00:00Oh, that's a good question.
00:02Who's the superheroes of our time?
00:04Yeah.
00:05Wow.
00:11Dribble, fake, shoot, miss.
00:14Dribble, fake, shoot, miss.
00:17Dribble, fake, shoot, miss.
00:19Dribble, fake, shoot, miss.
00:23Ball was our life.
00:25My brother and I always dreamt of becoming the greatest of all time.
00:29Oh, dad is a baller with a championship ring.
00:31That's inspirational enough.
00:34Broke basketball at the table.
00:35I'm about GPA, not NBA.
00:39Players and athletes are like actors.
00:42They need training.
00:44How did you train for your job?
00:46Oh, wow.
00:48Well, they sent me to this trainer named Chris Johnson.
00:56And Chris actually is a true life Chuck Bell, my character.
01:03And I didn't have a lot of time with him because it was a whole dispute about driving two hours
01:11a day.
01:11to get there.
01:14So once I finally got there, I wish I had started weeks prior.
01:19But training was like life.
01:22It was about fundamentals and the basics.
01:24You know, what about you?
01:26Yeah.
01:26Well, training has been years in the making.
01:29You know, we've been training as actors for years.
01:33Yeah.
01:34It's just years in the making.
01:36Chris Over also talks about superheroes.
01:39Who are the superheroes of our time?
01:43Oh.
01:43That's a good question.
01:45Who's the superheroes of our time?
01:47Yeah.
01:48Wow.
01:49Well, I would say any and everybody that's fighting for equal rights for African-Americans.
01:56I'll say that any and everybody, no names and names are superheroes.
02:01Thank you for what you do.
02:03I think the time of having one superhero in our lives is like we've passed that.
02:11It's about us becoming our own superheroes, you know, taking your life by the horns and
02:19going after what you want, you know, what you believe in and what you're passionate about.
02:23So I don't believe there's like one savior anymore.
02:26But yeah, that would be my answer.
02:31That's dope.
02:32That's layer.
02:34I think about superhero.
02:36I do think that we're in a, you know, culturally speaking.
02:41Like there's so many ways you can answer that question.
02:44But I think the superhero is when you understand, you know, it's like understanding and finding
02:53your voice.
02:54And, you know, as she said, you know, a superhero for me is a person who encourages me to be
03:03better.
03:04Again, it's a great question, but it's so layered.
03:07We didn't come at it from so many different angles.
03:10Crossover is based on the bestseller by Quim Alexander.
03:14Did you know him?
03:15And what impressed you?
03:17Oh, I like that.
03:20Quim May.
03:21I did not know Quim May beforehand.
03:26But what impressed me about him for me is he, well, his writing, of course, without him
03:32writing this book, we would not be here, right?
03:35His use of prose, you know, poetry.
03:38And I mean, that's impressive.
03:40But when I met him, he directly came over to me and made me feel 100% comfortable and supported.
03:49That was the biggest thing for me, having this Black man come over to me and say, listen,
03:54I am here for you.
03:56Whatever you need, I got you.
03:58Come to me.
03:58That was impressive to me.
04:01Wow.
04:02Yeah, I had never, I never heard of Quim May.
04:07Simply put, you know, in my academic background, it wasn't that extensive.
04:15And what I loved about Quim May, what I heard about him was that the kids that read the book,
04:22a lot of them didn't come from a book club or book reading culture, neither did I.
04:27And so that was one of the things that caught my eye.
04:30And when you hear Quim May speak, it was a delight to have someone in a creative space
04:37that had that many layers.
04:40You know, obviously, hip hop, hip hop for me means a lot.
04:44But when you see this man of color just eloquently and just poetically just speaking this poetry
04:53that has such integrity, it just makes you feel good.
04:57So I'm sort of, I'm sort of giving the homage to Quim May.
05:03And that's how it was when I met him.
05:05It was more, it was the silhouette of the man that impressed me.
05:09We go hard, just like we always had.
05:12No matter what, you're a net tied together.
05:15Let's rock this!
05:16We got this!
05:17Let's rock this!
05:19We got this!
05:20Let's rock this!
05:21We got this!
05:21We got this!
05:22We got this!
05:26We got this!
05:27We got this!
05:27We got this!
