain of Team USA wearing the whole uniform.
04:54I can't seem to find him.
04:57Oh, there he is.
04:58Right there.
04:58I found you.
04:59See it in the World Cup, dude.
05:02Yes.
05:05Well, some business news.
05:07The CEO of Delta Airlines said that airfares are going to go up due to rising fuel costs.
05:12Meanwhile, Southwest was like, in that case, we're just going to use half of our engines.
05:17Finally, guys, it is Tuesday.
05:19It is time for We Post.
05:20Here we go.
05:28Welcome to We Post.
05:29This is where we, as a group, decide something we should post on socials.
05:33I'm going to show you five different posts, and we're all going to vote on whether you like each one
05:37or not.
05:37You all have voting clickers at your seats.
05:39I can tell by the confusion, the mass confusion, that you do.
05:42Some of you don't.
05:44Here's the deal.
05:44You can vote for all of these if you like.
05:46You can vote for none of these.
05:47Whatever.
05:47I just want you to have fun and enjoy whatever.
05:49We'll see the results live.
05:50Higgins, you have a clicker.
05:51Ruth, you got clickers?
05:52Right.
05:53All right, good.
05:53We're going to post which everyone gets the most likes from all of us, because it's not a me post.
05:57It's a we post.
06:00You guys ready?
06:02All right.
06:02You guys ready?
06:03All right.
06:05The first post could be making small talk in the elevator, torture, overhearing other people's small talk in the elevator,
06:11I've never been more fascinated in my life.
06:14What are they saying?
06:16Oh.
06:16Really?
06:17Really?
06:18I never thought.
06:19Rather.
06:19Yeah.
06:21Okay, here we go.
06:22Up or down, green or red.
06:23The votes are in.
06:24Let's see the results.
06:26Not bad.
06:27146.
06:28Wow.
06:30146, pretty good.
06:31I think we can do better, though.
06:32Yeah, here we go.
06:33This next one here is, I don't know what the issue is, my number of fingers or every coffee mug
06:38handle ever.
06:42Too big, too small.
06:43You need three fingers to fit in that little four can't fit in there.
06:47No.
06:47Unless you have Mickey Mouse hands.
06:49Maybe you have Mickey Mouse gloves on.
06:50Yeah, Mickey Mouse gloves on.
06:51Yeah, all right, here we go.
06:52From the silence, I feel like this is not going to work.
06:55I feel like this might be a...
06:56Here we go.
06:57Let's see the results here.
07:00Oh, wow.
07:02That's called a double whammy.
07:03Yeah, that's terrible.
07:04All right, good.
07:05Well, that one's not going to make it.
07:06All right, let's go on.
07:07They can't all be winners, and they don't necessarily get better.
07:09So, here we go.
07:11Next one here says,
07:12at this point, I think it's time to change Spam Likely to 100% Spam.
07:18Wow.
07:19It's clearly Spam, if they say Spam Likely.
07:22No, there's no one.
07:22It's not just Likely, it is Spam.
07:23Yeah.
07:24All right, let's see the results on this one.
07:27Yeah, yeah, yeah.
07:28Oh, wow.
07:29It's one of those nights I could feel it.
07:31Yeah, yeah, yeah.
07:31I think the next, you know, we might get one.
07:35Really?
07:36Well, whatever it is, whatever the next one is,
07:38everybody thumbs up.
07:39All right.
07:40No, no, no, don't, don't, don't, don't, rig it.
07:42You have to only do it if you like it.
07:44Okay, okay.
07:44You don't have to.
07:45Let's not rig it.
07:49Freak.
07:50All right, this next one is,
07:52the easiest way to tell the difference between an alligator and a crocodile
07:55is to let one eat you, then check your obituary.
07:59I have no idea.
08:01One lives in the water.
08:02I have no clue what the difference is.
08:04Yeah.
08:04All right, vote yes or no on this one.
08:08And the votes are in.
08:09Let's see the results here.
08:11Oh, now that.
08:12Whoa, that's in the lead.
08:14That is now in the lead right now.
08:17Here we go.
08:17We're down to our last one here.
08:20This one says,
08:21I've never starred in Mission Impossible,
08:23but I have got a frantic text from my wife saying,
08:25I need the security code that was sent to your phone within 60 seconds.
08:29I don't know, honey.
08:30I don't know which one.
08:31I don't know.
08:32All right, Tendo, hopefully it went through.
08:34All right, let's see the results here.
08:37Everyone vote.
08:38Whoa!
08:39That's it.
08:40That's the winner.
08:41You guys like it.
08:43There you go.
08:44I'm going to post this during the break.
08:46If you happen to see it online, get that repost and repost.
08:49We have a great show.
08:50NFL legend Tom Brady is here tonight.
08:53My man.
08:55The very talented Linda Cardellini is joining us.
09:00Boston Celtics superstar Derek White is here.
09:04And we've got stand-up from Ireland's own Katie Boyle.
09:08Stick around.
09:09We'll be right back with Tom Brady.
09:11Come on back.
09:17I know Kevin Hart and Drewski will be there.
09:20Yes.
09:20If Kevin wants to jump in the game, he's fast.
09:22Could he play?
09:23Could he play?
09:23No, he can't play.
