00:00When it comes to the Spanish costas, us Brits all have our favourites.
00:05We love Costa Blanca!
00:07We love Costa Nelson!
00:09Better to all!
00:10You've been bennied.
00:12But whichever we prefer, with over 300 days of that glorious sunshine a year,
00:16it sure beats the cold and grey of the old UK.
00:21Ah, this is a lie.
00:22Living that dream life can be blooming hard graft.
00:26My life, you're right.
00:28Stress level, through the roof.
00:31But at the end of the working day...
00:33Girl power, girl power, come on Sam.
00:35Forward.
00:36Booyah!
00:37The quality of life on the costas...
00:42...is priceless.
00:43Cheers!
00:45Peace and love, cheers.
00:46That's why there will always be...
00:48Espana!
00:50We love it!
00:51Olé!
00:52The weather.
00:53The boys.
00:54The wife being happy.
00:56Bargain-loving Brits in the sun.
01:00Today on the costas...
01:04Excuse me.
01:05March Day of the Dead party is in danger of deflating.
01:09To say I'm a magician, I am rubbish at balloons.
01:14Let's have a look.
01:16There's a lovely heart.
01:18Pebble artist Jenny is looking for a heart of stone.
01:21I've got a load of mermaids all making these hearts for me.
01:26And fitness freak Benzie is feeling the burn.
01:30My average heart rate was 119.
01:32119 is a fat burning heart rate.
01:45That's my mince for the chilli.
01:49Performing duo Matt and his wife Alana live in rural Campania near Malaga.
01:55Steak for the fajitas.
01:58This couple are used to the razzle-dazzle of putting on a show.
02:02But tonight, it's at Hope.
02:04You've got to get these in the fridge now.
02:06These are your favourites.
02:09Today we're going to have a Day of the Dead party.
02:12So we've come to the end of our season now, haven't we?
02:15So this is kind of pretty much a season-finished party as well for us, isn't it?
02:21The Day of the Dead is a Spanish and Mexican celebration
02:24welcoming back souls of the ancestors.
02:30It's a big day in Spain, isn't it, the Day of the Dead?
02:33Most people get their day off.
02:34It's a celebration of the Dead, all remembering the people that have passed away.
02:40It's a flavour.
02:42And their love of a party brought the couple together.
02:45We met up in Salou.
02:47We were working for an entertainment company.
02:48I was a magician.
02:49Alana was an entertainer.
02:50And it ended up that me and Alana got put in the same apartment together.
02:54And Alana instantly fell in love with me, I think.
02:57That's how it went, isn't it?
02:58That's definitely not true, no.
03:00Matt had literally, like, bright yellow bumblebee hair at the time.
03:03And I phoned my mum saying that I wanted to go home
03:08because I'd been put in an apartment with a weird magician.
03:12Love at first sight.
03:15But Matt's spell worked in the end.
03:17The couple have been together for 14 years.
03:19And they've conjured up two children, Darcy Rose and Harley Ray.
03:24That's not the only magic this duo made happen.
03:27Not quite as tight with that one, if you don't mind.
03:29Yeah, that's...that's...that's pretty tight!
03:34When Matt's not wowing the crowds,
03:36he's busy putting his talent to work at home.
03:39This bit we've built on ourselves, haven't we?
03:42Yeah.
03:42We keep adding to it a little bit.
03:44It's our little nightclub.
03:46Young enough to still go to a nightclub,
03:48but old enough to wear me slippers when I'm here.
03:50I haven't got my slippers on.
03:52Have you got your slippers on?
03:53There you go.
03:54Now that's the kind of clubbing I can get on board with.
03:57I don't know how it came about, this idea, you know.
03:59I think I was doing magic at some of the posh houses down in Marbella,
04:04and they were all having parties, and I was working there,
04:06and I wasn't invited to them, I was just working.
04:08I thought, I want some parties.
04:10Yeah.
04:11This is the fifth time that Matt and Alana
04:13have hosted an end-of-season shindig,
04:15and this year is bigger than ever.
04:18We've got a lot to do today for the party.
04:21Literally, before a party I am super, super stressed.
04:24I have so much to do.
04:25With the guests due to arrive in just a few hours...
04:28I'm going to start getting all the decorations up.
04:31Yeah, good idea.
04:32I'll get myself off to the butchers and grab the ribs.
04:34I'll see in a bit.
04:35Yeah, all right.
04:36They're expecting quite a crowd of people today,
04:38and there is no room for error.
04:41There are a few things that could go wrong today.
04:43If it pours down with rain, that could be a problem,
04:46because the barbecue is out in the rain.
04:48The power might trip.
04:49We've got a lot of things going.
04:51Yeah.
04:51We've got about three air fryers going,
04:53and the oven and the microwave will all be going.
04:56So...
04:56It tends to trip our power.
