00:00:55Good evening.
00:00:56Knockout football has arrived in this season's Champions League.
00:01:00First leg playoff action on the way with no shortage of goals and talking points.
00:01:05Across everything for us tonight, Thomas Hitzelsberger, Leon Osman and European football expert Guilherme Balaguet.
00:01:12We'll reflect on events at Benfica versus Real Madrid later tonight, but we begin with Newcastle's 5,000-mile round
00:01:19trip to Azerbaijan.
00:01:21Karabag, known as the Horsemen, came through qualifying to make it to the Champions League for the first time in
00:01:26eight years, and they'd never won a main draw match in the competition before this season.
00:01:32On the edge of the Caspian Sea, something has been stirring.
00:01:37The Horsemen of Karabag ride again.
00:01:39Two down at Benfica in their league stage opener, and then history.
00:01:45A first Champions League victory for a side from Azerbaijan.
00:01:49Into their stride now, and back on home soil against Copenhagen.
00:01:54One became two.
00:01:57Their next visitors were Chelsea.
00:01:59A goal down, and again fearless in transition.
00:02:03A two-all draw, hard-earned.
00:02:07They trailed Frankfurt with ten to go.
00:02:11Tick.
00:02:12Followed top.
00:02:14Despite a heavy defeat at Anfield, they were through.
00:02:17Now Newcastle United stand between the Horsemen and the round of 16.
00:02:26And commentary on this one comes from Guy Mowbrie.
00:02:31Newcastle are a long way from home, but only two short games away from a place in the last 16.
00:02:38Whatever the outcome, this is an historic match and tie for both clubs.
00:02:42But for Eddie Howe's team, only one outcome is acceptable.
00:02:47For Karabag, it's the same side that started at Liverpool three weeks ago before losing 6-0.
00:02:52And in fact, nine of the team, all bar Marko Jankovic and Honi Montiel, have been in the line-up
00:02:58for every Champions League game this season.
00:03:01Newcastle's team shows four changes from Saturday's FA Cup win at Aston Villa, with Nick Pope, Joe Willock, Anthony Langer
00:03:08and Anthony Gordon coming in.
00:03:10Joe Linton is back in the squad and on the bench after six games out.
00:03:15Johan Wisser has again been ruled out by injury.
00:03:19Eddie Howe's 215th match as Newcastle's boss.
00:03:25Dan Byrne gets forward and looks for Gordon, and Anthony Gordon gives Newcastle a glorious start in Baku.
00:03:34Dan Byrne allowed to stride as far as he wanted, got just the right way to pass for Gordon.
00:03:40And that's his Champions League form in one shot right there.
00:03:44His seventh goal in the competition.
00:03:47Off they go.
00:03:50Byrne.
00:03:58Willock on the run.
00:04:00Holds off the challenge, has help from Barnes now.
00:04:04Well saved by Kuchelski.
00:04:07What a start to the game.
00:04:08It's end-to-end attack from both teams.
00:04:15Dan Byrne ready.
00:04:18Kieran Trippi are primed.
00:04:22Something different.
00:04:23Allowed to run.
00:04:24Tanani hits it.
00:04:27Trippi are.
00:04:29Something more orthodox now.
00:04:31And it's headed in for two.
00:04:35Under eight minutes in.
00:04:37Malik Chow stands tall.
00:04:41And Newcastle are soaring in Azerbaijan.
00:04:44Well worth every penny, all those hours, all that expense for the Newcastle fans.
00:04:52Hall heard the call from Tonali and left it.
00:04:54Back to Trippi are who puts in a beauty.
00:04:58And Chow gets up off the floor.
00:05:01Climbs above Pedro Bicalio.
00:05:03And makes it Karabag nil.
00:05:06Newcastle United two.
00:05:12Tonali.
00:05:13Gordon.
00:05:15Ilanga.
00:05:17Oh, Gordon's through again.
00:05:18Anthony Gordon denied by Kuchelski.
00:05:24He really ought to have been celebrating being 3-0 up.
00:05:27But credit Mateusz Kuchelski with the save.
00:05:35Shafakuliev.
00:05:37Played it up to Zubier but he's been robbed by Willock.
00:05:40Looking for Barnes.
00:05:42Brilliant ball.
00:05:43Barnes still might have the chance.
00:05:44Gordon might now but Kuchelski is off his line at the right time.
00:05:49It's only 2-0 at half time then.
00:05:51I think everybody in that Karabag dressing room will be shaking the hands of their goalkeeper.
00:05:57Gordon.
00:05:59Hall.
00:06:01Barnes.
00:06:02Willock.
00:06:05It's not the keeper in the way.
00:06:07It's defenders in the way.
00:06:10VAR springing into action again with a potential check for handball.
00:06:18The explanation has come up from the video assistant referee.
00:06:25Mateusz Silva, the number two, touched the ball with his left arm.
00:06:27Which was in an unnatural position and away from the body.
00:06:31But what a chance for Newcastle to go 3-0 up.
00:06:35They've got a penalty.
00:06:36Everything is going their way.
00:06:46Gordon scores.
00:06:49Emphatically too.
00:06:52How many of those Newcastle fans who made the two and a half thousand mile trip tobacco really thought it
00:07:00would go like this?
00:07:01Carabag nil, Newcastle, Newcastle 3-0, Newcastle 3-0.
00:07:31Champions League history is on its way.
00:07:34Carabag are all over the place.
00:07:38And look at that for being court napping.
00:07:40Kevin Medina.
00:07:42What a night for Anthony Gordon.
00:07:45Never mind one hat-trick.
00:07:47He could get six or seven by himself the way this is going.
00:07:58Barnes.
00:08:01Unable to find Gordon.
00:08:03Bolt plays it to Gordon though.
00:08:04Gordon could be in for his fourth.
00:08:06Kaczelski out.
00:08:07Did he get the ball?
00:08:09He didn't.
00:08:11He takes Gordon down.
00:08:14And it'll be Gordon against Kaczelski again.
00:08:18He's in rescue mode.
00:08:19Just trying to get there.
00:08:20He didn't get there quickly enough.
00:08:23Kieran Trippi is having a word.
00:08:25Joe Willock pushed away.
00:08:27You can't take it away from a player who's got a first half hat-trick.
00:08:31And he's on the brink of four in the first 45 minutes.
00:08:405-0 Newcastle.
00:08:44Four of them dispatched by their number 10.
00:08:49He's never in doubt.
00:08:52He's absolutely flying.
00:08:56Kaczelski is close to crying.
00:08:59Newcastle United have shown their attacking class.
00:09:01And especially Anthony Gordon who's still not satisfied.
00:09:05Despite having scored four goals in one half-trick.
00:09:10Look at that.
00:09:12Kieran Trippi and Anthony Gordon seemingly having a word or two on their way off.
00:09:16And Eddie Howe will have to sort that out at half-time.
00:09:18Don't have something as daft as that.
00:09:20Ruining what is a perfect night so far.
00:09:24They don't have to do anything else this half.
00:09:26And they would have their joint biggest away win ever in Europe.
00:09:32Zubia.
00:09:34Zavakuliev now.
00:09:35And he's scored.
00:09:40No, he hasn't ever get the feeling it's not your night one bit.
00:09:47Elvin Zabakuliev ruled offside.
00:09:53It was tight.
00:09:56Drills it past Nick Poe who could barely wave a left hand at it.
00:10:01And in fact,
00:10:03no offside, it's a goal.
00:10:05You could read the lips of Espeneskas.
00:10:07Karabag do have one.
00:10:10I don't think it'll make too much difference for the overall outcome tonight.
00:10:17Barthes.
00:10:21Murphy.
00:10:24He takes it away from Zabakuliev and has a go!
00:10:28And it's deflected in!
00:10:32Newcastle United have hit Karabag for six.
00:10:35And Jacob Murphy gets to celebrate his first ever goal in this competition.
00:10:42And it flicked a Karabag head on its way past Kochelski.
00:10:49But it is because it was on target.
00:10:51Murphy's goal all right.
00:10:53That's what it means to him.
00:10:57Murphy to Tonali and returned quickly.
00:11:01Sula out on the right.
00:11:03Niamh is the player in the main striker's role now.
00:11:08Flag wave for a Newcastle pre-kick.
00:11:10Sula the player who was impeded.
00:11:22Swung in by Murphy!
00:11:24First of all saved!
00:11:25Oh, second of all saved!
00:11:27Brilliant Kochelski!
00:11:30Niamh keeps the attack going.
00:11:33Another attempt goes wide.
00:11:35This time from Chow.
00:11:38First burn.
00:11:40Then Sula who really should have put that away.
00:11:44I don't think there's much doubt about Karabag's man of the match.
00:11:48Goalkeeper Mateusz Kochelski has kept this in single figures.
00:11:55When we're at our very best, we can be a match for anybody.
00:11:57The system that we're playing is the system that we've played really consistently for four years here.
00:12:04But the personnel are slightly different.
00:12:05So we've played Volta Mardy slightly lower and Anthony higher.
00:12:10I think naturally you then see different strengths in the players.
00:12:13Anthony's running ability and his pace, I think, has shown that he wants to play there, which is hugely important.
00:12:17And then he's got the qualities to play.
00:12:18I thought his pressing today was incredible for us.
00:12:22I think that gave us the platform to build off of the back of his work and a lot of
00:12:26high-pressing regains, a lot of counter-attack opportunities for us.
00:12:28And, of course, he's taken the four goals and will get the headlines naturally.
00:12:32But I thought his all-round game was really strong.
00:12:34Eddie, obviously the penalty situation has obviously got some headlines back home with the TV analysis.
00:12:41But I guess you've had worse problems than two players wanting to take a penalty.
00:12:46Yeah, I'm not quite 100% sure what happened in that moment.
00:12:49I think Anthony naturally wanted to take the second penalty.
00:12:52And I understand why there's a debate over it.
00:12:53Sometimes that's not clear when there's two in one game.
00:12:56But he took both penalties superbly.
00:12:58I'm pleased with that.
00:12:59And I think Kieran's only ever trying to help the team.
00:13:02So I think it's, as you said, a positive situation rather than negative.
00:13:05Yeah, we'll get on to that.
00:13:07And we gave it the big build-up because Carabaug was supposed to turn up and give Newcastle a real
00:13:12lesson, weren't they, tonight?