09:25You know what he could do?
09:26You know when they kick the ball off and they run the little kid out there to grab the tee
09:29and they run it back?
09:31Kevin, we've got a job for you, Kevin.
09:41Our first guest is a seven-time Super Bowl champion who has more wins, yards, and touchdowns
09:48than any quarterback in NFL history.
09:50Now he's playing in the Fanatics flag football classic, brought to you by Fanatics Studios,
09:55which airs live this Saturday at 4 p.m. on Fox Sports.
10:00Please welcome the one and only Tom Brady!
10:13Hi, guys.
10:14That's Tom Brady.
10:15That's what I'm talking about.
10:17Yeah, bud.
10:18Hi.
10:19That's what I'm talking about.
10:21That's right.
10:22Give it up.
10:22Come in love.
10:23Come on.
10:24Tom Brady.
10:24My favorite.
10:25My man.
10:26Thank you for being here, bud.
10:27First of all, I brought you something.
10:29We opened, I have hobby shops around the country.
10:32We opened our 13th card vault by Tom Brady, and I know you're a big Derek Jeter fan, so
10:36I thought you were bringing a Derek Jeter signed card.
10:38What?
10:39You like it?
10:39He's my favorite.
10:40Are you kidding me?
10:40I know.
10:40Well, he's my favorite, too.
10:41So that's why I brought it.
10:42Oh, my God.
10:44The best.
10:45Outside all the Eagles fans I know you have over there.
10:48I know there are a lot of Eagles fans here.
10:49Yeah, yeah, yeah.
10:50I'm going to stay away as far from you as possible.
10:53I love that you're doing stuff like this, too.
10:55And how is this going, this card shop?
10:57It's going great.
10:58Really enjoyable for me.
10:59Just kind of reconnecting with the hobby.
11:01I started when I was a young kid, like all of us, just getting connected with collecting
11:05cards, trading cards with your friends and so forth.
11:08And now we get to do it.
11:09And kind of the next generation of collectors are these young kids.
11:14Get them out there and get going.
11:15I love that you're just a fan, too, of sports.
11:18We had Jack Hughes on the show.
11:19Yeah.
11:19And they were like, dude, we all watched the women's hockey team win gold with Tom.
11:23Oh, man.
11:24Incredible.
11:24And Tom is the biggest fan out there.
11:25Yeah.
11:26Well, I think them, because they're still in the moment and they're still participating
11:29and active athletes, you know, you want to see all these guys do well.
11:32But you're kind of also like, what are they doing, you know, and strategizing.
11:35Yeah.
11:35Now I'm just like, I'm so beyond that.
11:37Now I'm like, man, I just want to see some great plays happen.
11:41And even when I've gotten into my broadcasting with Fox, like just watching from the 50-yard line
11:46and watching these incredible athletes do incredible things just gets me excited because I want to see them do it.
11:52You know, I want to see these young guys on the field be better than what we were.
11:56You know, we took the game to a certain point.
11:57Now they've got to elevate it to the next point.
11:59There's a lot of times I pinch myself, you know.
12:01I'm just like, wow, I can't believe what a crazy life.
12:03A giant statue at Gillette Stadium.
12:06I mean, it's got to feel great.
12:09Yeah.
12:10And then all the pigeons take dead aim at that whenever they fly over.
12:15So be careful when you get a statue because, you know, you never know how it's going to look from
12:18day to day.
12:19That's interesting.
12:19I didn't even think about that.
12:20But, yeah, like you were saying, do you think this kid would ever think that he'd have a statue of
12:24himself?
12:25Oh, my God.
12:25Oh, that's not a cute picture.
12:27Please.
12:27What are you talking about?
12:28Like, didn't you, like, you saw the Netflix roast.
12:31You've done enough roasting.
12:32You've got to get rid of that photo.
12:34I feel like these kids would be crying because.
12:37Now, that's a proper haircut.
12:38The problem is, when I went home, my mom used to cry when I would come home with haircuts.
12:42Like, why did they do that to your hair?
12:45Me too.
12:46I know.
12:46I'm like, can you do the bowl cut where you cut it all the way down and around and shave
12:49it?
12:49Like, the bare skin and then the front.
12:52I mean, it's ridiculous.
12:53One time I got a perm.
12:55Did you?
12:56Yeah, this is a true story.
12:57I was in college.
12:58And, you know, when you're in college, you have no money and you take anything for free.
13:01Yeah.
13:01You know, anything.
13:01I go, great.
13:03And my friends were getting their hair cut and I was walking past.
13:05And this girl goes, hey, your hair's so straight.
13:09Do you ever think about getting a body wave?
13:11I don't know what that is, but, yeah.
13:13She goes, I'm actually in school right now.
13:16I can give you one for free.
13:17I go, let's do a body wave, man.
13:20Are you kidding me?
13:20Let's go for this.
13:21Cut to, I had rollers in my hair and I was under one of those heat lamps.
13:25Oh, my God.
13:25And I'm reading, like, Red Book or something.
13:28And my buddy's walking by the window.
13:29I'm like, hey, what's up, man?
13:30Like, dude, what are you doing?
13:31I go, it's just a body wave.
13:32It's not a perm.
