01:26Morning, Henry.
01:28Sorry to disturb.
01:30Fleur wants this all clear.
01:32You know those parakeet flowers of yours?
01:34Mm-hmm.
01:35Not loving that spot.
01:36They'll stay where they are.
01:38Poor things, wilting away.
01:40I always say gardening is all about balance.
01:45Here I was thinking it was about enjoying peace and quiet.
01:48Or connecting with something bigger than yourself.
01:52Go on, where do you plant them?
01:54Well, they do best in parcel shade.
01:57Plenty of morning light, but avoid the afternoon sun.
02:00Don't want them burning out.
02:02I shall bear that in mind.
02:03Back, sir.
02:05Drop everything.
02:06I've had 30 kilos of grog clay delivered,
02:09and it's baking in the sun.
02:10Be a darling and shift it for me, would you,
02:12before it turns to concrete?
02:15Hello, neighbor.
02:16Quiet morning.
02:18Wasp.
02:19Friday, 9.30, as usual.
02:20If you're late again, I'm leaving without you.
02:22Oh, you are cruel.
02:24Can you remind me to pick up starfruit?
02:26I've been experimenting with my smoothies.
02:29Right, Baxter, let's go.
02:30When the muse is upon me,
02:32I must strike while the clay is still soft.
02:35until I am.
02:39I am.
02:39I am.
02:50I am.
02:55I understand.
02:57I am.
02:58I am.
03:02I beloved moment.
03:05I am.
03:05I am.
03:10Fancy a cold glass of homemade lemonade?
03:12I'd kill for one.
03:30I think it came from down there.
03:33Did you come for an Henry's?
03:36Henry!
03:38Henry!
03:40I hope you don't...
03:42Henry!
03:44Henry!
03:46Henry?
03:47No!
03:53Who did this?
04:29Why do we do this?
04:31Who did that?
04:32That's good...
04:34jeans down relax your faces in Paris we say you don't take a photograph you create it okay
04:48you're really into this just makes a change to be in a photo where my head won't get cut off
04:54every family photo ever you see me from the shoulders don't shall we try your hand on your
05:04hip less like you've stepped on the sea urchin more like you just heard the rums on the house
05:13morning commissioner where is inspector Wilson we did try sir he said he's only here short term so
05:25didn't think it was his place also apparently football is on and presumably the prime rate drops
05:32every time his team plays one can only hope sir the whole point of this initiative is to make the
05:42wider community feel that we are all in this for them to strengthen their trust in us how are we
05:54going to begin to do that when our senior detective can't be bothered to turn up for a team photograph
06:02he better make it to the launch this evening um I should get that excuse me sir
06:16come on just give me the second half it's not even a big game
06:26what the commissioner is seriously not happy you missed your close-up can't they just photoshop me
06:32in something tells me he's not going to go for that is that what you came here for no there's
06:37been a
06:37shooting up in the hills stupid Island victim's name is Henry Ashby originally from the UK moved
06:56to st. Marie 10 years ago what else do we know his neighbor Fleur Edwards and her gardener Baxter
07:04Turton heard the shot around 10 30 when they arrived the doors were wide open and they saw
07:09someone on a white moped speeding off through the trees miss Edwards said she saw the same moped outside
07:15the house last night even got a registration number sergeant Fletcher is on the case mud on the floor
07:25no sign of a forced entry so either the victim let the killer in or the killer let themself in
07:34from the garden
07:35shot Henry and pegged it back the same way that's a serious tattoo boss
07:40do I feel like I've seen it somewhere before yeah it's Pegasus oh the flying horse mutant thing
07:48something like that and the bloke riding him is Bellerophon it's part of the parachute regiment in
07:53Sigma may mine had one he said the army trained him for anything which is why now runs a soft
08:00plane
08:01Croydon yeah he might be a military man so let's check that out shall we 10 years on this island
08:10and
08:10not even a vase in the gaff a big read as well yeah man had a lot of books
08:22interesting what is this is a meticulously organized library and he's filed his books alphabetically by
08:29author reading has never really been my thing you know but if I have to read a book I usually
08:36start at
08:36the last page first you know what I mean swear of the sad endings hang on there's one missing
08:44this section is Charles Dickens novels uh Pickwick papers our mutual friend David Copperfield etc
08:53there's one missing
08:55which one is it
08:58I think it's tailored to cities yeah it's definitely tailored to cities where can that have got to
09:05officer Rose check the bedside table yeah
09:08he might have lent it to someone or even lost it
09:13maybe