00:13:13And show them how good they've been in the Champions League.
00:13:16But look at that.
00:13:17The first half stats.
00:13:18I don't think you've ever seen anything quite so one-sided, Thomas, have you?
00:13:22Definitely not.
00:13:23All I can see is zeroes on Carabaug's side.
00:13:25And I think this is, I'm not exaggerating, the most one-sided first half I've seen in this competition.
00:13:30And yes, of course, they're in this round now.
00:13:33But credit to Eddie Howe and Newcastle's side, the way they went there.
00:13:36They've been on the front foot from the first minute on.
00:13:38They deserve this performance in the first half.
00:13:40And then I think it's quite tricky to go into the second half.
00:13:42Are you going to go for more or are you going to take the foot off the gas and that
00:13:46was a challenge?
00:13:46How many times do we see that when a team scores four or five goals in the first half
00:13:49and sometimes scores nothing in the second half?
00:13:51Newcastle obviously went out there with a game plan
00:13:54and their 2,500 travelling fans were just thrilled, as Thomas said,
00:13:58to see them go at it from minute one.
00:14:00Yeah, because, you know, Carabaug have been good at home.
00:14:02But Newcastle, with their game plan, absolutely blew them away.
00:14:06It was a terrific start to the game.
00:14:08I mean, Eddie Howe says that the way they pressed, Anthony Gordon in particular,
00:14:12gave them a great platform to build.
00:14:14But it was how organised they were behind him.
00:14:16You see, quite often you'd think going away in the Champions League,
00:14:18first minute of the game, we'll be secure, we'll stay in spaces.
00:14:21No, look how quick Hall is up on the pitch.
00:14:24Burners are crossing to left-back to make sure that they're man-to-man everywhere on the pitch,
00:14:28which gives Anthony Gordon the chance to go press the goalkeeper.
00:14:30And they were so aggressive right from the very first whistle, as I said,
00:14:35that that just gave them the opportunity to then get further up the pitch,
00:14:39get players into very dangerous attacking positions,
00:14:42everybody getting into the penalty area.
00:14:45And even with that, Tonali quite organised on the edge of the penalty area
00:14:49in case anything come out.
00:14:50But Anthony Gordon, yes, he may have scored four goals,
00:14:53but he didn't stop working, he didn't stop setting the tone.
00:14:56And again, Hall up from left-back.
00:14:58And I just think if you're going to go away from home
00:15:01and you're going to be this aggressive,
00:15:03you're going to not risk things,
00:15:05because you're certainly still leaving yourself man-to-man at the back,
00:15:08but if you're prepared to be as brave as they were,
00:15:11then you're going to be able to give these top players like Gordon,
00:15:14like Barnes, like Walter Marder,
00:15:16an opportunity to go and show what they can do
00:15:18in real aggressive moments of the pitch.
00:15:21And just to show again, from the kick-off, Thomas,
00:15:23they go and get the goal.
00:15:25He loved it.
00:15:26And that's why, as you just said,
00:15:27sometimes when you take so much risk,
00:15:29you play man-against-man, you open up in the back,
00:15:31but that never happened.
00:15:32And they just didn't lose their appetite.
00:15:34They kept going.
00:15:35To that degree that Carabac, some of these players,
00:15:37you talk about established Champions League players,
00:15:39they were actually frightened to get on the ball.
00:15:41They lost the ball easily,
00:15:42and the chances kept coming.
00:15:44And every single player in this Newcastle United side
00:15:46in the first half,
00:15:47they were so hungry to hunt the ball, keep going.
00:15:50And Eddie Howe said in the press conference
00:15:51that Nick Woltemar, they're in this new position for him,
00:15:54works really well.
00:15:55It gives Anthony Gordon more space.
00:15:57And there you go.
00:15:58Again, in the opposition box,
00:15:59so many bodies in there.
00:16:01That's what you're asking for.
00:16:02And they kept doing that.
00:16:03And, of course, they were all smiles at half-time,
00:16:05and they had a really good break at half-time.
00:16:08Anthony Gordon's four goals see him eclipse by some way.
00:16:12Alan Shearer's record in the Champions League.
00:16:14And he now sits between...
00:16:15Have you heard of that guy at the top,
00:16:16Kylian Mbappe?
00:16:17Yeah, I've heard of him.
00:16:18He's on 13.
00:16:19Another Englishman, Harry Kane, on eight behind him.
00:16:22But, of course, Kane hasn't had a chance
00:16:23to score any goals in this round
00:16:24because Bayern Munich haven't had to go through this phase.
00:16:26But it's so impressive, his goal scoring in Europe.
00:16:30You've worked with him,
00:16:31you've known him from a very young age.
00:16:33Did you see this kind of goal scoring prowess?
00:16:36You could see the talent.
00:16:37There's absolutely no doubt you could see the talent.
00:16:39Whether I thought he'd be a goal scorer
00:16:41to this magnitude, scoring goals regularly
00:16:43in the Champions League, I'm not so sure.
00:16:46But it's up to him and how he's developed.
00:16:48And, you know, we've seen him on the left side.
00:16:50We're seeing him now through the middle
00:16:51with Walter Marder in behind.
00:16:53Eddie Howe talking about how the balance
00:16:55just seems right and seems to fit.
00:16:57So, if they do continue this
00:16:58and they do keep this sort of system and style,
00:17:01which does suit them both,
00:17:02then I actually see him scoring more.
00:17:03I think he can progress from this as well.
00:17:05Yeah, and he's really enjoying his European football.
00:17:07How far, how deep do you think
00:17:09Newcastle can go in this competition
00:17:10if they come through the second leg?
00:17:12Don't be presumptuous.
00:17:14But, you know, should they come through next Tuesday?
00:17:16Probably will.
00:17:17They come from the Premier League
00:17:19where every minute there is a battle
00:17:20where you have to fight every single ball,
00:17:23where you have to run all the time.
00:17:24I'm not sure players,
00:17:25do you enjoy that that much?
00:17:27And then you come to Europe,
00:17:28there's a little bit more of space.
00:17:29You can play well.
00:17:31As you said, they go in the front foot
00:17:34and you get results.
00:17:35So, doing the same thing that they do
00:17:36in the Premier League, you get results.
00:17:38So, I feel that this is like the Aston Villa.
00:17:40It's like they're enjoying it.
00:17:41They're going to go for it.
00:17:42He articulated that himself, didn't he, Gordon,
00:17:44a few matches ago,
00:17:45saying how much space he gets in Europe
00:17:48compared to the Premier League,
00:17:49which he was a little bit scathing, actually,
00:17:51about kind of how, you know,
00:17:52Premier League football restricts him in a way,
00:17:54which maybe, you know, he has a point.
00:17:57Yeah, absolutely.
00:17:58As Guillaume said,
00:17:59the Premier League is so intense
00:18:00that sometimes when you go into Europe
00:18:02that you do get bits of space,
00:18:05you do get moments in game,
00:18:06five and ten minute periods
00:18:07where everything just seems to calm
00:18:09and there's a bit of a spell of possession
00:18:10and then you can burst into life.
00:18:12And when you've got his pace and his ability
00:18:14and you've got people behind him
00:18:15who can see the passes and play them,
00:18:17time them right,
00:18:18then that's the results you get.
00:18:20I tell you when he wasn't calm
00:18:21and that was over who would take the second penalty
00:18:23because Kieran Trippier thought
00:18:26that perhaps it was time to share the love, maybe,
00:18:28and Walter Marder might fancy a go,
00:18:30but obviously, Anthony Gordon,
00:18:32I'm the penalty taker,
00:18:33I'm absolutely not sharing these goals.
00:18:35I love it as well.
00:18:36I really do.
00:18:37I know that the captain goes up
00:18:39and has a word, Thomas,
00:18:40but I want my goal scorer saying,
00:18:41no, go away, I'm staying on pens.
00:18:43Yeah, I partly agree with you,
00:18:44but obviously, me being German,
00:18:45I would have loved to see
00:18:46Nick Walter Marder stepping up.
00:18:47He's done it before in the Premier League
00:18:49for Newcastle
00:18:50and he's scored a wonderful penalty,
00:18:51but I get it.
00:18:52He's been in such fine form
00:18:53and he scores another goal,
00:18:54so you can't really debate that.
00:18:56He says, I'm sorry, mate.
00:18:56Well, exactly.
00:18:57Kieran Trippier doesn't even look.
00:18:58And I think if you have that sort of problem
00:19:00after a Champions League night,
00:19:02you're in a good position
00:19:03and Eddie Howe's done the right thing.
00:19:05He didn't even start a big debate.
00:19:06I think they've all sorted it out.
00:19:08And I suppose it will give Eddie Howe
00:19:10the opportunity next Tuesday
00:19:12with this scoreline
00:19:13to make some changes,
00:19:14bearing in mind that Newcastle
00:19:16have got a very intense run of fixtures
00:19:19coming up.
00:19:20Let's have a little look at what they've got
00:19:21because they play City a lot,
00:19:23don't they, this season?
00:19:24They could end up playing Chelsea a lot as well
00:19:26because the next two Champions League games
00:19:29that they, if they make it through,
00:19:31will be against either Chelsea or Barcelona.
00:19:33They have Chelsea in the league as well,
00:19:34so they could have a run of three Chelsea matches there.
00:19:36There's two City games within that run of matches as well,
00:19:40but a lot of home games for them.
00:19:41A chance to put together
00:19:42a good run of form at home,
00:19:44which they could do with in the Premier League.
00:19:46The first step was their away form.
00:19:49So they've won the last three away games,
00:19:50which is massive for them.
00:19:51That's where they were struggling this season.
00:19:53And I think when you look at the list,
00:19:54Eddie Howe will not look at the entire list.
00:19:56It's about the next game.
00:19:57And I know there are big teams,
00:19:58but Manchester City next.
00:20:00How do we prepare for this game?
00:20:01Keep our run going,
00:20:02keep the players happy.
00:20:03Now he said he found a good position
00:20:05for Nick Voldemar.
00:20:06They've had a lot of money for him.
00:20:07Now they know the best position.
00:20:08So they're making progress.
00:20:10The fans will be looking at the pictures
00:20:11and they will be very excited about them.
00:20:14Fingers crossed for next Tuesday.