13:33I'm just getting, my hair's pretty straight, so she's going to add a little wave to it.
13:37She took out these rollers.
13:38I had the tightest perm I've ever seen in my life.
13:42Please tell me you had pictures of this.
13:43Unfortunately, they're out there somewhere.
13:44Why is that not up here?
13:45I remember going, I know, I didn't bring it tonight.
13:47I was like, but I remember going home, my mom started crying.
13:50Yeah.
13:51What are you doing to step to your hair for?
13:53It was free.
13:54Yeah, loved it.
13:55Not the excuse.
13:56No, it's not.
13:57She didn't want it.
13:57Let's talk about this Fanatics flag football classic.
14:00Yeah, let's talk about it.
14:01By the way, I love that you're doing this now.
14:02This Saturday, it's live.
14:04It's scary, right?
14:05Yeah, it is.
14:06Yeah.
14:06Well, first time since you retired in 2023.
14:08Tom Brady is back in the field.
14:10You're playing quarterback.
14:11I know.
14:11I lost the last game I played against the Cowboys, the Dak Prescott.
14:14Now I get to go out on the field on Saturday in LA, 4 p.m.
14:18Eastern.
14:20And I get to compete again.
14:21So, been in the booth watching these young guys play.
14:23Now I get to go out there and try to kick their butt once again and remind them who the
14:26boss is.
14:27Yeah, Jackie, so what's up?
14:29Yeah.
14:29And I always, I texted Joe Burrow and Jay Daniels.
14:32They're the opposing quarterbacks.
14:34I said, you know, I love beating Heisman Trophy winners.
14:37I was 199th pick and I always took dead aim at the guys who were picked way ahead of me.
14:41So, they said, bring, you know, talk that you know what and bring it on.
14:44How does it work?
14:44How does the game play?
14:46So, there's three teams.
14:48Two pro teams, 24 players total.
14:51And then the USA flag team is playing as well.
14:54Oh, amazing.
14:54So, three amazing teams.
14:55And they've been practicing and playing.
14:57They're the five-time world champion.
14:59So, LA 2028, there's flag football in the Olympics.
15:02Yeah.
15:03And I thought it was just a great opportunity for us to go out there and kind of get the
15:07buzz started early.
15:08It was supposed to be in Saudi Arabia, obviously, with the events that are happening in the Olympics.
15:12We moved it to Los Angeles in a very short period of time.
15:14Yeah.
15:15But there's incredible enthusiasm behind it.
15:17The NFL is behind it.
15:18There's great players playing.
15:19Dude, you have Gronk.
15:19It's going to be a great competition.
15:20You and Gronk, again, you have Saquon Barkley, Jalen Hurts, Joe Burrow, Miles Garrett.
15:26Yeah.
15:26I mean, fantastic.
15:27I want to pick Miles on my team.
15:28Yeah, I do, right?
15:29I feel like all these people are great.
15:31Yeah.
15:31But then you also have, like, I Show Speed.
15:33You have Logan Paul.
15:34Yeah, and Bud Crawford.
15:35Yeah, and Bud, yeah.
15:36One of the three non, you know, they're great athletes.
15:38Logan Paul's not really a great athlete, but just kidding.
15:41I know.
15:42He actually is.
15:43I saw a backflip of him today.
15:44You're going to get in big trouble.
15:45I know, I am.
15:45Yeah, you are.
15:46But he, like, literally called out these NFL players, and then I had all these guys coming
15:49to me, going, I'm going to, you know, and I'm like, guys, chill out, all right?
15:53We're not committing any crimes against Logan Paul.
15:55Yeah, yeah.
15:55I know Kevin Hart and Drewski will be there.
15:57Yes.
15:58If Kevin wants to jump in the game, he's fast.
16:00Would you, can he play?
16:01Could he play?
16:01No, he can't play.
16:02You know what he could do?
16:04You know when they kick the ball off and they run the little kid out there to grab the tee
16:07and
16:07they run it back?
16:08Kevin, we got a job for you, Kevin.
16:11Run out, grab the tee.
16:13I know it would be bigger than you.
16:14You might have to pull it off the field, but.
16:16You might be able to pull that off.
16:17Oh, my God, yeah.
16:18He's like the little kid they put at the top of, like, the cheerleading pyramid.
16:22Oh, Kevin, he's so cute.
16:24Oh, my gosh, Kevin.
16:25I'm so sorry, Kev, but we have to.
16:26No, I'm not sorry, Kevin.
16:27You know how I feel about you.
16:30Even your Philly guys are laughing at you, Kevin.
16:32Yeah.
16:35You're one of the best quarterbacks of all time, if not, I would say, the greatest.
16:39I was wondering if you could help me, because I was playing catch with my daughter this weekend
16:43with a Nerf football.
16:44And she was like, Dad, why do you throw it like that?
16:48Oh, no.
16:49Well, yeah, she's got a great arm.
16:51I just don't.
16:52I never understood.
16:53No one really ever taught me my...
16:54I can help.
16:55You can?
16:56Yeah.
16:56Could you give me some tips?
16:57You want to throw?
16:58Yeah, come on.
16:59I'm always down to throw.
17:00Let's go.
17:01What do I have to do?
17:02All right, where am I standing?