09:15nothing in the bedroom sir
09:25I was taking up my boots then we both heard it it's terrifying I could feel it in my bones
09:33something awful had happened we rushed straight over but we were too late next thing I know I heard
09:40ties kicking up dirt couldn't get a look at the registration plate but they were wearing a helmet
09:45and a black top and you said you think you saw the same moped last night I'm often at working
09:53dates from my studio I can see Henry's someone was outside lurking peering through his windows at
10:01first I thought maybe it was a delivery driver wrong address but something felt off so I jotted the
10:10number plate down in my sketchbook how long have you lived out here three months long enough to
10:16adore it I needed space for my work to find inspiration and look of course when I arrived the garden
10:26was an
10:26absolute jungle hired me on the spot said the weeds were choking her genius and Henry
10:34was he a good neighbor he kept kept to himself didn't seem to want to get close still he drove
10:41you
10:41into town on Fridays right big shop day that's the only thing on his calendar he offered I may have
10:48mentioned how tiresome I find driving having done it for years in London and there's no jubilee line on
10:54St. Marie right quite anyone else ever stop by not that I know of Flo is right mr. asby wasn't
11:05much for
11:06company preferred books yeah speaking of which did he ever lend you any tale of two cities maybe Dickens
11:17inspector inspector we'll be in touch thank you
11:27so that mopeds from a rental outfit mop and glory just spoke to the owner Winston bit of a relic
11:34but
11:34he keep our good records you know bottom line uh drivers a tourist from the UK arrived a week ago
11:40but he provided an ID and a local address Craig Pinnock an accountant from Nunhead in London
11:52Craig Pinnock want to step away from the bike please
11:59so how can I help you detectives there's not a problem is there we need to establish your whereabouts
12:05this morning yeah fatal shooting just a few miles from here a man called Henry Ashby was murdered you
12:13know him well no never heard of the guy that's funny a moped just like the one you were scrubbing
12:22clean
12:22outside was used to flee the scene we also have evidence placing that same white moped and its
12:29driver outside the victim's house last night what sorry oh no there must be some mistake I um no I
12:37didn't shoot anyone how do we clear this up let's start from the beginning yeah last night why was your
12:48moped scene outside the victim's villa up in the hills right okay um so I may have driven past that
12:56house last night but only because I took a wrong turn I was um I was looking for a property
13:01a villa
13:02that I'd seen online and um I thought there might be somebody in to point me in the right direction
13:07but
13:07no answer you were looking for a house for sale after dark yes I mean it was supposed to have
13:16beautiful sunset views and um well I'm looking to buy out here yeah remote accounting less stress so you
13:23were at the victim's villa but you never interacted with him no no absolutely not what about in the
13:29morning it was definitely my moped that was seen our witnesses didn't get a registration but the
13:37description matches and the rider was wearing a black top okay so I can see now why you might
13:46think it was me but it wasn't so it was just coincidence someone else was there this morning
13:52dressed just like you on a similar white moped outside the same property you were visiting last
13:58night must be that's bizarre isn't it but I can assure you detectives that I was nowhere near that
14:06house then where were you 10 30 when the shooting happens well in coconut water there's a street
14:13bender and I'd stopped to make a work call felt thirsty and this was definitely 10 30 where was this
14:20Crescent Cove the opposite side of the island to the crime scene convenient convenient now look you've
14:30got the wrong person I didn't shoot anyone check my phone we will thank you for your help we'll be
14:39in
14:39touch if we need anything further well the vendor confirms he served Craig this morning and he was on
14:45his phone the whole time that's why he remembers him Craig's client also confirms they spoke at 15 30 UK
14:52time which is 10 30 here they spoke for five minutes and it all tallies with the call log on
14:57Craig's phone it has to be Craig that shot Henry Ashby his clothing was identified and the bike and he
15:05was outside Henry's the night before and you saw it was like at the villa he was all over the
15:09place but he has an
15:10alibi for the time of the murder sir so if it was him then how did he do it
15:30Craig's definitely holding back so if we don't yet know how he managed to shoot Henry Ashby let's focus
