00:03the silver and black love them or hate them the raiders are a franchise unique in all of sports
00:11the raiders are different because everybody wants to be one
00:16the other pro teams are all turning their uniforms black they all want to be raiders
00:24there is no better team to get drafted by than the raiders and when you're a raider that's the best
00:35though a decade of losing may have shaken their pride and rattled their poise
00:40the raiders legacy is unmistakable for the youngsters who are growing up
00:45they don't remember the heyday of the raiders coming to town oh man we gotta have some fight
00:51it was a franchise not show up and just beat you but they've come to beat you up
00:56a little bit of milling around going on there's a big pile up here come all the raiders
01:02holy soleno it's a free for all making a top 10 list amidst this collection of characters
01:09poses quite a challenge hey baby it's about pain you must be a great player
01:17while embodying the virtues of the silver and black i hit him with a forearm while ago so he's out
01:22he's out on his feet for me i mean you gotta epitomize the raider mentality we don't quit
01:31we don't die we just it's like pain i would say mark van egan no oh it is this drunk
01:39yes well i think
01:41ultimately it comes down to winning i mean the raiders are about winning just win baby
01:47no matter what order that will be revealed throughout the next 60 minutes of this program
01:54al davis will have a problem with it
01:57the number 10 raider of all time marcus allen
02:04you know with jordan you say michael everybody knows who you're talking about
02:07you know when you say marcus you knew you weren't talking about dupree from the moment he joined
02:12the raiders as a first round draft pick in 1982 our number 10 raider showed the versatility
02:18that would define his career
02:23football player just such a the guy
02:29but he had that great football speed because he always ran away from people
02:35exactly
02:36through 11 seasons with the team allen is the raiders all-time leading rusher and fifth leading
02:42receiver exactly but his performance against the redskins in super bowl 18 made him a prime
02:48candidate for our list
02:54could be gone
02:55give me a break marcus allen everybody knows takes off squeezes through
03:04cuts one way breaks across the grain comes up to me you'll feel a 62 68 yard touchdown
03:10remember that i remember that and then the great part of the play is everybody said marcus didn't have enough
03:14speed
03:16and then he outruns everybody to the end zone for a touchdown they were supposed to lose by 21
03:21they won by 21
03:23that play is a signature play for him and it's a signature play for the raiders
03:47allen had a nose for the end zone but remains on the tail end of this list due to the
03:52arrival of two sports standout bo jackson in 1987
03:56i felt really bad
03:58when bo jackson came on the team and they had to start splitting time
04:02they couldn't find a way to keep both of those guys happy
04:09you have to give the nod to al davis i thought it was a really good decision not to play
04:13him for five years
04:13so marcus i know you're a future hall of fame running back but we kind of don't need you for
04:18the next five years we'll just let you rot on the bench
04:20but for marcus to get mad and go play for the chiefs just bothered me
04:27and i think if he had played that entire career at the raiders he may have been in the top
04:31three or four
04:32no comment
04:36picking this list i mean was it a raider person to pick this list
04:42i mean the average 1300 yards from scrimmage 10 touchdowns for nine years
04:50nobody does that nobody does that
04:54is alan a raider traitor
04:56and does he belong on this list
04:59traitor no way never traitor even though he did score his 100th touchdown against us
05:03you guys remember that one huh
05:04he breaks the tackle at the goal line he's in for a touchdown
05:08that's his 100th career touchdown
05:12yeah marcus is way too low i know al may disagree but marcus is one of the ultimate raiders
05:19al's probably angry if he is on your top ten he's probably getting a phone call
05:23you could probably uh throw him off the list just because he did go play for the chiefs and and
05:29and
05:29and that that that alone uh is is is a mortal sin
05:34raiders lore is filled with defensive backs like jack tatum who made
05:40the number nine raider of all time willie brown
05:46favorite uh willie brown shot is the nfl films of him running back the touchdown and the super
05:55ball in pasadena against the minnesota vikings
05:57he's going all the way
06:16he was a big play defensive back and he always had great vision he was always looking in at the
06:23quarterback and when the quarterback released the ball and he had the same jump on the ball as the
06:28receiver a great cover guy very smart player very classy guy hall of famer you couldn't trick him
06:39outsmart him you couldn't trash talk him he's as good as there was
06:46in the secondary was the great cornerback willie brown he was a leader he was he's one of the
06:52inventors of the bumper run he's probably the best cornerback in the nfl during that time
06:57he came over from denver so he had to play enough years with the raiders to get that out of
07:02the
07:02system the best they have to me was when they're ready to trade for willie shows up and he weighs
07:07225
07:08pounds he's six feet two i mean you know corners didn't look like that like how can anybody this big
07:16run with these wide receivers and he could
07:20our number nine raider shares the team's all-time interceptions record with 39 picks during his 12
07:26seasons
07:32he was a guy that had unique skills in terms of his ability to get his hands on his physicality
07:37and his ability to run and be athletic
07:42not high enough worked hard you know he led by example brown service as a raider assistant and
07:51executive for over 30 years after his playing career only enhances his status on our list
08:01not many people can say they're a raider lifer and go and stay right with the organization willie
08:07dedicated his life to uh the raiders and l davis and there's nothing that l likes more than somebody