04:57Living out here in the Campo,
04:58you can trip the power quite easily.
05:03We're pushing it a little bit to get these ready for the party.
05:06I'm going to have to get them in the pressure cooker.
05:07We've got about two, two and a half hours before people start coming.
05:11And Matt's got just the magic spell that he hopes
05:13will get him to the party on time.
05:15Positivity.
05:16That's what we're after.
05:20OK, I'm going to introduce you to the She Shed.
05:29Retired NHS therapist Jenny moved from North Devon to Spain five years ago.
05:35It is a mess, but I'm an artist.
05:39I'm going to now look for some colours to use.
05:46Life in the sun has done wonders for Jenny's creative expression.
05:49Working in psychiatry can be very draining.
05:52So I needed something that was just going to relax me,
05:58and crafts have always done that.
06:01So I put the colours in here.
06:05Now I'm going to do the painting.
06:07I have no idea how it's going to turn out.
06:11I am a creator.
06:13I always say to my husband, I'm an artist.
06:16I'm not a businesswoman.
06:18I'm not a housewife.
06:20I create.
06:22I always say to people, when you look at a picture,
06:28sometimes an image comes out at you.
06:33See, that one is giving me Highland cow vibes, Jenny.
06:37Do you know, I really love it.
06:39I do.
06:40I love, I love the colours together.
06:44Jenny lives with husband Alan, a former oil rig steward,
06:47and their three dogs in sunny Estepona.
06:50Right, come on, Jessie, let's get your artillery on.
06:57I met my husband, Alan, in the year 2000.
07:01We met in one of the chat rooms,
07:03and actually we were one of the first couples
07:08to ever get married from meeting on the internet.
07:13We're so lucky living up here.
07:16We moved to Spain when I retired,
07:18and when my husband retired.
07:21And we decided to come over here,
07:26where the weather is beautiful.
07:30And I am busier now since I've been retired
07:35than when I was working.
07:38Artist Jenny runs workshops to pass on her creative know-how.
07:42So what plans have you got with a kiss today then, Jen?
07:45Well, they're coming up at one o'clock.
07:47Yeah.
07:48And then we are going to go down to the beach.
07:53And we are going to collect hearts.
07:56OK.
07:56The session is aimed at some budding junior artists.
08:00Today I've got several children coming for a workshop.
08:05We're going to go to the beach,
08:08and we're going to find some hearts.
08:11They are going to find some hearts to paint.
08:14And if they don't have any hearts, then I have thousands here.
08:19So...
08:19Well, I'm going to move along the beach then.
08:22OK.
08:22This one here.
08:25Let's have a look.
08:29There's a lovely heart.
08:30What?
08:31Jenny has a passion for painting stones.
08:35When you think about the shape of a heart,
08:39that is very difficult in nature to create that shape.
08:43So I think I have mermaids all making these hearts for me.
08:47There's a lovely heart there, Jenny, look.
08:49Well, it looks more like a liver to me, that, Alan.
08:51It's not quite.
08:53It's good, though.
08:55Well done, Alan.
08:56It'll be ready in a few years' time.
08:57Yeah, yeah.
08:58Yes, throw that one back to the mermaids
09:00and tell them to finish it off.
09:02We've got so many in the house,
09:04I don't get any more
09:05because we're getting overloaded by hearts.
09:08Right, Jessie, off the last couple of throws.
09:10You look so tightly.
09:12Then we're going home.
09:19Coming up.
09:20It's my bride, goodbye.
09:22Fitness mad Bintzy tips the scales in his favour.
09:26Look at that.
09:28What?
09:28Let's do so.
09:30Get lost.
09:31Somebody's messed about the scales.
09:32So I've got an idea for setting up the ribs
09:34and I, like, want to make it with the head
09:36and the ribs coming out down the side.
09:38And Day of the Dead preparations are under pressure.
09:42Oh, so much stuff that I've been put out.
09:58Well, who needs a gym when you've got a job like me, setting up all these tables?
10:02Back in 2021, Mags have been running her pub in Benelmadina for two years.
10:08I'm the bar owner, but I also run the bar with my barmaids and I also do the cooking, so
10:15I'm the chef as well.
10:16So, basically, I'm an all-rounder in my own bar.
10:19The Glaswegian lass moved to Spain in 2005 with the aim of becoming her own boss.
10:25And that's the terrace set up in five minutes and now we're open.
10:29I'm normally in the bar for about a living, half a living in the morning,
10:32and that's me there till closing.
10:35All my money is going back into the bar and building it up.
10:38I won't really spend on myself, I will just put it all back into the business.
10:42When I got the bar last year, there was a lot of work needing done to it.
10:46I have a couple of friends that did it really cheap for me.
10:50I fed them, they had free drinks.
10:54Getting cheap labour isn't Mags' only talent.
