00:00:00Rooney O'Connor!
00:00:03Welcome to Match of the Dead.
00:00:30MUSIC PLAYS
00:00:45Hello. Just 363 sleeps until Christmas.
00:00:49Eight Premier League games should help pass the time.
00:00:51Alan Shearer and Wayne Rooney were the pundits most desperate
00:00:54to get out of the house.
00:00:56It was an emotional day at the city ground as Nottingham Forest
00:00:59remembered club legend John Robertson,
00:01:02who died over Christmas at the age of 72.
00:01:05Robertson, who was once compared to Picasso by his manager Brian Clough,
00:01:09appeared in 243 consecutive games for Forest between 1976 and 1980,
00:01:16winning back-to-back European Cups
00:01:18and scoring the only goal in the final against Hamburg in 1980.
00:01:22He left Forest in 1983
00:01:24for what was a controversial move to Peter Taylor's Derby
00:01:27but returned two years later before retiring shortly afterwards.
00:01:31Post-playing, he'd work as assistant manager to his former Forest team-mate,
00:01:35Martin O'Neill.
00:01:37Robertson won 28 caps for Scotland, featuring in the 1978 and 1982
00:01:42World Cup squads and scored the winner against England at Wembley in 1981.
00:01:47Tributes were paid before today's game against Manchester City.
00:01:52Commentary comes from Martin Fisher.
00:01:56It's an emotional day on Trent's side.
00:01:59The sad news has hit Forest fans hard.
00:02:02Rovo was a genuine legend.
00:02:05Manager Sean Dyche got to know him well in recent years.
00:02:08How dearly he would love his side to produce a fitting tribute on the pitch.
00:02:14He's made one change to the side that lost at Fulham on Monday
00:02:17with Nicolas Dominguez preferred to Douglas Luiz in midfield.
00:02:21John Victor again retains his place in goal despite Matt Sells being fit again.
00:02:27Manchester City arrive on the back of five successive league wins
00:02:31with top of the table Arsenal in their sights.
00:02:34Unchanged for the third game in a row with Erling Haaland one shy of 150 goals for the club.
00:02:41He boasts five in six games against Forest.
00:02:44A deafening minutes of applause echoes around the city ground and across the river Trent and into the city.
00:03:05Forest have done well at the city ground since Sean Dyche took over,
00:03:09winning four of their six games in all competitions,
00:03:11but this definitely their toughest test yet.
00:03:16Hudson-Odoi, two against Spurs in Forest's last game here.
00:03:22Decent ball in!
00:03:24Gibbs-White and Igor Jesus between them, couldn't get a touch.
00:03:29What a glorious ball in from Forest's left winger today.
00:03:35Shades of Robbo with that delivery.
00:03:37Oh, for a Bertels or a Woodcock on the end of that.
00:03:40Oh!
00:03:48Quickly taken Bernardo Silva, Pesceki!
00:03:51And the challenge from Milenkovic was in the nick of time.
00:03:55Forest just a little bit caught off guard there,
00:03:59Milenkovic wasn't, and was in strongly.
00:04:03They are having a look.
00:04:05Check complete and cleared.
00:04:12Referee thought about blowing and now does.
00:04:15Igor Jesus continues to win his side.
00:04:18Free kicks.
00:04:22And a yellow card for his process.
00:04:25Yes, Ruben Diaz the first in the referee's book today.
00:04:34But immediately, some work to do defensively,
00:04:36Ruben Diaz running across the path there.
00:04:38And Igor Jesus has got the free kick and now is waving an imaginary card
00:04:43in the direction of referee Robb Jones, which is never the cleverest thing to do.
00:04:48And Diaz saw the run of the Brazilian, kicked his heel.
00:04:53But that is unnecessary from the Forest centre-forward.
00:04:58Manchester City with work to do, if they are to significantly keep the pressure on Arsenal.
00:05:04They have a ball around the corner, Reinders is in, and Reinders scores.
00:05:10It hasn't taken Manchester City long, two and a half minutes after the restart.
00:05:16Reinders again, he's in a rich vein of form, three in his last five starts.
00:05:23Forest so resilient in the first half, picked apart at the start of the second.
00:05:29And whatever Pep Guardiola said during the break has come up trunks.
00:05:35Forest nil, Manchester City one.
00:05:45Reinders, Schierke, Harland making the run this time,
00:05:48he might have strayed into an offside position,
00:05:50so Schierke goes alone and gets the shot away,
00:05:53tips on to the post by Jean-Victor.
00:05:56Oh, it's brilliant from Reinders, Schierke.
00:05:59Pass for the goal was his seventh assist, went alone here.
