00:00your makeup isn't lasting because you're doing it wrong. I'm a makeup artist with about 20 years
00:04and experience and I know a lot of stuff. It all starts with your cleansing. If your cleansing
00:08routine isn't working for you, that's a problem. I truly encourage more than any other step in your
00:16routine to figure out a good system, is to figure out your cleansing routine. For me, washing my
00:22makeup off with a balm or an oil or a cleanser that emulsifies and turns into a milk is the
00:26best
00:27recipe and then using a washcloth to take it off, like a towel fabric. Not microfiber, not muslin,
00:34just a towel fabric, some space-sized cloth. What that's going to do is it's going to take away the
00:38dead skin as you're washing your face and help you remove the makeup in the process. If you want to
00:43do
00:43the whole micellar water step first, be my guest. I don't. I just go straight in with a cleansing balm
00:48or a cleansing oil to my face, no water, hot washcloth, wipe everything away, I'm good. So that's
00:55something to just think about. If you're not doing that step, I would integrate that step in before
00:59you even consider what I'm about to say. But what I'm about to say, I think, is going to make
01:05you
01:05rethink makeup and how makeup should be applied. On my skin right now is a concoction of products
01:09that I don't dislike at all. I just dislike them together with the complexion type product that I'm
01:14going to suggest. I'm wearing the Rode Glazing Milk. I'm wearing a rich-ish moisturizer everywhere,
01:21just everything is everywhere. So across my whole surface of my face, across the whole surface of my face,
01:25and then a skin tint. I mean an SPF, even. If your next step, no matter what your skin type,
01:32if you're oily, absolutely not. You cannot do this routine. But if your next step is anything
01:37that looks like this, then it is not going to last five minutes. Again, I want to preface this
01:43with everybody's skin is different and you know what your skin needs. Simplify it by just focus on
01:47your cleansing first or a process of elimination situation with skincare. But if your skincare and
01:53skin prep looks like this and you like it to look like this, then maybe you want to go for
01:56something
01:56that looks like one of these as your complexion product. A full coverage matte concealer, a stick
02:00foundation, or a concealer and a stick. Or a full coverage foundation, like a double wear, something
02:05like that. Whenever people ask me what's the most long-lasting foundation, I'm like it's not the
02:09foundation that's long-lasting, it's your routine and it's your priming steps. And I say priming steps
02:15with intention. Because priming isn't a product, my friends. It's a technique. Just focus on that.
02:22Priming is how you prepare your skin for makeup. Priming, the word primer and setting sprays have
02:28been stolen by the industry of makeup to sell you product. I will never make a primer. You might see
02:36me make something that has the word primer in it, but it will not be as you know a primer.
02:39Not because
02:40I hate primers. I'm not like the anti-primer police. I just don't think that they fix longevity
02:45in makeup. I think the key is you and being intuitive about what's on your face before the
02:50makeup. So let's do a little, little test. I'm gonna do, this is a good example. This is one of
02:57the
02:57most dewy, sheeny foundations that exists. This is the Ilia Skin Tint in just the shade
03:04Bom Bom ST5. Taking a little brush, priming it into the brush, applying it to my face.
03:11Oh, one second. I will say there's nothing wrong with this if your skin is severely, severely,
03:15severely dry and you need all of this emollient and all of this slip. But all of these products
03:21underneath this skin tint from Ilia, for example, or all of these textures of skincare that I have
03:27underneath all of these are gonna lessen the longevity of this because your skin should not be
03:31this wet and moist and juicy, sorry, before applying a skin tint. You should put a skin tint
03:37on just over SPF, if that. And if your skin's oily, you should just be going for SPF and concealer
03:42where you need it. If your skin's dry, then you might not look this oily. I'm normal to combination.
03:46Okay, now comes for the side that I do agree with, and I think this method works for everybody.
03:52Little bit of concealer on a brush, start around the nose, start sweeping it under the eyes,
03:58really thinning it out and spreading it thin. Eyelids if you want them, a little bit above the
04:03brow, a little bit around the mouth. I haven't dipped back into the pot yet because there is
04:08still product to be stretched across my face. Okay. What is helping stretch this product is the
04:20skincare and the fact that it's a full coverage concealer. Now I am going to go back in a little
04:25bit for a tiny bit more. You don't need to prime the brush when the product is a solid, FYI.
04:32Kind of primes for you. Now this is going to last way longer than this side. You can see already
04:42that
04:42the shine level on this side looks like I've just dripped oil over my face. This side's shiny,
04:47but it's a little bit less so, and it's just more dewy and radiant. Now the recipe to make this
04:52side
04:52actually last because this side isn't got a chance. Here's powder. Powder brush, a little bit of that.
04:58Tapping it where you need it, where you know that your skin is going to get shiny throughout the day.
05:03For me, it's always around the eyes and nose and the mouth, bordering all of the makeup that I'm about
05:08to put on and the lip colours that I'm about to put on and so on and so forth. Now
05:12I don't disagree
05:13with using this amount of skincare on your routine. I think I would use this amount of skincare on my
05:17routine at night so that I at least still feel like I've got a replenishment routine,
05:24but I just wouldn't wear all of this under makeup. You see what I'm saying? Let me just powder this
05:31side just so that you can see. Like it's better, but it's taking much more powder
05:40to become matte-ish and have longevity. And again, there's nothing fundamentally wrong with
05:49this side. If you like it, it's just not going to last as good as that side. Period.
05:55The message is, if your makeup isn't lasting very long, assess what's under your makeup. It's like
06:00an analogy that I use often is, if you go outside on a hot day wearing a vest, then wearing
06:08an
06:08over shirt, then wearing like a button-up, then wearing a hoodie or a sweater, and then a leather
06:14coat, what's going to happen? You're going to sweat. Putting all of these different textures under your
06:19makeup is going to just make your makeup sweat off. Also, mixing these two things together, which are
06:25technically like-minded textures, are going to sort of clash. This is too wet for this. For this, in my
06:31opinion, you need something a little bit more like this, or like this. Like a little bit thick
06:37to go with thin. Like thin, liquidy, rich, emollient, glossy, textured skincare needs a slightly more matte
06:44consistency to conceal it or foundation. They don't have to go over your whole face like a mask.
06:48You can be very specific and strategic of where you place it, even if you've got acne
06:51or breakouts. But that's the message. I hope that was helpful. Pop any questions below. I will do my best
06:56to answer them. I'm jet lagging hard, so I'll be up at five o'clock in the morning, and um,
07:01see you in a bit.
07:02Also, just as an example, this side still has a little bit more shine control than this side, and I
07:07powdered it less than five minutes ago.
