01:00And the Super Bowl is unbelievable.
01:05The wind is whipping out here, right outside the Superdome.
01:09Major, major flooding.
01:19Five months after Hurricane Katrina and an entire season playing on the road, the New
01:25Orleans Saints were looking for a head coach.
01:28Someone willing to move to a devastated region to lead a moribund franchise with a broken
01:33home.
01:35We all saw the effects of Hurricane Katrina.
01:38You know, how is this going to play out?
01:40Is the Superdome going to be able to be repaired?
01:43Is this team going to stay in New Orleans on a long-term basis?
01:46And really at a time when everyone was leaving, the idea that, hey, we might decide to go
01:51move there amidst the exodus, Sean Payton arrived, hired as the 14th head coach in Saints history.
02:00This is an exciting day for me and my family.
02:03I'd like to first thank Mr. Benson Rita for giving me this great opportunity to coach a
02:10great organization.
02:1314 coaches, they'd only been around 39 seasons.
02:18So they couldn't even keep a coach for three seasons on average.
02:24That's garbage.
02:29The Saints were one of the least successful franchises in all of sports.
02:35It's like having open-heart surgery week after week after week without an aesthetic.
02:42We couldn't do diddly, poo offensively.
02:45We couldn't make a first down.
02:47We couldn't run the ball.
02:49We didn't try to run the ball.
02:50We couldn't complete a pass.
02:52We sucked.
02:53But Sean Payton was not afraid of a challenge.
02:56As an assistant, he took the worst from Bill Parcellus.
03:00What do you got?
03:01Anything?
03:01Give me a couple ideas.
03:02I don't need him to un-bush after the game.
03:06As a player, he was chewed out by Mike Ditka during the strike year of 1987.
03:12He was, I guess, the scab quarterback, for lack of a better term.
03:17But I know he ended up starting three games.
03:20One of those was against the Saints when I think most of the Saints team had come back,
03:26at least the Saints defense.
03:27So I've seen clips of basically Sean just getting knocked around.
03:33Coincidentally, that was the year the Saints made the playoffs for the first time in their history.
03:38They intercepted their future head coach on his very last NFL pass.
03:44It helped me figure out that I wasn't going to be able to do it for a living.
03:50Payton wasn't an NFL quarterback, but he knew what one looked like.
03:55Here's Breeze.
03:56Pump fake.
03:57And throw.
03:58Touchdown!
03:59How about that, Drew Breeze, baby!
04:02Drew Breeze was a free agent, but there was competition for the service.
04:06The Breeze wasn't much taller than Sean Payton.
04:08He was on the interstaller.
04:11And a more popular shooter in the Miami Dolphins.
04:15I think, just from an outsider's perspective, the obvious choice is Miami.
04:21One of the most storied organizations in the history of the NFL.
04:24It was on the up and up.
04:25Living in South Florida.
04:27You know, it just doesn't get much better than that, right?
04:30Payton's pitch would have to be good.
04:34I was going to take Drew and Brittany to a couple places that they might want to live.
04:39Sean wanted to show my wife and I that New Orleans was coming back.
04:44That there were plenty of places to live and to raise a family.
04:47All that went fine, but on the way back, I took the wrong turn and we ended up...
04:52I can't tell you where we ended up, really.
04:55All of a sudden, the neighborhood kind of turns into where you've got a car in a living room.
05:00You've got another house that is off its foundation.
05:03You've got a boat that's flipped over on somebody's roof.
05:08I remember feeling like I just ought to drive this guy right to Miami right now.
05:12I mean, it was awful.
05:14But I think what he didn't realize was Brittany and I were looking into the deeper meaning of it all.
05:19I felt like this is where I belong.
05:22To be a part of not only the rebuilding of an organization, but also a city and a region.
05:28The arrival of Drew Brees, along with Peyton, gave the team hope.
05:33Something the Saints hadn't had in a long time.
05:38He needed to be.
05:39The Saints had won only one playoff game in 38 years.
05:44You've got to compete out here now.
05:45You're just conceding some throws.
05:47I'm watching the whole time, the whole drive.
05:49Hey, the whole drive, I'm watching it, Joe.
05:52You tell me I'm wrong.