15:36on his motive why did he do it sergeant Fletcher what have you got for us inspector a bit of
15:48a
15:48development at Henry's seems there's a little more to him than we first thought
15:57a spy I'm telling you he has to be a spy Henry was definitely mixed up in something murky surveillance
16:04perhaps that's why a hundred percent I'm talking code names you know drop-off location secret
16:12hand shares exploding pens his military records came in Henry rose to the ranks quickly before a
16:18voluntary discharge 15 years ago then nothing no paper trail no fixed address vanished until
16:28st. Marie what about his phone zero phone calls the man had nobody checking in I mean it's like you
16:35just totally ghosted life and his laptop lock down tight but I've asked the lab and they're checking it
16:43what's his bank account stocked living off-grid with serious money behind him makes you wonder who
16:51or what was he running from I've got a mate in organized crime command I'll give her a call see
16:57if what we found triggers anything her in but let's keep looking into Craig Pinnock now we know that the
17:03victim isn't what he seems there must be a reason Craig wanted him dead it's time we headed over to
17:10the
17:10commissioner's launch ready sir I'll catch you up I got this phone call tonight first okay see you there
17:21don't be mates you know commissioner access to say a few words about what st. Marie means to us and
17:34I
17:34was like man I mean where do I start you know so what did you go for officer Rose's top
17:4110 favorite
17:43places to fill your belly okay do you think that's quite what the commissioner hmm you know what that
17:52is perfect you're right big crowds it tends to happen when you offer food snacks inspector's cutting it
18:05fine we want to be in his booth when he arrives it's a wonderful turnout don't you think what all
18:14the
18:14phone calls if only every idea came together so smoothly I should have escorted him here myself
18:26love in medical equipment no focus on your speech and at number two we have the grill bar you know
18:36one
18:36with a sweet sweet corey board the one where the the the chef sings love songs are the cooks I'm
18:43actually thinking about starting my own food tour so at the end or pretend best that we can thank you
18:49thank you thank you for that
18:54officer rules and thank you for coming everyone tonight is a new beginning since returning to st. Marie I have
19:10been made aware I need to recommit to reassure you that this island
19:20still matters to me to us and you it's people matter even more this is the first step rebuilding
19:33trust strengthening the relationship between myself and my team and you the people we serve
19:47no answer we will proceed with a q and a as planned first questions please yes I've got a question
19:58why did the detective not bother showing up
20:01yes yes yes um well um um actually commissioner um can I take this one of course
20:27d.i. wilson's not here because he's working on a murder case and knowing him he's probably so deep
20:36into it he hasn't realized the time but that's because he cares about his work all of us standing
20:46here care so much about what we do it's it's not just about solving crimes it's about doing it right
20:54and that's why we show up because it's it's not just what we do it's it's who we are
21:12thank you now well done next question so to sergeant thomas they're busting it
21:24look look who arrives just in time for the cleanup look i'm late i know but the good news is
21:30there's
21:31no more speeches but the bad news no more snacks the commissioner left 10 minutes ago and he said
21:36he's very disappointed but not surprised direct quotes stop talking look i've got some major intel
21:43on our victim all right i mean it all makes total sense now the military background the fake passports
21:49living off grid i mean i should have worked this out before worked out what he was a spy no
21:54officer
21:55rose henry ashby was a professional hit man
22:04so multiple passports were found in the victim's house
22:08why is it so hard to get a book out of the library inspector
22:12you do still work here yeah commissioner look i'm sorry about last night but i was doing what i
22:19thought was best for the case disappearing in the name of duty is still disappearing i made my
22:26expectations very clear yes commissioner i'm sorry it won't happen again you might also offer thanks
22:34to ds thomas recovered for your absence with greater plumb thank you ds thomas right are we done no
22:45you will make amends with some community outreach work this is desiree one of our most senior
22:53residents was in attendance last night she told me she was in need of a little police assistance