00:06:03And it's the fingertips of the goalkeeper and the post that manages to deny him.
00:06:08Here goes Harland with an important touch, Schierke.
00:06:13Harland again.
00:06:15Now Foden.
00:06:20Reinders again.
00:06:22Just lost his balance and Gibbs-White carries it away for Nottingham Forest.
00:06:26Went to the door.
00:06:33Gibbs-White again.
00:06:35Clever ball.
00:06:36Here goes Jesus, Hutchinson on marked back post.
00:06:39Here he is.
00:06:401-1.
00:06:46That was a brilliant goal.
00:06:49From one end of the pitch to the other.
00:06:52Amari Hutchinson with the final touch.
00:06:55His first goal in a Forest jersey.
00:06:57But look where this move started.
00:07:00Gibbs-White carries it.
00:07:02Collects from Hudson-Odoi.
00:07:07Eagles-Jesus, look at the space that Hutchinson had got.
00:07:10City court napping back post.
00:07:12And Hutchinson thumps it home.
00:07:15And Forest were not behind for very long.
00:07:19Forest won.
00:07:20Manchester City won.
00:07:22What a ball from Anderson.
00:07:25Shame that Hutchinson couldn't take it in his stride,
00:07:28but Forest still on the move.
00:07:30Hutchinson's ball in.
00:07:31Eagles-Jesus.
00:07:32Gibbs-White.
00:07:36Anderson will have it, but Hutchinson has other ideas.
00:07:39Twinkle toes from him.
00:07:40Anderson's still available.
00:07:42Curls it in.
00:07:44Away by Mateusz Nunes.
00:07:47Down for Gibbs-White.
00:07:48On for Williams to have a go!
00:07:50Donnarumma away, Savona!
00:07:55Well, he rushed the shot.
00:07:56And the chance has gone begging.
00:07:58Donnarumma is relieved.
00:08:00It looked as though this wasn't going to test him from Williams,
00:08:03but it bounced awkwardly.
00:08:05Donnarumma mightily relieved to see Savona put it over the bar.
00:08:09He has scored a couple of important goals this season
00:08:11against big teams as well.
00:08:13Manchester United and Liverpool.
00:08:18Burrillo's touch was heavy.
00:08:19Foden couldn't get there quickly enough.
00:08:22Foden couldn't get there quickly enough.
00:08:24Foden, Foden, Bernardo Silva.
00:08:27Foden is in, brilliant!
00:08:30Oh, what a save!
00:08:31What a stop by Jean-Victor!
00:08:34Oh, he enjoyed that all right.
00:08:37That was magical approach from Manchester City.
00:08:40Quick, crisp, accurate passing.
00:08:43And before they knew it, Foden saw Foden taking aim and firing.
00:08:47Mostly inside the ground thought that that would hit the back of the net.
00:08:51Jean-Victor had other ideas.
00:08:57That's the intelligent ball from Savona.
00:08:59Might be a chance here for Haaland.
00:09:00Milenkovic does just enough.
00:09:04It locked for a moment or two there as though Haaland had got goalside.
00:09:08But Milenkovic stuck to his task.
00:09:10City have four players in the six-yard box.
00:09:17It's deeper towards Gavardio.
00:09:19Came off of Forest Head.
00:09:21Another corner.
00:09:22Foden to try again.
00:09:29The game goes deep, but this time it does find the head of Gavardio.
00:09:34Driven in.
00:09:35Shek is scored.
00:09:37City in front, again.
00:09:40Set up the first, scores the second.
00:09:43This Frenchman is having quite an impact on Manchester City this season.
00:09:48It's his first Premier League goal since the opening day of the season
00:09:53when he came on as a sub against Wolves in that comfortable 4-0 success.
00:09:58Nothing comfortable about this game, but will it stand?
00:10:01That's the question.
00:10:03Andy Madley, our VAR today, is busy checking this.
00:10:08Clever header down by Gavardio.
00:10:11And an unerring finish from Schierke.
00:10:14Donnarumma joyously celebrates and the goal will stand.
00:10:19They have not been at their best today, Manchester City,
00:10:23because their best is right at the top.
00:10:27But with that strike from Schierke, they might be at the top for at least a few hours.
00:10:34That performance must give you great optimism for the future and great pride.
00:10:38Well, we certainly not lacked pride or optimism, but I know what you mean.
00:10:41It's reinforced the good work the players are doing.
00:10:43I thought they were terrific from start to finish.
00:10:45You know, the goals we can pick the bones out, I'm sure we will.
00:10:48But how we don't get the referee today, I'm lost for words about that.