00:20:15OK, we head to the Arctic Circle next.
00:20:18Into Milan,
00:20:19the visitors to surprise package Bodo Glimt.
00:20:21The Norwegian side were winless
00:20:23in their first ever Champions League campaign
00:20:25after six games of the league stage,
00:20:27needing six points
00:20:28and basically a miracle to qualify
00:20:30from their last two games,
00:20:32with two of Europe's elite still to play.
00:20:34Then this happened.
00:20:37This is Bodo Glimt's first ever season
00:20:40in the Champions League proper.
00:20:43First ever win has proved elusive.
00:20:47It's a decent cross.
00:20:49The header is in in the back post.
00:20:51And Bodo Glimt could be in again.
00:20:52Blomberg picking out Hurg for number two.
00:20:56Hauger wants it himself.
00:20:58What a strike.
00:21:00But it's so, so congested.
00:21:02Scherke has a go.
00:21:03And Scherke scores.
00:21:05It's 3-1.
00:21:06There goes the final whistle.
00:21:08Victory for Bodo Glimt.
00:21:10Painful defeat for Manchester City.
00:21:12Bodo Glimt would dearly love
00:21:14to make those playoffs.
00:21:15And last week's historic win
00:21:16over Manchester City
00:21:17has at least given them a shot tonight.
00:21:20Hanschko's ball in towards Serlet.
00:21:22Rising.
00:21:22And this time scoring.
00:21:25Bjorkan in support provides the cross.
00:21:27And the finish is there.
00:21:29Bodo Glimt are level.
00:21:30Oh, incredible.
00:21:33They've turned it around.
00:21:34And that is full-time.
00:21:37Simeone's side are beaten at home
00:21:39by Bodo Glimt.
00:21:44The winners of this one over two legs
00:21:46face Manchester City or Sporting
00:21:48in the last 16.
00:21:49Commentary comes from Steve Wilson.
00:21:51Their domestic season finished in November.
00:21:55Bodo Glimt have only played three games since,
00:21:58recording surely the two greatest results
00:22:00in their history.
00:22:02And now Inter come to northern Norway
00:22:04where it may not get above freezing
00:22:06for another month.
00:22:08Coach Etil Knudsen picks the same 11
00:22:10which beat both Atletico and Manchester City.
00:22:13The surface is artificial.
00:22:15The excitement very genuine.
00:22:17Inter boss Christian Kivu makes six changes
00:22:20to the side which won at Dortmund on matchday.
00:22:23Eight.
00:22:23Lautaro Martinez amongst those returning.
00:22:26Inter have never lost to a Norwegian club.
00:22:30Das Mürer Stadion is not big.
00:22:33Holds fewer than 10,000 people.
00:22:36But it's very different from what Inter are used to.
00:22:40You would have thought.
00:22:41Berg.
00:22:45Berg.
00:22:45Bjorken forward.
00:22:47Hoog with a little flick.
00:22:49Big chance.
00:22:49And they're in front.
00:22:51Berg.
00:22:52Berg.
00:22:52Limp have the lead.
00:22:54Sondra Brunstad.
00:22:57Berg.
00:22:58Limp won Inter Milan nil.
00:23:00And the Norwegians are at it again.
00:23:05Lovely little flick around the corner
00:23:08from Kasper Hoog.
00:23:11Look at that.
00:23:12It's delightful.
00:23:14And hammered in by Sondra Brunstad.
00:23:17When Berdeglip drew in Dortmund on matchday six.
00:23:22Eyebrows were raised.
00:23:24Jaws dropped when they beat Manchester City on matchday seven.
00:23:28And again when they won at Atletico on matchday eight.
00:23:33What next?
00:23:34And all this whilst playing no domestic football.
00:23:41Conor Sukusto with a jab ball into the penalty area.
00:23:45And Damian it's the post.
00:23:48Really big chance.
00:23:49Well hit by Mateo Damian.
00:23:51And he's unlucky really.
00:23:52Just swerved a little bit too much.
00:23:57A kanji with a touch which wasn't a very good one.
00:24:00That was a brilliant challenge from Acerbi.
00:24:06Damian.
00:24:08Barrela.
00:24:10Decent ball.
00:24:12And on the turn.
00:24:13It's smashed into the back of the net by Esposito.
00:24:17And it's all square.
00:24:19That's a very, very smart finish this.
00:24:23Nicolo Barrela with the ball into the penalty area which was beautifully flighted.
00:24:29Carlos Augusto didn't win the header cleanly but it fell very nicely for Pio Esposito to smash in Inter's equaliser.
00:24:38And they needed that.
00:24:46First attack of the second half is a, or looked like it might be a birdie glint attack but actually
00:24:50cut out by Carlos Augusto.
00:24:52And here's Lautaro Martinez for Inter.
00:24:55Henrik Mkhitaryan ahead of him.
00:24:57His run has made some space.
00:24:59Nicolo Barrela.
00:25:00Lovely flick.
00:25:01Esposito got that wrong.
00:25:03Lautaro Martinez.
00:25:04And it's bounced off the post.
00:25:06And Inter.
00:25:08The width of the woodwork away from taking the lead.
00:25:13First minute of the second half.
00:25:20Given away rather carelessly that.
00:25:23By Carlos Augusto.
00:25:24Kasper Hög.
00:25:25Jens Petterhauger.
00:25:27Jens Petterhauger.
00:25:282-1.
00:25:32And the man who had a brief spell with AC Milan scores against Inter Milan.
00:25:39Birdie glint.
00:25:402.
00:25:41Inter 1.
00:25:42Jens Petterhauger's fifth in the Champions League campaign.
00:25:46And they are back in front.
00:25:59Jens Petterhauger.
00:26:01Jens Petterhauger scorer of that second goal.
00:26:03That's a nice ball into Brunstadt.
00:26:05Score of the first.
00:26:06And Hög.
00:26:09Incredible.
00:26:12And Birdie glint.
00:26:13Birdie glint.
00:26:14Three.
00:26:14Into one.
00:26:17Two goals in three minutes.
00:26:21And Birdie glint are tearing up the European established order here.
00:26:27Not just once but three times with victories over Manchester City and Atletico Madrid.
00:26:35And potentially against Inter Milan.
00:26:43And Hauger will take it up.
00:26:45And Hauger touches it to Hakon Evgen.
00:26:48And Hauger then plays a lovely ball out to the left-hand side.
00:26:52And it's a good save by Jan Sommer to deny Helmersen.
00:26:55The substitute has only been on the pitch for a minute.
00:27:00As they can win at the Metropolitano, they can think.
00:27:04Then they can win at the San Siro.
00:27:06Truth is, they don't need to win at the San Siro.
00:27:09They can lose and still progress as it stands.
00:27:14And the Norwegians have done it again.
00:27:16It is an extraordinary night for Birdie glint.
00:27:21Jens Petter-Alger on the score sheet again.
00:27:24Kasper Hoeg.
00:27:25Those two each scored in three second half minutes.
00:27:29And Inter have a huge job to do at the San Siro next week.
00:27:34Because this fairy tale continues as it finishes in the first leg.
00:27:39Birdie glint three.
00:27:41Into Milan one.
00:27:44It was a very important start for us.
00:27:47But yeah, it's not finished.
00:27:50This will be decided next week.
00:27:52So we have to learn from this game.
00:27:54It was a very tough game.
00:27:55Inter is a very, very, very strong team with a lot of quality.
00:27:58So yeah, we have to now analyze well and prepare for San Siro.
00:28:05Everything is still open.
00:28:06It's only a two goals difference.
00:28:09We try to be our best to do our best to score, to do whatever we need to do in
00:28:15order for us to qualify.
00:28:15We are effective.
00:28:17We score three wonderful goals.
00:28:19But in total, I think we are a little bit lucky.
00:28:23So we know this is just first half.
00:28:25So we, of course, we're looking forward to the next game.
00:28:29But it will be a tough one.
00:28:31It will be tough.
00:28:32And it's not over yet.
00:28:33But they've given themselves a really good chance, Thomas.
00:28:35And in particular, we're going to have a closer look at the Hager & Hager show.
00:28:40It was indeed.
00:28:41I love this football club.
00:28:42I've been following their progress.
00:28:43And of course, these two players, they stood out tonight.
00:28:46But it's an all-round team performance.
00:28:47You can see the confidence they play with, the great structure that they have.
00:28:51But both of them were involved in the three goals.
00:28:53And you see that flick on in the box.
00:28:55Great finish by Brunstadt.
00:28:56And it just kept going.
00:28:58In the first half, I had the impression that Inter gave them a good game.
00:29:01It was all square.
00:29:02Inter, they were quite cautious, defended well.
00:29:04But in the second half, they just couldn't stop them anymore.
00:29:07And Borda just kept on pressing in possession.
00:29:10You see, quickly go to the front.
00:29:11Hager there has an eye for his teammate, Hager.
00:29:14And it's a great finish.
00:29:15We were discussing whether the keeper could have saved it.
00:29:18But let's just take it.
00:29:19It was a great strike.
00:29:20And then there again, Hager starts to play.
00:29:22And in the end, Hager gets the ball.
00:29:24Nice little team play.
00:29:26And it's 3-1.
00:29:27And there was no coming back for Inter.
00:29:28And as I said, this team just...
00:29:30It shows what you can achieve with a clear strategy
00:29:33and with a very good culture.
00:29:35Because I think Ketil Knudsen must have had offers
00:29:37from every single club in top five divisions.
00:29:39He decides to stay there because there is something special happening
00:29:42in Borda and has been happening for many years.
00:29:44And Kasper Hurg there, his goal involvements in the last six games,
00:29:48really impressive.
00:29:50He's obviously a player who's kind of come to life
00:29:52in the latter stages of this competition.
00:29:55And it's worth mentioning as well that, of course,
00:29:57they're not playing domestic football at the moment
00:29:59and won't until the 15th of March.
00:30:01Which is crazy when you see they're in pre-season.
00:30:03And then they're in the biggest stage.
00:30:05The last three games, they beat Atletico Madrid,
00:30:07now Inter Milan and Manchester City.
00:30:09It's really hard for people to understand how much that means.
00:30:12In a place in Norway where it's not easy to attract top talent
00:30:16and yet they always come up with these big clubs
00:30:18and they defeat them.