23:00i said would pay her a visit that is her address
23:11a tale of two cities have you read it before i know but i used to work weekends with a
23:19guy who
23:19ran dickens tours like all his best redemption hope the destructive nature of revenge
23:27not a million miles from this case um ds thomas was updating me your victim is a hitman yeah organized
23:35crime linked henry ashby to a shelved case he's the prime suspect in a historic hit job in putney
23:42made to look like a break-in the victim was a shop owner with ties to loan sharks henry made
23:47it look
23:48like a break-in the theory goes henry's the guy you call him when things get heavy there's other suspected
23:53hits but the evidence is non-existent i went through the victim's bank statements commissioner
23:58there were years of large cash deposits no employer just drops why did they never catch him i expect
24:05because he was good at his job all they had on the guy was some grainy cctv footage and the
24:10description
24:10of a very distinctive tattoo pegasus no i still feel like i've seen that tattoos somewhere before you
24:17know i'm just not sure where
24:22so i did some digging into our suspect craig pinock turns out craig's a widower this was his wife lucy
24:31pinock died 10 years ago on the 2nd of july so she was shot a home breaking gone wrong no
24:40suspect no
24:41motive just a robbery turned fatal two robberies two deaths same mo well that's no coincidence and
24:49here three days before lucy's death the last cash drop so if henry was a contract killer and lucy pinock
24:58was one of his last jobs then craig pinock suddenly has really good motive to want henry ashby dead
25:09they were trying to scare me who was loan sharks i'd started gambling and um told myself i could get
25:18out of control but i owed so much money and they were starting to hound me when they came to
25:23collect
25:23what you owed them you didn't have it and your wife was collateral i hate myself every day for what
25:32they did to her for what i caused but you didn't tell the police must have been eating you up
25:40alive
25:40inside the shame the guilt the rage and so you decided you'd hunt down henry ashby yourself i knew
25:48that the police would never find him because they didn't know the full truth that it was a professional
25:53hit not an easy job i mean that the trail was cold wasn't it for years the killer was hiding
26:00out here
26:01on saint marie how did you find henry well people i owed money to i did some digging eventually i
26:10found out who they paid to do their dirty work so you knew exactly who henry was and you came
26:18anyway
26:20if there was a chance i could look him in the eye get him to answer for what he did
26:24so revenge that was
26:26your plan you knew exactly whose house you're at that night okay look i admit i went there to
26:31confront him but i never laid eyes on him he wasn't there you went back the next morning to finish
26:37the
26:37job no i've already told you this i was on the other side of the island look whoever went there
26:43that morning to shoot him it was someone else it wasn't me something wrong officer rose or are you
26:56just exercising your thumb muscles hey i'm working actually had to scroll through this group chat to
27:01find this video but i did briefly get sidetracked by this chicken we're in carnival please beat around
27:06the bush some more officer rose sir that tattoo you know how i thought i recognized it from somewhere
27:12boom three months ago henry saved a woman who was caught up in a riptide out at turtle bear
27:19he did no photos no press but somebody filmed it and the video went viral the man went in twice
27:28once for the old lady once for the little dog i printed these off you can see the pegasus tattoo
27:35in
27:35boat so we have a trained assassin who saves poodles in his spare time but it means literally
27:41anybody looking for henry ashby could have seen that video and come to the island for revenge all
27:48right so maybe someone else on a white moped wearing a black top did go to henry ashby's place that
27:57morning and shoot him okay we're gonna have to check all routes to the woods behind henry's place and
28:02any road cameras along the way we should also look into who else knew henry mm-hmm got it
28:26the police are gonna want to talk to me but i don't want you to worry
28:38still no joy with the moped no sign of anyone else on a white bike who could have possibly shot
28:43henry
28:45what's about fisherman's way it's the fastest route to the house the only camera along there has been
28:50busted for weeks so it's the perfect time for lunch cold case hot prawns oh no seriously you have to
28:58try
28:58one of these captain crustacean fire cracker prawns but thank you but if you want real flavor oh you