05:54Drew Brees was one of the few players who needed no prodding.
05:58The very first bye week we had in 06, the players had been giving off that weekend.
06:04And I was walking to the car and I looked.
06:06And on the field is this guy in shorts and a t-shirt.
06:11And he has a ball.
06:12Then I see that it's Brees and he's kind of dropping back and going through the motions of playing the
06:17position.
06:17And I walk out there and I said, what are you doing?
06:19He said, hey, I'm just trying to simulate the game that I would be playing today.
06:23So I'm staying on the routine.
06:27And I looked at him, you know, Sunday afternoon about 2 o'clock.
06:30And I said, well, who's winning?
06:32And he says, we're winning.
06:33I said, well, that's good.
06:35And he was out there for another hour and a half.
06:37Well, if I could maybe just throw and put it on him right now.
06:40It's a touchdown.
06:43We knew he was driven.
06:46And when you're able to hear him in the huddle, not only give the play, but coach up the halfback.
06:51Be ready to look hot for me flat.
06:53And alert the tight end.
06:54Billy, over here, fix right.
06:55Don't fix right.
06:56And possibly a receiver on every play.
06:58Get on, Lance, get on, get on.
07:00Okay.
07:00He certainly is an extension.
07:02Be decisive, okay?
07:03Either you're running and you're outrunning him now, or you're putting your foot in the ground and you're coming.
07:07Okay?
07:07You make that determination and make it quick.
07:09All right, okay.
07:11Three games into the 2006 season, the Superdome reopened for the first time since Hurricane Katrina.
07:2068,000 fans, 68,000 emotions.
07:25From that first block punt by Steve Gleason to the recovery in the end zone, I've never to this day
07:35heard the Superdome louder than that moment.
07:43That's when you knew that no matter who we were playing that day, they didn't stand a chance.
07:46Ice this game.
07:48Now we can do it in here.
07:49You guys got him.
07:50Right at the edge of the f***ing diamond board.
07:52Push him off.
07:53Let's go.
07:54Come here.
07:55Bush is lined up to the right as a wide receiver.
07:58They give it to him on an end around.
08:00He gives it to Devery Henderson.
08:01Oh, reverse.
08:02And Henderson's to the goal line.
08:04And he is in.
08:05To do it against the hideous Falcons also made it extra sweet.
08:15It was magical.
08:16You could feel what that game meant and what it symbolized.
08:20New Orleans was coming back.
08:23We could have gone eight quarters, nine quarters, ten quarters.
08:26That wasn't changing tonight.
08:28This game ball is going to everybody in this city.
08:30This city is getting this game ball from our organization, this team.
08:34This game ball is going to the city of New Orleans.
08:39In 2006, Peyton's first year as head coach, he led New Orleans to the doorstep of the Super Bowl.
08:47It would take the Saints three years to find a way through.
08:56A pro bowler for the Jets and a friend to all Muppets.
09:02What was your favorite subject in school?
09:04Lunch.
09:04Ah, he got me there.
09:06That was a good one.
09:08Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha.
09:11All right, calm down.
09:13Like Drew Brees, Vilma is undersized for his position.
09:17But he's quick to the ball.
09:25Yes, sir.
09:26Yes, sir.
09:27Let's go.
09:27Let's go.
09:29They have press strong first play.
09:30Alert went to press weak.
09:32Okay.
09:32All right?
09:34So, no, it's coming to you.
09:35Yeah.
09:36All right.
09:36Coming back here.
09:37We're not coming back here.
09:39I think Vilma is one of the more intelligent football players in this league.
09:44Ooh, almost got that ball.
09:46And I saw a marked difference in our defense immediately just because of his leadership ability.
09:51Remember now.
09:52I'm going to break that A-gap.
09:54The back comes to you.
09:54Take him.
09:55Yeah, man.
09:55The defense improved, but not in the category that mattered most to the head coach.
10:02How many turnovers we have right now?
10:05What's the turnover ratio?
10:06Somebody be a ball-out hero.
10:08I want to tackle, but somebody be a ball-out hero.
10:10Bang.
10:10Here we go, baby.
10:11So, in 2009, Peyton hired defensive coordinator Greg Williams, a coach who shared his philosophy
10:19of attack.
