00:00Should the Giants grab Notre Dame running back Jeremiah Love at number five,
00:04or do they still have PTSD from drafting Saquon number two years ago?
00:08Former Giants running back and regular contributor to Good Morning Football,
00:13Rashad Jennings is on to talk running backs.
00:16We talking about running backs.
00:19What's up, my guy?
00:20We in here.
00:21I'm good, man.
00:22I'm back in Virginia, so I got a different smile on today, man.
00:25I feel good.
00:26Virginia is for lovers, and, you know,
00:28it's the only thing that we're talking about, Jeremiah Love.
00:31There's some reports out there that the Giants are in the market for a running back.
00:35So if they don't address the running back issue in free agency,
00:40people are calling Jeremiah Love a top five player in this draft.
00:45Not a running back, top five player.
00:47But is grabbing Love fifth overall too much of a reach for John Harbaugh?
00:52Does that make sense to you?
00:55I can make sense out of having an outstanding running back in the backfield at all times,
01:00especially now you think about two, having two.
01:03You look at the sample across the league.
01:06Everybody who's actually going on in the playoffs and going on and winning in the National Football League
01:12and the championship, they got two back systems.
01:14Look who just won.
01:15You got Charbonnet, and then you have the little mighty man himself, right?
01:20Like, so when you look at across the league, everybody who has a two back system usually ends up prevailing.
01:26So I wouldn't, I don't mind it at all.
01:28I mean, I get the argument for the reach, but Jeremiah Love is somebody who's,
01:33we're going to say it's like a Jamal Charles.
01:36He's like a, he's like a Jameer Gibbs, a little bit slower.
01:40But when you say a little bit, you're talking about Jameer, a little is still fast.
01:46You know, we're looking at Alvo Kamara, all these things.
01:49Alvo Kamara is a special player.
01:50Like, so who wouldn't want to add that type of caliber to their roster?
01:54That's a big playmaker ability.
01:56And he can catch out the backfield.
01:58He's limber.
01:58And now if you actually go look at a lot of his film, he's lead blocking a lot of times,
02:04especially when last year when Ridley was the quarterback.
02:07But so he's a physical specimen.
02:09He's smart.
02:11He's agile.
02:12He could do any and everything.
02:13And I think he's strong enough to run between the tackles.
02:16So he's an every down back.
02:18But I also get having Scatterboo, having Tyrone.
02:21I mean, you don't, you're looking at both of them and it's like, hey, look, we got these two.
02:26I think we need to address some other areas first.
02:28But if you're going to go with a home run hitter, Jeremiah Love is it.
02:32Well, let's go back a little bit because remember,
02:34Saquon Barkley was a home run hitter coming out of Penn State.
02:37I mean, the dude did everything.
02:39But there's still a lot of Giants fans out there that had that PTSD over that Saquon experiment,
02:45grabbing him with the number two pick and it not working out.
02:49It worked out for him, but it didn't work out for the franchise.
02:52So does John Harbaugh, does Joe Shane, do they come in, like,
02:57do you feel like they still feel some sort of way about trying to grab a running back in that
03:03top five?
03:05I don't.
03:05I don't.
03:06I think it's coming from a different era.
03:08John Harbaugh, he's been around the game for a long time.
03:10He knows how to build a championship roster.
03:12So I don't think he's getting to the emotional side of what a lot of fans are looking at.
03:17Rightfully so.
03:17I get it to PTSD with Saquon.
03:20We drafted a guy who's clearly one of the best backs in the league.
03:23We see what he's been able to do over there in Philly.
03:25But nobody in all running backs run the same when there's nowhere to run.
03:28The only person that did differently was Barry Sanders.
03:31That's why he's the best to ever do it.
03:32But I don't care what running back you have dotting the eye of.
03:35If there's nowhere to run, we ain't going nowhere.
03:39So I think they're going to stabilize the offensive line.
03:42Focus on that.
03:42We got a quarterback coming back that we really love.
03:44We got one of the top wide receivers in the league, arguably.
03:47Top ten for sure.
03:48I think just as pure talent wise.
