Tension prevailed in Amberpet on Thursday night, February 19, after participants in a procession marking Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti allegedly raised slogans in front of Jamia Masjid Amberpet during Taraweeh prayers.

The incident occurred around 10 pm as the procession passed the mosque. According to local reports, slogans were raised while prayers were underway. Some worshippers returning from the mosque gathered outside and reportedly responded with counter-slogans. The exchange lasted for nearly five minutes before police personnel stationed in the area intervened and dispersed both groups.

Additional forces were deployed as a precautionary measure. Rakshita Murthy, DCP of the Secunderabad zone, reached the spot, interacted with community elders, and appealed for calm. She stated that the situation arose after a few individuals raised slogans and confirmed that an enquiry is underway.

Police officials said the situation is currently peaceful and urged residents not to pay heed to rumours.