10:56They have a pool league key in Spain and I'm the female champion between Benamada and Tori Molinas.
11:04I'm more the night-time person rather than day-time, selling food and that sort of stuff.
11:09So, yeah, I think I would like a nightclub.
11:14At the moment, I'm definitely being careful with my spending.
11:18I really want to keep all my money as going back into the bar and building it up to get
11:23that nightclub I was talking about.
11:28And we're stepping back to the time she had a plan to make her dream a reality.
11:35She's set up a pool tournament where people will pay to enter and the winner takes home the money.
11:41I'm starting to bring in more promotions to invite people into the bar.
11:46But this pool champion is getting involved and could be Quentin if she wins.
11:51Over the years, it's got really good because it used to be, oh, I'm playing a female.
11:55Now it went to, I'm playing Mags, and now it's, oh, no, I'm playing Mags.
11:59So it's quite an Agabus to me.
12:01Mags is hopeful her new pool promo will help fill her pockets.
12:12Look at that.
12:15What?
12:16Get lost.
12:18The weekly weigh-in isn't something many of us look forward to.
12:21Somebody's messed about with skills.
12:23I was eight stone nine, sorry.
12:27And I've just put two pound on.
12:29But it keeps this health-conscious couple on track.
12:32No, that's it.
12:34Going back on me diet now.
12:36OK?
12:36Yeah.
12:37My name's Richard, alias Binzi.
12:40Because my last name's Binz.
12:42Oh, I get it.
12:43Yeah, it's very clever.
12:44OK, olives.
12:47Binzi and his wife, Kat, have been enjoying a healthy life in Spain since they retired.
12:51We've been mate for 27 years.
12:53Probably been together 30 years.
12:55We moved here permanently 15 years ago.
12:58Basically for the climate, the cost of living.
13:02We enjoy living here.
13:03We've no regrets moving here.
13:06And they make the most of living on the continent with their trusty mobile home.
13:12We've run 6,000 mile in it this year.
13:14We've gone to Germany, France, obviously around Spain, Poland.
13:20We've been to Portugal.
13:21We've been to Turkey.
13:23To be honest with you, I find flying just an asshole.
13:26Put my cycle up back, cycle gear under there.
13:30And we're off that way.
13:31Jobs are good'un.
13:32Vice Captain's seat.
13:34That's Captain's seat.
13:36In the motor home, I leave Richard to do the driving.
13:39I've never driven.
13:40She can not have a driving licence, but she's always telling me what to do.
13:46When they're not heading off to explore pastures new...
13:49So we have our different hobbies.
13:51I go three days a week walking and two days a week hair aerobics.
13:56These sprightly 70-somethings are keeping in tip-top shape.
14:00Some of these shirts are what you get when you've done races.
14:04Bincy's just bonkers about his bike.
14:06I like my own space, especially on the bike.
14:09When I get on that bike now, it's a way of life.
14:12It's something I do three days a week, four days a week if I get a chance.
14:15Bincy clocks up an average of 270 kilometres each week.
14:20You've got your water, haven't you?
14:21Yeah.
14:22Yeah.
14:22Glasses in me, mate.
14:24And you've got enough money to get your coffees?
14:26Yes.
14:27Right.
14:28Toolkit, water, computer.
14:29OK.
14:31The one exception to this dynamic duo's strict diet regime
14:34is a weekly date night dinner.
14:36We're going out for a meal later on today.
14:40Only cos it's Sunday.
14:41But first, they need to work up an appetite.
14:45I like the buzz.
14:46I really like it.
14:47It generally makes me feel good.
14:49I enjoy just passing other cyclists.
14:52If I see another cyclist, I'll do my best at passing.
14:55I don't care how fast it is or how young it is.
14:58It's my bride, goodbye.
14:59I'll be a quick one.
15:01Don't get carried away.
15:02Oh, shit.
15:03See you.
15:04Mind what you're doing?
15:05Take care.
15:06Goodbye.
15:07Won't be a minute, girls.
15:09Right, catch you later.
15:10Steady as you go, Bincy.
15:12Tonight's treat depends on you pacing yourself.
15:25It was an absolutely wonderful day, yeah,
15:27that the sea was warm, the sun was out, sky was blue,
15:31not a cloud to be seen.
15:32It was beautiful.
15:36I think our favourite photo would be the photo
15:39when we went jet skiing.
15:41It was a few years ago down on Sunset Beach,
15:45and I was driving.
15:49I think that's my favourite photo.
15:50Is it yours as well?
15:51Yeah, I think so, yeah.
15:52It was a good day, that was.
15:58Cocktails.
15:58Jamie didn't want to do it, which is why he wasn't in the photo.
16:02We had cocktails beforehand, and we had a party in the night,
16:06and Graham and Jamie were both DJing at the bar,
16:10and it was a really good day.