00:10:53Our player gets thrown to the floor, nothing's done.
00:10:55They score for me. It's getting ridiculous now.
00:10:57We know there's no intention for them to head the ball.
00:10:59He just pushes him to the floor. Can't do that in a corner.
00:11:01I couldn't believe how they had Senraal stayed on the pitch.
00:11:03He brings Igor down early in the second half, a little bit over the top.
00:11:06You know, when they say things like it's an accident,
00:11:08still he held a card whether it's an expert or not.
00:11:10You got that opening goal so soon after the restart.
00:11:13And as soon as it hit the net, you turned away and celebrated with Pep.
00:11:16Was there something you particularly did at the break that he told you
00:11:19what we should do to get that goal?
00:11:21Pep is so good. People from Liverpool, they know it.
00:11:23So he's an incredible manager. So maybe I'm his assistant.
00:11:28He's the top.
00:11:29And we talked during the game, the first half, the second half,
00:11:32in half-time what you should do to have some extra players in that position.
00:11:36So we knew that the red red mentality is impossible to win the game today.
00:11:41You seem to come out for the second half with an extra determination in your step.
00:11:45What was said during the break?
00:11:47He said, let's do it again and again. Try again.
00:11:51Because when we find the little space, we win this game.
00:11:55And today is that.
00:11:57Well, a nice Christmassy ring to the goal scorers,
00:11:59Cherky and Reinders.
00:12:01Just say it to yourself a few times.
00:12:03And those tweaks at half-time certainly paid dividends, didn't they?
00:12:06Yeah, there's no doubt about it.
00:12:07That's what they tried to do.
00:12:10Certainly second half.
00:12:11This is the first half.
00:12:12Well, that's the system they're playing against.
00:12:14The four or five when they're defending.
00:12:16Four, five, one.
00:12:17And Cherky and Foden there.
00:12:18Then you've got Reinders who were sitting at those,
00:12:20a little bit deeper than the other two.
00:12:22But Haaland was isolated a little bit at times
00:12:25because all of a sudden you've got into that position,
00:12:27which is a decent one.
00:12:28But Milenkovich and Marilla, 2v1,
00:12:31didn't really get any joy because of that situation.
00:12:34Similar sort of thing happens here.
00:12:36Now I've got the three there.
00:12:38But there's Reinders again that we've got highlighted.
00:12:41And again, they work it into a decent position.
00:12:44But similar sort of things happen again.
00:12:47They did well to get in there, but similar thing again.
00:12:492v1, not a lot of space and nothing comes of it.
00:12:53But then the only time it happened in the first half
00:12:56was when Reinders did get a little bit further forward
00:12:59and then started to ask questions of that Forest defence.
00:13:02Because all of a sudden it's not 2v1 or 3v1.
00:13:06It's actually 3v3, which City don't mind that at all
00:13:09and are quite comfortable when that happens.
00:13:11There's the space there.
00:13:12And as I said, all of a sudden it opens up
00:13:14because the centre half then has to come onto Reinders
00:13:18and you've got that 3v3 situation,
00:13:21which City will punish you more often than not when that happens.
00:13:24A better ball in and Haaland's in.
00:13:26And a great example of that is in the second half with their goal.
00:13:29And this is what happens.
00:13:30All of a sudden, look, Reinders is now up alongside Erland Haaland.
00:13:34At times he actually went past them.
00:13:36They've now got buddies in and around him.
00:13:38So centre-halves and full-backs have got to do something different,
00:13:41which they didn't do in the first half.
00:13:43Centre-half's got to look at Cherki.
00:13:45He's also got to have one eye on Reinders,
00:13:46which he gets then drawn out the turn.
00:13:49They've then got runners in behind more than Haaland,
00:13:52and Reinders was that guy.
00:13:53And ultimately, that's helped them win the game.
00:13:55And whether it was Pep Guardiola or Pep Linders
00:13:57who decided to do that at half-time,
00:13:59it played a huge part in City getting the success.
00:14:02You can see the first half map of his position, Reinders,
00:14:05compared to the second half.
00:14:06He's a lot further forward.
00:14:08And as I said, they got far more joy when he did that.
00:14:11Wayne, Sean Dyche says that he couldn't find words,
00:14:14but he managed to find a few to discuss
00:14:16a couple of controversial, in his eyes, decisions.
00:14:18Let's have a little look at them through your eyes.
00:14:20Diaz's second yellow, let's call this one, potential.
00:14:24Yeah, I think it is a yellow card.
00:14:26I think if you look, he takes a step back across towards his own goal,
00:14:30he has a look, and then he clips the forward.