00:30:19About 200 miles inside the Arctic Circle.
00:30:22Days full of sunlight in the summer, dark days in the winter.
00:30:26You know, it's a tough life there.
00:30:2857,000 inhabitants in the place and quite clearly
00:30:33they created something special, as we're hearing, as Thomas said.
00:30:37This is a team that in 2017 was in the second division
00:30:40when the manager, Ketil Knudsen, became not just a system
00:30:45but moved as a first team manager.
00:30:47Influenced by Bielsa, put together a formation, 4-3-3
00:30:51and they started looking for players that fitted there.
00:30:53But of course they couldn't convince anybody.
00:30:55What did you just say? 200 miles into the Arctic Circle.
00:30:57So it was like, OK, we cannot give you money
00:31:00but we can give you a little bit of a story,
00:31:03training that will improve you.
00:31:04And they've convinced Danish internationals,
00:31:07like Hoag for instance,
00:31:08and they've got players through the ranks as well
00:31:11with a budget of 57 million pounds.
00:31:13Now, Kasper Hoag, for instance, they're number nine.
00:31:17They've got money, they are OK.
00:31:19They could have sold him.
00:31:20Norwich and Celtic came for him in January.
00:31:24They offered 6 million.
00:31:25They said, no, we want 15.
00:31:26But after what he just done, what is it?
00:31:28Four goals, two assists.
00:31:30I think they'll be asking for half of the budget
00:31:32of the season for them.
00:31:34And then continue the progression.
00:31:35That's why Knudsen doesn't want to go anywhere
00:31:38because the team keeps improving.
00:31:41I'm crossing my fingers.
00:31:42I might get a trip there this season, I'm hoping.
00:31:45OK, let's dip into some of last night's action now,
00:31:48starting in Lisbon.
00:31:49Jose Mourinho's Benfica hosted 15-time winners Real Madrid.
00:31:53The two sides, of course, were back at the Estadio de Luz,
00:31:5620 days on from their league stage epic finale.
00:32:01Benfica are hoping that they can spring a surprise tonight.
00:32:05And mathematically, all goes well elsewhere.
00:32:08The deadly Kylian Mbappe.
00:32:13Sheldon up.
00:32:14They're back in it.
00:32:15Benfica have the lead.
00:32:19Sheldon up second.
00:32:21Goulair cuts you back.
00:32:23Mbappe!
00:32:24Jose Mourinho tells him to just go for it.
00:32:27Might as well send his goalkeeper up there.
00:32:28Oh, my goodness gracious me!
00:32:31This is unbelievable!
00:32:35Your commentary team is Sue Smith with Guy Mowry.
00:32:40Hope you're settled and ready for the drama to commence once more
00:32:44between the two who gave us more of it than any others
00:32:48at the culmination of the league phase of this competition three weeks ago.
00:32:52And the two teams who were the pioneers in the competition
00:32:58as the European Cup when it all began 70 years ago on show here.
00:33:02They won the first seven between them.
00:33:04Madrid the first five.
00:33:06Benfica the next two.
00:33:13Rudiger.
00:33:15Alexander-Arnold.
00:33:17Really clever ball.
00:33:18It's a beauty.
00:33:19Pulled back.
00:33:20It's arrived at Vinicius Junior's feet and he's put it just wide.
00:33:23What a ball through that was.
00:33:25And Vinicius Junior will be disappointed.
00:33:27He couldn't hit the target there.
00:33:31Prestiani.
00:33:33Housen heads away as far as Frederik Auerschnurz.
00:33:36Oh, he got all of that.
00:33:38Really smart start from Courtois.
00:33:41That's brilliant from Courtois.
00:33:42Takes a slight deflection, but he gets down so well.
00:33:48We have Barrero in hot pursuit.
00:33:50Mbappe with the layoff for Carreras.
00:33:52Vinicius Junior.
00:33:53Mbappe!
00:33:55Misses the target.
00:33:56What a beautiful move.
00:33:58The most majestic move we've seen in the match so far.
00:34:01It's a lovely flick from Vinicius Junior.
00:34:04It's just the finish that's missing.
00:34:12Arda Goulart.
00:34:13Space made.
00:34:14Oh, it's another deflection behind for a corner.
00:34:18That's another really good save from Trubin.
00:34:28It's Mbappe.
00:34:32Piling Vinicius Junior.
00:34:34Oh, that is magnificent.
00:34:36Top corner.
00:34:38Top draw.
00:34:39Top class from Vinicius Junior.
00:34:41He has lit up the Estadio de Luz.
00:34:47What a strike this is.
00:34:49He takes it early.
00:34:50So once he cuts in onto that right foot,
00:34:52just takes it so early into that far corner,
00:34:55the goalkeeper Trubin has absolutely no chance.
00:35:01You can hear the reception he's getting from the crowd.
00:35:04He has been booked.
00:35:06And a little bit from Prestiani.
00:35:08And Vinicius Junior is saying,
00:35:09what have I done?
00:35:14Prestiani still has a lot to say.
00:35:20Just the yellow car for Vinicius Junior,
00:35:23who's still not happy.
00:35:25And Prestiani is still going on.
00:35:28And the referee, I think, is calling a timeout here.
00:35:33We just have to hope here that what's not happened is any form of racial abuse,
00:35:38because that is what this is pointing towards just at the moment.
00:35:45Vinicius Junior has left the pitch.
00:35:48Vinicius Junior has left the pitch with something said to him by Prestiani.
00:35:50We just don't know right now.
00:35:54Vinicius Junior is in no mood to play on.
00:35:57Vinicius Junior is in no mood to play on.
00:35:57Something has happened to push him over the edge.
00:36:02But look at that.
00:36:03The game's about to start again.
00:36:05It had all got back to some sort of level of equilibrium.
00:36:08And something clearly in Vinicius Junior's mind was said to him by Gianluca Prestiani.
00:36:17Vinicius Junior got the yellow card for the nature of his celebration.
00:36:21He is there explaining to Jose Mourinho exactly what it is he thinks has occurred.
00:36:29Yeah.
00:36:33Well, the game is going to restart.
00:36:36Well, that's been ten minutes since Vinicius Junior scored that wonderful goal.
00:36:42This is where the players have to remain focused, don't they?
00:36:45And then deal with whatever's happened after the game.
00:36:56Sydney Cabral throws it across for an effort on goal.
00:37:00Was that a foul?
00:37:00It is.
00:37:01It's going to be a free kick to Benfica just outside the Fox.
00:37:04Now Jose Mourinho's getting more and more animated.
00:37:07He thinks that should be more than just the free kick.
00:37:10And he's already been booked, hasn't he?
00:37:11That's what he thinks.
00:37:13I don't know, does he get to the ball first?
00:37:15That he kicks his leg.
00:37:16It's a yellow card for Jose Mourinho.
00:37:18Oh, is he the second one?
00:37:19Yeah, it's been quickly followed by another.
00:37:22Jose Mourinho sees red.
00:37:24Incredible.
00:37:30Here's Mbappe.
00:37:32Taking on Araujo and winning the corner.
00:37:35That was all he'd set out to do.
00:37:39And more happening down in the corner as Vinicius Junior goes across to take it.
00:37:43There's more things coming down.
00:37:46Benfica will face serious ramifications for this.
00:37:51It's disgusting, isn't it?
00:37:53I just don't want to see that.
00:37:56It's over now.
00:37:57A dramatic night.
00:37:58Not in the ways we hoped for.
00:38:01It's finished.
00:38:01Benfica nil.
00:38:02Real Madrid one.
00:38:04What's happened tonight is a disgrace to football.
00:38:08It's overshadowed the performance.
00:38:10Especially after such an amazing goal, Vinny.
00:38:14He's been subjected to this a few times throughout his career.
00:38:18If it's happened tonight and ruin a night for us as a team is a disgrace.
00:38:22Like I said, it's a disgrace to football.
00:38:24There's no place in it in football or society.
00:38:27So, it's disgusting.
00:38:30When you score a goal like that, you celebrate in a respectful way.
00:38:35He incited, is that what you feel?
00:38:37Hmm?
00:38:37He incited the crowd.
00:38:39He incited your players.
00:38:40Yeah.
00:38:41Yeah, I believe so.
00:38:42Has Prestiani said anything to you about what he's alleged to have said?
00:38:46They told me different things.
00:38:47He would deny it?
00:38:48Yeah.
00:38:49But I don't believe in one or another.
00:38:51I want to be independent.
00:38:52If it has happened, it's very sad.
00:38:54Obviously, Vinicius has been in this position before and obviously feels so strongly about this that he must speak out.
00:39:01But there is something wrong because it happens in every stadium.
00:39:04How do you mean?
00:39:06Stadium where Vinicius plays, something happens.
00:39:09Always.
00:39:11Are you saying that it might not be true?
00:39:15I'm saying that it was a good 50 minutes of football.
00:39:20I believe millions of people watching you around the world.
00:39:25A crazy goal.
00:39:27Absolutely crazy goal.
00:39:29And then game over.
00:39:32Gabriel Clark asking the questions there.
00:39:34And, of course, over the last 24 hours, the key figures involved in this have issued statements, starting with Vinicius
00:39:40Jr. himself.
00:39:41Racists are above all cowards.
00:39:43He says they need to put their shirts in their mouths to show how weak they are.
00:39:47Nothing that happened today is new in my life or in my team's life.
00:39:51And then Kylian Mbappe, this was after the match, said,
00:39:55I heard it.
00:39:56There are Benfica players that also heard it.
00:39:58This player, Prestiani, he means, doesn't deserve to play in this competition.
00:40:02We have to give the best example to youngsters.
00:40:05If we let this go, then the values of football serve for nothing.
00:40:08Everything we believe in is for nothing.
00:40:10We have to do something.
00:40:12And Prestiani himself, of course, denying the claim, says,
00:40:17I want to clarify that at no time did I direct racist insults to Vinicius Jr.,
00:40:21who regrettably misunderstood what he thought he heard.
00:40:24I was never racist with anyone, and I regret the threats I received from Real Madrid players.
00:40:29And Benfica then issued a statement.
00:40:32Benfica reiterates that it fully supports and believes in the version presented by the player Gianluca Prestiani,
00:40:38whose conduct while serving the club has always been guided by respect for opponents, institutions
00:40:43and the principles that define Benfica's identity.
