00:03Good evening, you're watching Super 6 here on India Today.
00:06I'm Akshita Nandagopal.
00:07As we keep our focus on the West Asia board,
00:10there are several questions being asked
00:11on exactly what India's stand is on this conflict.
00:15Prime Minister Modi today has said very clearly
00:17that India stands for peace
00:18and that military conflict is never the solution.
00:21We're standing by for his speech in a few moments from now,
00:24but we begin with the top headlines.
00:31And let's get you all off the big headlines
00:34that are coming in right now.
00:36India has condoled the death of Khamenei
00:40by signing off officially on the condolence book.
00:44The Foreign Secretary Vikram Mishri visited the Iranian embassy.
00:47External Affairs Minister Jaish Shankar also spoke
00:49to Iranian Foreign Minister Abbasarabchi.
00:54Prime Minister Modi calls for peace amid West Asia wars
00:57as military conflict is never the answer.
00:59as a solution through dialogue and diplomacy.
01:04The West Asia theater of war is expanding
01:07after Turkey intercepts Iranian missile 2 drones strike Azerbaijan.
01:12The Asadov government says they reserve the right to retaliate
01:15and summon the Iranian envoy as well.
01:19Amid raging war, U.S. tests the Minuteman 3 ballistic missile,
01:23also known as the Doomsday Missile, off the California coast.
01:26It's capable of carrying nuke warheads
01:29and is 20 times more powerful than Hiroshima.
01:34At least 87 dead after U.S. submarine torpedoes,
01:38Iranian warship of Lankan coast,
01:40Iran seeks Sri Lanka's help to repatriate dead bodies of the sailors.
01:49And also, the other big national headline,
01:52Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar to step down,
01:54files nomination for Rajasabad.
01:56Dex cleared for the first BJP chief minister in Bihar.
02:01Sun Nishant Kumar may enter politics as a deputy chief minister.
02:17And let's begin with breaking news that's coming in
02:20at the top of 6 p.m. here.
02:22Israel conducts another wave of strikes on Iran.
02:25This is the 12th wave of strikes in these attacks.
02:29The headquarters of the special unit of the Iranian regime
02:33responsible for all internal security forces was attacked.
02:37The headquarters commanded all of the special units
02:40of the Iranian terror regime in the district
02:43and serves to direct the regime's armed forces.
02:46So this is yet another strike.
02:49Iranian media has also reported that the dead toll
02:51has now risen in Iran as a result of these strikes to 1,230.
02:58That's the number of casualties.
02:59Remember, Iran has maintained.
03:01There's no official figure at this point by other countries.
03:05Iran claims 1,230 people have died in this conflict.
03:10But let me bring in Pranay Uppar.
03:11There are four more details on this particular strike,
03:14the latest wave of strikes by Israel on Iran.
03:18Pranay, the targets are military headquarters,
03:21establishments that will essentially weaken the Iranian regime.
03:25runners through the latest targets of these strikes.
03:28We are almost across the 120 hours of this conflict
03:33and now Israeli air force in Israeli defense forces
03:36have put out the social media force clearly indicating
03:39that they have now, beyond the air defense systems of Iran
03:43and in fact beyond the air assets of Iran,
03:47the military targets of Iran,
03:48now they are targeting the IRGC's military command force,
03:51IRGC's infrastructure, IRGC's intelligence gathering apparatus.
03:56This clearly indicates that now they are full throttle
04:00to dismantle and to destroy the regime structure,
04:06the Islamic regime of Iran.
04:08And this clearly shows that this has entered into a phase
04:10where we can also see more collateral damages
04:14because, you know, these streets of Iran,
04:18where these offices, where these establishments are,
04:20they are swelling with the, you know, people
04:22because people are, a large number of people are already on the streets
04:25protesting, you know, the assassination of Ayatollah Ali Samnei,
04:29the supreme leader.
04:30And in fact, now, if you see that how U.S. Department of War
04:35has put out their statement and they said that, you know,
04:38that now onwards, they will be entering into a different phase
04:42of this operation because they are already into the sixth day
04:45of this operation.
04:46And in the next phase of the operation,
04:48they will be targeting and dismantling the entire government
04:51or the entire administrative structure of IRGC
04:55and the Islamic government of Iran.
04:58All right.
04:58So the strikes continue.
04:59Pranay, thanks very much for getting us all of those details.
05:04But let's also tell you about what's been playing out
05:06in support of Iran.
05:08There are a handful of countries who've condemned
05:11the strikes by U.S. and Israel.
05:13Key among those, Russia and China.
05:15So these allies of Iran, obviously for vested interests,
05:19are also opposing very clearly the strikes
05:21by U.S. and Israel, have a key role to play
05:24in what's going to happen in the next few days.
