00:05state of reality. Various studies show that people in power have experiences of less empathy than
00:14people who have to answer to them. Now, when you inhabit an environment in which you have
00:19far greater power than the people around you, your mirror neurons show less activity. These
00:25are the ones that are responsible for empathy and seeing things from somebody else's perspective.
00:31It could be that the brain's radar, scientists think, for scanning other people's feelings
00:38is just not so urgent as it is for other people with less power because those people
00:44are more concerned about social consequences while the people in an ultra-powerful position are not.
00:50So, as a result of this position, they just have a different perception of the people around them.