16:12Really good day.
16:13It was. Yeah.
16:20August of 2020, so we've been together for a year then.
16:23Yeah.
16:23Yeah, a year and a couple of days, if I remember right.
16:27I'm not sure.
16:36Excuse me.
16:37To say I'm a magician, I am rubbish at balloons.
16:42But today, Matt is using every trick in the book
16:45to keep their day-of-the-dead party prep on schedule.
16:50I don't know how many balloons I'm going to need.
16:53Apparently, it looks like we're doing three balloon sculptures today.
16:59Right, come here then, darling.
17:00You need to choose which one do you want.
17:03You want purple to go over your dress?
17:04Balloons aren't the only thing that needs sculpting this afternoon.
17:07Alana is already on the job.
17:11Tattoos are a lot quicker than painting, I'll tell you that.
17:14I think the reason that we have these parties
17:17is just to give the kids some memories, really.
17:20I think it's really unlocking core memories for them.
17:23So I've got an idea for setting up the ribs,
17:25and I want to make it with the head and the ribs coming out down the side
17:29as though it's like a skeleton.
17:31Matt's memory-making might be the stuff of nightmares.
17:34Two hours to go.
17:35Got to prep the food, get the food all sorted.
17:38Quite a lot to do, running out of time.
17:40They're going to be here in a minute, Alana,
17:41so I'm going to get my dress on, get my stuff on,
17:45and then you can do my make-up, OK?
17:46OK.
17:48There is still a lot to get done.
17:51But the weather is holding out, for now.
17:56So if it wasn't raining, I could have done all this, like, in the week.
18:00And it could have stayed out, but I don't know.
18:05And attention to detail is important.
18:07They are going all out for a thing.
18:10I don't know.
18:11I'm just constantly buying stuff online.
18:14I have no idea what I've spent.
18:16But it costs a fortune to go out, though.
18:18We live so far away, so we've got taxes there and back.
18:21We've got to get a babysitter because we're no family here.
18:23So it's, like, it's probably €150 before we even set off.
18:29So I'd rather spend that money on having all our friends come here.
18:32Yeah.
18:33And luckily, some of those friends are here in time to help,
18:36including chef Carina.
18:41It's a whole pork fillet, which I butterflied out,
18:44and then I've stuffed it with Spanish black pudding
18:47and then rolled it in serrano ham,
18:50and then the fingers are the offcuts from the fillet
18:53and dates wrapped in bacon.
18:55And then, yeah, moulded it around,
18:57foil and baked it in the oven.
18:59A spooky hand made out of ham?
19:01Oh, save me a finger.
19:03I think they're going to find it disgusting.
19:05So I'm not sure anyone's going to eat it,
19:07except for my husband. He'll eat it.
19:08Because he's disgusting.
19:10There's not long until everyone else is due to arrive,
19:13and the deadline to get everything ready
19:16is getting scare really close.
19:19So much stuff that hasn't been put out.
19:23All these lights here that haven't even been put up.
19:34These, all these here, are the hearts that I have created.
19:40Artist Jenny has decorated quite the collection of painted pebbles.
19:44This one is wonderful because this one you can meditate with.
19:49It's got the colours of the chakras.
19:53I've loved pebbles all my life.
19:57There are so many colours and shapes and patterns,
20:01and they're beautiful.
20:04She's looking to inspire the same level of enthusiasm
20:07for geological gems at today's workshop.
20:11Put this in the centre of the table.
20:17So that they've got lots of things that they can use.
20:22So I'm just going to put the umbrella up.
20:26Life in the sun may look idyllic now,
20:28but a health scare was what inspired Jenny's love for art.
20:33Five years ago I had my first heart attack.
20:36Then last year I had a couple of heart attacks.
20:42I felt that's telling me to change my life.
20:46What helped me was painting.
20:49I started doing this painting and then I couldn't stop.
20:54As you can see, I filled my house.
21:02Art was a big part of my recovery.
21:06It was something for me to focus.
21:08The table is basically prepared.
21:15And all we need is the children and a load of fun.
21:19And right on cue?
21:21Brilliant.
21:22Ooh, so excited to see you.
21:25Does it give you some ideas?
21:28This one I don't think you could even hold.
21:33I'll try.
21:35No.
21:36With the children and Jenny raring to get going,
21:39there's only one thing to do.
21:41So what we're going to do,
21:42go down to the beach,
21:43you will all find your own heart.
21:47Keep your eyes open.
21:50Remember the shape.
21:52Good luck on your quest to find the perfect pebbles.
21:58Coming up.
22:00Ooh, an extra life.
22:02Both of them have one life and I have three,
22:03so it's looking good for the Queen.
22:06Seeing off the competition,
22:08pool champion Mags could pop gold.
22:11And that's how it's done.