08:12who dedicates their life to them so yeah that fully round good choice class act for sure
08:22really jim plunkett to me is the embodiment of the raider rejected by the mainstream rejected by
08:28the establishment washed up but al saw the greatness in him because we see greatness where others don't
08:34we're we are a team that is made up of other players that deserve a second one a second chance
08:39and
08:39got one with us every vitalizer career talk about a comeback story heck that might be the best
08:45comeback story ever plunkett was a heisman trophy winner and the top pick in the 1971 draft but his
08:53career crashed and burned in new england and san francisco before joining the raiders in 1978
09:00i don't even think the league knew where he went for two years he was on our bench he was
09:05hiding out
09:06but he was mending his brain was mending he was getting his confidence back the number eight raider
09:11on our list took over for an injured dan pastorini in 1980 and led the cinderella raiders to victory
09:18over the eagles in super bowl 15. everyone thought his career was over
09:32this was the finest hour in the history of the oakland raiders you were magnificent out there
09:36i think oftentimes players that go there there was always that mystique that they're going to
09:44you know reinvent you but i think jim is living proof is that you have to be in the right
09:48system at the
09:49right time because of that long deep arm and cliff branch and those guys al davis could do what he
09:55did
09:55best and that was to strike with the people rolling and drive on to branch all the way to the
10:0437 yard line
10:06under the tutelage of head coach tom flores plunkett became a true raider reclamation
10:12so big so strong they just got the ball there somehow or another
10:16boom it was there and jim was less concerned about how good he was going to look and more concerned
10:24with how good we were going to be doesn't always look the best sometimes looks a little awkward out
10:30there while marcus allen stole the show in super bowl 18 our number eight raider efficiently led oakland
10:36to victory he was able to utilize his great experience and be the leader of that group of people
10:47plunkett's quiet persona and rocky early career have left him out of the hall of fame
10:52but his two super bowl wins cannot be overlooked i think jim is is probably not given enough credit
10:58for what he did for the raiders in terms of leading that team as a person one of the most
11:03underrated players of all time because without jim plunkett's expertise and guidance you could really build
11:09a good case that maybe those two super bowls might not have actually happened
11:15love plunkett he should be higher than was he number eight he should be higher than number eight
11:19dave casper caught 255 passes during his hall of fame career
11:24while todd christensen was another raiders standout at tight end
11:32the greatest receiver of all time jerry rice played three seasons in a raider resurgence of the early 2000s
11:41another brilliant raiders career belonged to art powell number 84. in just four seasons in the silver
11:47and black powell caught an incredible 50 touchdown passes art was art was a big guy you know six feet
11:56three probably weighed 215 maybe close to 220 he couldn't really run you know art powell never really got
12:04yeah publicity that probably he should have it then longevity make our list
12:12the number seven raider all time cliff branch
12:17ell's way of thinking there's only been one wide receiver that's typified uh the raiders and that's
12:24been cliff branch for 14 seasons cliff branch defined oakland's vertical passing game
12:30branch one-on-one with riley a leaping catch touchdown raiders cliff was one of the fastest
12:35players i think ever branch again he's got a step
12:39you were turning the light out your bed before it got dark every time you think about
12:43cliff branch did he ever go short
12:50no he was always going for 80 yards look at the speed that that's what i wanted to do was
12:56to get
12:56the 60 and a 40-yard touchdown pass
13:03yeah cliff branch was the ultimate deep threat
13:09the number seven raider on our list had to develop hands to match his speed when cliff got there he
13:15couldn't catch a cold but he could outrun everybody cliff started yelling for the ball before he got
13:19his jock on you know kenny i got this guy i own this guy throw me the ball snake got
13:25thrown in the ball
13:26until finally he caught a couple branch went on to catch 67 touchdown passes plus three more in super
13:33bowl play i could not talk to a cornerback in the nfl who didn't think cliff branch was the best
13:39receiver in the league not just a fast guy but a fast guy who absolutely knew how to play the
13:45ball
13:54al davis has been looking for the next cliff branch ever since cliff branch left so that tells
13:59you cliff branch was doing something right
14:03real being another raider unjustly snubbed by the hall of fame cements his status on our list of
14:09all-time raiders he's in there now probably the best player not in the hall of fame a great player
14:15and he's not in the hall of fame can you believe that one cliff branch definitely he should be in
14:21that hall of fame without any question and uh his turn will come for some reason he's not up there
14:26with lynn swan then the minds are lynn swan soft remember swan had super bowl 10 great stage in miami
14:36lays out makes these beautiful catches while swan shined in the sun branches nighttime and indoor
14:43super bowl heroics are overlooked by many but not our list the numbers speak for themselves that's
14:49a joke i mean you the numbers our cliff has 67 touchdowns swan had 40 or whatever the numbers
14:56nowhere close to cliff branch yeah that's a tragedy he never had truly a memorable catch
15:05that helps to um plant an image in voters minds but yeah i i think beyond a shadow of a
15:13doubt cliff
15:14branch belongs in the hall of fame
15:17sixth raider of all time george blanda yes everybody loved george blanda
15:24the raiders really are a franchise of resurrection they really are a franchise that took a lot of guys
15:30that were castoffs kicked around discarded and brought them there and gave them a home and gave
15:35them a fresh start well nobody
