02:07In some international news, forecasters have released the 2026 Atlantic hurricane season storm names.
02:14But have you ever wondered how the names are chosen? Well, hurricane names in the Atlantic are selected
02:21by the World Meteorological Organization using six pre-approved alphabetical lists that rotate every
02:28six years and reflect English, Spanish and French names common in the region. If a storm is especially
02:35deadly or destructive, its name is permanently retired and replaced with a new one. And if a season has more
02:42storms than available names, a supplemental list is used. Using names helps meteorologists and the public keep
02:50track of storms. Well, now you know. That's all for weather tonight. Don't go anywhere just yet
02:57because there's more news when we come back.