22:13And the Day of the Dead is causing problems
22:15for the living at Alana's Bash.
22:17Dressed?
22:18Still not ready?
22:20There's so much stuff I haven't put out,
22:22but there we go.
22:23Never mind.
22:35This is our keep fit walk.
22:38We'll probably get round about 20,000 steps.
22:45Because, believe it or not, I've got little legs compared to theirs.
22:49So I do more steps.
22:51Yorkshire last cat is pounding the streets
22:53with her exercise pals, Julie and Linda.
22:56It's there to get out together.
22:58You can more or less guarantee good weather, can't you?
23:01You can also guarantee that you'll get a sweat before you get home.
23:08Fitness man Binzie is also working up a sweat.
23:13We both believe that activity breeds activity.
23:16And exercise, for us, it's a way of life.
23:19It's what we do.
23:21Last year, I cycled 9,000 miles.
23:24It has become an obsession.
23:26It's just the freedom.
23:28The freedom and the way it makes me feel.
23:30You know, the endorphins kick in and you just feel good.
23:33If they hit their fitness targets today,
23:36they can both enjoy a treat tonight.
23:39And I have to tell you this, guys.
23:41He's gone on his bike on Tuesday.
23:42He's a big, big racer on Tuesday.
23:45Don't tell Binzie Wiggins,
23:46but the ladies are having a sit down already.
23:49Which is out on his bike most of the time.
23:52But then you have someone to talk about when you get back.
23:55Yes.
23:56Like falling off his bike, like he did already.
23:59My friends, Julie and Linda,
24:01we always have a good lap together.
24:03Are these two coffees?
24:05Christine and Richard, they're a good match.
24:07They bounce off each other, don't they?
24:09Yeah.
24:10As you can gather, Chris is really comical.
24:12Richard just plays along with it, doesn't he?
24:16The couple got married in Cyprus 27 years ago.
24:19The only person and company I need is the cat.
24:24If there were nobody else left on this planet,
24:27I'd be quite happy because I've got the cat.
24:29Oh, you old romantic.
24:31If a picture paints a thousand words, what does that do?
24:35I've no idea, mate.
24:36When I get home, if my wife wasn't there,
24:39I don't know whether I'd cycle or not.
24:41Because it's all part and parcel of my lifestyle.
24:47So when I get home from here, my meal's going to be ready.
24:51All I have to do is get a shower, sit down,
24:53and then share my experience that I've had today on my bike.
24:58If you get back and there's nobody to share it with,
25:00and I'm making my own dinner,
25:02things will be a bit different.
25:04Things will be a lot different.
25:07I think you'd get home quicker on one of those.
25:09But you wouldn't earn tonight's treat.
25:12But back at HQ...
25:13Is the cat back?
25:15No.
25:16I'm a sucker.
25:18Thank goodness you're remembered to take your key, Binty.
25:29Would you like me to put that one in?
25:32You like that one, do you?
25:34OK.
25:35In Estepona, Jenny's mini-artists are on the hunt for the perfect pebbles.
25:42What have you found?
25:44Oh, my word.
25:46You are brilliant.
25:49Do you know, I asked for a load of hearts,
25:53and you have got loads of hearts here.
25:58I found your hearts.
26:00I like this one because it's really nice.
26:04Jenny runs these workshops on an ad hoc basis
26:07and advertises them locally online.
26:09And there's loads here for you to use.
26:12When the children came in with their pebbles,
26:14they were just up the stairs at the table,
26:17and by the time I got up there,
26:20they were already creating their pebbles.
26:25And they all had pictures in their mind,
26:28and they are just busy with it.
26:32Don't forget to shake them.
26:37That's so pretty.
26:40Wow.
26:41You are really good.
26:44I love it.
26:45A lot of children these days, particularly with computers,
26:49don't get a chance to go outside and express themselves.
26:54Children need to use their creativity.
26:58With a background in therapy,
27:00Jenny wants to promote wellbeing through art, whatever your age.
27:04I love it.
27:05I love your designs.
27:07That is beautiful, real abstract.
27:10Would you like me to varnish that for you?
27:13These look gorgeous.
27:16And the benefits of being engaged in something mindful for the afternoon
27:19is really having an impact.
27:21My son was really positive, actually.
27:23Yeah, it calms him down a lot.
27:25It's the only time that I can see him sad.
27:27So it was really good.
27:28It was really nice.
27:30A lot of things to do for the kids.
27:33Very, you know, bringing out their creativity.
27:35And nowadays it's incredibly important to give them something else than screen time.
27:40The workshop with the children was, it couldn't have gone better.
27:45They were so creative.
27:49With everyone's artistic endeavours fulfilled,
27:52the workshop is over and Jenny can finally relax.
27:57So, it would be nice to know how your day went.
28:00Mine was busy.
