00:00Hi, if I talk about my graduation and schooling, so I did my schooling from St. Anselm School from Alwar
00:06itself, my hometown.
00:08Post that I moved to Delhi for doing my undergrad in Bachelor's of Commerce from Kamala Nero College, one of
00:16the prominent colleges of University of Delhi.
00:19Apart from my academics, I would also like to mention that I am also a national level basketball player.
00:25So, I played basketball. I have been to national level and represented my state multiple times.
00:32If I talk about how it got started, when I was in class 7, I started playing basketball by joining
00:38a summer camp.
00:40And there, my coach saw me and he asked me to come for practice regularly. And that is where I
00:46started playing basketball.
00:48Lately, if I think about it, think about basketball as a sport. So, yes, it is a sport that I
00:55enjoyed a lot. I am still in practice.
00:58But apart from just playing it, it taught me many life lessons like decision making, punctuality, discipline.
01:05Like how it is important for pursuing a particular career. And this is something that has helped me to frame
01:14a bigger picture for me and make my career in finance.
01:18So, when I joined Soil, I was disciplined, I was resilient and I was passionate about pursuing my career in
01:26finance.
01:27But finance as a subject was very rigorous and I have no experience in how to go about with the
01:35subject.
01:35So, I was very skeptical about the subject as well. But the faculty, the curriculum, the course was designed in
01:42such a manner
01:43that helped me to, you know, overcome all these problems and get into and being comfortable with the subject.
01:50If I talk about the networking part, so there are, yes, there are lots of guest sessions, workshops, seminars,
01:57where people from outside come from finance background and they teach us lectures.
02:01And apart from that, they take our workshops. So, after that, we can connect with them.
02:06We networked with them. Also, we had a visit to EY, where we connected with the managerial managers of the
02:15company and we had a word with them.
02:17They were very passionate about what we are doing and they were also passionate about what we are looking for
02:24them.
02:25And all this also helped us what is exactly happening in the industry right now.
02:30So, apart from the bookish knowledge, we are also getting the hands-on experience by going onto the ground and
02:37seeing the things practically.
02:39So, before coming to soil, before being introduced to the concept of design thinking,
02:45I used to face a situation like I have a problem and I'm directly going to the solution without, you
02:52know, analyzing it,
02:53without going for any pros and cons of it.
02:55But after being introduced to the concept of design thinking, I got to know that after knowing a problem,
03:02it's not just a problem and not just jumping towards the answer all of a sudden.
03:08You first have to analyze the problem. You have to set the context.
03:11You have to search for certain alternatives.
03:13And then after reading them all, you are finally, you can finally reach to a conclusion, finally to a solution.
03:20So, this is what design thinking taught me that problem is not just solving it.
03:27It is also about looking into the context of the problem, going for certain alternatives, what all can be done.
03:34And then giving up an appropriate answer, which is a win-win situation for everyone.
03:39And we can also relate it to the basketball, to the game I played.
03:43Like on the court, we do not jump, we do not all of a sudden react to a situation blindly.
03:49We have to see the situation.
03:52We have to judge where my players are, where I am, where the defense is.
03:57So, by looking every aspect of it, then we go on to the decision whether to pass the ball or
04:04not or what to do with that.
04:05So, finance as a subject is very intense, rigorous and of course requires a lot of focus and practice from
04:12you.
04:12And being a student from having no experience in such a core financial course and studying it here at Soin,
04:22it was challenging for me.
04:24But the course, the curriculum was designed in such a manner that it got so smooth for me.
04:29Like with learning part also, if I also, if I talk about some of my favorite subjects in finance, to
04:36name a few like corporate finance, securities and portfolio market analysis, business valuation and financial modeling.
04:44These are very important subjects for finance as well.
04:47But also at the same time, these were very like touching subject for me.
04:51I like them.
04:52I love to, you know, practice them and know more about them.
04:55And this is where, this is what helped me while facing my interview at S&P.
05:00So, at S&P, the interview was all around business valuation, financial modeling, all around securities and portfolio analysis and
05:09corporate finance, which we had studied from our year one itself.
05:14If I quote few of the questions that they asked from me, like what, how you, how to use the
05:21DCF valuation, when to use it.
05:23And I also talked about my academic project on valuation that I did.
05:30Around 10 to 15 minutes was on my project only.
05:33Like, what the project was about, how you did valuation, why you used relative valuation, why you used DCF valuation,
05:40what was your final conclusion, what if your projected value is more, less than the DCF valuation.
05:47So, these were some of the questions that were asked to me.
05:49Questions related to economics were also asked.
05:51Like, how reporate is affecting the overall economy.
05:55Can reporate be negative?
05:57What all can be the situations?
05:59Like, how currency appreciation, depreciation is going to affect the economy?
06:04So, these were the questions that were asked to me.
06:06Questions related to bond market were also asked.
06:10So, we have this very interesting project, this term, of business valuation and financial modeling.
06:17So, where we were asked to value a company, uh, based on the stock prices.
06:23So, uh, for that purpose, I took JSW Cement, which was coming for its IPO.
06:28It was recommended by the faculty that you can, you should, uh, or it is beneficial for you to go
06:34for a company for, which is coming for an IPO.
06:37Because it is slightly difficult to find the past data.
06:40So, for that, I directly jumped on to this company, which was setting up its new plant.
06:47The whole crux of the project was that, uh, by doing such projects, we literally got hands-on experience.
06:54Like, how valuation is being done and how the college and the faculty helped me to try, uh, to come
07:02on to a final figure.
07:03I have been placed at S&P Global as operational analyst role and I am very much excited to join
07:10the company as soon as possible because the company and the role both of was of my choice was my
07:18dream role, my dream company.
07:19And I am very much excited to join with them.
07:23The, if I talk about the job role, so yes, the job role aligns with what we have studied during
07:28our MBA curriculum, uh, MBA journey.
07:30It is about managing bond market, pricing data, managing CDS, or any other kind of defaults.
07:38So, I, I, I was, I won't be able to give you the whole crux of what exactly it is,
07:44but yes, it is all about what I have been, uh, I have learned in finance and what our teachers,
07:51our faculty have made us to learn.
07:53At last, I want to say that basketball taught me discipline, design thinking gave me direct perspective and finance gave
08:01me direction.
08:02So, so, it never asked me to change what I am and who I am.
08:05Definitely the journey was transformational and I got to learn many things, but I finally can say that it helped
08:14me to, uh, transform my strengths into impact.
08:17So, ah, straight away.
08:17You got to, uh, what I am, I will not understand.
08:19You got to learn more about what I am saying?