00:40:47The club regrets the defamation campaign to which the player has been subjected.
00:40:52And finally, UEFA.
00:40:54Their statement says,
00:40:55The official reports from the match played last night are currently being reviewed.
00:40:59Where matters are reported, proceedings are opened,
00:41:02and should they lead to disciplinary sanctions being imposed,
00:41:05they are announced on the UEFA disciplinary website.
00:41:10Well, we can now bring in Piara Power,
00:41:12Executive Director of the FAIR Network.
00:41:15Thank you for joining us.
00:41:17What did you make of the situation, the way it played out,
00:41:20and was enough done to support Vinicius?
00:41:24Hi, Gabi. Hi, everybody.
00:41:26I think what we saw last night really was something that
00:41:30Vinicius is very familiar with now.
00:41:31He's very familiar with seeing this in the Spanish League in particular.
00:41:36This is the 26th time that Vinicius has been racially abused
00:41:41in a high-profile incidence.
00:41:43There will be hundreds of other times where he's been abused.
00:41:47So in terms of the way it was treated,
00:41:49sadly, there is a feeling here now that Vinicius is making these things up,
00:41:55that somehow he is feigning his hurt,
00:41:58that he is somebody who deserves this sort of abuse
00:42:02because of the way that he plays.
00:42:04And all of that, I don't think, is acceptable in Europe in 2026.
00:42:09There's been enough work done to educate people.
00:42:13There's been enough work done to understand
00:42:15the impact of this sort of racism.
00:42:17I'm not sure that I agree with Mourinho,
00:42:21Jose Mourinho-Tool,
00:42:22who is an experienced coach around Europe.
00:42:24And the emphasis that he placed on defending his club
00:42:27and defending his player is one that we've seen before.
00:42:31But it's not correct.
00:42:33It's not right.
00:42:33It's not the way that we would want to see
00:42:35somebody of his standing in the game do with this.
00:42:38Give us an idea then of the process.
00:42:40I read the UEFA statement there.
00:42:42But what happens next?
00:42:43And can we expect anything to be concluded
00:42:46by the time these sides meet again in less than a week?
00:42:50I think it would be a big ask for UEFA
00:42:53to conclude this within a week's time.
00:42:55That's a very quick process.
00:42:57And look, I think we saw what's going on.
00:43:00And many of us will have our sympathy
00:43:02and empathy with Vinicius.
00:43:04But there has to be a legal process.
00:43:06And that legal process revolves around evidence.
00:43:09And in a case like this, evidence is difficult.
00:43:12The player had his shirt over his mouth.
00:43:15So nobody can really see what was being said.
00:43:20So this is now then down to Vinicius, his teammates,
00:43:24Kylian Mbappe and others who heard what was said.
00:43:27And their witness statements that should then
00:43:29now be given to UEFA.
00:43:32Normally, one would say, what is the objective evidence?
00:43:35But there is no objective evidence in this case.
00:43:37And I think the problem will be that we may well get diverted
00:43:41into what he said and he said.
00:43:44And it becomes divided by the color of the shirt
00:43:48that they're wearing.
00:43:48And that's not really what this should be about.
00:43:50So I'm hoping that Real Madrid understand
00:43:53that they also have a responsibility,
00:43:55which is to provide the witness statements
00:43:56of people who heard what was being said
00:43:59to aid the UEFA process.
00:44:01There has been now a precedent in 2021
00:44:05where a Rangers-Slavia-Prague match
00:44:07resulted in a Rangers player being racially abused
00:44:11in his ear.
00:44:13Again, it's difficult to see the objective evidence
00:44:16around that, difficult to find the objective evidence.
00:44:19But then it's then down to the witness statements,
00:44:23the impact statement that the player makes to UEFA.
00:44:25So Real Madrid really needs to take this on
00:44:28and understand the work that they need to do
00:44:30in order to get a legal process on their side.
00:44:34Otherwise, I fear that this will be another incident
00:44:38that is unresolved.
00:44:39Piara, thank you so much for joining us.
00:44:41And, you know, we will, of course,
00:44:44all hope that this comes to a conclusion
00:44:45as quickly as possible for everybody involved.
00:44:47But you do feel with these things
00:44:49that they take so long, don't they?
00:44:52We'll get into that in just a moment.
00:44:53But first of all, you were there last night.
00:44:55I was there last night.
00:44:56We were broadcasting next to each other.
00:44:57And you were very close to Vinicius Junior
00:45:01when this all erupted
00:45:02and could see the interactions he was having
00:45:05with his players and his fellow Real Madrid players.
00:45:07Let's take it from the moment the referee crosses his arms
00:45:09and tells the whole world and the stadium
00:45:12that there's been a racist incident
00:45:14and there's a pause.
00:45:16At that moment, Vinicius goes to the bench on his own
00:45:21and then a bunch of people starts coming to him,
00:45:23different people.
00:45:24He speaks to Mbappé and, according to Mbappé,
00:45:27they both agreed they didn't want to play anymore.
00:45:29Then Arbeloa comes in as well,
00:45:31the manager of Real Madrid,
00:45:32and then he says,
00:45:34we'll do whatever you want.
00:45:35Whatever you want, we'll do.
00:45:37Then he gets Mourinho
00:45:39and Vinicius is explaining to Mourinho,
00:45:41as we saw earlier,
00:45:42that there was a racist incident.
00:45:44And Mourinho, according to Mourinho,
00:45:46told Vinicius a couple of things.
00:45:48One, that the biggest icon of Benfica
00:45:51is a black player, Eusebio,
00:45:52and that Benfica is not a racist club.
00:45:55And he also told him,
00:45:57why did you celebrate like this?
00:45:58You scored a super goal,
00:46:00why didn't you go and hug your teammates
00:46:02and that would have been it.
00:46:04Making straight away the link,
00:46:06and he did that in three interviews
00:46:08for television,
00:46:09and also in the press conference,
00:46:10making the link between
00:46:11the reaction of the celebrations of Vinicius
00:46:14and the racist insult.
00:46:17You've got Chouameni,
00:46:18who heard from the Benfica players,
00:46:20that Prestiani,
00:46:22what he said wasn't racist,
00:46:24that he was homophobic, actually.
00:46:27And generally,
00:46:29it was all left to Vinicius,
00:46:32to decide what happened next.
00:46:33To the victim.
00:46:35Alvaro goes back to him again
00:46:36and says,
00:46:37do you want to play?
00:46:38Yeah, let's play.
00:46:38I spoke to the players afterwards,
00:46:40and the players of Real Madrid,
00:46:42they didn't have their head
00:46:43in the game at all.
00:46:45Then at the end of the game,
00:46:46they all go through the tunnel,
00:46:48and there was verbal aggression.
00:46:51There was first Mbappé
00:46:53shouting things I couldn't understand.
00:46:56Viní shouting,
00:46:57a la Madrid, a la Madrid.
00:46:58I'm sure he meant something else,
00:46:59meant to say something else,
00:47:00that's what came out of him.
00:47:02And then there was a bit of a blockage
00:47:04on the way to the changing room
00:47:05of Real Madrid by security.
00:47:07So, like 40, 50 people got together,
00:47:10including Rui Costa,
00:47:11the chairman of Mfica.
00:47:12And at that point,
00:47:13he was sometimes separating people,
00:47:15other times arguing with people,
00:47:18and then eventually things calmed down.
00:47:20And then the statements.
00:47:22So, that's the story of a game
00:47:23that, of course,
00:47:24we should be talking about the goal.
00:47:26But optimistic as I am,
00:47:28I just feel that
00:47:29because we all realise what has happened,
00:47:31because we all realise
00:47:32the wrong reaction
00:47:33of some of the people
00:47:34like Jose Mourinho,
00:47:35perhaps we will know now
00:47:36what's wrong and right.
00:47:38Get close to that.
00:47:39It's a, you know,
00:47:40fight against discrimination
00:47:41is forever going,
00:47:43and it's a daily thing.
00:47:44But did we learn something yesterday?
00:47:47We may have done.
00:47:48Well, we'll find out, won't we,
00:47:50if yesterday was a turning point
00:47:51in any way.
00:47:53You said something there, Guillaume,
00:47:55which I think I'd like to pick up
00:47:55with you, Thomas,
00:47:56about, you know,
00:47:56the victim being the person
00:47:58that everything is kind of laid on.
00:47:59It was up to him to decide
00:48:00whether, you know,
00:48:01we play this game at all
00:48:03and it continues.
00:48:04Do we put too much onus,
00:48:06do you think,
00:48:06on the player?
00:48:07And I say this is somebody
00:48:09who was working with Clarence Seedorf
00:48:10last night
00:48:10and who managed to get
00:48:11onto the Real Madrid bus
00:48:12because he wanted to speak to Vinny
00:48:13and he said to Vinny,
00:48:15this is not all down to you
00:48:17and you have to know
00:48:17that we are with you
00:48:18and that, you know,
00:48:20nobody wants this to happen in football.
00:48:21A very tiny minority
00:48:22are spoiling this.
00:48:23The beautiful game
00:48:24for so many others.
00:48:25They were his words
00:48:26to Vinny last night.
00:48:27Yeah, I think the most important thing
00:48:29in this case is Vinny Jr.,
00:48:30his well-being.
00:48:31And everybody needs to make sure
00:48:33that he's in a good state of mind
00:48:35as good as he can possibly be right now.
00:48:37You have to admire him
00:48:38because he keeps fighting this fight
00:48:40which is so important
00:48:41and of course,
00:48:42I think we all agree
00:48:42we want to talk about football
00:48:43but these things matter.
00:48:44They're so important
00:48:45because this is not just football,
00:48:47it's bigger.
00:48:48And Vinny keeps doing this.
00:48:49He gets exposed
00:48:50and he stands up to these people.
00:48:52People who want to bully him,
00:48:54discriminate him
00:48:54and that's what I admire about him
00:48:56but he needs support
00:48:57and I think last night
00:48:58and even up until now,
00:49:00he can understand
00:49:01a lot of people do support him
00:49:02but we don't live in a perfect world.
00:49:04Unfortunately,
00:49:05there are always people
00:49:06that have got something to cover up.