00:14:33So I think that is a second yellow, and he should have been sent off.
00:14:36And no-one likes to see players turn together, other players buck.
00:14:39I agree with that as well.
00:14:40I think it was the look and then they stepped across,
00:14:42and I think they were looking at the other way with him already being on a yellow.
00:14:45OK, and what about the winning goal?
00:14:48I actually think it's a foul on O'Reilly.
00:14:52Because I think if you look at Gibbs White here,
00:14:55and you'll see it again after this one,
00:14:57he grabs his arm, so he grabs O'Reilly's arm,
00:14:59and then he locks his leg into O'Reilly,
00:15:02and actually pulls O'Reilly down.
00:15:04So I've got no complaints.
00:15:06We see here, so he locks his arm in,
00:15:08and then just with his left leg,
00:15:10also he locks his left leg in,
00:15:12and then he pulls O'Reilly down to the ground.
00:15:14So I think it's a good goal.
00:15:15I think the goal should have stood.
00:15:16Dyson is going to look at the VAR report.
00:15:19Yeah, I'm happy to go with whatever the referee decides on that one,
00:15:22which means it's not a clear and obvious error either way.
00:15:25So whatever he gave, I'm happy to go with it.
00:15:28There was a little bit of noise ahead of this fixture,
00:15:30ahead of the Christmas break anyway,
00:15:31about the weigh-in that would happen
00:15:33and the City players being made to be sure
00:15:35that they didn't come back any heavier.
00:15:37And Erling Haaland there telling Donna Rummer
00:15:39that he can come back.
00:15:40You can eat it now, Donna.
00:15:42After he weighed in.
00:15:44And we saw Haaland's post as well about his weight coming back.
00:15:46Lean and mean.
00:15:47What about you two?
00:15:48Ever any worries or concerns?
00:15:50Did you get weighed in?
00:15:51I was all right on Boxing Day.
00:15:52Yeah, I come in a bit heavier times.
00:15:54But that was most of the season.
00:15:57Well, Wayne, we've had a little look in the archives
00:15:59and maybe that's a reflection on your Boxing Day goals scored.
00:16:03Eight out of four for you, Wayne.
00:16:05Oh, there you go. You did have too much turkey, then.
00:16:07Yeah, well, I've still got four goals.
00:16:09It's not too bad.
00:16:10I feel like that's no regrets.
00:16:11OK.
00:16:12So that win in the early cook-off put Manchester City
00:16:15top of the table ahead of Arsenal's game against Brighton.
00:16:18Steve Wilson was at the Emirates.
00:16:21Being top at Christmas has never yet been turned into a Premier League title by Arsenal.
00:16:26Another near miss would be very hard for them to stomach.
00:16:30All kinds of adversity for them too.
00:16:32Timber with a twinge in training.
00:16:34Calafiori injured in the warm-up.
00:16:36Miles Lewis-Skelly comes in at left-back.
00:16:38Declan Rice starts at right-back.
00:16:41Some better news for Brighton who have Dunk and Gomez returning from suspension
00:16:46and Van Hecker from injury.
00:16:47They go with a back three.
00:16:49Danny Welbeck is fit enough for the bench, but Karu Mitoma is ill.
00:16:55Lewis-Skelly.
00:16:56Awkward for Lewis-Dunk.
00:17:01Jokeres!
00:17:02That's a really good chance.
00:17:05It's a very awkward bounce, which went over the top of the Brighton skipper
00:17:10and fell kindly here for Jokeres.
00:17:13It's a bit of a tame attempt.
00:17:15Odegaard.
00:17:23Saka has done well to get himself inside the area
00:17:26and he's brought a good save from Verbruggen
00:17:28and reacted very quickly to the rebound.
00:17:31Great play by Bukayo Saka, blocked by Verbruggen.
00:17:36His second Christmas as Brighton boss.
00:17:38December has not been kind to him.
00:17:42Ruder dispossessed, little bit of room here.
00:17:45And Odegaard loves to have a bit of room.
00:17:49Bukayo Saka.
00:17:52That's high and well off target in the end from Saka.
00:17:55Found the space quite nicely, but nowhere near the finish.
00:17:59And it's a goal kick.
00:18:05Here is Saka.
00:18:10And Odegaard.
00:18:11Oh, it's a really good finish by Martin Odegaard.
00:18:17And the skipper scores his first goal of the season to put Arsenal in front.
00:18:23From their own goal kick, Brighton fall behind.
00:18:25The pressure from Incappier.
00:18:29Won the ball back.
00:18:31Odegaard has a little step back to find some space.
