Train route upgrades between Leeds and York will continue over the Christmas period and throughout January, with timetable changes also being introduced in December.

00:00Major rail improvements are on the way for passengers travelling across Leeds and Yorkshire
00:06this winter, but it does mean some important changes to services over Christmas and into
00:11the New Year.
00:13Work on the Trans-Pennine Route upgrade between Leeds and York will continue through the festive
00:17period and throughout January, as engineers push ahead with plans for a faster, greener
00:22and more reliable railway.
00:25Transportation users are being urged to plan ahead by checking for the latest updates
00:29before travel.
00:30There'll be no trains at all on Christmas Day or Boxing Day as usual during the annual
00:35shutdown.
00:36Then between the 27th to the 29th of December from 11.30 in the morning, no trains will run
00:42between Leeds and York to Selby, with replacement buses in operation.
00:47Services between Wakefield, Kirkgate and York as well as Selby and York will also be suspended.
00:53Services connecting Leeds, Micklefield and Selby as well as Leeds-York and Wakefield-Kirkgate
00:58will be disrupted between the 29th of December and 3rd of January.
01:02Meanwhile the 4th to the 25th of January will see disruption and diversions between Leeds-York-Castleford,
01:08Micklefield and Church-Fenton.
01:11On top of this, a new national timetable comes into effect from Sunday the 14th of December.
01:16With trains running at different times, Network Rail is urging extra care at level crossings.
01:22Britain has around 6,000 of them, and on the North and East route alone, which covers
01:27Yorkshire and the Humber, the North East and parts of Lincolnshire, Nottingham and Derbyshire,
01:31there were 154 near-miss incidents involving pedestrians and drivers over the last four years.
01:38Passengers are being advised to check journey times carefully and stay vigilant to help keep
01:42everyone safe.
