The Ullal Police Station have registered a suo motu case after a provocative social media post threatened to explode a bomb near a mosque in the Ullal area of Dakshina Kannada district. A search operation has been launched to trace the person behind the post.

The threat was posted from an Instagram account named “Shankar11916”, which stated, “I will explode a bomb near a mosque in Ullal, please support me.” The comment quickly went viral, triggering public outrage.

Police sources said the post appeared on an Instagram page displaying the photograph of Suhas Shetty, identified as a Hindu organisation activist who was murdered earlier. Considering the sensitive nature of the matter, police acted swiftly to prevent any escalation.

Sudhir Reddy, Commissioner of Mangaluru City Police, has directed officials to immediately arrest the accused. Authorities have reiterated that strict action will be taken against those spreading religious hatred or fear through social media.

Police have urged the public to act responsibly online and refrain from sharing provocative content.

In recent months, several cases of inflammatory social media posts have surfaced in Mangaluru. The Cyber Crime Police recently arrested an individual for an objectionable post about Kadri Manjunatheshwara Temple. A few months earlier, the Commissioner had warned of invoking the Goonda Act against a group for posting Instagram reels with derogatory remarks targeting a specific community.

Given the sensitivity of Mangaluru city and Dakshina Kannada district, the Cyber Police are maintaining continuous surveillance through a dedicated Social Media Monitoring Cell. Strict action is being initiated under the IT Act and BNS against not only those who create such posts, but also those who like, share, or comment on provocative content.