03:50We don't know what he can contribute to as an asset as far as having a whole season under him
03:55with Jackson Dart.
03:56We got two really good tight ends.
03:58You got some solid running backs.
04:00A lot of excitement in Scadaboo.
04:02He's like the Scadaboo is like one of the lives of the NFL.
04:08He's exciting because when you think about football, you think old school, right?
04:12Old school, hard nose, like pound football.
04:15I mean, he's your modern day Bradshaw, if you will, for Giants fans to understand the net.
04:22Like he's special.
04:23And so I think it's fun and an energy to have him on the football field.
04:27And we'll see if he can carry a load next season.
04:30But I think the running back room is kind of open on how they're going to, you know, be a
04:34one-two punch or not.
04:35All right.
04:36So you got Scat.
04:37You got Tyrone Tracy Jr.
04:39So let's say they pass up on Jeremiah Love at five.
04:41Are there any other running backs in this draft that you think the Giants should be eyeing with maybe that
04:4637th pick or maybe even a later round if they don't get love in the first?
04:53Yeah.
04:54A lot of these backs this year, I feel like fourth, fifth round, a lot of them are going to
04:59go.
05:00Late round guys, I don't see any available.
05:03I think this year, as far as a running back position, you either go big, quick, all right, and get
05:11Jeremiah Love or you just wait this one out.
05:13You also got some guys at free agency if you think you need to plug and play in a free
05:19market.
05:19But I don't know, man.
05:20I think you either get Jeremiah Love or you stick with what you got and really pack your bullets in
05:25every other area.
05:26Because the Giants were the best team last year that had a terrible record straight up.
05:35And one of the best teams, I think, between the Giants and the Tennessee Titans have the ability to have
05:40the quickest turnaround season that we've seen.
05:43So when we go in the free agency, which kicks off in a couple weeks here, Kenneth Walker, Super Bowl
05:49MVP, he's one of those late round guys that kind of went off with his opportunity.
05:55Now he's going to command the bag.
05:57Travis Etienne, Isaiah Pacheco has that familiarity with Matt Nagy, Rico Dotto.
06:03Those are some of the top name backs in free agency.
06:06Again, we talked about it.
06:08They got Scat.
06:09They got Tyrone Tracy Jr.
06:11But do any of those names that I kind of mentioned feel like that could be a fit for a
06:15Matt Nagy offense
06:16and the Giants to add that guy as a third back to the running back room?
06:21No, I don't.
06:22I feel comfortable with Tyrone.
06:24I think he's a special player.
06:26I really do.
06:27His ability to be a wide receiver.
06:29Him and Jeremiah Love are very similar in certain areas where they're raw runners.
06:34They low-key can play receiver if you needed them to, and that's Jeremiah Love.
06:39He can focus.
06:40He could have been a receiver.
06:41He's still raw to the running back position.
06:44Tyrone is raw to the running back position.
06:46He's special.
06:46He's unique.
06:47And I think with a pounder like Scataboo and mixing it up, I don't think either you go big or
06:53you just wait it out.
06:54Now, if I'm a businessman, I'm waiting this out for another position.
06:57And the only reason why is because, man, there's some other talented players.
07:02There's some other holes I feel like that the Giants want to make sure that they fill in the gap
07:07for going into this season.
07:08We already have the best head coach in the NFC East this season coming up.
07:13We have some of the top talent in the NFC East this season, and now we've got to figure out
07:17how to make sure we put it all together into pieces,
07:19not just a special fire player in one position in a running back spot when you have some really good
07:25play.
07:27I think I'm torn between.
07:28I like Love.
07:29If you get him, great.
07:31If not, we've got to just think about the rest of the team in this season because, like I said,
07:36I truly believe this.
07:37The Giants will have the quickest turnaround season, especially under the leadership of John Hobo this season.
07:43Yeah, that might be the one we use as a social clip right there.
07:48You eat for free around New York City, you say that.
07:51They love you for that.
07:53Hey, Sean, appreciate you hopping on with this, man.
07:57Yeah, anytime, man.
07:58You know what?