10:20Greg brought an attitude that he was going to insta-
10:23The bounty gate guy.
10:27Yeah.
10:28Kill Frank Gore.
10:30Bill and his players just emphasizing each snap is an opportunity to take the ball away.
10:36Hey, we knocked the ball out in the street.
10:39He likes to go outside the box.
10:42Everyone knows that.
10:43So, he started showing some nature videos.
10:46He had the alligators, cheetah, lions going after zebras and gazelles.
10:52He said, you see that?
10:52That's just aggression.
10:54That's all it is.
10:55Anybody can make a tackle.
10:56Anybody can make a sack.
10:57But who are the ones that can get that ball out when you're making a tackle?
11:01Who are the ones that can strip the ball out of the quarterback when you're getting
11:03a sack?
11:04You know, those are game-changing plays.
11:06They've got it.
11:07They cover him up for the touchdown.
11:09You're the predator.
11:10Go out there and hunt.
11:12Go get him.
11:13Go get him.
11:15Look at him.
11:16At the beginning of the 2009 season, the defense went on the attack.
11:21The ball hawk was free agent Darren Sharper, number 42.
11:28And it's intercepted.
11:30This is Sharper.
11:31Back to the 15, the 20, the 25, the 30, 35, 40.
11:35Look at the veteran go.
11:36Midfield.
11:37He gone.
11:38He gone.
11:39He gone.
11:4197 yards on the touchdown return by Darren Sharper.
11:46In Philly.
11:47That's the second time I've seen Kevin Cobb throw a 95-plus-yard touch interception return to a safety.
12:00You know, Sharper came up with a big interception.
12:03He had the one the week against the Jets.
12:06Sanchez throws an interception to Sharper.
12:08Sharper with a convoy out in front.
12:10He'll go the distance.
12:11It got to the point where if he didn't get an interception in the game, you thought that was an
12:16aberration.
12:17Hey, who that?
12:19Who that?
12:20The same old Saints I've been known growing up, man.
12:23Same old Saints.
12:24Ain't nothing different.
12:25For most of their history, nothing seemed to go right.
12:28Oh, really?
12:30Oh, really?
12:54That's a nice sign.
12:56But, yeah, I would ask Brandon Jacobs after the game how his words taste because he was eating them.
13:08Start that we had just really blowing people out.
13:11You know, scoring almost 40 points a game.
13:14The way the defense was playing.
13:16But you always kind of wait for that time when you're going to be tested.
13:21Starting off at Miami, we get down 24-3 in the second quarter.
13:26Very easily could have just threw in the towel and said, hey, today's not our day.
13:30The old Saints would have.
13:32On a fourth and goal near the end of the first half, the man who played his college ball in
13:37Indiana had his Hoosiers moment.
13:40We needed a touchdown.
13:42I'm looking at Sean, and I just said, Coach, I'll get it.
13:45Wait a minute.
13:46Saying he had a Hoosier moment is kind of an insult because he played for Purdue.
13:50Dude, he didn't play for the Indiana Hoosiers.
13:55They were rivals.
13:57He played for the Purdue Boilermakers.
14:01It's on the six-inch line.
14:02I can sneak it and jump over the top or whatever you want.
14:06Sean trusted me with that, and I let the offensive lineman know that there was no other option.
14:11We got to score a touchdown.
14:13And it's going to be Drew Brees who goes up, over, and in.
14:16Drew Brees goes airborne.
14:19A roll of the dice.
14:20A gamble won.
14:22It seemed small at the time, but it was a sign of things to come.
14:26And it sparked a second-half comeback in Miami.
14:30This is a football team that faced a 21-point deficit.
14:34Whatever questions this team had not answered before today, they have answered them in very positive fashion.
14:42Here we are in Miami.
14:43We know it's the host Super Bowl city, and the NFC was going to be the visiting team that year.
14:48So that would be the locker room that we'd be in if we came back.
14:52I remember us all looking around as we're celebrating that big comeback victory.
14:56And Sean Payton just saying, hey, guys, remember this feeling.
14:59Because we plan on being back here feeling the same way.
15:11The Saints kept winning, pushing their record to 10-0.