05:26What do I mean by that?
05:27On one hand, you've got China that's even open,
05:29as they say, to playing mediator in this crisis.
05:33Can that actually happen?
05:34Can that be a success?
05:35Well, we'll have to wait and watch.
05:37Or was it just lip service from China?
05:38On the other hand, Russia, which has constantly condemned
05:42the strikes by America, by Israel,
05:45has even now threatened that they will cut off gas supply
05:49to parts of Europe, which will therefore
05:51instigate a further economic crisis
05:54and economic meltdown across the world?
05:56Let's get you those details of how Iranian allies now
05:59are responding to the conflict that's unfolded.
06:16The war drums in West Asia are only getting louder.
06:27Messiahs are flying, oil routes are choking,
06:30and global powers are stepping in with urgent warnings.
06:35As Iran and the U.S.-Israel combined refuse to back down,
06:39diplomatic pressure is now building from the world powers
06:42to prevent the war from spiraling further.
06:47Russian President Vladimir Putin has issued a stark warning to Europe.
06:53According to reports, Russia could halt gas supplies to Europe
06:57amid a spike in global energy prices triggered by the Iran crisis.
07:02The warning comes as the EU considers banning purchases of Russian gas and LNG.
07:09Russia is pushing for U.S. and Iran to resume negotiations as soon as possible.
07:17We're looking forward to a peaceful resolution of contradictions.
07:23The U.S. and Israel, we're preparing attacks.
07:30We've been in contact with the Iranian side and we are hopeful that the attacks stop at the earliest
07:41and the negotiations resumed.
07:43The widening conflict has rattled global energy markets,
07:47sending Brent crude prices sharply higher amid fears of disruption.
07:52Analysts warn that even the threat to key shipping routes
07:55could push oil prices beyond $100 per barrel if tensions persist.
08:01With tankers facing delays and insurers reconsidering coverage,
08:05freight rates are expected to surge,
08:08while refiners in India are already exploring alternative crude supply sources
08:13to hedge against potential shortages.
08:16The Strait of Hormuz, one of the world's most critical energy choke points,
08:21is just 33 kilometers wide, with shipping lanes barely 3 kilometers wide.
08:26Nearly 20 to 21 million barrels of crude oil pass through it every day,
08:31along with vital LNG shipments from Qatar.
08:37But the ongoing war has severely disrupted traffic through the strait,
08:41with Qatar halting LNG production and Saudi Arabia shutting down its largest oil refinery.
08:51Diplomatic pressure is also mounting from China.
08:55The Chinese foreign ministry has pushed for urgent negotiations
08:59and announced plans to send a special envoy to the region in an effort to revive talks.
09:08But Iran remains defiant.
09:11Tehran has rejected cause for immediate negotiations,
09:14arguing that the negotiating table itself was attacked first by the US and Israel.
09:22We were in the negotiation table.
09:25They destroyed the negotiation table.
09:28They started the war.
09:30You know that.
09:31At the first time,
09:34the elementary schools,
09:36elementary school targeted to the aggression.
09:41They killed 160 girl students.
09:47This is terrible.
09:49This is terrible.
09:52So while diplomacy is scrambling to catch up,
09:56the battlefield continues to dictate the peace.
10:01With Geeta Mohan,
10:03Bera Report, India Today.
10:13And China in its pitch to also mediate right now on the conflict
10:17is also to send its envoy to the Middle East.
10:21So China seems to be ramping up efforts to play peacemaker of sorts.
10:25Amid this escalating war,
10:27China has confirmed that it will be sending a special envoy to the region,
10:32to the Middle East.
10:33Now what they're trying to do is also send out a message of peace,
10:37extend an olive branch to Middle East countries saying,
10:39we will ensure that we mediate and bring peace to the Middle East region.
10:45Now exactly where in fact they will be based,
10:48where will this envoy be based,
10:50which are the countries who they will have a conversation with.
10:52We don't have those details just yet,
10:55but a special envoy,
10:56the Chinese foreign ministry has confirmed,
10:58will be immediately sent across to the Middle East.
11:02And China it seems is serious about attempting at least,
11:05to play a mediator role here.
11:07As far as China is concerned,
11:09it's got skin in the game effectively.
11:11And that's because repeatedly there's been a focus on exactly how Iran and China
11:16have been very closely linked.
11:19In fact,
11:19it is sum of a whole lot of Iran supplies also come from China,
11:24including a very active rail route between China and Iran that we'll highlight for you.
11:28Amid that China,
11:30while talking of mediation,
11:31is also to send an envoy to the Middle East,
11:34which has of course been rocked by the strikes,
11:37effectively become a casualty of the conflict between US, Israel and Iran.