29:07got to go to old man baptize behind the cricket ground my father used to take us after school
29:12oh baptize had this secret marinade legendary all right take your time they're spicy
29:23my man's got a little bit of a cake
29:27oh are you okay all right if we're speedy we'll make it to old man baptize before he shots we
29:34need milk
29:39interesting
29:47listen i didn't get to say this properly before but thank you for covering for me last night
29:56whatever it was you did or said that's okay sir i uh
30:03i know you're maybe not feeling like yourself at the moment yeah well um
30:11it's uh it's not been the best few weeks finding her brother then and going away again
30:17but you know mate i don't let those things get to me right right no sure you don't what well
30:30we haven't seen you much in the last week sir all you do is stay in your shack and watch
30:36football
30:37i like football i know but it's a lot of football yeah well there's a lot of games listen let's
30:48just
30:48focus on the case what have you got actually those weekly shopping trips henry used to take
30:58he was pulling out 500 like clockwork that's some major coinage for groceries and guess who was
31:06depositing the exact same amount into their account the same day every week fleur baxter
31:15henry was bankrolling fleur's gardener why well doesn't look like it was for fertilizer
31:23uh harsh money maybe but the payment stopped one was due friday never came
31:34when a couple of days later henry's dead
31:44it's true
31:49henry gave me money but you never thought to mention it
31:56why was he paying you he said it wasn't charity he had money sitting there doing nothing we're not
32:05talking about a few bobby mr turpin this is thousands it sounds a lot to me like leverage extortion no
32:13no
32:13that's not what it was i would never he stops paying you you get angry decide to punish him and
32:18that's my son rio he was diagnosed with hudskins lymphoma
32:26the card did early but it's still turning everything upside down
32:30the bills are waiting trying to keep things normal for him i was barely holding it together
32:37so then henry started helping paying for treatments wouldn't take no for an answer
32:42and last week rio got the all clear
32:47and the final thing henry said to me was that he didn't want a penny back
32:58do you get the sense henry was trying to atone for his actions saving that woman and her dog
33:05paying for baxter's kids health care
33:07i mean for a man who killed for a living he seemed to suddenly find a moral code in life
33:14detectives sorry there's something i need to tell you i wasn't sure whether to say anything
33:21flo's been great to me really but it was a few weeks ago
33:28flo is pretty out of it i tried to help her out with the sun and men like him always
33:35think they
33:35can get away with it she started muttering about henry she wasn't making a lot of sense
33:42i doubt she meant anything by it but it's been playing on my mind
33:49i told you there was a shot cut along fisherman's way i'm pretty sure you brought the stone barrier
33:54no no thank you for the memories oh i'll never know if it lived up to his hype
34:06sorry sarge makes me realize how long i've been away from saint marie
34:12come back expecting everything to be the same but things change right you don't regret coming back
34:18do you sarge no i couldn't stay in jamaica anymore it was right to leave do you miss him
34:29your ex
34:30no
34:32it just doesn't feel the same here you know that's all just getting used to it
34:42right come on let's go back to the station
35:08let's try the boat
35:14miss edwards oh hello apologies for the mess
35:22they come as a pair inspector
35:26not really my taste to be honest what he really means is he's not much of um an arts collector
35:36please they're fragile like your relationship with henry yeah your gardener told us about your
35:42drunken threats
35:44who knew i'd hired chatty kathy what did you mean when you said men like him always get away with
35:52it
35:53he tried it on with me didn't like being rejected it sounded like you wanted to punish him for more
35:59than just making a pass at you
36:03what aren't you telling us miss edwards all i'm guilty of detectives is bruising henry's delicate
36:11ego i don't believe you i think you knew exactly who he was didn't you i haven't the foggiest idea
36:19what you're talking about i saw someone on a moped outside henry's place that's who killed him
36:24did you ever catch them inspector i'd sleep much better knowing you did us too
36:31we'll be in touch
36:41first story isn't sitting right with me but she had an alibi baxter was with her in her house when