15:16And the man they call Breezes established himself as the most accurate quarterback in the NFL.
15:26No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
15:28Let me start to go right there.
15:30The most accurate quarterback in league history to that point.
15:34Until he broke his own record.
15:37Touchdown!
15:37Beautifully thrown ball by Drew Brees.
15:40In 2009, Brees completed an NFL record 70.6% of his passes.
15:49Apparently, that kind of efficiency has to be studied to be believed.
15:54Testing diapers on the football field?
15:56That's a first.
15:57That's right.
15:58With one of the most accurate quarterbacks of all time.
16:01Can he really hit a size 5 diaper from 30 yards?
16:04Let's see what kind of impact these diapers can withstand.
16:09I'm throwing footballs at diapers.
16:12Oh, man!
16:14Amazing!
16:15And I don't do that all too often.
16:18But that was a unique opportunity to do something with my son, Balin.
16:22Being on a Pampers Cruisers with Drymax commercial with his daddy.
16:27We YouTube that in the linebacker room.
16:29That's not the last time you're going to see his son that season.
16:35Not at all.
16:36One day, it was impressive to watch.
16:38I mean, he was on.
16:41Thank God he's on our team.
16:43It was good.
16:44What is that?
16:46Brees stayed dry and calm in any situation.
16:49A nice counterbalance to the head coach.
16:53I tell you what, everything you see as far as practice is calm.
16:57That just goes all out the window on game day.
17:00Hey!
17:00You've got to get your ass in the game!
17:03You!
17:03He's a maniac, and I stay away from him.
17:06What kind of shoes you got on?
17:08Yeah, that's big figures.
17:10Put on the cleats!
17:12Sean is not afraid to light you up on the sideline.
17:16Hey!
17:17That isn't all right!
17:18It's not all right!
17:19All right, all right, all right.
17:20I want it high and tight!
17:22I'm telling you, if he could put pads on and go out there and play, he would.
17:25He's a fiery guy.
17:27Let's go!
17:27Let's go!
17:27Let's go!
17:29Let's go!
17:30Watch this, though.
17:31I mean, he loves competition.
17:33Loves it.
17:34And he's just expecting the best out of everybody.
17:37You know, expecting perfection.
17:40You got to learn how to smile a little bit earlier, baby.
17:43All right.
17:43I know.
17:46Still undefeated in week 12, the Saints face their toughest test.
17:50The New England...
17:51That perfection most of the season.
17:55Patriots on Monday Night Football.
17:58When we came here in 06, New England was the team.
18:01It was team first.
18:03It was good quarterback play.
18:05It was a solid plan by the coaches.
18:07And we began to try to emulate that.
18:10Let's go now, fellas!
18:11Just do your job!
18:13Now listen, man.
18:14Let's just go one series at a time and just do our job.
18:17And so, you know, here it was four years later on a Monday Night game.
18:22We're playing that team.
18:24I hope you can tell how loud this place is.
18:28Let's go, D. Start fast!
18:30Start fast!
18:32On this night, the Saints proved to be a better version of the Patriots.
18:41We've got to make some yards on it.
18:43Get film up.
18:44We block film and we make yards.
18:46We cut and lose.
18:47We're not gaining anything.
18:48I might just stay dangerous to the two receivers side.
18:50That's what I did right now.
18:51That's right!
18:52And wherever you set it, we play it!
18:54Hot 9-1-1!
18:56Alert to check down!
18:58Dillman, the defense, employed a strategy that would serve them well in the playoffs.
19:02Hit the Hall of Fame quarterback.
19:05And the carnage continues.
19:07Saints fans are loving every single second of it.
19:11Drew Brees outplayed Tom Brady.
19:14Throwing five touchdowns to five different receivers.
19:17Brees is going to throw down the safe.
19:18Wide open Devery Henderson!
19:20Nobody's within 20 yards of him!
19:21He can do the best!
19:23Drew Brees usually outplayed Tom Brady.
19:26Usually.
19:28Broke into the end zone from there!
19:30And he'll take it in for a touchdown strike!
19:35For us to go out there and really just dominate that team, we thought, okay, we got something
19:42here.
19:43You did it!
19:44It was a great day!
