Transcript
00:15good evening i'm keita mohan and you're watching india today global day 33 of the war and trump
00:20has softened his stand on west asia trump has said he's ready for ceasefire if the strait of
00:27homos reopens sources have said to uh some of the news agencies that vice president vance has been
00:34asked to convey a message to the intermediaries that america is looking at a ceasefire should the
00:41strait of homos open up yet again all eyes on trump's speech tomorrow at 6 30 am ist so log
00:48on
00:48or watch india today global for that speech meanwhile foreign minister of iran arahchi has
00:54said that only iran and oman will decide on the strait of homos rejecting any proposal made by
01:01iran according that that trump has claimed now the united states has deployed additional naval forces
01:07to west asia signaling a deepening crisis with iran even as president trump said the u.s could exit
01:15within two to three weeks contradicting earlier statements of his now his shifting stance from
01:21regime change to nuclear deterrence and back and now opening of the strait of homos has raised
01:27questions about u.s strategy meanwhile tensions with nato allies have grown and iran's leadership
01:33has rallied domestic support amid continued u.s israeli strikes maha shweta lala with this report
01:43ahead of donald trump's address to the nation a third u.s carrier strike group uss george hw bush
01:51with three ali burr class destroyers were deployed and have joined uss jiral r ford and uss abraham
01:58lincoln in the middle east but as the deployment signals a further deepening crisis with iran
02:04president trump told reporters at the oval office that the united states will leave iran in two to
02:10three weeks in contrast to his earlier claims that the u.s is not ready to leave yet but we're
02:17not
02:17ready to leave yet but we will be leaving in the near future we'll be leaving in pretty much the
02:24very
02:24near future but right now they've been decimated from every standpoint within uh two weeks maybe two
02:33weeks maybe three we're hitting them very hard last night we knocked out tremendous amounts of
02:37missile making facilities we as you probably read or wrote the sudden shift in u.s policy towards iran
02:45has fueled speculation about intention of u.s in west asia at the onset of the war trump and his
02:53administration had stressed on iran's need for a regime change which then quickly changed into
02:59obliterating iran's capabilities of possessing nuclear weapons if we didn't hit within two weeks they
03:06would have had a nuclear weapon if we didn't do the b2 attack a number of months ago they would
03:11have a
03:12nuclear weapon and when crazy people have nuclear weapons bad things happen but today he went back
03:19again to talking about regime change we had to take a little detour because we had a madman named
03:25khomeini who sadly is no longer with us and we had regime change already we've knocked out one regime
03:33then we knocked out the second regime now we have a group of people that's very that are very different
03:37they're much more reasonable i think much more much less radicalized it's a we've had regime change
03:44if these oscillating statements from the u.s president was not enough trump told reporters
03:50that iran did not have to make a deal this comes amid the 15 point plan proposed by the u
03:56.s which was
03:57relayed to iran by pakistan so we are now having really good discussions they started uh last night
04:07a little bit the night before that and uh i think they're you know i think they're very good
04:14they want to they want peace they've agreed they will not have a nuclear weapon you know etc etc
04:21but we'll see you have to get it done but i would say there's a very good chance
04:24no they don't have to make a deal with me when we feel that they are for a long period
04:30of time
04:31put into the stone ages and they won't be able to come up with a nuclear weapon then we'll leave
04:38whether we have a deal or not irrelevant now it's possible that we'll have a deal because they want
04:44to make a deal they want to make a deal more than i want to make a deal meanwhile relations
04:49between the
04:49u.s and nato have strained further with u.s secretary of state marco rubio saying that the alliance
04:55between the u.s and nato countries have to be re-examined even president trump had in his post
05:02earlier talked about how europe has been very unhelpful and suggested the countries to get
05:09their own oil we are going to have to re-examine that relationship we're going to have to re-examine
05:15the value of nato and that alliance for our country ultimately that's a decision for the president to
05:19make and he'll have to make it we're going to finish the job here as i said we're very very
05:24close
05:24to achieving our objectives on on all of these things that i've outlined but i do think unfortunately
05:28we are going to have to re-examine whether or not this alliance that has served this country well
05:34for for a while is still serving that purpose on the other hand trump in his latest post has also
05:40said that iran is seeking ceasefire and that u.s will continue pounding iran till the strait of
05:46hormuz is opened meanwhile iran's foreign minister abbas sarachi joined iranians in a rally to mark
05:54islamic republic day commemorating the establishment of the islamic republic system in the country and
06:01showing their solidarity amid u.s israeli attacks with mahasweta lala bureau report india today