17:03You said, well, teach me the moves first, what do I have to do?
17:06Let me teach you what not to do first.
17:08And what most people do wrong when they throw a football.
17:10Yeah.
17:10So they try to generate the power to put on the ball with their upper body.
17:14So if I'm throwing right here at the camera, they open their left shoulder and their head.
17:18And guess where all their energy is going?
17:19Ah.
17:20Toward that beautiful band over there.
17:21Questlove over there.
17:23So where you really want the energy going is straight ahead at the camera.
17:25So instead of opening your left shoulder when you start, just close your left shoulder.
17:29And then rotate your body and throw.
17:31But you got to be nice and relaxed.
17:33Nice and relaxed.
17:33I am relaxed.
17:34Okay.
17:34In sports, it's all relaxed.
17:36Okay.
17:36Wow.
17:37You can do that.
17:38All right, good.
17:38So you want to try?
17:39Okay.
17:39You're the boss.
17:40You go there.
17:40Okay, I'll go here.
17:41I'll go here.
17:41But what if this is terrible?
17:42Okay, so bend your knees.
17:44Okay.
17:44This is what I always say.
17:45Like a shortstop, like Derek Jeter.
17:46Yes.
17:47So when you face me, it's just like really athletic stance.
17:49So just slightly bent-legged like you're fielding a ground ball.
17:51Not quite like that, but you know, you're close.
17:53Yeah.
17:54And then when you stride, just rotate your shoulder, not to the left, but to this side.
17:59And then just relax your arm and then rotate your body.
18:01Nice and easy.
18:02That's cool.
18:03Like, I always say fast but relaxed.
18:05Oh yeah.
18:06Drum roll, please.
18:08Look at those beats.
18:10Yeah!
18:13That wasn't bad.
18:14I'm flipping it.
18:15You want to try one more?
18:16Yeah, I'll try one more.
18:16Okay, the only thing you want to do.
18:18I'm flipping it.
18:18Okay.
18:18So this wrist.
18:19Yes.
18:19Okay, you see this reverse C?
18:21So you see the C with your hand?
18:23Yes.
18:23Right now you have a U.
18:24Correct.
18:25So just make it a C when you throw, a reverse C, and you're going to release it.
18:29So if I was throwing your direction, if you saw me from behind, when I release the ball,
18:32the ball's like that.
18:33Not like this.
18:34Yes.
18:35And then you're cutting across the ball.
18:36Thanks, coach.
18:37Don't do that.
18:38Thanks, coach.
18:38Don't be like Bill Belichick.
18:39God damn it.
18:40Yeah, that's what I want.
18:42That's what I'm talking about.
18:43There you go.
18:43Come on, a little energy.
18:45There we go.
18:48Redeem my...
18:49That was good.
18:50Thank you, coach.
18:51That was good.
18:51My coach, Tom Brady, everybody.
18:53The Fanatics Live Football Classic airs live this Saturday at 4 p.m. on Fox Sports.
19:00We're breaking records with Tom after the break.
19:02Stick around, everybody.
19:04Oh, let's see.
19:05Stop.
19:08Let's go.
19:09There we go.
19:12Just like that, Jimmy.
19:13Just like that.
19:15Just like that, Jimmy.
19:27Welcome back.
19:28I'm here with Tom Brady.
19:30Now...
19:30Thank you, guys.
19:32Tom, if you ask any NFL fan, you are considered the best to ever do it.
19:37Over the course of your career, you broke so many records.
19:40Most passing yards.
19:43Most completions.
19:45Most touchdowns.
19:47Most regular season wins.
19:49Most playoff wins.
19:51Most Super Bowl wins.
19:53Most Super Bowl MVPs.
19:56You broke all the records.
19:58Come on.
19:58Come on, man.
20:00That's dangerous.
20:01But I was thinking, since you're here, how about you break some more records?
20:06Ready?
20:06I guess.
20:07Let's go.
20:07It's time for Tom Brady Breaks Records.
20:10Here he goes.
20:11Breaks records.
20:13Tom Brady.
20:16All right, Tom.
20:17All right, what do we got?
20:18I'm going to throw these records in the air.
20:19What are those glasses for, first of all?
20:21I'm not going to hit you.
20:22I know you won't, but maybe the records might shatter.
20:25Oh, well, I'm not worried about the records.
20:26You're going to throw footballs at them and see how many you can break in 30 seconds.
20:30You ready to do this?
20:31Yeah, you ready.
20:32Let's go.
20:33I don't know.
20:33It's a little warm-up for Saturday.
20:35Yep, here we go.
20:36Yep.
20:43There we go.
20:46Just like that, Jimmy.
20:47Just like that.
20:49Just like that, Jimmy.
20:52Come on.
20:57Turn.
20:59Oops.
21:01That one slipped.
21:07There you go.
21:08Come on.
21:09That's how you're doing right there.
21:12That's it.
21:14You're the best.
21:14You're the best.
21:16Tom Brady right there.
21:17Thank you, guys.
21:19Thank you so much.
21:20Stick around.
21:21We're talking to Linda Cardellini after the break, everybody.
21:24I couldn't throw the records, dude.
21:25That's like, I'm like...
21:42Our next guest is an Emmy-nominated actress who stars in the new show DTF St. Louis.