19:46Coach Bilicek came up to me after the game and said, he's so glad I'm out the division
19:51because he doesn't want to face me twice a year.
19:54And to personally single me out to tell me that, that's real flattering.
19:59The Saints played their best against the Patriots, but they finished the year at their worst.
20:04Their undefeated season ended against the Dallas Cowboys.
20:08They went on to lose to both the Panthers and Buccaneers.
20:13Losing to Dallas was one thing, but having the lead we had against Tampa at home with a
20:1817-point lead and then losing that game.
20:21Hartley has it on its way!
20:23And no!
20:24He missed it wide to the left!
20:26It was the one time when we kind of had our mini-crisis.
20:30When f***ing Silicon!
20:32Yes you are!
20:33Get the look off your face!
20:35And have some nuts!
20:37It wasn't just Garrett.
20:39I had a nickel for every time the Cowboys ended an undefeated team that went on to win
20:53the Super Bowl.
20:54I have two nickels.
20:59It was kind of an important gut check for all of us because this was happening right
21:06before the beginning of the playoffs.
21:09No team had ever lost their last three regular season games and gone on to win the Super Bowl.
21:15And those kind of misses can destroy a kicker's confidence.
21:19As a young kicker, you're going to miss one like that.
21:22You're going to feel like you let everybody down and it's going to be devastating.
21:26But you find out a lot about a guy when something like that happens to him.
21:31You know, adversity really shapes you.
21:34And it's very ironic that he would have that almost the exact same kick in a much bigger
21:41situation about a month later than the NFC Championship game.
21:47I remember turning to him saying, hey, you carried that bat out here now.
21:52You better play well.
21:54Fortunately for us, he backed it up.
21:57Here's a run left side.
21:58It's Reggie Bush breaking free.
22:00Bush to the 30.
22:0125-20.
22:02Bye-bye birdies.
22:03A 46-yard touchdown gallop by Reggie Bush.
22:08Great job.
22:08Great job.
22:09Great job.
22:10We were prepared for that game.
22:13You know, scoring 35 points in the first half.
22:15Just felt like every time we touched the ball, we were going to score a touchdown.
22:17Pitch back.
22:18Flea flicker.
22:18Freeze.
22:19Loads and locks it and throws it downfield.
22:21And it is caught.
22:23Caught by Henderson at the goal line for the touchdown.
22:27The Saints took a commanding lead.
22:30The defense made sure it would stick.
22:37Saints showing blitz.
22:39Coming off the corner.
22:40Warner steps up and throws it.
22:42And it's intercepted.
22:43Will Smith.
22:45And there is a player shaking up.
22:47And that is Kirk Warner.
22:50To his credit, Warner was coming up and trying to make a tackle.
22:55That was Will Smith.
22:58Very blindside, but you know.
23:00They've made a tremendous play.
23:02And I'm ready to run to go lead block to him.
23:05And all of a sudden, I see Bobby McRae coming on a beeline for Kirk Warner.
23:10And I could hear that one running.
23:12And I was like, oh, God, he got hit.
23:16Hey, he became a defender.
23:18Got to defend yourself.
23:20Obviously, he brought the word.
23:21And I really just set the tone.
23:23Warner returned.
23:24But the Saints rolled to a 45-14 victory.
23:28What's up, man, baby?
23:31Let's get it.
23:32Let's get it.
23:32Let's get it.
23:33We are so proud of you guys.
23:35You go through the bye week.
23:37And all this bull about being rusty.
23:40So much for the rust.
23:45To have success in the NFC Championship, the Saints would have to get after Brett Favre, just as they had
23:52Kirk Warner.
23:58This is, I would say, the biggest sporting event in the history of New Orleans.
24:05You know, we were both undefeated for a while.
24:07And then even after that, you know, there was a stretch where, hey, we're 12-0 and they're 11-1.
24:13So, as the season went on, it was almost like we knew how this thing was going to play out.
24:17We're going to play the Vikings in the NFC Championship game.
24:20And may the best team win.
24:24In a matchup of season in the making, both teams started strong.
24:31Hand off Adrian.
24:32Sprint by.
24:33Touchdown!
24:35At first, Adrian Peterson was a concern.