11:50So let me also now give you a sense of the countries and where they stand
11:55as far as this conflict in West Asia is concerned.
11:59I want to put out for you that particular data of which countries right now are siding with Iran.
12:06Let's take a look at that as well.
12:08You've got China, you've got Russia on the side of Iran,
12:13but Pakistan as well that's come out to condemn the strikes by US and Israel on Iran.
12:20Pakistan, many suggest, is in a catch-22 situation of sorts.
12:24And that's because of the fact that, you know,
12:27you've got on one hand Iran, a Muslim nation,
12:30and on the other Pakistan has been trying very,
12:32very hard to kind of reach out to the US and be in the good books of US and Israel.
12:36So much so they're on the Gaza Board of Peace as well.
12:40China, Russia, Pakistan on the side of Iran.
12:44So very little support essentially that Iran has right now.
12:48Not many other countries willing to really back them as far as the Middle East itself is concerned.
12:53Many are highlighting the fact that with what's happened in the last few days,
12:58Iran faces the threat of alienation from some of their somewhat friendly neighbours.
13:02That's no longer the case and that's because of Iran going all out to strike these US bases.
13:07That's led to a few civilian casualties as well.
13:10So none of the Middle East countries have taken to it kindly.
13:13At this point, as you can see, just about three countries on the side of Iran.
13:20But the theatre of war is expanding.
13:23More and more countries are now being dragged into this conflict.
13:28If it started off with just US, Israel and Iran, that's no longer the case.
13:33Now we're seeing a lot more of other countries being dragged into the conflict, whether it's Turkey.
13:40In the last 24 hours, Turkey and Azerbaijan have been dragged into this particular war as well.
13:47Missiles were intercepted in Turkey and other attack has now been reported from European nationals.
13:52Azerbaijan, which has claimed that Iranian drones struck two locations in the country.
13:56According to Azerbaijan's foreign ministry, one drone crashed into the airport terminal building, injuring two people.
14:03The second drone reportedly struck near a school building.
14:07Azerbaijan has strongly condemned the attack, saying it reserves the right to retaliate.
14:10The government has also summoned the Iranian ambassador, seeking an explanation.
14:15Meanwhile, fresh explosions have also been reported from Doha, the capital of Qatar.
14:19Qatar's defence ministry claims its air defence systems intercepted incoming missiles.
14:24The Israel Defence Forces says it continues to pound Iranian targets and has released a video that it claims showing
14:30the downing of a fighter jet, the Yak-130.
14:34Fighter jet it claims has been downed.
14:38So first, Qatar, followed by Bahrain and Kuwait, all so-called friendly neighbours of Iran, now in the heart of
14:45this conflict.
14:46Unprecedented strikes took place in the UAE.
14:49We saw those images from Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
14:52The wave continued westwards.
14:54Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Iraq were all dragged in.
14:57Another country dragged into this conflict is Lebanon, struck by Israel while targeting Hezbollah positions.
15:03The escalation then moved along the Gulf Coast.
15:06Strikes were reported in Oman.
15:08And now into the Mediterranean.
15:10Cyprus with a UK airbase there was targeted.
15:14And then you had Turkey as well.
15:16The war appears to be spreading even further because, as I told you, Azerbaijan now has also seen two strikes.
15:23Let's get your breaking news that's coming in.
15:32And Prime Minister Modi has spoken to French President Emmanuel Macron.
15:36Prime Minister Modi has confirmed on social media that he's had a conversation with President Macron,
15:40who he refers to as his friend, saying,
15:43We discussed our shared concerns over the evolving situation in West Asia and the need for a return to dialogue,
15:50to diplomacy.
15:51We will continue to engage closely and coordinate efforts towards the early restoration of peace, of stability in the region.
16:00And so Prime Minister Modi, in that conversation with the French President,
16:03has spoken about the return to dialogue, the return to diplomacy.
16:07Remember, France has also, in fact, said that they will back U.S. in their operation,
16:13helping also actively, militarily, by moving some of their military assets.
16:17In such a situation, Prime Minister Modi, speaking to French President Macron,
16:21has reiterated the need for dialogue, for diplomacy, putting out India's stated position,
16:27that the most important aspect is to ensure that peace is brought back.
16:33Prime Minister Modi, I will play out that statement for you.
16:35The Prime Minister earlier today, while speaking, did highlight that there is a need to ensure
16:41that military conflict is not the immediate solution that arises from any conflict.
16:47And so India has said very clearly, whether it's the Russia-Ukraine war or what's playing out in West Asia,
16:54military conflict is never the solution.
16:56It's in line with that, that Prime Minister Modi is also speaking to several world leaders,
17:01including the latest being French President Macron.
17:07India and Finland,
17:10India and Finland, both rule of law, dialogue and diplomacy in the dialogue of diplomacy.