06:12and my colleague pranay upadhyay joins me for more on this he is in tel aviv and today
06:19has been one of the worst days in tel aviv when it comes to bombing when it comes to sirens
06:24pranay take
06:25us through what's happening on the ground this is massive escalation when it comes to iran and israel
06:32absolutely gita in last 24 hours it's been like the over 970 uh missile attack alerts across israel
06:40and in fact if you talk about the city of tel aviv where i am right now the morning started
06:44with
06:45blaring sirens and missile attacks and not very far from the place where i am standing right now
06:50there was an missile impact though no one got hurt but as per the the the emergency response team
06:56uh reports and statistics uh over 29 people injured today and that includes a 13 year old
07:02girl who's critically injured and is uh you know being treated in the hospital so this remains a reality
07:07but uh you know if you take the larger picture here that uh you know uh the the uh the
07:13today's uh
07:14last 24 hours have been intensification of fight or a conflict uh at a time when president
07:19donald trump is increasingly giving indications and uh you know the signals that there could be
07:23some kind of a resolution there could be some kind of uh uh some kind of deal uh and he
07:28could uh go
07:29for uh you know change in his strategy and can go for some kind of a ceasefire as well though
07:35he's
07:35expected to address the nation and we have to wait for his address but uh before that he had his
07:40telephony conversation with uh with uh king uh muhammad bin salman crown prince of saudi arabia and
07:46besides that he also had rounds of consultation
07:49right pranay the fact that you mentioned the conversation with uh with mbs crown prince of
07:55saudi arabia but how is israel looking at the latest post of donald trump where he's saying
08:01and calling for a ceasefire but also asking for the opening of the strait of homos which
08:07before the 28th of february was always open
08:12you know gita interestingly uh this will be uh uh you know the statement or these address of your
08:19us president dollar trump should be seen in conjunction with the uh the statement given
08:24by uh israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu around the same time and you know that uh you know
08:29what he said uh he listed out 10 achievements of uh his operation roaring lion where he listed out that
08:36how uh he has weakened iran or iran's capacity to to endanger lives in israel and to threaten iran
08:44uh and threaten israel and this is what uh the operation roaring lion has already achieved so
08:49that is also being seen as some some kind of indication that uh if the leaders are start
08:55starting uh if the leaders are stating all these statements and if they are saying that they have
09:00already achieved uh you know a sizable or a tangible amount of you know things which they have said for
09:05this operation this is uh this is being seen as some kind of indication however there is an
09:11intensification as well uh you know ahead of any kind of announcement from president donald trump
09:16but we are seeing that you know uh the israeli air force is carrying out operation across iran and uh
09:22also the the missile interceptors are also working around the clock here in in tel aviv and across israel and
09:28what we have seen today uh gita that it's a beginning of the passover festival which is a jew festival
09:34and uh on on the first day of this passover festival we have seen the coordinated attack
09:38you know the iranian and hezbollah coordinated attack in the northern part of israel and iranian
09:43and in uh and yuti's coordinated attack in the southern part of israel and clearly in the central
09:48part of australia also came under attack today right the war began during ramzan and has escalated to
09:55another level during the passing over pranay stay safe you've been reporting from israel we'll keep
10:01coming back to you and have been reporting uh putting out your dispatches but stay safe for now
10:06thank you for joining me like pranay pointed out houthis have come in the war just took a dangerous turn
10:15a new front has opened and the global economy is now directly in the line of fire here's a detailed
10:20report on how the houthis have escalated this conflict and why the world is watching two
10:25critical oil choke points with growing concern
10:31one month into america's war on iran a war let's be clear that nobody asked for except america
10:38the chaos just leveled up the houthis of yemen fired missiles at israel and here's the twist these
10:45guys sit right next to one of the world's biggest oil choke points babel mandib strait
10:52iran has already blocked the other critical choke point which is the strait of homos
10:56now yemen's most battle-hardened militia stepped into the ring sitting right on the top of a second
11:03choke point the babel mandib that could send oil prices from painful to catastrophic america ever the
11:11overconfident gambler kicked over a table in a room full of armed people and somehow looked surprised
11:18when everyone started shooting back world leaders from paris to canberra publicly said no thank you
11:24and yet washington floated a ground invasion so india today global argues with the houthis in a second
11:32straight on the brink and the whole world exhausted by a war america selfishly started does this end or
11:39does it just keep getting worse america kicked over the table the room is now fully armed and firing