24:38And then he started fumbling.
24:39Hand off goes to Adrian Peterson, and he dropped it again.
24:43Adrian fumbled.
24:44Once he had those fumbling issues, now it's back on, the onus is back on Brett Favre.
24:49They're going to come back to that play.
24:51Why?
24:54Adrian Peterson only has himself to blame for why he never played in the Super Bowl.
24:59And they probably could have won.
25:03Action now.
25:06Let's hit this guy.
25:08Only NFC Championship appearance, if I'm not mistaken.
25:13He's throwing up his back foot, across his body.
25:17He gets hit countless times.
25:19Gets right back up.
25:23Brett Favre was just creamed by Darren Sharper.
25:26How the hell are they hitting the quarterback?
25:28They hope that this pressure, later on in the game, is going to get to Favre, and he's going
25:32to get inaccurate.
25:33This guy's going to make a mistake now.
25:35I promise you.
25:36Fortunately, we knew that Brett Favre would eventually do what he does.
25:40He's a gunslinger, so he's going to try to fit him into tight spots.
25:43He's going to try to squeeze him in there.
25:44Favre pumps, delivers, and it is intercepted.
25:47It's Filma, back on his feet to the 31-yard line, and Favre is shaken up.
25:53Brett Favre is down.
25:55Definitely wasn't intentional to high long.
25:57We don't play that way, but it worked.
25:59He was hurting.
26:00He was hurting bad.
26:01Favre is out of the game.
26:02Favre is done.
26:04Hey, Favre is done.
26:07Favre didn't miss a series.
26:09You thought the NFL's ultimate Iron Man was going to be done, even if he was 40?
26:18He would never sit out of a game if he could still walk.
26:23The game was tied at 21.
26:26Coach Payton needed a new piece of gum.
26:29I need a piece of juicy fruit.
26:32You know, I'm not very superstitious.
26:34It's the only one, for whatever reason, five pieces of juicy fruit in the first half,
26:39five in the second half, two packs total.
26:42If we're not doing well, we'll get another piece in there,
26:45and if we're doing well, we might just grind on that piece a whole half.
26:49Unless, of course, it's the wrong type of gum.
26:52Can you get me juicy fruit, not spearmint?
26:57I have seen him get on one of our quit managers something for, you know,
27:02giving him the wrong flavor of gum.
27:04Tell Bob, I want f***ing juicy fruit.
27:08I think the spearmints and all those other ones have just been
27:11not quite as consistent as juicy fruit.
27:14That's our piece.
27:17Listen, whatever works for Coach,
27:19whatever gets the competitive juices flowing, so to speak.
27:24In the huddle.
27:26Drew, pay attention here.
27:27You like this goal?
27:28Ready.
27:29380.
27:30Ready, set.
27:30Breeze in the shotgun.
27:32Looks over the middle.
27:34Steps up.
27:34Can't find anybody.
27:35Rolls to his right.
27:36Looks around.
27:37Throws to the one-yard line.
27:39Let's go!
27:40Yes!
27:41Yes!
27:42An eruption of volcanic proportions here in the Louisiana Superdome.
27:49The Vikings tied the game, and the ball was in Brett Favre's hands with a chance to win
27:54it at the end of regulation.
28:00Little by little, the Vikings are driving, and you knew they needed one more completion
28:05to get into field goal range.
28:07You know, offensively, I'm just thinking, just get us back on the field.
28:09Just give us another chance.
28:11They had preached takeaways all season, and never needed one more than this moment.
28:17So now it would be a 55-yard field goal if the Vikings were able to go no farther.
28:24Favre, half-roll out to the right, has all sorts of time.
28:27Throws it, and it's accepted!
28:29This is Tracy Porter!
28:31He's coming back with it to the 40, and taken down at the same 47-yard line.
28:35As we will go to overtime, it's 28-all.
28:40I'm going to mix it up!
28:41Favre made his mistake.
28:43His typical Favre mistake.
28:46Let's go win this game!
28:47Come on!
28:48Let's go!
28:56So it comes down to this.
28:59Garrett Hartley with a chance to be the biggest hero in recent Saints memory.