17:17We have one thing that we can say that in the military conflict,
17:27ॐ ॐ ॐ ॐ
17:53ॐ ॐ ॐ
17:57ॐ ॐ
18:00ॐ

18:12ॐ
18:12ॐ
18:23ॐ
18:24concerns over West Asia and that there is a need for, in fact, dialogue and diplomacy to return
18:32to that to ensure peace. The question that will come up is how is it possible in the current
18:38scenario where any attempt of dialogue seems to immediately be rejected? US very clearly saying
18:47that there is no question of any dialogue. Now, let's cut across to more breaking news coming in.
19:00And let's also tell you about the latest updates coming in on Israel's strikes in Iran. They've
19:06launched now on their latest round of strikes. They've attacked a missile launcher in Iran.
19:12And it's not just in Iran, but also in Lebanon, in Beirut, Hezbollah command centers have been
19:18decimated, eliminated completely. The Israeli defense forces have said and issued an urgent
19:25alert for residents living in Beirut's southern suburbs saying, save your lives and evacuate your
19:32homes immediately. This is the message that's gone across from Israel as the strikes continue
19:38in parts of Lebanon, in parts of Iran as well. An alert has been issued telling everyone living
19:46in these areas to immediately leave. The messaging there then is that Israel isn't backing off.
19:52They are going to continue their strikes going after Hezbollah. And so they're saying, save your
19:57lives, leave immediately. This even as we've been seeing the strikes taking place in Beirut of Lebanon,
20:05Israel is targeting not just pockets of Iran, but pockets of Lebanon to take on their Hezbollahs who
20:12continue to also attempt to strike Israel. So this is a multi-pronged conflict as you can make out.
20:18And even for Israel, there isn't just one single enemy, but many that they're now targeting.
20:30So this is the latest update that we're getting you right now. You can see the images on your screens
20:36released by Israel. They've been doing this every 24 hours to kind of show off their might,
20:42show off the impact that their strikes have had in pockets of Lebanon as well as pockets of Iran.
20:49These Israeli strikes continuing in Beirut right now, leading to alerts and advisories being issued
20:56by Israel. Israel continues to maintain that our war is not against the people of Lebanon.
21:00Our war is not against the people of Iran, which is why these alerts are being put out to ensure
21:06minimum casualties as far as civilians are concerned. But the footage on your screens once
21:12again shows you exactly how these precision strikes are being carried out, something that's
21:17now being referred to as the new normal in war. Precision strikes that target that exact
21:23pinpointed location and therefore ensuring that even civilian settlements around the area
21:29do not face the brunt of this particular conflict are not struck. There has, however, of course,
21:35been that one incident that was reported where you had a school in Iran being destroyed as well
21:42as a result of a misfire. Iran maintains that the number of casualties in this war has gone up to
21:481,230. Mayan Hoffman is joining us live from Jerusalem with the latest updates. Mayan,
21:55we understand the strikes on the part of Israel continue. You can confirm for us, however,
22:00that as far as Iranian strikes, or for that matter, Hezbollah strikes on Israel is concerned,
22:05that's definitely reduced in the last 24 hours.
22:10That's correct. Israel continues to strike Iran. They just finished their 12th round of strikes against
22:14the Iranian regime there in the country. They're saying that they've launched over 5,000 bombs on
22:21Iran since the start of the war, and they've killed more than 3,000 Iranian military and activists.
22:28So Israel is continuing there. On the other side in the north, as you know, once Hezbollah decided a few
22:33days ago to join in this war, Israel has been doing targeted strikes in Lebanon as well. We're seeing
22:38them, you know, just hours ago distribute leaflets out to all of the people saying leave certain areas
22:43so that Israel could carry out the necessary strikes. Now here in Israel, we have seen reduced strikes.
22:48However, just about an hour ago, a little bit less, we had an alert in Israel, a siren for a
22:54rocket
22:54coming in with no warning in advance. People were rushing to their shelters just a very little bit
22:59ago. We also saw that going on in central Israel. This morning, we also had quite a mishap when around
23:0410.30, a siren was sounded and an El Al plane bringing about the second or third plane, a rescue
23:10flight of Israelis who were stranded abroad about to land at the airport. When Iran fired a missile,
23:16a siren went off and the plane was forced to reroute and to stop until that alert was over.
23:22Yeah. All right, Mayan, thank you for those updates. We're going to keep connecting with you to get a sense
23:27of what's really happening in parts of Israel and also to understand what exactly the Israeli government
23:33stand is here and what's playing out in the days to come. We're going to continue getting you those ground
23:38reports and details of how this conflict continues to expand. Will any mediation actually help?
23:46We'll continue tracking all those updates.