21:48New episodes air every Sunday at 9 p.m. on HBO and HBO Max.
21:54Please welcome Linda Cardellini.
21:56Come on back.
21:59Say the record.
22:01Come on back.
22:02Say the record.
22:03Come on back.
22:05Come on.
22:06That's what I'm talking about.
22:08Yeah!
22:08Say the record.
22:09Come on back.
22:09Come on back.
22:10Come on back.
22:11Come on back.
22:13Oh, that's so nice to see you.
22:16So nice to see you.
22:17Welcome back to the show.
22:18And I just learned this backstage about you, but you are Irish.
22:21I am mostly Irish on my mom's side and then my grandmother on my dad's side.
22:25She is a touch of Irish.
22:26Well, happy St. Patrick's Day to you.
22:28You too.
22:29You're Irish, right?
22:30Yes.
22:30Found you.
22:31Very Irish.
22:32You started acting in college, right?
22:36Yeah.
22:36I mean, I tried before that, but...
22:38You did?
22:38Yeah, but nobody cared.
22:41They didn't care.
22:41Do you remember any of your first auditions?
22:44My first...
22:44You know, I had read this thing that all these big stars used to crash auditions, and so
22:48I read that Michael J. Fox had crashed auditions.
22:50What does it mean?
22:51Like, you just show up?
22:52Like, you just...
22:52Yeah, you just, like, show up and they don't have an appointment and don't have an agent
22:56and you can just get in there.
22:57I don't think it's true.
22:58I don't even know if it's true.
22:59Wow.
22:59But I read that all these people did that.
23:01Yeah, and I'm not even that kind of person.
23:03I'm always like...
23:04Me too.
23:05This restaurant's closed, right?
23:06I can't eat here, right?
23:07And then I get kicked out.
23:07That's me too.
23:08I play by the rules all the time.
23:09And so this girl was going to an audition and I went with her.
23:11It was for a commercial.
23:12And you had to, like, you know, hold a thing.
23:16Can I touch your water?
23:16Yeah, of course.
23:17Please.
23:18And you had to hold a cup and, like, talk about it.
23:21And I just kept doing this the whole time.
23:24And so I was covering whatever the product was.
23:27And they were like, you're terrible at this.
23:28No.
23:28Yeah, you're like, just hold the can of Pepsi.
23:31Yeah, no.
23:31Pepsi is the great...
23:32Yeah, you couldn't do that.
23:33No, I could not.
23:34No.
23:34I was bad at it.
23:35I did an audition once for a soft drink or something like that.
23:38And I was so nervous.
23:39And they went up.
23:40And before I had my lines, they sprayed me with a water bottle.
23:42And they were just like, all right, we're going to do it.
23:44You have to be out of breath.
23:45They go, yeah, I know.
23:45I'm like a courier or something.
23:47I had to ride a bike or something.
23:48And they go, all right.
23:48And they just, they sprayed me in the face with water.
23:51And I go, this is so degrading.
23:52Did you get the part?
23:53I did not get the part.
23:54No.
23:55It was just embarrassing.
23:55I go, oh, my gosh.
23:57But did you ever take any chances at audition and get the part?
24:00I mean, typically, yes.
24:02And then all the times, you know, also it goes badly.
24:05But I remember when I was auditioning for Scooby-Doo, I was going, you know, I.
24:11I mean.
24:13I was really excited because I was my favorite cartoon growing up.
24:17So I was going in for Velma.
24:19And I was like, I'm not going to go in there without my glasses and my turtleneck, you know.
24:23So I went to Ross and bought this orange turtleneck and borrowed a friend of mine's glasses.
24:27You went to Ross?
24:28I did, I did.
24:29And I, you know, I needed a bargain.
24:31Of course.
24:32Ross is great.
24:33And they had things that were out of season.
24:34It wasn't really orange turtleneck season.
24:36So, and then I went and I got this orange turtleneck and this skirt.
24:39You dressed like.
24:39And I dressed in a costume, which I was kind of new at the, when I got that part.
24:44Was this after Freaks and Geeks?
24:45It was after Freaks and Geeks, but Freaks and Geeks wasn't like a big success or anything.
24:47So I was pretty new.
24:49And I just figured you were supposed to dress the part.
24:51So I got there and there were a lot of people who, so I was kind of still a nobody.
24:55Freaks and Geeks got canceled and, you know.
24:58And now people have seen it because it's on DVD.
25:00But at the time, not a lot of people were watching it.
25:02Yeah.
25:02And so I went in there and I saw all these famous people sitting in the waiting room.
25:07Were they dressed as Velma?
25:08No.
25:09They were in normal people clothes.
25:11They looked great.
25:12And I looked like.
25:13We're actors.
25:13Yeah.
25:14Yeah, you're dressed like the character.
25:15Yeah.
25:16And I went in there dressed up in this costume and just felt so stupid.
25:21And then I did my audition and I did all these like crazy things that, you know, like took off
25:24my glasses and did, you know, all these like.
25:26And I just felt like I had made the biggest fool out of myself.
25:29And I came home and cried and cried and cried.
25:30And then I got the part.
25:31Yeah, see, there you go.
25:32And you nailed it.