11:46back the houthis have joined babal mandib theaters oil prices climb allies peel away and the question
11:54of how this ends remains stubbornly and expensively unanswered but a new front has opened and it's called
12:02the babal mandib the gate of tears ironically a fitting name thank you for watching statecraft
12:11to watch the entire show please log on to india today global's youtube channel you'll
12:19be able to see the entire show on how the war of theater has expanded but to discuss this i'm
12:25being joined by senior journalist sandeep unathan sandeep uh thank you so much for joining me the war uh
12:30theater now is not confined to the strait of hormuz which is what president trump wants reopened
12:37while babal mandib has come under attack and a threat to the closing of babal mandib as well
12:44absolutely geeta and you know uh let's not forget that there's a third choke point in the arabian
12:50peninsula it's not just the strait of hormuz it's not just babal mandib it's uh further up northwest
12:57a couple of hundred kilometers away you have the suez canal now iran we all know has missiles longer
13:03than the stated range of 2000 kilometers it has the capability and the capacity to strike at ships
13:09that are passing through the narrow suez canal as well so here you have one of the most important
13:15geographies in the world as far as energy goes that is the arabian peninsula where nearly half of the
13:21world's oil and natural gas flows through is under the control is under the sway of iran and iran has
13:28played this it has game this it has prepared for this day uh for several decades now this horizontal
13:35escalation that it is uh you know undertaken in the last month or so is a game that it has
13:40prepared for
13:41and uh this is what the united states is finding out uh under president trump that they uh provoked iran
13:48they've attacked iran of course iran has suffered grievous losses it has its military has been hit
13:55several times but the fact is that it retains the escalation uh dominance guitar the fact is that it
14:03has up the game it is up the ante it has blocked the strait of hormuz where literally one-fifth
14:10of the
14:10world's oil and gas passes through and through its uh proxies the houthis in babel mandap it holds
14:17another choke point at risk literally it has uh the arabian peninsula in a bag right on that note sandeep
14:26thank you so much for joining us and sharing that perspective it's straight of homos babel mandap and
14:32like now sandy says the swiss canal so we'll have to wait and see what the swath yet is going
14:38to look like
14:38after president trump's address at 6 30 a.m ist tomorrow morning wars in west asia have caused
14:46massive human and economic losses with thousands of civilians including children killed in iran lebanon
14:53and gaza infrastructure has been destroyed leaving many without basic necessities while casualties
14:59continue to rise on all sides the financial cost of war is also soaring surpassing spending on
15:05critical sectors like health care highlighting the growing global burden of conflict this is the cost
15:12of war wars have been fought to topple dictators to bring down legitimate governments in the name of
15:27delivering justice to the oppressed but every war has a cost not only monetary but also lives of the
15:35innocent caught in the ambitions of the kings and oppressors the west asia war which has entered the
15:41second month at the beginning saw the death of 167 girls including teachers of an elementary school in
15:48iran's minam u.s israel strikes have killed most of the top iranian leadership most prominent being ayatollah
15:57ali khamenei and lari johnny a us-based rights group hrana said 3492 people have been killed since the war
16:09erupted it said more than 1500 of those were civilians including at least 236 children the international
16:17federation of red cross and red crescent societies said at least 1900 people have been killed and 20 000
16:24injured in iran strikes have damaged properties houses leaving most of them homeless with frequent
16:32blackouts no proper food and water supplies as distillation plant were blown to cause infrastructure
16:38failure to iran lebanese authorities say 1268 people have been killed in israeli strikes since march 2nd
16:48including at least 124 children more than 400 fighters from hezbollah nine lebanese soldiers were
16:55killed since march 2nd meanwhile three united nations peacekeepers from indonesia were killed in two
17:02separate incidents in southern lebanon one from a roadside explosion the other involving a projectile
17:09missiles launched from iran and lebanon have killed 19 people in israel the israeli military said
17:1610 of its soldiers were also killed in southern lebanon 13 u.s service members have been killed
17:22while 12 u.s troops were wounded in a strike on prince sultan airbase in saudi arabia according to
17:29pentagon the first six days of war in iran cost u.s taxpayers at least 11.3 billion dollars in
17:36munitions
17:36alone excluding cost of operating and maintaining the military force engaged in the war or battle damage
17:43sustained from iran's attacks and the amount spent on munitions in the war's first days is more than
17:49congress allocated to the national cancer institute which was 7.4 billion dollars meanwhile israel's war
17:57in gaza too has seen death and people being displaced according to the gaza health ministry as of
18:04february 21st 2026 more than 73 000 palestinians have been reportedly killed in the gaza war according to a