29:04The irony is, we're right back in the same location as we were versus Tampa Bay a few weeks ago,
29:11where he had missed.
29:12So, you're just wanting to deliver confidence.
29:14The protection's been great all day with these guys.
29:17I'm just talking about up front.
29:19And there were these Florida Lees sitting all around the stadium.
29:23There's one right between the uprights.
29:25I remember just telling them, look, why don't you try to hit this effing Florida Lee here right in the
29:30middle.
29:30You just groove this thing.
29:31I don't want you thinking about anything but hitting that Florida f***ing lane.
29:35I'll carry you in.
29:37Just hit your kick, though, son.
29:39Here's why.
29:40You deserve to be here.
29:43This will be a 40-yard field goal attempt, right hash mark.
29:48Let's go to the Super Bowl, boys, right here.
30:10Let's go to the Super Bowl, boys.
30:13Let's go.
30:14Let's go.
30:15Let's go.
30:17Let's go.
30:26he knocked over gumbo
30:30let's give some credit to number 11
30:33you saw him walking around
30:34that's Mark Brunel
30:37with a championship
30:39level
30:40ball holding
30:45I'm kidding
30:46but that was Mark Brunel
31:08I love you man
31:09that was something else
31:10it was
31:11hey
31:12it was like you four years ago
31:14huh
31:14thank you about it
31:18eight or nine people
31:19other players in the front
31:20give me Bilba
31:21and we're good
31:22I want Bilba
31:24we're fine
31:24we got plenty of room
31:25I want Bilba
31:26that's all
31:26come on
31:27get up here
31:29can't say no to coach
31:30I go up there
31:32and you know
31:33he tells me
31:33you know
31:34we couldn't have done this
31:34without you
31:35and you know
31:36that really made me feel special
31:38because you have a head coach
31:39an offensive coach
31:41that really has this much
31:42respect for you
31:43no way
31:44there's no way
31:44you're not going to be up here
31:45I appreciate it
31:46I appreciate it Sean
31:47we got one more still
31:49we're still
31:49outside the Superdome
31:52they were literally
31:53dancing in the streets
31:55nobody's going to bed tonight
31:58sleep is so overrated
32:00Vilma deserves a lot of credit
32:02as great as Drew Brees is
32:04as good as Sean Payton was
32:06they were there
32:08and they kind of
32:09you know
32:09it had some success
32:11Vilma was the guy they needed
32:13he was the last
32:14missing piece
32:19this is for everybody
32:20in this city
32:21this stadium used to have
32:23holes in it
32:24it used to be wet
32:25it's not wet anymore
32:27this is for the city of the warrants
32:36defense was working
32:39they got to Kurt Warner
32:41they got to Brett Favre
32:43could they get to Peyton Manning
32:45the league MVP
32:47Greg Williams
32:48certainly thought so
32:50you know the big thing is
32:52is that he throws the ball
32:53so early
32:54that we're going to have
32:55to do a good job
32:56of finding ways
32:57to get to him
32:58and then when we do
32:59get to him
32:59then we're going to make sure
33:00we have a couple of
33:01remember me shots
33:02when we get there
33:04you know
33:04we're on the players
33:06about not giving
33:07the opponent
33:08anything to write about
33:10you know
33:10and here it is
33:10the defensive coordinator
33:12gets quoted
33:12so
33:13Tuesday morning
33:15what is he supposed to say
33:17how do you think
33:18you're going to do
33:19against Peyton Manning
33:22the best quarterback
33:23of this decade
33:24best guy in the league
33:26I don't think
33:27we can touch him
33:29what do I look like
33:30saying that
33:31what would I look like
33:32saying that
33:33as a Super Bowl
33:34capable team
33:39Super Bowl
33:40is media day
33:41and I had one
33:43of the waiters
33:43bring over
33:44at breakfast
33:45two glasses
33:46two jars
33:46of peanut butter
33:48crackers
33:49and some sand
33:50for Greg to dine on
33:51before we went
33:52to media day
33:53I think he got
33:54the message
33:56the Colts
33:57were favored
33:57by a touchdown
33:58that week
