00:29and we have new video in showing a massive fire at an oil refinery in Saudi Arabia, one of the
00:36largest in the world.
00:37The death toll for U.S. forces since this war has began now stands at six after a counter-strike
00:44against a U.S. facility in Kuwait.

01:22The largest strikes, the big wave, that still has not yet been launched.
01:28Today, top Trump administration officials are going to be briefing all members of Congress on this ongoing operation.
01:34CNN is following absolutely some critical hours ahead.
01:38Nick Payton-Walsh, thank you so much, Nick, for your reporting.
01:40Sarah, and with all of this, oil prices surging as Iran now threatens to attack any ship that tries to
01:46pass through one of the busiest shipping channels in the world.
01:49Of course, sparking new concerns for U.S. gas prices.
01:53And also, no warning, no sirens.
01:56There are new details coming in about the Iranian strike that killed six U.S. service members.
02:01As the war with Iran continues to expand, and with President Trump promising and threatening that the biggest wave of
02:07strikes is still yet to come, one place feeling the impact immediately, oil markets.
02:13And Iran is now threatening to attack any ship traveling through the critical shipping channel, the Strait of Hormuz, that
02:18sees about a fifth of the world's oil production go through.
02:21CNN's Matt Egan joins us now.
02:23All signs point to it's going to go higher and higher.
02:26Give us some perspective on this.
02:27Yeah, Kate, look, another day, another spike for oil prices, and this is rattling investors around the world.
02:32Crude hit 77.
02:34That's the highest since last June after the U.S. and Israeli attacks on facilities in Iran.
02:41And look at this massive increase in gas prices.
02:46This 3.11 is the new national average, up by about 11 cents in one day, Kate.
02:52That's the biggest one-day increase since Hurricane Katrina in 2005, and it's all because they're slightly higher than they
03:01were at this point last year.
03:03So why is this happening?
03:04Well, of course, you've got to look at the Strait of Hormuz.
03:06There are coverage for ships going through here.
03:08On a typical day through the Strait of Hormuz, there's about 60 oil tankers.
03:14But on Sunday, there were just five, likely even fewer than that yesterday and today.
03:20And that's a big problem because that's how all the gold...
03:23Let's look at live stock futures right now.
03:25Looking at a 1.4% drop for the Dow, almost 700 points, a little bit steeper for the Nasdaq.
03:31And that's after U.S. markets barely flinched yesterday, but the higher oil prices go.
03:37Long is this operation going to last becomes a...
03:40Continues to be a critical question on multiple fronts, including this.
03:43Thank you so much, Matt.
03:44Thank you, Kate.
03:45Sarah.
03:45All right. Thank you, Kate.
03:46They had video showing smoke rising from a makeshift operations center where the service members were when the attack happened.
03:55You can see it there off in the distance.
03:57CNN's Zach Cohen has more on the details that are coming in about this tragedy.
04:02Zach, what are you learning?
04:04Yeah, Kate. We're told that U.S. troops in Kuwait...
04:07Six U.S. service members now confirmed killed in this attack.
04:10Zach, thank you very much for bringing that to us.
04:13The polls are open already in North Carolina.
04:15They're about to open in Arkansas and Texas.
04:17The first primaries of this midterm election season and at stake nothing short of control of Congress, of course.
04:24There are two races, though, that people are paying especially close attention to, both in Texas and both having to
04:30do with the Senate.
04:31So let's go there.
04:32CNN's Arlette Sainz is in Dallas for us this morning.
04:35Lay it out for us.
04:36What's going to happen today, Arlette?
04:38All right.
04:39Arlette, thank you so much.
04:40A big day playing out in Texas and more states.
04:43So begins the election season.
04:46Arlette, thank you.
04:47A new hour.
04:47CNN News Central starts now.
04:48Let's talk about this right now.
04:49Joining me now is Democratic...
04:50Thanks so much, Sarah.
04:51As part of Iran's retaliation, it's effectively shut down the critical shipping channel in the Strait of Hormuz.
04:57And now U.S. gas prices are seeing the largest one-day jump since Hurricane Katrina.
05:02We're tracking this for you this morning.
05:04And with wave after wave of Iranian drone attacks and retaliation,
05:08big question is now growing of could U.S. allies in the Middle East run out of what they need
05:14in terms of air defense?
05:18The U.S. embassy in Saudi Arabia is now shut down.
05:21The embassy also just issued a pretty frightening warning that there is, and the way they put it out is,
05:25a threat of imminent missile and UAV drone attacks in the eastern Saudi city of Dharan.
05:31The Trump administration is also now telling U.S. citizens to not come to the U.S. consulate and take
05:36cover immediately, is their message.
05:38The U.S. embassy in Kuwait also closed after suspected Iranian drone attacks.
05:42And there's this video out of Saudi Arabia showing one of the world's largest oil refineries on fire.
05:49The Sumar is one, a long-range ground-launched cruise missile that is potentially nuclear-capable.
05:55It has an estimated range of 3,000 kilometers.
05:58There's also the Sajil, a medium-range ballistic surface-to-surface missile.
06:03It has a maximum range of 2,000 kilometers or more than 1,200 miles.
06:07And then there's the Shahid drones that we've talked so much about that are flown directly into targets.
06:13They're cheap.
06:14They're effective.
06:14They also have a maximum range of 2,000 kilometers.
06:18Iranian state media post video, Clarissa, of one of those drones flying right over your head, your team's head,
06:24just showing how real this is.
06:26What's happening now?
06:29The journey to get to Turkey takes many, many hours.