25:34Yeah, my dad always says he knew I would get a part if I came home crying.
25:38So I guess you have to make a fool out of yourself.
25:39You gotta have to be a fool out of yourself.
25:40You gotta try, yeah.
25:41Let's talk about your show, DTF St. Louis.
25:44Yes.
25:45Congratulations on this, by the way.
25:46People love it.
25:48I love it.
25:50Your character, Carol, has a lot of hobbies.
25:53I know she loves Jamba Juice.
25:54She has a lot of good catchphrases.
25:56She's a Little League umpire.
25:58She sure is.
25:59Yeah.
25:59I don't know if she really wants to be, but she is.
26:01But she is.
26:01She needs to do it for the fam.
26:03She does.
26:03And by the way, here's you in character.
26:05Oh, thank you for that.
26:06No problem.
26:08I didn't know they wear that much padding.
26:10I thought it went on the outside.
26:12Me too.
26:13But Steve Conrad, who's our wonderful, like, writer-director, was very intent on it being
26:18on the inside, which I do think makes it stand out.
26:23That's pretty fun.
26:23Is there any move that you learned as being an umpire?
26:26Oh, I love the moves.
26:27The best.
26:27I mean, I'm a little rusty because, you know, I haven't umped in a while.
26:30Yeah.
26:31It gives a taste.
26:32What does it do with it?
26:32I mean, that one in the picture is like, strike.
26:35Yeah, that's what I'm talking about.
26:36You know what I mean?
26:37And it's like, strike.
26:39Yes.
26:40Yeah, yeah.
26:40Or like, you know, there's a bad, there's like names for them all.
26:42Oh, really?
26:43I know, I did like a class with a guy who was an umpire, and it was really fun.
26:46That's also, I think, a lot of pressure, by the way, an umpire.
26:49You're right.
26:49I was a Little League ump once.
26:51What?
26:51Someone was sick, and they asked me if I could jump in and do it, and I go, sure, and
26:55I
26:55put the thing on the outside.
26:56But I was there with the mask, and you've got to make the call.
26:59I mean, strike, ball, a lot of people are angry.
27:01You're going to break some hearts.
27:02I did not like that.
27:03I'm a very, yes, everyone wins type of guy.
27:05I know, I know.
27:06What do you think of this?
27:07I know.
27:08I am too.
27:08So, Carol, not a nod at all.
27:10This character, not at all.
27:11But I like the little clicky thing they gave you.
27:13Oh, they gave me that, too?
27:14I had that in a notebook?
27:15Yes.
27:16A notebook?
27:16I don't know what I was writing down in it.
27:18No, me neither.
27:18I like the clicky thing.
27:19Oh, my gosh.
27:20It says right here, two strikes.
27:21I'm so excited.
27:23Can we set up what DTF St. Louis is about and who you play?
27:26Okay, I play a woman named Carol, and she is married to a man named Floyd, played by David
27:32Harbour.
27:32He's amazing.
27:33I know, he is amazing.
27:34And she also is, there's a love triangle with Jason Bateman there.
27:39It certainly is.
27:41And somebody ends up dead.
27:44And it's sort of looking into, and that's not a spoiler, it happens very early, and it's
27:48sort of looking into how this happened.
27:50And, you know, the title is provocative, but sometimes the scenes are just more awkward
27:55and funny and odd, and it has its own style.
27:59Yeah, and DTF St. Louis was what David Harbour finds out is an app, a dating app.
28:06Yes, it's a dating app for married people who want to not act married for a minute.
28:10Yes, yeah.
28:12It's fantastic.
28:13You do a great job.
28:14I want to show a clip.
28:15Here's Linda Cardellini in DTF St. Louis.
28:17Take a look.
28:18Why are you doing Uptalk?
28:20Doing what?
28:20Doing everything ends in a question?
28:23Doing Kids Are in the Sunshine?
28:24Okay, I'm not.
28:25Okay, you are.
28:26Okay.
28:27Well, maybe I'm just, you know, maybe I'm a little nervous about, you know, saying that
28:33the umpire gear around the house, it makes it a little hard for me to get my engine revved.
28:40You know, it kind of, uh, does it kind of neutralizes, uh, sexually?
28:45So maybe if there was more time around the house when we weren't an umpire,
28:50um, I thought it was important to share this, you know, so that our sex life can...
28:55Yeah, okay, thank you.
28:58Okay?
28:59Okay.
29:01Linda Cardellini, everybody!
29:03New episodes of DTF St. Louis airs Sundays at 9 p.m. on HBO and HBO Max.
29:10We're talking to Derek White after the break.
29:12Stick around, everybody.
29:14On, on, to the break of dawn
29:17Wanna get it cheap, you need a coupon
29:19Catch a sale, retail, before it gets there
29:24I bring forth a future twirl
29:26Smash glass in my hands to produce a pearl
29:29This ain't gonna stay to think now, I'm sure
29:32Our next guest is an NBA champion and Olympic gold medal winning point guard
29:37from the Boston Celtics
29:39Please welcome Derek White!
29:53Derek White right there, come on!
29:57You look great.
29:59Welcome to the show.
30:00You've been in the NBA for 10 years, is that right?
30:03This is year nine.
30:04Nine, nine years, and last night you were honored as Defensive Player of the Month.