28:01It was quite warm today, believe it or not, after all that rain we've had.
28:04Yeah.
28:04Cheers.
28:06Cheers.
28:07So how did the painting on the pebbles go with the children?
28:10They loved that, yeah?
28:11Oh, my goodness.
28:12Do you know, they were creating the whole time, walking down the beach, coming back.
28:17All very excited, yeah.
28:19I loved it.
28:20Mm-hmm.
28:22I loved doing these.
28:23And weren't they well-behaved?
28:25Yeah.
28:26For children, yeah, they're not bad.
28:28For children.
28:37Everyone loves a party.
28:39One, two, three!
28:46It's a way to celebrate.
28:48Happy Birthday to you!
28:51Good Santa!
28:56And we all need to let off some steam sometimes.
29:00Yeah!
29:03How are you?
29:08Wilbur!
29:11It doesn't sound like that, me dog.
29:14But it's not always wise to burn the candle at both ends.
29:17It's not for the feel-hearted.
29:19Take some deep breaths and think of something,
29:23something nice and happy that can calm you down.
29:26And if that doesn't work, there's only one thing for it.
29:29Perfect cup of tea. Well, heat the mug.
29:32Get your tea bag in.
29:34Hot, hot water, boiling.
29:36Add your milk in. Stir, stir, stir.
29:39Let it settle. Stir, stir, stir.
29:40You've got your perfect cup.
29:41And I can guarantee it's delicious.
29:43She'll tell you, she'll back me on that.
29:50Well, I'm better than I thought.
29:53Mags is limbering up for her new pool tournament at her bar.
29:57And that's how it's done.
29:59If you have a dream, you can make it happen in your life.
30:02And she has a secret weapon to try and win the prize money for herself.
30:07This is my queue, which is known as the Black Rod.
30:12As you can see, there's not a lot of room behind the bar,
30:15the side of the wall here.
30:17So that's me, Jimmy.
30:19And that's me, Jimmy's big sister.
30:21A lot of my customers love playing here.
30:24Each player will put five euros in the pot for today's pool tournament.
30:32This is my claim to fame in Spain, or my trophies for playing pool.
30:37Because absolutely, I love playing pool.
30:40Mag stands a good chance of winning.
30:44And could put the cash towards her nightclub fund.
30:48My dad taught me how to play pool when I was about 11 years old.
30:53And it was always our thing.
30:55And it got to a stage where he couldn't beat me.
31:00But when he did manage to beat me,
31:01he would do a wee happy dance round my pool table.
31:05He's passed away now.
31:06He's passed away 11 years.
31:08But it was always our thing.
31:10Thanks to her dad, Mags is the pool queen of the costas.
31:16She stands to pocket a healthy 55 euros if she wins the competition today.
31:22Woo-hoo! An extra life!
31:24Both of them have one life and I have three,
31:26so it's looking good for the queen.
31:29And if all goes to plan, it'll be a good day for the nightclub fund.
31:34Oh, hey! Well done!
31:38What do you say?
31:38Yes!
31:40I love owning a balance beam.
31:42That's always what I wanted to do, and I've done it.
31:45And I just love it.
31:46Oh! Too hard!
31:49The situation now is Mags have three shots now to win the game.
31:53And she's just won at this moment.
31:56I won the killer!
32:00Mags pool tournament has netted her the prize money as well
32:03as doubling her usual bar earnings.
32:0655.
32:07Okay, so that's one step closer to my dream nightclub
32:11in a couple of years' time.
32:12Fantastic!
32:13Now you can take a proper break, Mags.
32:16Break.
32:22Stressed? Still not ready?
32:24There's so much stuff I haven't put out, but...
32:27There we go. Never mind.
32:28In Campania, perfectionist party hostess Alana
32:32has accepted defeat with the decorations.
32:34You've done brilliant. It looks well good.
32:38You happy? We're happy.
32:39No.
32:40Come on!
32:42Well, the Day of the Dead theme isn't in any doubt, if you ask me.
32:47So, most people have arrived now. We've still got more coming.
32:49But it's time for me to get out the little picky bits,
32:51the little snacks for food to get people started.
32:53Get us all in the mood. Everyone's had a drink now, so we're ready to go.
32:59And hosting on such a large scale requires teamwork.
33:04Alana?
33:05Are you busy?
33:06Huh?
33:07I'm going to get some sauces and stuff out if you get a chance.
33:11Got the pressure cooker on, got the rub on all in time.
33:15But even the most experienced party planners can't anticipate every demand.
33:20She just came to the bar and, like, pointed at the cocktail list and was like,
33:24um, what are you talking about?
33:26And I was like, um, uh...
33:29Cinco euro.
33:31I was like, that's just for sure. I can't actually make what it's got now.