00:49:08So Prestiani,
00:49:09he used his shirt
00:49:10so he's had 24 hours now
00:49:12to say what he did say
00:49:13because he did say something
00:49:14that he didn't say anything racist.
00:49:16But what did you say?
00:49:17Why has he not told us what he said?
00:49:18So obviously,
00:49:19he's got something to hide
00:49:20and that is so disappointing.
00:49:22I would hope
00:49:22a club like Real Madrid,
00:49:24a federation like UEFA,
00:49:25they're so big and powerful.
00:49:27Obviously,
00:49:27the deterrent
00:49:28hasn't been sufficient enough
00:49:29when it comes to discrimination.
00:49:31It was the first time
00:49:32in a match of this profile
00:49:34or there was an incident
00:49:35in the Club World Cup
00:49:35where we saw the referees
00:49:36use the symbol
00:49:38which has been about two years now.
00:49:40This has been active,
00:49:41this protocol
00:49:42and that's where
00:49:43the referee could stop the game
00:49:44because of a racist incident
00:49:45and this can be instigated
00:49:46by a player,
00:49:47by a manager,
00:49:48by a fan.
00:49:49It could be,
00:49:50you know,
00:49:50anybody can report this.
00:49:51So there is progress
00:49:53in as much as he knew Vinny.
00:49:55He ran to the referee
00:49:56knowing that the referee
00:49:57could stop the game
00:49:58using that symbol
00:50:00which I think is great
00:50:02that Vinny realises
00:50:03he has that power.
00:50:05Yes,
00:50:05and we want to see progress.
00:50:07We want to see
00:50:09the game moving forward
00:50:10and the world moving forward
00:50:12in that way
00:50:12but I still struggle
00:50:14to get my head around
00:50:15what anyone thinks
00:50:16that he actually did wrong
00:50:17because people,
00:50:18you know,
00:50:19Jose saying that,
00:50:19you know,
00:50:20he's incited the crowd.
00:50:21No,
00:50:21he didn't.
00:50:22I mean,
00:50:22he scored an amazing goal
00:50:23which has been lost.
00:50:24We've sort of not really
00:50:25discussing the goal
00:50:26but in the aftermath of that
00:50:29he ran to the corner flag.
00:50:30That's not a problem.
00:50:31He stayed on the pitch.
00:50:32He didn't leave the playing surface
00:50:33at any time.
00:50:34He just did a little dance.
00:50:36I mean,
00:50:36if I scored a goal like that
00:50:37I wouldn't mind
00:50:38trying to do a bit of a dance.
00:50:40But even if he had
00:50:41done something to deserve
00:50:42the yellow card
00:50:43that doesn't deserve
00:50:44a racist abuse
00:50:45or having things thrown at you.
00:50:47He still didn't overreact.
00:50:48He just did a fist pump
00:50:49and then made his way
00:50:50back to the halfway line
00:50:52where he was then
00:50:53the Benfica players
00:50:54came to sort of have a go
00:50:55and he didn't do anything wrong.
00:50:57And as you say,
00:50:58even if he did do something wrong
00:50:59that does not justify
00:51:01the reaction that came.
00:51:02And it was,
00:51:03as many players have pointed out,
00:51:05it really was
00:51:05a disgraceful night.
00:51:07And as you say,
00:51:09unfortunately,
00:51:09we're not talking about
00:51:10an amazing goal
00:51:11that he scored
00:51:12and of course
00:51:13has put them ahead
00:51:14in that tie
00:51:14which will be very interesting
00:51:16to see what happens
00:51:17next week.
00:51:18OK.
00:51:19Holders Paris Saint-Germain
00:51:21had to win
00:51:22the Champions League
00:51:22last season
00:51:23having come through
00:51:24this play-off stage
00:51:25after an underwhelming
00:51:27finish to the league phase.
00:51:28They're going to have
00:51:28to do it the hard way again.
00:51:29And like last season,
00:51:31they faced Ligue 1 opposition
00:51:33in the play-off round
00:51:34making the trip to Monaco
00:51:35for the first leg.
00:51:36Mark Scott,
00:51:37watch this one.
00:51:40For the second season running,
00:51:43PSG have an all-French tie
00:51:45in the play-off round.
00:51:47They made light work
00:51:48of last year's one
00:51:49brushing Brest aside
00:51:5110-0 on aggregate.
00:51:53But Monaco have already
00:51:55beaten the holders this season
00:51:56winning 1-0 here
00:51:58in the league
00:51:59in November.
00:52:03Monaco's 1-0 win
00:52:04against Paris Saint-Germain
00:52:06here in November
00:52:07ended a run of
00:52:08three straight defeats
00:52:10for them
00:52:10against PSG
00:52:11which has seen them
00:52:13slip off the
00:52:15Liga Summit
00:52:16replaced there
00:52:17by Lens.
00:52:21Colovine
00:52:21queuing up in there
00:52:23big chance!
00:52:24Oh, what a start!
00:52:25Balogun for Monaco!
00:52:29less than a minute gone
00:52:30and following
00:52:33Balogun
00:52:33has nodded
00:52:35Monaco in front
00:52:36against the holders.
00:52:39Sebastian
00:52:40Pocconoli's side
00:52:42off to a flyer.
00:52:45Colovine
00:52:46Balogun
00:52:47and he could be in here
00:52:48big chance!
00:52:50it's two!
00:52:52and it's Balogun again!
00:52:54the holders in big trouble now
00:52:58following Balogun
00:53:00with a bullet-like strike
00:53:03to double Monaco's lead!
00:53:10now here's a chance for Kvarrat-Skelia
00:53:13all risky
00:53:14penalty
00:53:15immediate way back into the game
00:53:17for PSG
00:53:18and a booking for Voutfast as well
00:53:22Betinha
00:53:23scored against Newcastle
00:53:25in Paris' last Champions League game
00:53:27but it's saved!
00:53:29second game running
00:53:30that PSG
00:53:31have had a penalty
00:53:33kept at bay
00:53:34by the keeper!
00:53:37an interesting change here
00:53:39midway through the first half
00:53:41Ousmane Dembele is taken off
00:53:43and Desiree Douay
00:53:45comes on
00:53:50plenty to ponder
00:53:51for Luis Enrique
00:53:53this side have been sluggished
00:53:55and they've been punished
00:53:56and they are 2-0 down
00:54:02a bit of a heavy touch
00:54:03which allowed Nuno Mendes
00:54:05to step in
00:54:06Nuno Mendes nearly
00:54:07got it back again
00:54:11needs to steal
00:54:12Lanzano
00:54:12not buying that appeal
00:54:14for a free kick
00:54:15Bacala
00:54:16Bacala
00:54:18cute pass
00:54:19Douay
00:54:20oh yes
00:54:21talk about it
00:54:23impact sub
00:54:25Desiree
00:54:26Douay drills in
00:54:28to bring Paris Saint-Germain
00:54:30back to within a goal
00:54:38Nuno Mendes
00:54:40there's room now
00:54:41for Douay
00:54:45Desiree Douay
00:54:46has gone for another one
00:54:47and that's a decent stop
00:54:49oh but the rebound's in
00:54:51Ashraf Hakimi's leveled for PSG
00:54:54and Luis Enrique's side
00:54:56back on terms
00:54:58after two very nicely taken goals
00:55:07Golovin jumping in
00:55:09that's a foul
00:55:10for the challenge
00:55:11by Golovin
00:55:12and that's a yellow card
00:55:13for him as well
00:55:14well they are just checking
00:55:15whether this
00:55:16might need to be upgraded
00:55:20and here it comes
00:55:22it's a red
00:55:23and the drama
00:55:24just keeps on coming
00:55:25in this one
00:55:26Alexander Golovin is off
00:55:32out in Monaco
00:55:33approach the rest
00:55:35of the game
00:55:39Zaire Emery
00:55:41quickly on to Kvarenskelia
00:55:43Hakimi joining the attack
00:55:46Zaire Emery
00:55:47they're queuing up in there
00:55:48and it's in from Douay
00:55:49and the holders
00:55:51have turned it around
00:55:52to lead
00:55:52they've been pushing
00:55:53they've been probing
00:55:55and finally
00:55:56the ten man's resistance
00:55:58is broken
00:55:59and they
00:56:00have shown the class
00:56:01of champions
00:56:02to lead
00:56:03the game now
00:56:04and leave themselves
00:56:06in a very strong position
00:56:10yeah that was
00:56:11a comeback and a half
00:56:13wasn't it
00:56:13from Paris Saint-Germain
00:56:14particularly a Douay comeback
00:56:15super sub
00:56:16was indeed
00:56:18and the thing is that he was
00:56:19man of the match in the
00:56:20Champions League final
00:56:20this season hasn't been going
00:56:22so well for him
00:56:23but when he came on for
00:56:24Dembélé he definitely
00:56:25changed the game because
00:56:26he was involved in all three
00:56:28goals
00:56:28his all-round performance
00:56:29was just so brilliant
00:56:30and that's what I'm thinking
00:56:31because people haven't really
00:56:33talked about PSG so much
00:56:34this season in the
00:56:35Champions League
00:56:35but it was similar last season
00:56:37this time of the year
00:56:38they switched gears
00:56:39and then they ended up
00:56:40winning this competition
00:56:42but again Douay yesterday
00:56:43he has been criticised
00:56:44in recent weeks
00:56:46but to come on like this
00:56:47and as I said
00:56:48from 2-0 down to
00:56:49to win the game
00:56:50and being so influential
00:56:51it makes me think
00:56:52that not only Douay
00:56:53but this entire team
00:56:55is one to look out for
00:56:56and we're all familiar
00:56:58with these players
00:56:58Kravatskelia here again
00:57:00and then as I said
00:57:01this was the 3-2
00:57:02and Monaco
00:57:03would have thought
00:57:04you know
00:57:04wasting this 2-0 lead
00:57:06really makes
00:57:07they have had some key
00:57:08injuries haven't they
00:57:09through the last few months
00:57:10Kravatskelia is another
00:57:11of those players who's been
00:57:12in and out
00:57:13but there you go Douay
00:57:14definitely in
00:57:15definitely on
00:57:16yesterday
00:57:16his celebration has a bit
00:57:18of a back story
00:57:19and Thomas alluded to it
00:57:20a little bit there Guillaume
00:57:21Yes
00:57:22remember he's 20
00:57:23so he thinks he knows
00:57:24everything
00:57:24and in a recent game
00:57:26against Olympique de Marseille
00:57:27his captain
00:57:28Dembélé told him
00:57:29three or four times
00:57:31probably didn't listen
00:57:32because after the defeat
00:57:33against Rennes
00:57:343-1
00:57:35Dembélé goes to the press