36:47henry ashby was shot and baxter's a can't check salt i spoke to the hospital everything he said about
36:54his son real is true which brings us back to craig pinnock who has motive coming out of his ears
36:59but he also has an alibi for the murder so what you're saying is the three people who could have
37:05shot henry ashby couldn't have shot henry ashby exactly that inspector one laptop lab fresh fully
37:15decrypted now that's more like it i don't think so inspector you have somewhere to be if you haven't
37:21forgotten which i sense you have mrs desiree how about i give you a lift there make sure you don't
37:28get
37:28lost maybe i should take this good luck inspector inspector
37:44i bump into mrs desiree in church every now and then she makes the most superb ginger cake
37:55good for her you seem confused inspector well it's just that i thought you said she needed police
38:03assistance fixing her gate that's a handyman's job perhaps but if you hadn't realized the reason i asked
38:14you to do this was in the hope that you might learn something from it yeah yeah i figured as
38:22much
38:22going that extra mile for the community improving police relationships etc etc actually
38:29this was more about you than my community initiative
38:36me inspector i know the last week or so has been tough on you and might have had you even
38:43thinking
38:43about why you stayed on on this island maybe look i'm not gonna lie okay now that solomon and i
38:53have parted
38:55ways yeah it has had me wondering which is perfectly understandable but hiding away avoiding people not
39:06being part of being part of this island's life you're missing out yeah yeah i hear you but you know
39:15fixing
39:15some old lady's gate you really think that's the answer oh yes thank you i'll be right with you
39:25the answer to your question i suppose you'll find out inspector
39:38don't i get any iced tea
39:47speed in tickets where them ketchup fisherman's way must have been when we were going to old man baptize
39:55i thought you said that camera was broken it's been taped off for months
40:05if it's working then maybe that's the route the killer took let's go
40:15inspector
40:20mrs desiree's gate bit back
40:23ah so
40:27spent half the night going through henry's laptop he was researching fleur social media
40:33old exhibitions personal records it doesn't sound like a crush no he was looking for a connection
40:40and now i know to watch
40:44fleur and lucy pinnock were housemates same university seemed super close lucy was using her maiden name
40:53so three months ago fleur moves in next door to the man who killed her best friend and now he's
41:00dead
41:03she was like a sister must have been a shark when she died
41:10it didn't make sense a robbery nothing really taken and she'd never be caught up in anything dangerous
41:18so what did you do the day before it happened lucy told me she thought a man was following her
41:27it spooked her she she described him his height his build said he had a tattoo a winged horse on
41:36his forearm i told the police they dropped it but you never forgot and then years later you saw a
41:45news
41:45story henry leaving a woman and her dog all of a sudden there he was so you tracked him down
41:54to
41:54saint marie casually moved in next door and then made nice i wanted to understand how someone like that
41:59could keep on living now when you couldn't understand you killed him in case you'd forgotten
42:05inspector i was making lemonade something i was about to offer you but i'm thinking better of it
42:10hang on so you're telling me the man who robbed lucy of her life was on your doorstep and you
42:15did
42:16zilch of course i wanted him to pay to see the shame in his eyes when he realized i knew
42:22who he was
42:22what he'd done but i never got the chance i didn't kill him lucy's husband is out here too
42:32craig's on saint marie bit of a coincidence don't you think you two turning up on the same island
42:39you knew he was here okay um the night before henry died i did see someone on a moped outside
42:49his house
42:51it looked like craig my heart almost stopped i told myself if it was him whatever he was up to
43:00i wanted nothing to do with it and then henry turned up dead i gave you the number plate hoping
43:09and
43:10praying that i was mistaken and that craig wasn't involved
43:18he's at the center of everything just never where we need him to be respecter you're gonna
43:23want to see this but we just checked the speed camera on fisherman's way and it caught something
43:30okay so this is about six minutes away from the victim's house 10 21 the morning of the murder
43:36just wait for it boom right there sir guy in a blacktop on a white moped with the same registration
43:42plate as the one craig pinnock hired so craig pinnock did it we now know he drove to the victim's