33:35What they lack in cocktails, they're certainly making up for elsewhere
33:38at this end-of-season shindig.
33:41Oh, they're falling apart. A little bit too tender.
33:46Got quite a few new people coming over today,
33:49people from Darcy and Harley's school that we haven't really met.
33:53We've met them at the gates and stuff but never really been introduced,
33:57so it's the first time they've been to our parties and stuff.
33:59So hopefully we can impress them with the food.
34:02Well, let's hope they can still recognise you with that get-up.
34:05Alana, can you start putting some barbecue drizzle over the top
34:07if you think it needs it?
34:09Can you just put the ribs on there? Is that it now?
34:10So you're not making a body?
34:12No.
34:14I knew when he said it we were going to make a body
34:16that by the time it comes to it that it's just not going to be time to make a body.
34:20We've just run out of time, haven't we?
34:22It still looks cool.
34:24They may have run out of time but there is no danger of them running out of food.
34:29Here we go! Whee!
34:30Yay!
34:32Look at this!
34:34Ha-ha!
34:36Woo-hoo!
34:38That's all, Corinna.
34:41OK!
34:42Anybody want food?
34:44Go have yourself!
34:45The food's gone across really well so far.
34:48I mean, I thought I'd done really well
34:49and then Corinna came up and topped it with that meat hand.
34:52Looks incredible.
34:53Matt may have finally stepped away from the grill,
34:56but that doesn't mean he's off duty.
34:58All right, everyone get your bingo cards and pens from Alana.
35:02Scary bingo!
35:03We've got some bingo.
35:04We'll probably get some karaoke.
35:06Hopefully get all that done before the sun goes down.
35:08We've got a couple of hours before the night kicks in.
35:10So we've got a couple of hours of good times and then we'll kick on with the cocktails.
35:13That's if Alana has found the recipe for a mojito.
35:18As always, Matt and Alana's parties are amazing.
35:22I've loved it.
35:23It's been a great night.
35:24I loved absolutely everything and I cannot believe the hand.
35:28I can't believe it.
35:30It looked terrifying but it tasted delicious.
35:32It's been really good, the party today, hasn't it?
35:34Yeah, it's been really good.
35:35Yeah, one of our best.
35:36I was really stressed at the beginning because I didn't get everything out,
35:39all my decorations out that I'd made and I was really annoyed about that
35:42because I had so much that I didn't get out.
35:44It's been good though, hasn't it?
35:44Yeah.
35:45Really good day, really successful, yeah.
35:51Coming up...
35:51We're getting a three more of a cava, so happy beers.
35:54Oh no, I'm getting a three sangria.
35:56I'm getting a cava.
35:57Mikes is pushing the boat out on her day off.
36:00Cheers, Braves.
36:01It's a great day.
36:02And Biz is pushing the boat out on his date night.
36:07Two or three more of them down there.
36:09That'll be fireworks.
36:23I'm going out with my pal today,
36:25so I'm making up some sandwiches for a wee picnic on the boat
36:29because we're going to go near Catamaran.
36:31In Benalmadina, bar owner Mikes is taking a well-deserved day off.
36:36My pal lets us on the boat for cheap and we get three sangria.
36:40She works 14 hours a day to keep her business in profit.
36:43Make my own sandwiches, take my crispin chocolate
36:45and have a good cheap day out.
36:49I'm making another round of sandwiches after this,
36:51but I don't know why they call it a round, because they're square.
36:55That's crazy.
36:57Recharging her batteries is essential.
36:59Lifestyle has definitely changed here in Spain, for the better.
37:03When I get friends and family over here,
37:05I absolutely love going out on a boat.
37:07Hiya, how are you doing, babes?
37:10I made some sandwiches and I bought some crispin chocolates
37:12and that's only about £3.50, so I'm going to have a cheap day out of the day.
37:15And along for the ride today is friend Debbie.
37:18Oh, it's so good to have a day off today.
37:19I can't wait to get in the boat, aye.
37:21The weather's really nice out there today, so...
37:24I don't know whether it'll go beige or blue.
37:26Right, that's the taxi.
37:27Let's go. Let's go.
37:29They're setting sail from Benalmadina's Marina.
37:33Hi, Bates. Hi, Simone. Hiya.
37:35And cost-conscious Mags is already looking for a cut-price deal
37:39from ticket seller Simon today.
37:41He's normally 15-year-old, but I know he had only 10-year-old each.
37:46If you're lucky, we'll see dolphins, eh?
37:49Yeah. Right, fingers crossed.
37:50Yeah.
37:52I hope you've got your sea legs on, ladies.
37:55Oh, this is just fantastic getting out in the water.
37:58My day off, you have to just enjoy it.
38:01And when you're doing it on a budget and having such luck,
38:05you could never have this in your day off in Glasgow, could you?
38:07No, no.