18:12report by the unicef in 2025 64 000 children have reportedly been killed or maimed across the gaza
18:20strip including at least 1 000 babies famine malnutrition especially among infants have caused lasting harm
18:29to children's growth and development according to two reports from the cost of war project
18:34us has backed israel with more than 21 billion dollars since october 2023 to sustain its wars
18:42across west asia thus spending on wars have risen more than spending on infrastructure and
18:50development projects pushing the world in a quagmire with maha shweta lala bureau report india today
19:04america's average gasoline prices were above four dollars a gallon as the us-israel war on iran
19:11royals global energy markets the four dollar per gallon milestone was last reached in august of 2022
19:19after russia invaded ukraine some analysts have called this level a psychological barrier for consumers
19:26prices for crude oil used to make gasoline have all also surged along with prices for many goods since
19:34the strait of homos was blocked u.s households were already squeezed by rising costs even before gasoline
19:41prices started to rise trump had vowed to lower energy prices and ramp up u.s oil and gas production
19:52china and pakistan called for an immediate ceasefire in the gulf and the wider middle east that's west
19:58asia urging swift launch of peace talks and restoration of normal navigation in the strait of
20:04homos as their foreign ministers met in beijing ishak dar who is pakistan's deputy prime minister and
20:10also the foreign minister was received by wong yi at the dru thai state guest house ahead of their
20:17bilateral meeting both countries have called for talks to end the u.s israeli war on iran islamabad
20:23had said it is ready to facilitate peace talks between washington and tehran pakistan which shares a more
20:30than 900 kilometer border with iran has emerged as a key mediator thus visit to china at the invitation
20:38of wong is very crucial at this juncture wong yi welcomed pakistan's efforts in mediating saying
20:44china supports and looks forward to pakistan playing an important role in easing tensions and helping
20:50resume peace talks meanwhile china and pakistan have jointly issued a five-point initiative on
20:57restoring peace and stability in the gulf and the wider region the initiative calls for the immediate
21:03secession of hostilities starting peace talks as soon as possible ensuring the safety of non-military
21:09targets shipping lanes and safeguarding the primacy of the united nations charter the visit comes after
21:16pakistan hosted the foreign ministers of qatar saudi arabia and turkey to discuss the ongoing crisis
21:27yesterday wong yi member of the political bureau of the cpc central committee and minister of foreign
21:33affairs held talks with deputy prime minister and foreign minister of pakistan mohammad ishagdar
21:39they had an in-depth exchange of views on the situation in the gulf and middle east region and
21:45reached important consensus following the meeting china and pakistan issued a five-point initiative
21:50on restoring peace and stability in the gulf and middle east region which can be summed up in three
21:57words secession talks and insurance namely the immediate secession of hostilities starting peace talks as
22:05soon as possible ensuring the safety of non-military targets shipping lanes and safeguarding the primacy of
22:12the united nations charter from trump's troubles with war to trouble with his ballroom project a u.s
22:25judge said on tuesday that president donald trump cannot construct his planned 400 million dollar ballroom
22:31on the site of the white house's demolished east wing without approval from the congress u.s district
22:37judge richard leon granted a request for a preliminary injunction by the national trust for historic
22:43preservation a non-profit organization that brought a lawsuit alleging trump exceeded his authority when
22:49he raised the historic east wing and launched construction on the new building here is what donald trump had to
22:57say i leave you with what he said with that it's goodbye from you well we'll appeal that but it's
23:04not
23:04i don't know this it's basically i mean i wrote i wrote a part of his opinion but basically he's
23:12saying i need
23:13congressional approval and he's so wrong this is being financed privately it's a donation that's being given by
23:23companies very rich companies very rich people so that for 150 years they've wanted a ballroom
23:30here we're going to have the finest ballroom i believe anywhere in the world
23:33and he said we need congressional approval well they don't get congressional approval from the white
23:39house when they do things they don't especially when you don't we didn't ask for any tax money we
23:43have no taxes this is taxpayer free we have no taxpayer putting up 10 cents and
23:50i see right here i just wrote it out he said we need congressional approval
23:54well we built many things at the white house over the years they didn't they don't get congressional
23:58approval when they build in the white house it's totally separate and especially when it's a
24:04donation i mean the ballroom is a donation it's gotten great reviews people love it and presidents
24:10for 150 years have wanted this ballroom to be built because when we have president xi or other
24:14presidents or prime ministers coming we have a big room we have the east group which is very small