33:59Sean Payton
34:00sought advice
34:01from mentor
34:01Bill Parcells
34:02their conversation
34:03sparked an idea
34:04for what would become
34:05the greatest gamble
34:06in Super Bowl history
34:07code name
34:09Ambush
34:10we felt we needed
34:11to gain a possession
34:12somehow
34:13you know
34:13Bill's someone
34:14I'm close with
34:15and he drew
34:16some comparisons
34:16to the championship
34:18game in 1990
34:19they had run a fake
34:20punt against the 49ers
34:21late in the game
34:22it's going to be a fake
34:23they run across
34:24the 50
34:2545-40
34:2535-30
34:26down to the 25-yard line
34:28what a run
34:29by Gary Reasons
34:30the Giants won
34:32in an upset
34:32so the idea
34:34of stealing
34:34a possession
34:35you know
34:36started really
34:36with a fake punt
34:37we just couldn't
34:38find the look
34:39that we wanted
34:40so we went
34:42the route
34:42of the onside kick
34:45we started practicing it
34:47and Morissette
34:48was hitting the ball
34:49on point
34:50on the money
34:50every time
34:51and then sure enough
34:52he tells us
34:53we're going to run it
34:54in the Super Bowl
34:55Sean Payton came
34:56into the meeting
34:56and said
34:57it's not a matter
34:57of if we're going
34:58to run this
34:58it's when
34:59that was still
35:00confidence in you
35:01and it's still
35:01confidence in that
35:02kickoff team
35:03because they knew
35:04it was coming
35:05and Ambush
35:06not working
35:06was not an option
35:08Ambush had to work
35:09we were going to
35:10make sure it did
35:16all right Michael
35:17I want you
35:18a bunch of
35:19onside kick
35:21just a surprise
35:22just you know
35:22it's Ambush
35:23Mike to left
35:24we're going to line up
35:25and all of a sudden
35:26just kick one
35:28sideways
35:28no sideways
35:29it's an easy one
35:34we're ready
35:35at the Super Bowl
35:36when you see
35:37Spike Lee
35:38and then you see
35:39Queen Lateef
35:40and Carrie Underwood
35:41Carrie
35:44it's one after another
35:45of people
35:47that are very successful
35:48and they're all watching
35:50I gotta pee
35:53it was the most
35:54watched television event
35:55in American
35:58history
36:00this is what we have
36:01been waiting for
36:02two number one seeds
36:03matching up for the
36:05first time in 17 years
36:06all season long
36:07we've been special
36:08Super Bowl 44
36:10did big numbers
36:11but it's not the most
36:12watched anymore
36:14but it hit huge numbers
36:16like 150 million
36:18Americans
36:20big numbers
36:20all season long
36:21we've been special
36:22right here

36:33sets
36:33throws
36:34into the end zone
36:35Garcon
36:35touchdown
36:39Indianapolis went down
36:40and scored on their
36:40first two possessions
36:41you know
36:41all of a sudden
36:42it's 10-0
36:43and we're trying
36:44to regroup
36:44I'm thinking
36:45base inferno
36:46I don't know
36:46how you like that
36:47that's fine coach
36:49you love it?
36:50I love it
36:50alright
36:52late in the second quarter
36:53the Saints gambled
36:54on a fourth and goal
36:56and lost
36:57hands it off
36:58Pierre Thomas
36:59Thomas is going to be
37:00taken down
37:01for a loss of about
37:02a yard on the play
37:04they trailed 10-6
37:06Peyton still had ambush
37:08up his sleeve
37:08and more importantly
37:10the guts to call it
37:12coming off the field
37:13at halftime
37:14you know
37:14you've got 35 minutes
37:16here of the who
37:19and somewhere between
37:21teenage wasteland
37:22and pinball wizard
37:23we decided that
37:25this was going to be
37:25on this
37:26a lot of good things
37:28in the first half
37:29there's a joke that goes
37:30uh
37:31listen to the who

37:57game
37:59let's go get this
38:00game
38:01coming back on the
38:02field
38:03I recognized that
38:04this ball was going
38:04to be kicked on the
38:05Colts bench
38:06and that would have
38:07been a big mistake
38:08quickly I had a chance
38:09to just tell the
38:10officials
38:11hey we want to go
38:11right to left
38:12not left to right
38:13let's do this