43:48house
43:48at the time of the murder wait why did the street vendor say he was buying coconut water when it
43:56happened okay let's play this out ds thomas you be the victim over there please um officer rose you be
44:06craig just there and sergeant fletcher you be the vendor right uh phone
44:13okay go yes bro just grabbing a coconut water now in it yeah i'll send over them figure soon
44:20definitely not gonna shoot nobody today remind me never to take your undercover
44:27that's it it's simple craig wasn't actually on a call he was pretending like officer rose was just now
44:35he made sure he was seen and heard so that when we asked the vendor we were told the story
44:40craig
44:41wanted us to hear not the truth the vendor never knew the time only that craig was on the phone
44:48confirmation by us exactly the real call was made at 10 30 but from somewhere else craig shot henry
44:56rode a short distance made the call as planned at 10 30. finally his alibi has crumbled
45:05i'm telling you i'm innocent you lied about your alibi and they want us to believe you okay yes i
45:13haven't been telling the truth but come on please you have to give me one more chance
45:1830 seconds 30 seconds okay um so yes i went to henry's house and i took a gun i was
45:26working
45:26myself up to killing him okay i admit it but but then i heard a gunshot okay and i thought
45:32he'd see
45:32me i thought maybe he was shooting at me but i didn't stick around to find out i just i
45:36i got on
45:37the moped and i and i and i went away and i and i i didn't look back and this
45:40gone you're gone where
45:42is it now well i chucked it in the sea look i can show you exactly where please you have
45:49to believe
45:49me it wasn't me
45:52i believe it even though he's repeatedly lied to us throughout this investigation
46:04yep even though he admits to being at the victim's house at the time of the murder with a gun
46:09and a
46:10motive yep so if you think he didn't know it sir then who did i haven't a scooby because it
46:17also
46:17can't be either of these and i'll tell you what's really bugging me about all this the victim's copy
46:23of this book was missing from his bookshelf and it hasn't turned up anywhere during the investigation
46:28so where is it wait you read the whole book in the last few days well i just speed read
46:34it so what
46:35was the story about well basically it's about a guy who tries to make things right and the only way
46:41he feels he can do that is if he well wait a minute
46:50because if you look at it that way that changes the whole perspective on everything
46:56a tale of two cities redemption hope the destructive nature of revenge do you get the sense henry was
47:03trying to atone for his actions they're trying to scare me who was loan sharks i'd started gambling
47:08and i had so much money and they were starting to hound me it's my son real he was diagnosed
47:15with
47:15hudskins lymphoma so then henry started helping paying for treatments wouldn't take no for an answer
47:22if i have to read a book i usually start at the last page first serve the sad endings which
47:28would mean
47:29you worked it out i have and if i'm right about all this in a funny way the answer's been
47:37there the whole
47:37time the book yeah i think i know where it might be and that explains everything
47:46thanks charlie appreciate it
47:51ready boss
48:08second time look here
48:29a book
48:34a gun
48:39and a bullet
48:52let's start with this shall we
48:55a tale of two cities
48:57a story about redemption and sacrifice
49:02and at the back of this book
49:04henry ashby left a story of his own
49:08the main character in this story he dies in the end
49:11but he gave up his life to atone for what he'd done for a while we were looking for a
49:18killer
49:18that was never there
49:20because henry ashby
49:22he wasn't murdered he wasn't murdered he took his own life
49:27henry's final words a suicide note addressed to you miss edwards written in the back of the book
49:34but also a confession to lucy pinnock's murder
49:40but why would henry take his own life
49:43and why now
49:46the past caught the past caught up with him
49:52the past caught up with him
50:16henry hadn't tried it on with you at all had he what was eating away at you was the thought
50:21that this man
50:22had got away with murdering your best friend
50:24so you insisted craig fly to saint marie
50:30henry was on to you wasn't he
50:33something felt different
50:35he seemed
50:37off with me drove in silence
50:40so you had to strike before he fled the island or
50:43did something even worse
50:45and together you orchestrated your revenge
50:49the plan was simple
50:51craig you would arrive at henry's place just before 10 30.
