00:00I'm curious to know what exactly happens in theater.
00:03If you were in a similar situation, how would you handle it?
00:06The CFO's role, the auditor's role.
00:08And not to be scared of expressing who I am.
00:15The reason we created this week-long course on exploring ethical dilemmas through theater
00:22is because ethics is a very important part of our soil curriculum.
00:27When other schools teach ethics, they teach case studies,
00:30they have some courses by people based on lecture method.
00:35And we thought that people really need to deeply explore within themselves
00:39what are the dilemmas they face when they have to apply ethical solutions.
00:44When this course had just began,
00:47we were very curious to know what exactly happens in theater.
00:51We've always seen it on the screens and never experienced it ourselves.
00:56So, almost everybody was excited to actually dive into it and learn new things.
01:02I have witnessed how much it has helped in magnifying me as an individual.
01:07When I say magnifying, the obvious thing is confidence.
01:10But it's not just the confidence.
01:12It is empathy, compassion, teamwork, patience, working towards the same goal, challenges.
01:19On the first day, we discuss our weaknesses and our strengths.
01:23And many came out with weaknesses and strengths that other students had not realized.
01:29Which means that they were together for one.
01:30They've been here for the whole year.
01:31It's towards the end.
01:33But they said, we didn't know this about this one.
01:35We didn't know this about that one.
01:37You know?
01:37So, from the word go, you offer them a place of honesty.
01:42Theater and acting is not just about you expressing your emotions or just about storytelling.
01:48Definitely, it plays a very important role.
01:50But in the story itself, there are various dilemmas where you're supposed to take decisions.
01:56So, decision making is a very important thing in theater.
01:59In the capsule that they take, which is from a case study at the Harvard Business School,
02:04I actually tell them, break them up into these, you know, modules of six kids, seven kids, eight years, nine students here.
02:11And tell them, if you were in a similar situation, how would you handle it?
02:14For example, in the very first year, we used Satyam as a case study.
02:19We made students play the role of Ramalinga Raju, the founder and chairman, the CFO's role, the auditor's role.
02:25And they all understood what really made them flush their balance sheet.
02:28And they understood that, you know, people sometimes cross the line because they are not receiving proper guidance from what their own values are.
02:35I think I learned a bunch of things.
02:38First of all, storytelling.
02:40After this, we'll be going to the corporate world.
02:42We're going to become leaders.
02:44And storytelling is a very, very important skill that you need to know.
02:48Another would be confidence.
02:50Because a lot of times, you know, we hesitate in expressing ourselves, putting up our perspective.
02:55So, this entire week of theatre classes has helped me a lot to, you know, be open and not to be scared of expressing who I am.
03:05This course is the best course that students perceive to explore their inner voice.
03:10And because this is not about sermonizing and telling them what to do.
03:14But this is for them to decide for themselves what is the ethical thing for them to do.