30:09Yeah, how's that feel to be Defensive Player of the Month?
30:12Your dad must be proud, because I read some articles where you used to have a Nerf hoop
30:16and he would throw balls into the hoop and you'd swat it out of the way?
30:20Yeah, yeah, yeah, dad is definitely a proud father.
30:24Yeah, we grew up and we used to put a little Nerf hoop on the closet door
30:30and I had to make the rule that no dunking was allowed because that was too easy for him
30:35Of course, he was the dad.
30:37Here you are, a little young guy.
30:39Yeah, he was a little guy.
30:39Yeah, come on, bud.
30:41So layups only, and I was able to get some blocks from there
30:44and I think it kind of translated to me blocking some shots at the NBA.
30:48Defensive Player of the Month, not too shabby, and a gold medal too, come on.
30:51Not too bad, come on.
30:53I mean, yeah.
30:54You're a dad now.
30:57Are there a lot of Nerf hoops in your house right now?
31:00Yeah, you can't walk about 10 feet in my house without finding a basketball hoop somewhere.
31:04Is that right?
31:05We got a lot of basketball around.
31:06I'm not forcing them into it, but...
31:09Yeah, you kind of are.
31:10Yeah, yeah, yeah.
31:11Here's you with baby Hendricks in the hospital.
31:14Yeah.
31:15Oh, my gosh.
31:15How many years ago was this?
31:17That was about three, almost four years ago now.
31:20That's unbelievable.
31:21That's the day he was born.
31:22It's all happening.
31:23You missed the game.
31:24You've got to watch the game with it.
31:25And the Celtics won, so...
31:27Oh, there you go, man.
31:28There you go.
31:28You won.
31:30But then you also had something happen to you, which I thought was great, and you know I have to
31:33bring this up.
31:34There's something happened with your tooth during one of the games.
31:37Your tooth fell out or chipped or something happened to your tooth, and instead of you just playing along, you...
31:45You glued your tooth with just, like, Elmer's glue or something, and you could see it right there.
31:53What happened, and how did you end up with a glued tooth?
31:56So I've been putting off going to the dentist for a while, and I had some teeth issue in the
32:02past, and so I go to the game, I get hit in the mouth, and I had a bridge on
32:06at the time, and it came out.
32:08And so I just picked it up and went straight to the back, and I'm not a hockey player, so
32:12I had to, like, figure out a way to glue it back together or figure it out.
32:16So they just kind of glued it, and then I put a mouthpiece on, and then played the rest of
32:20the game, and eventually went to the dentist the next day.
32:24What'd your dentist say?
32:25What's wrong with you?
32:27He said, I told you to come in a week ago.
32:32You're a legend in Boston.
32:34Everyone loves you.
32:35Everyone loves you around the country, but in Boston, come on, it's priceless.
32:38You get to go everywhere.
32:39I saw you did a thing with Sam Adams, which, by the way, is fantastic, what you do with Sam
32:44Adams.
32:45It's great.
32:45I know you got to ride the duck boat, which is anyone from Boston knows this.
32:50I bought a duck boat.
32:52You bought a duck boat.
32:53Yeah, of course.
32:53Yeah, that was fun.
32:54You got to do the cop slide.
32:56You guys know the cop slide?
32:57I sat in the bottom of the cop slide.
32:59If you don't know, do you know the cop slide?
33:02If you don't know it, it's a great video.
33:05It went viral.
33:06Here's the cop slide.
33:14Wow, I went a little too fast.
33:17Oh, my gosh.
33:18Everyone's okay.
33:19But you didn't go down it.
33:21You just sat on it?
33:22Yeah, yeah.
33:23So I was sitting there.
33:24I was like, maybe I should go down it.
33:25And then they went a lot later.
33:26Yeah, good.
33:27Yeah, yeah, yeah.
33:28You're American.
33:29You're royalty.
33:30Yeah, you're American.
33:30Yeah, you cannot do that.
33:31So I just took a picture at the bottom.
33:33That's a smart thing to do.
33:35You now have your own beer, by the way.
33:37You have Derek White Ale.
33:39You know, come on.
33:40This is what I'm talking about.
33:45Is life crazy?
33:46It's insane.
33:47Yeah.
33:48Never thought I'd have a beer.
33:49No.
33:50Never thought I would drink a beer, honestly.
33:52No, no, yeah, exactly.
33:53I have one.
33:54Now you actually have it with your face on it.
33:55Yeah, it's amazing.
33:55And everyone can get this.
33:57I just figured since it's St. Paddy's Day,
33:59maybe we should have a drink and just celebrate.
34:02We got the green.
34:08I have a nice little pour.
34:09Ooh, it looks pretty good right there.
34:13Ooh, that's a nice pour.
34:15Happy St. Patrick's Day, thank you.
34:16Cheers, my friend.
34:17Happy St. Patrick's Day.
34:18Derek White, everybody.

34:49Making your Tonight Show debut,
34:51please welcome the very funny Katie Boyle.
35:03Happy St. Patrick's Day.
35:08I am from Ireland,
35:09and I am here to tell you
35:10it is way easier to date in this country
35:12as an Irish man than it is an Irish woman,
35:14because we are from a roasting culture,
35:16which is flirting,
35:17and American women are like,
35:19yeah, roast me.