00:57:36conference and actually
00:57:37has a go at him
00:57:38without mentioning him
00:57:40and ends up on the bench
00:57:41in this important game
00:57:42because he are now
00:57:43second in the table
00:57:44they needed to win here
00:57:45and of course
00:57:46when he comes on
00:57:47scores
00:57:48and he's just trying
00:57:49to say to the world
00:57:51I'm not listening to you
00:57:52I'm doing what I need to do
00:57:53which is yeah
00:57:54this
00:57:54but probably he has to listen
00:57:56but hard not to pick him
00:57:57when he's doing stuff like that
00:57:58isn't it
00:57:58and if they are going to go on
00:58:00and replicate what they did
00:58:01last season
00:58:02they are going to have to
00:58:03tighten things up at the back
00:58:04yeah concerning actually
00:58:06I mean Luis Enrique
00:58:07described it as a catastrophic
00:58:08start
00:58:09and he wasn't wrong
00:58:10I mean there's nothing wrong
00:58:11with them being really spread out
00:58:12when they're in possession
00:58:13of the ball
00:58:13I mean it's very unusual
00:58:14I mean Mendes with that
00:58:16cross field pass
00:58:17give the ball away
00:58:18but in that moment
00:58:19you have to organise
00:58:20you have to get back into shape
00:58:21as quickly as possible
00:58:22and Mokinos jumps
00:58:23out of position
00:58:24they allow Golovin
00:58:25into the space behind
00:58:27and Paco makes the decision
00:58:29is he going across
00:58:30he does
00:58:31but he doesn't go soon enough
00:58:32to be able to stop the cross
00:58:33and because of that
00:58:34the knock-on effect is
00:58:35minutes into the
00:58:36one minute into the game
00:58:38outnumbered at the back post
00:58:39and they can see the goal
00:58:40okay maybe that happens
00:58:41sometimes you have mistakes
00:58:43but this was
00:58:44only after 18 minutes
00:58:46and they start by defending it
00:58:47with only eight men
00:58:48which means then you're out of position
00:58:49trying to cover
00:58:50Hakimi's too high up the pitch
00:58:51the defenders
00:58:52centre-halves
00:58:53are one in front of the other
00:58:54in that moment
00:58:55and you're always going to
00:58:56find that difficult
00:58:57to be able to defend properly
00:58:58they try and recover
00:58:59they get six players
00:59:00around the ball
00:59:01no one could stop the pass
00:59:02and Balogun gets in
00:59:04to make it 2-0
00:59:05and they were
00:59:06they were
00:59:07half the cause
00:59:08of their own problems
00:59:09with really poor defenders
00:59:10which I'm not used to seeing from
00:59:12certainly last year
00:59:13in their run to the
00:59:14Champions League final
00:59:15and this victory
00:59:15and I just think that
00:59:17that'll be a wake-up call
00:59:18for them to try and move on
00:59:19in the competition
00:59:20OK, thank you for the moment
00:59:22plenty of goals
00:59:23in Monaco then
00:59:24and there were even more
00:59:25in Istanbul
00:59:26where Galatasaray
00:59:27faced Juventus
00:59:28the winner of this one
00:59:29over two legs
00:59:30would play Liverpool
00:59:31or Tottenham
00:59:32in the round of 16
00:59:33Stephen Wyeth
00:59:34is your commentator
00:59:37Galatasaray
00:59:38Galatasaray
00:59:38faded after a strong
00:59:39league face start
00:59:40winless in their final four
00:59:42Juventus
00:59:43won three in a row
00:59:44at one point
00:59:45but too many draws
00:59:46cost them a top eight finish
00:59:48so they play off
00:59:49for the right to face
00:59:50Premier League opposition
00:59:51either Liverpool
00:59:53or Spurs
00:59:54are next
00:59:58and Diazo's throw
00:59:59or awkward one
01:00:00and here's a chance
01:00:02no Alain couldn't get his feet sorted out
01:00:05but Gabriel Serra can
01:00:08well a combination of Galatasaray pressure
01:00:12and Juventus failure
01:00:14has seen the home side strike first
01:00:21what sort of response do we get from Juve?
01:00:25Kambiar's up
01:00:28the response is immediate
01:00:30Kalulu's effort dealt with
01:00:32but Thun Kupmeiners there
01:00:34to tap in the rebound
01:00:37Urjan Shakir's save
01:00:38was in vain
01:00:39because Thun Kupmeiners
01:00:42was brilliantly placed
01:00:49he won the ball
01:00:52Kupmeiners
01:00:53played a little one-two
01:00:54Kupmeiners is in
01:00:55and has thumped Juventus in front
01:00:59sensational finish
01:01:02from 1-0 down
01:01:04Juventus lead 2-1
01:01:06courtesy of a pair of Thun Kupmeiners goals
01:01:09the first
01:01:10a simple finish
01:01:12the second
01:01:13a truly spectacular one
01:01:15after the pass was exchanged
01:01:17with Weston McKennie
01:01:18the Italian side
01:01:20have turned it around
01:01:21they lead 2-1
01:01:24for Baris
01:01:27away from Khabar
01:01:29still has assistance from Jaloi
01:01:31cross charge down by Turam
01:01:34Locatelli
01:01:35getting it to the ball
01:01:35Baris across the face of goal
01:01:37and there's the equaliser
01:01:40Galatasaray rewarded for a bright start
01:01:42to the second half
01:01:43Noah Lang
01:01:44has tapped in to level things up once again
01:01:48Di Gregorio
01:01:49could only palm the ball into the bath of Noah Lang
01:01:55and Shakir
01:01:58here's Eunice Bakul
01:02:02Baris
01:02:03he's going to get away from Kamal
01:02:08and doing so until he was hauled down
01:02:11and it's a yellow card for one Kamal
01:02:23Gabriel Serra
01:02:24fires it in
01:02:25and it's got all the way through
01:02:27with a little bit of assistance
01:02:29soft ahead of Davinson Sanchez
01:02:31this cup tie pendulum swings again
01:02:34a wonderful set piece
01:02:36and a committed dart towards the ball
01:02:39by Davinson Sanchez
01:02:42and the former Tottenham defender
01:02:44gets his first goal in the Champions League proper
01:02:52set forward by
01:02:56Irvin Shakir
01:02:58oh now then
01:03:00is this further trouble for Juventus
01:03:02because the card is out again
01:03:03and it's a second yellow for Juan Cabal
01:03:07once again penalised for a foul on Baris-El for Yilmaz
01:03:10his arm was high and dangling
01:03:12but he was being grappled from behind
01:03:15and things have unravelled and unravelled quickly for Juventus in the
01:03:20second half, Ballis with the layoff, somehow it's find Ishmael Jakobs, he's pulled it back
01:03:30towards Ballis, trying to juggle his way beyond Juve defenders, oh dearie me
01:03:40catastrophic from Juventus, punished by Lang for his second and Galatasaray's
01:03:48fall, Turab initially misjudged and he gave Lloyd Kelly a whole heap of problems to deal
01:03:57with, the support from Noah Lang just made the ball in the back of the Juventus goal somewhat
01:04:08inevitable, Davinson Sanchez, Sasha Boye towards Ossiemen, Sasha Boye has a fifth for Galatasaray,
01:04:20it's a thumping finish and this is a night in the Champions League that is as good as they've
01:04:27had it in a long time, it is finished to the Ali Sami in, Galatasaray 5, Juventus 2.
01:04:37Well unsurprisingly the reaction to Juventus' loss was strong in Italy on Wednesday, Tutos
01:04:43Sport went with Juventus total alarm on their back page while Corriere dello Sport said Juve
01:04:49they were sunk by Bremer's injury and withdrawal, if we saw the sub that went right for PSG then
01:04:57Juventus 2 went up at half time, the second half would definitely be the sub that went wrong.
01:05:01Yeah absolutely, I mean Luciano Spalletti thinking he's making the right decision, taking
01:05:06Cambiasso off to make sure he doesn't get a second yellow card and get sent off, brought
01:05:10on Cabal who got nutmegged for this first goal, certainly involved with poor defendant getting
01:05:18caught out and quite quickly Galatasaray were levelled back in the game but it just went
01:05:23from bad to worse, he now gets a yellow card quite early after 59 minutes, this free kick
01:05:29for this poor tackle now leads to a goal, more poor defendant from Juventus in this moment, yes
01:05:36they should have defended it better but for that substitute you're trying to get right,
01:05:4167 minutes, he's not been on the pitch an awful lot of time, he's picked up his second
01:05:47yellow card and gets sent off and as you said talk about getting something wrong, yes
01:05:51he's frustrated, certainly not what he wanted to achieve, he just didn't seem like he was
01:05:56ready for action but ok we've got 10 men, let's see this game through but no, I mean that
01:06:00is a dreadful mistake from Turan, just get rid of the ball, do not give it to Lloyd Kelly,
01:06:06inside his own penalty area with players breathing down his neck and I mean Juventus,
01:06:12Spalletti, half time, you're comfortable, you're winning, you're in a good position and suddenly
01:06:17at the end of the game after a really poor decision to make a substitution, it's all gone
01:06:21wrong. They do have a very impressive home record, Galatasaray, obviously they've got a
01:06:25lot to do Juventus in that second leg but saying they go through with that three goal lead they
01:06:30could face Liverpool or Spurs, so let's have a look from their perspective at the home record that
01:06:35Galatasaray have had of late and it shows that you know it's a bit of a fortress for them,
01:06:42Liverpool lost there of course early in the Champions League, their opening game in fact,
01:06:46so it's not somewhere that you go lightly. No, it can be quite intimidating, I've been in
01:06:51Istanbul twice, one at Fenerbahce and one Galatasaray for the Derby, it really can be and I don't
01:06:55know Cabal maybe that hurts him so much because you go in and their fans are so emotional, the atmosphere
01:07:01there is, you know, as a football fan I would recommend, highly recommend to go there, want
01:07:05there to experience it because it really, they change games.
