00:00Hello. Hi, nice to meet you.
00:07The game is changing. My job is to ensure the stability of UBA.
00:13This is a battle for the soul of the universe.
00:17Markard says that this is a battle for the soul of the universe.
00:22Is it Corey talking or Dr. Manhattan?
00:29I don't think Dr. Manhattan cared as much about the soul of the universe.
00:33I think he was much more interested in the inner workings of a star.
00:37I think humanity was a bit boring to him.
00:42For Corey, humanity is everything.
00:45And there is no universe outside one's own personal moral ethics center.
00:53And any expression of that in a very high level, like somebody who's the president of a major broadcast network
01:04or the CEO of a multinational conglomerate, they have a lot of power and authority to try to describe a
01:17personal moral ethic.
01:18And I think Corey takes that very seriously.
01:21You look almost like Lucifer.
01:23I can't disagree.
01:25I think that part of the interest in the storytelling was whether or not Corey, with all of his power,
01:35was an agent of positive change, an agent of chaos, or an agent of evil.
01:43And I think to that end, the entire design department from costume, makeup, hair, they were maybe always playing with
01:58that a little bit.
01:59So the audience would never know for certain whether or not Corey's motivations could be trusted.
02:05I think it makes for a really good story.
02:07I think internally, Corey probably brings that upon himself because he likes the power that goes with people not knowing
02:15whether he's good or bad.
02:16And that way he can play sides against each other.
02:19And for him, it's really about power dynamics.
02:23I'm in Venice for the film festival and here there's a movie, Lost Illusions, which is an adaption of Balzac's
02:35Lost Illusions.
02:36That book speaks about journalism.
02:39It's set in the 200 years ago, but the problems about journalism are the same.
02:47And he says, I think about the ones who have to find the strength after the disenchantment.
02:55How can we find the strength after the disenchantment?
03:00Well, that's a great point.
03:02I revert to the simple notion that there's no other choice, that every single day each of us has to
03:12wake up and try to find some joy, some level of importance, some meaning for that minute, that hour, that
03:23day.
03:23And the slow accumulation of those is what adds up to a life, the notion that we're going to be
03:32able to wake up and discover a world that's without the kinds of pressures and disorganization and, frankly, pitfalls that
03:49we're presented with in a way that
03:54is very unique right now, there's no evidence to support that that's a possibility.
04:02So in the face of that, all you can do is put one foot in front of the other.
04:07And my personal view is that when you are putting one foot in front of the other, you slowly notice
04:15there are people around you who are doing the same thing and that you are all collectively on this march.
04:21The march of humanity towards progress.
04:24And it's actually that community of people that you're around that gives you meaning.
04:30OK, thank you so much.
04:33Amazing work.
04:34Bye.
04:34Bye.
04:37Bye.
04:41Bye.
04:41Bye.