35:20But when we do it to American men,
35:22they cry.
35:24I am also used to fighting an Irish man
35:27for the bill,
35:28but him still paying for the bill.
35:29And I was on a date here with an American,
35:31and I was like,
35:31oh, would you like me to pay?
35:33And he goes, okay.
35:35I was like, who raised you?
35:38I did go on to date him for a few years.
35:42And when he showed me engagement rings,
35:44they were only $300.
35:46I didn't mind that.
35:47I just minded that he owed me $500.
35:50I was like, is this proposal coming with $200?
35:54And then he said,
35:55I'm not going to propose until you let me call you baby.
35:58I was like, excuse you.
36:00I paid for the rent this month.
36:03You can call me madame.
36:06A lot of women want to date Irish men now,
36:09because they think they're so romantic,
36:10because Hosier is doing awful propaganda for them.
36:15I promise you,
36:16Hosier's missus is listening to those songs,
36:18being like,
36:18who you crawling out of the grave for,
36:19you never said that to me.
36:22I have a fiance from Ireland now.
36:24We used to date when we were younger,
36:25and when we got back together later in life,
36:26he said,
36:27I always felt you were a missed opportunity.
36:31I was like,
36:31let's tell people you felt I was the one that got away,
36:33because you're making me sound like Bitcoin.
36:37I hate the stereotypes that are put on Irish people,
36:40but then I go home to my grandfather,
36:41and I'm like,
36:42ooh, this is what they're talking about.
36:44He's a Catholic.
36:45He's a farmer.
36:46He grows his own potatoes,
36:48because he's like,
36:48we'll never let it happen again.
36:51He's worn a Peaky Blinders hat every day of his life.
36:54I don't know if he's hair on the top of his head.
36:57His name is Seamus.
36:59He's like propaganda the Brits would have used against us.
37:03He doesn't understand my Gen Z sister,
37:05and when she was telling me she was being gaslit at school,
37:08he got such a fright,
37:09he thought someone had tried to set her afire.
37:12Then when she explained what gaslighting is,
37:14he looked like he would have preferred
37:15if someone had tried to set her afire.
37:19He hates that we don't speak Irish as a first language,
37:21so I've been relearning it,
37:22and it made me realise we're very dramatic as a people.
37:25If you want to say I'm hungry in Irish,
37:27it's to uchres urm,
37:28but then it translates back into English as,
37:30the hunger is on me.
37:33That is the most famine-head way to say that.
37:36My grandfather is from Lomford,
37:39and Lomford is the same colours as the Ukrainian flag.
37:42When all the Ukrainian flags popped up in New York,
37:44I'm such an idiot,
37:45I was walking around like,
37:46I had no idea there were so many people from Lomford here
37:48this whole time.
37:51And then I didn't realise that a lot of people
37:52sometimes think I'm Eastern European
37:54because I don't have ginger hair,
37:55I don't have freckles.
37:56I had this man walk up to me in the street,
37:58start speaking Polish to me,
38:00and when I said I didn't understand,
38:01he goes,
38:01oh, typical Polish-American
38:02doesn't understand her own language.
38:05I was like,
38:06no, I'm just a typical Irish person
38:07who doesn't understand my own language.
38:10And then he goes,
38:11why do you have an Eastern European face?
38:14I go,
38:14I don't know,
38:15but I'm going to go home and ask some questions.
38:18I had taken my grandfather's Lomford jersey
38:21to wear over here
38:22and I didn't realise I was walking around New York
38:24looking like I was wearing a Ukrainian jersey
38:26with a Ukrainian face.
38:29Americans would stop me in the street
38:30and be like,
38:30oh my God,
38:31we're so sorry for what's happening to your people.
38:33And I'd be like,
38:34the Brits,
38:35they left ages ago.
38:38They'd be like,
38:39we knew the Brits were involved,
38:40they're always involved.
38:44I do love that New Yorkers
38:46do talk to you in the street.
38:47They have a reputation of being rude.
38:48They're not,
38:49they're just direct,
38:49you know,
38:50they'll be like,
38:50love your sneakers,
38:52hate your face.
38:55And my grandfather called me
38:56to see if people have been complimenting the jersey.
38:59And I told them that day
39:00that a New Yorker girl told me it was ugly
39:02and he goes,
39:03Katie,
39:05she is gaslighting you.
39:09I can't wait till he learns more truth
39:11and he turns off my sister
39:12and tries to use them.
39:13He goes into the local store
39:14and he sees they've raised the price of milk
39:15and he's like,
39:16you're all narcissists.
39:20My grandfather came to New York
39:22for the first time 25 years ago.
39:24So he saw a lot of things
39:25he'd never seen before.
39:26And one of those things
39:27was for the first time
39:28he saw two men kissing.
39:30But what he said was,
39:32oh,
39:34I didn't know we could do that.
39:39So in this reality,
39:40my grandfather's been married
39:41to the same woman
39:42for 70 years in Longford,
39:43but in a different reality,
39:44he's a gay man in New York.
39:46Thank you so much for having Katie Boyle.
39:51That's great.
39:52Oh my God.
39:53Thank you so much.