50:55you both arranged your alibis
50:57fleur you knew baxter would be at yours for his shift
51:01and craig you arranged a work call that you'd take at 10 30 after you shot henry
51:07then made out that you were buying coconut water at the same time
51:10but then something unexpected happened didn't it
51:14because henry worked out what you had in store for him
51:17craig when you sculpted out henry's the night before his death
51:21we believe henry as a trained killer was watching you
51:26your actions craig tipped henry off that his time was up
51:31the past the guilt it was all coming back to haunt him
51:37and as a man who lived in control he chose the only thing he felt he could still command
51:42the ending to his own story
51:47it's not the right way but in his mind it was the only option
51:52so sometime before 10 30 the following morning henry shot himself
51:59fleur you must have been confused had craig arrived early but when you found the body you also found
52:08the book and inside it something you weren't expecting the truth in a note left for you
52:18and once you'd read it you knew there and then that you couldn't let this die with him
52:22so you proceeded to stage a crime scene to make it look like henry had been murdered you took his
52:29gun
52:29the one thing he kept for protection given his past and you left the doors wide open
52:34you even scattered mud from the garden before firing a second gunshot at 10 30 from your kitchen
52:41breaking a plant pot and creating a false time of death
52:47a second bullet from a second gunshot which you recovered from your garden later that morning
52:53all that was left was to steer us toward the right culprit the moped number plate was smooth
53:00but why go to all that trouble
53:07her death haunted me most usually they had it coming but not her
53:15you see that's what's so heartbreaking about it isn't it craig because lucy was a real victim here
53:23and it's just as i suspected i spent my life following orders but this one was the cruelest
53:32your friend was an innocent woman and you should know the truth the hit was commissioned by her own
53:40husband you see the order didn't come from faceless loan sharks but from you you're the reason
53:51she's dead i'm sorry you've got this all wrong when will you finally stop lying you played the grieving
53:58husband seeking revenge when all you really wanted was silence you hired henry ashby a professional hit
54:06man to stage a botched armed robbery so you could cash in your wife's life insurance and pay off your
54:12gambling debts fleur i assume you held on to these the book the gun as your plan b in case
54:25your plot to
54:26stitch up craig was exposed you framed him for henry's murder because you couldn't go to the police
54:32without having to admit you and craig plan to kill henry so yeah this confession will ensure craig finally
54:43faces the murder charges for your best friend however i'm afraid your attempt to pervert the course of
54:50justice can't be overlooked craig pinnock i'm arresting you for conspiracies of murder
55:01death she loved you and you sentenced her to death i hope it haunts you for the rest of your
55:08life
55:28so as soon as mervyn arrives we'll be ready to go
55:32so as soon as mervyn arrives we'll be ready to go

56:18sorry i'm late commissioner i had a visitor mrs desiree dropped by she made me a cake