01:07:08Okay, thank you. Three more games and ten more goals still to show you. In a quirk of the way
01:07:13things
01:07:13are laid out in the draw, one of Liverpool or Tottenham will face the winners between
01:07:18Club Bruges and Atletico Madrid. The first leg in Belgium was watched by Stuart Robson
01:07:23and Jonathan Pearce. They struck first in four of their last five Champions League games,
01:07:30Atleti as a corner comes in, underneath that was Seis, Duncan Seis, clearly trying to turn
01:07:37the ball back into the middle, and the shot there blocked by Mekale. There's a big shout
01:07:45for hand ball by the Atleti players, comes off the arm of Seis, he didn't know too much
01:07:50about it, did he? You can see why they're looking at this. Atletico Madrid have a penalty.
01:08:00It will be Mignolet who will take it. And Mignolet stood rooted to the spot, and it's
01:08:10Bruggenheim, Atletico Madrid 1 inside eight minutes. Yeah, I think Mignolet was hoping
01:08:14he'd go down the middle. So just did make a dive, but it's a very good penalty.
01:08:21Alvarez, in the last ten seconds of the half. Griezmann, OK, good movement, Ruggieri came
01:08:27in. Could be a late corner here if they've got time. Alvarez with the corner. Second here,
01:08:38could be deadly for the home side, and Atleti do get a second. Griezmann got the flick on
01:08:42up the near post, Lugman was arriving. Griezmann will claim the goal, I think. 2-0 to Atleti
01:08:48on the stroke of half-time. Oh, that's a real blow for Bruggen. Well, first things first,
01:08:54it's a great delivery into the box, into that near post area. Griezmann gets a flick,
01:09:00Lugman and the defender were very close to it. I think Lugman will get the goal.
01:09:08Sabe, good turn by Solic, looks a lively player, Stankovic, and a fine piece of
01:09:13defensive recovery by Mark Pugl, it's a corner to club Bruggen. Now, if he has the
01:09:18opportunity again, I think he would have been better off shooting
01:09:21across the goalkeeper, just hitting it with power.
01:09:23Out swings the corner kick, it's headed goalwards, and a brilliant save,
01:09:28but it's it! They have a goal back, and it's Raphael on Yedica.
01:09:33Five minutes into the second half, Bruggen one, Atleti two.
01:09:37Well, the Atleti players are all looking across to the assistants,
01:09:40they've all got their hands up for offside.
01:09:43It was a lovely save by Oblak from Solic,
01:09:47looked with the naked eye as if he was being played on.
01:09:51Goal give up. Bruggen one, Atleti two.
01:10:00Onyedica again took up a good position.
01:10:03Now Diakon.
01:10:06Goes again, dead ball line, it comes across, it's 2-2!
01:10:10Nikolo Trisoldi!
01:10:12He's had a very good game, and on the hour they've clawed back a two-goal deficit.
01:10:17What a start to the second half here, here's the switch of play.
01:10:24Sadi works the defender, starts to go back, realises where it's going to go,
01:10:28then just gets into that near-post space, brilliant.
01:10:34Wide is Ruggieri, and it continues the run.
01:10:39Now Matteo Ruggieri.
01:10:43Koke, looking for Solac, big chance for the substitute.
01:10:47Get the frame of the goal.
01:10:50Well, that's what he can do, great ball from Koke.
01:10:53It's a very good attempt.
01:10:57Alex Boehner.
01:11:01Strong ending by Atleti, 12 to go.
01:11:05Llorente, early ball in, Solac attacked it, and scores!
01:11:09And Odonez switched off, and it might have gone in off him.
01:11:14But Atleti, who've been strong in the last two or three minutes,
01:11:17in this topsy-turvy tie, now lead 3-2.
01:11:21An own goal by John Odonez.
01:11:24Well, that's a good ball played out wide.
01:11:26There's the run from Llorente, he plays it into a good area,
01:11:29and he's trying to play it out for a corner, and he passes it into his own net.
01:11:33But Odonez, big, big moment for Atleti.
01:11:40On Yudica, opportunity perhaps here for Solac.
01:11:44They've done it again.
01:11:46Or have they?
01:11:48Or have they?
01:11:49The arm goes up, the flag goes up.
01:11:52And Hope turns to this bet.
01:11:56Very, very tight, this.
01:11:58It's a good finish, really good finish.
01:12:02I think it was Molina that was the closest player to playing him onside.
01:12:09Is this 3-3?
01:12:13It's a goal.
01:12:13It's a goal, and it's 3-3.
01:12:15What a fantastic game we've seen.
01:12:18The second half has been brilliant, particularly from Club Brugge.
01:12:24Olympiacos won their last three league-phase games to make the playoffs.
01:12:28They faced Bayer Leverkusen, currently sixth in the Bundesliga.
01:12:33Normally can bank on giving themselves a foothold and a tie
01:12:38by getting a result on home turf.
01:12:40Olympiacos, they've got six of their seven home legs.
01:12:47Here is Schick, who's through, big chance, 1-0.
01:12:52Clinical from Patrick Schick to put Bayer Leverkusen in front.
01:12:58Rapid counter from Leverkusen.
01:13:01Schick with the intelligent run.
01:13:03And Poku's pass was made to measure.
01:13:11It's another goal on the road for Patrick Schick.
01:13:13All three of his strikes in this season's Champions League
01:13:19have come on Leverkusen's travels.
01:13:26Schick rising again.
01:13:28It's two!
01:13:29Patrick Schick at the double.
01:13:31And Leverkusen take a stranglehold on the tie.
01:13:36Two goals in three minutes from Patrick Schick.
01:13:40Has put Leverkusen firmly on course for the last 16.
01:13:47One more playoff first leg tie to show you.
01:13:50Both Borussia Dortmund and Atalanta were well placed to reach the last 16 automatically
01:13:54before losing their last two league phase games.
01:13:57The two sides met in front of the yellow wall for the first leg.
01:14:04What a noise inside this wonderful stadium.
01:14:09That's a Super Bowl down the left-hand side.
01:14:13Brandt was hoping to get on the end of that.
01:14:15Chipped up by Bellingham looking for Bayer.
01:14:18He's brought that down very nicely.
01:14:21He's got Riessen available.
01:14:25It's a lovely ball in!
01:14:27Oh, what a start for Dortmund!
01:14:29It's Girassi!
01:14:32The home side lead with just two minutes on the watch.
01:14:36A classic far-closed header for his fourth Champions League goal of the season.
01:14:43Towering lead by Girassi above Kasunu.
01:14:48And the Guinea forward gives Dortmund an early lead here in the first leg of this playoff.
01:14:56Girassi working the channels and he's in behind here, Girassi.
01:15:01Can he find Bayer?
01:15:03There he is!
01:15:052-0 Dortmund!
01:15:08And Max Bayer grabs the second.
01:15:11Made by Girassi.
01:15:13All he had to do was touch it over the line.
01:15:17For his first Champions League goal of the season.
01:15:21He's clearly onside.
01:15:23And he nearly got his feet in a right muddle there, but he did it up.
01:15:31Playing with a great deal of confidence now.
01:15:34And Girassi's in again and a tangle with Kasunu.
01:15:38But no foul.
01:15:40The referee says get up.
01:15:42And I think Kasunu just managed to withdraw the arm over the shoulder in time.
01:15:49Here it comes from Riessen.
01:15:52Right on the line.
01:15:53And drilled over by Brandt.
01:15:55The Dortmund captain with a big opportunity here.
01:15:59But he just couldn't quite get his foot over the ball and it spins over the bar.
01:16:06Well, it was a cracker in Bruges tonight.
01:16:10But Atleti will be wondering how they threw that away.
01:16:13Let's put the context.
01:16:14In the last five years they've spent £150 million net.
01:16:18Pounds net.
01:16:19And yet they're not winning anything.
01:16:21They're 15 points away from Real Madrid.
01:16:23They go 2-0 up against Bruges and they cannot keep that up.
01:16:27They beat Betis 5-1 away and then they lose against Betis at home in the league.
01:16:33And then beat Barcelona 4-0 in the cup.
01:16:35And then they lose against Rayo 3-0.
01:16:37There's no consistency.
01:16:39They don't defend well.
01:16:40They don't attack in an organised attack.
01:16:43And Simeone remains there.
01:16:45But there's new ownership.
01:16:47Apollo, one of the biggest investment groups in the world.
01:16:50I think they've got £850 billion money available.
01:16:54And they're going to put money into the club.
01:16:56They bring a new CEO who is pushing with the idea that perhaps it's time for a change.
01:17:01End of an era.
01:17:02Simeone will go when he wants to.
01:17:04But when you feel at the edge, you perhaps go like, yeah, all right, better go.
01:17:09It just feels like something could happen, something like that could happen soon.
01:17:12OK, thank you very much.
01:17:13Hasn't been a great week for the Italian side, has it, either, in these first legs.
01:17:16A reminder of the overall picture, then, as we head straight into the second legs of the playoffs next week.
01:17:23Defending champions PSG hold a first-leg advantage over Monaco.
01:17:26And the winners of that will face either Barcelona or Chelsea.
01:17:29As will Newcastle, barring a miracle from Carabao.
01:17:33Juventus will need to overturn a three-goal deficit in Turin against Galatasaray.
01:17:37Now Liverpool or Tottenham are next for the winner of that one.
01:17:40Real Madrid will take a slender lead back to the Bernabeu,
01:17:43while Inter have it all to do at San Siro against Bodo.
01:17:46Supporting Lisbon or Manchester City await the winners of those two clashes.
01:17:49And for more reaction and debate on the big talking points this week,
01:17:52check out EuroLeague's podcast on the daily stream.

01:18:06And Friday night's live Bundesliga offering is Mainz against Hamburg on iPlayer.
01:18:11Thank you so much, Thomas and Leon and Guillaume.
01:18:14So those Newcastle fans will still be making their way back from Bacca,
01:18:17but they'll be happy thanks to a fantastic four from Anthony Gordon.
01:18:21Second legs to come next week. Bye-bye.
01:18:22CHOI N từng
01:18:25Oh, dear man, who doesn't stand best for all.
01:18:36It is on the track right.
01:18:45Dear nice man, dear best man,
01:18:52with brothers and kings,
01:18:57the champions.