06:33So a lot of complexity and a lot of anxiety that this situation is continuing to escalate with no clear
06:39off-ramp in sight, Kate.
06:41Absolutely.
06:41Clarissa, thank you so much to you and your team with your continued reporting.
06:44Let's go over now.
06:45Paula Hancock, who's standing by as well in Dubai.
06:49What's the latest on the attacks that you're learning about in the UAE?
06:55Stuck.
06:56Paula, thank you so much for that.
06:58Let's go to northern Israel right now.
07:00That is where Nick Payton Walsh is standing by.
07:03Nick, there's just so much activity going on.
07:05Where do you want to begin?
07:09Respondents and teams throughout the region right now.
07:11Sarah?
07:12Thank you so much.
07:13She's really talking about one example of how immediate disruptions have been setting in because of this war.
07:19U.S. markets are a half hour from opening bell right now, and you can see what direction they are
07:24heading here.
07:25Oil prices have been surging once again this morning.
07:28What this war now means for, well, all markets and U.S. gas prices.
07:33That's coming up.
07:34Republican Congresswoman Nancy Mace is now facing an ethics probe,
07:37facing allegations over improperly billing her congressional office for reimbursements.
07:46Take cover immediately.
07:47That's the new directive from the U.S. consulate in Saudi Arabia to Americans.
07:50The U.S. embassy there also warning of the threat of imminent missile and drone attacks coming from Iran,
07:56and already two U.S. embassies in the region are shut down.
07:59And the new message now coming in from President Trump,
08:02declaring this morning that Iran's air defense, air force, navy, and leadership is gone.
08:07Is that the reality on the ground, and what then is the president's endgame?
08:12And it's election day in key primaries today,
08:15with races in Texas being closely watched as a powerful Republican senator is facing his most serious challenge yet.
08:22I'm Kate Baldwin with John Berman and Sarah Seidner.
08:24This is CNN News Central.
08:26Take cover immediately.
08:27That's the new directive from the U.S. consulate in Saudi Arabia to Americans.
08:31The U.S. embassy there also warning of the threat of imminent missile and drone attacks coming from Iran,
08:36and already two U.S. embassies in the region are shut down.
08:40And the new message now coming in from President Trump,
08:43declaring this morning that Iran's air defense, air force, navy, and leadership is gone.
08:48Is that the reality on the ground, and what then is the president's endgame?
08:52And it's election day in key primaries today, with races in Texas being closely watched as a powerful Republican senator
09:00is facing his most serious challenge yet.
09:03I'm Kate Baldwin with John Berman and Sarah Seidner.
09:05This is CNN News Central.
09:06There's new video coming in from Iran.
09:10Thousands of people said to be gathering to mourn the deaths of some 168 children killed in a U.S.-Israeli
09:18attack on a girl's school there.
09:20What the Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, is now saying about it.
09:25And we're also getting new video in from an airport in Thailand.
09:28Thousands of travelers just stranded as they're trying to get home to the Middle East and what they're left to
09:35do now.
09:36And polls are open in Texas, North Carolina, and Arkansas, the first primaries of the midterm elections.
09:43Questions there.
09:44Joining us right now to talk about kind of the state of things and his new reporting seen in political
09:48and global.
09:48And there were no sirens and no warnings.
09:51Those are some of the new details that CNN is learning this morning about the Iranian strike that killed six
09:56U.S. service members in Kuwait Sunday.
09:58Video shows smoke rising from a makeshift operations center where the service members were at the time of the attack.
10:05CNN's Zach Cohen has more reporting on this, and he's joining us now.
10:08Zach, what more are you learning about what has turned into a tragedy?
10:14Yeah, the facility was completely blackened.
10:17And so we do expect, as President Donald Trump has said, more potential U.S. casualties.
10:22And so this number of six is almost certainly expected to increase.
10:26Yeah.
10:27Zach Cohen, thanks for the reporting, Zach.
10:28I really appreciate it.
10:30John.
10:30Before the Senate, this is her first time appearing before Congress since the Trump administration's immigration enforcement surge in Minnesota
10:38that has faced so much criticism.
10:40She is also facing questions right now about potential threats to the United States homeland since the attack on Iran.
10:47CNN's Annie Greer is on the Hill following all of this.
10:49What have we heard so far, Annie?
10:53And she's hearing, and it'll be a long day here for Secretary Noem.
10:57Yeah, I believe Tom Till has even called her incompetent, among other things, in terms of her leadership of the
11:03department so far.
11:05Annie, thank you so much that, as we see Senator Durbin, who was just on the show with us talking
11:09about this, he's continuing his line of questioning.
11:11We'll continue to give you updates as they come from there.
11:13Also next for us, polls are open, and voting is underway in three states, the first primaries of this midterm

11:37These are the first primaries of this midterm election season.
11:41And at stake, of course, is the control of Congress.

11:50do with the Senate.
11:51So let's go there.
11:52Arlette Saenz is at a polling place in Dallas.
11:54What's the latest from there, Arlette?
11:57Go.
11:59Poof!
12:00She disappeared.
12:01I didn't know she was gone.
12:02She'll be back.
12:03Don't worry, guys.
12:04She had a thing.
12:04She had a thing.
12:05The show ends at 10.
12:07Did someone tell Sarah?
12:07What?
12:08I didn't know that.
12:09It's fungible.
12:09Our math is very fungible.
12:11This has been CNN News Central.
12:12Good job calling her out.
12:13Maybe Sarah's in the Situation Room.
12:14Maybe not.
12:14I'm next.

12:15Maybe.