38:11Cos Simon's my friend, we're getting a free bottle of cava,
38:14so happy days.
38:15Oh, and I'm getting a free sangria.
38:16I'm getting the cava.
38:18But even on her day off, work is never far from Mags' thoughts.
38:22I had a really good night at the bar last night.
38:24Yeah?
38:25By the time I cleared up the bar and got home and got to my bed,
38:27it was quarter to four this morning.
38:28Oh, no.
38:29However, today is all about relaxing.
38:32Cheers, babes.
38:33It's a great day.
38:35Better than eating atlas.
38:36I know.
38:37And cheap.
38:39All while saving her euros for her future dreams.
38:44So my goal is actually to extend this bar next year,
38:48and then in a couple of years' time, sell that and get a nightclub.
38:52And that's my aim.
38:54That's why all the saving and getting all the bargains
38:58and getting lots of friends that do things on your cheek for you.
39:02With a hectic life and big plans for the future...
39:06That's a win-win.
39:08Win-win situation.
39:10Bargain.
39:12The boat trip has been a chance to recharge her batteries
39:15ready for another week at the bar.
39:17It's not really a pipe dream because you can make it come true.
39:20But out here, I mean, nearly 16 years being here,
39:24but see when you have a day off and you're just chilling
39:26and you come down and doing this,
39:27I still look around and go, I'll live for you.
39:29Yeah.
39:30This is my life.
39:31It's fantastic.
39:32Yeah.
39:33It certainly is, Mags.
39:35Enjoy the rest of your day off.
39:45It's another day over.
39:49Stop my computer.
39:51And that will now upload to my phone.
39:53After a 50km ride, Bike Man Binzie is keen to have a look at his fitness stats.
39:58So, my average heart rate was 119.
40:02119 is a fat burning heart rate.
40:04My average speed is 24.6km.
40:07Well, you can certainly afford to splurge on your date night dinner now.
40:12It's pushed every function of my body.
40:14My heart, my lungs, my liver, my kidneys.
40:17Everything is functioning to its maximum.
40:21So when I go out now for my evening meal,
40:24if I decide to have a few beers, it doesn't really matter.
40:27But there's still no sign of wife, Kat.
40:30Oh, hang on, she's back.
40:32OK?
40:33Yeah.
40:33I've done 12,226 steps.
40:37Right.
40:38That's good for me.
40:39And now I'm sweating.
40:41This duo are determined that age isn't going to be a barrier
40:44to living life to the full.
40:46I'm not going to slow down.
40:47I mean, if I start getting lethargic,
40:50I think it's time to do a bit more and get yourself fitter.
40:54Right, Kat.
40:55Will do.
40:55It's a lot.
40:57Give us a whirl.
40:59Yeah, you're passing the storm.
41:01Watch behind me ears.
41:02Yeah, I know that bit.
41:04I want to be speeding.
41:06Very funny.
41:08OK.
41:08Right, come on.
41:10You knew the hell then, didn't you?
41:13Benzie's definitely earned his beer today.
41:15But after putting on two pounds, Kat is watching her intake.
41:18I think you'll have a large meal, please.
41:20Yes, for you and I.
41:21Can I have a tonic, please?
41:23No ice.
41:25I just need another 46 and I've done 15,000.
41:30Good day's work.
41:31Good day's work.
41:48Oh, look, I'm going to spill it in them.
41:50That's it.
41:51Let your hair down.
41:52Diet starts tomorrow.
41:54Hopefully, when I get up in the morning and get back on them scales,
41:58I will have lost two pounds.
41:59A lot of our friends have passed away too young.
42:02So, to us, if we can keep going, then we'll keep going.
42:07Grab that.
42:07Yeah.
42:08Here's to another...
42:09Here's to more ears here.
42:11Another 15, at least.
42:13They did ask for a tonic, but I've got gin and tonic,
42:15so that's better still.
42:17That's better still, yeah.
42:18I'll get two or three more of them down there,
42:21and it'll be fireworks.
42:24That means you'll have to walk me home better.
42:27Anything can happen then.
42:29Look, I'm going to smack him.
42:31On your bike, Vinzy.
42:33That's my...
42:38Next time on The Costas...
42:40I just realised there's some of the equipment at home.
42:42Ed's missing a vital ingredient for his hog roast dinner.
42:45That's a very annoying thing.
42:46Bar owner Shane is setting the style for a staff day out.
42:49You're not going to get that one.
42:50I'm not going to get that one.
42:51And party host Nigel spreads the secret to eternal youth.
42:55I don't even like them.
42:57Go home!
42:57Jeeze!
42:58Go home,
42:58Go on!
42:58Up!
42:58Up!
42:59Up!
42:59Up!
43:00Up!
43:00Up!
43:00Up!
43:00Up!
43:01Up!
43:01Up!
43:06Up!