00:18:36And Verbruggen might be a bit disappointed that he didn't get across to his left-hand side to get a touch on this.
00:18:42But it's Arsenal 1, Brighton 0.
00:18:46And it's Martin Odegaard.
00:18:48There he is, Gabriel, on the bench, which is very good news for Arsenal to see.
00:18:53To his right-hand side is 16-year-old Marley Salmon, who was a late addition to the substitutes bench once Calafiore got injured in the warm-up.
00:19:02Oh, Rutte has made a really poor decision there.
00:19:06Here's Saka.
00:19:08And Brighton are lucky to get away with that.
00:19:11And they may not.
00:19:12Here's Trossard.
00:19:15Saka.
00:19:17Van Hecker, Marino.
00:19:19And the flick.
00:19:20Brilliant save by Verbruggen.
00:19:21Well, what a fabulous save here by Bart Verbruggen.
00:19:30Brilliant passage of play.
00:19:31Terrible decision by Rutte to let that ball drop.
00:19:36Trossard back in.
00:19:38Saka tried his luck.
00:19:39Van Hecker away from Jokeres.
00:19:41Marino.
00:19:43Brilliant little flick from Zubimendi.
00:19:45And a wonderful save by Verbruggen.
00:19:51Mikel Marino.
00:19:55And we've just gone into a minimum of just one added minute.
00:20:01Now Verbruggen's come.
00:20:03Oh, dear.
00:20:06Well, it's a tough job for Jokeres to score from there.
00:20:09Van Hecker is between him and the goal.
00:20:12The card is yellow, and that probably feels right out there.
00:20:16Verbruggen made a really poor decision to come for it, though.
00:20:19The video assistant referee Paul Tierney has had a look at that
00:20:24and decided that a yellow card is fair enough.
00:20:29But you would think it's pretty much on the cusp from Verbruggen.
00:20:35Brighton have made two changes at half-time.
00:20:39Brighton's formation, however, has stayed the same.
00:20:41Mikel Marino will receive this and send it on to Leandro Trossard.
00:20:49And Odegaard, big deflection.
00:20:52It's a good block that by Ayari.
00:20:56Arsenal corner.
00:20:58Dangerous from Odegaard.
00:21:00And Ayari with a very important flick on that.
00:21:09Rice, not a pace on that, I think it's an un-goal.
00:21:13Jorginho Rutte's got the final touch on that.
00:21:17It's 2-0 to Arsenal.
00:21:19But Declan Rice takes the congratulations for the speed and threat of the delivery.
00:21:28And Rutte flicks it over Verbruggen.
00:21:34And puts Arsenal two goals in front.
00:21:38Four of Arsenal's last six goals have been own goals.
00:21:43Here's Odegaard.
00:21:45Cariolo with Jokeres.
00:21:48Jokeres battered it into Verbruggen.
00:21:53He absolutely leathered this, Jokeres.
00:21:56But it's such close quarters to Bart Verbruggen.
00:22:00But it's smashed back off the keeper.
00:22:01Brighton won three consecutive Premier League games here at the Emirates against Arsenal between April 22 and May 23.
00:22:11They haven't won one since, home war away.
00:22:17Rutte on the half turn, Ayari through the crowd and off the post.
00:22:22And the follow-up is smashed in.
00:22:26Gomez makes it 2-1.
00:22:28Well, that's come out of nothing.
00:22:33Well, Brighton have barely ever threatened Arsenal in this game.
00:22:37Just past the hour mark, they're suddenly back in the game.
00:22:42Well held up by Rutte.
00:22:45Off the post.
00:22:46And the rebound in from Diego Gomez.
00:22:51Arsenal's rhythm and momentum very much halted by that Gomez goal.
00:22:56Lovely little flick, that's Minty!
00:22:57What a save that is by Davy Dreyer.
00:23:00Well, that looked like a goal all day long.
00:23:04It's a great hit by Minty, it's a fantastic stop by Davy Dreyer.
00:23:05Brighton's corner.
00:23:06Vytha!
00:23:07Vytha!
00:23:08Ooh!
00:23:09He's put it over the top of the crossbar.
00:23:10It's a real miss.
00:23:11This really is not comfortable at all for Arsenal now.
00:23:18Saka.
00:23:19Saka.
00:23:20Saka's crossed, Martinelli!
00:23:21Good night.
00:23:23Vytha!
00:23:24Oh!
00:23:25He's put it over the top of the crossbar.
00:23:27It's a real miss.
00:23:29This really is not comfortable at all for Arsenal now.
00:23:37Saka, Saka's crossed Martinelli, could have won it, but hasn't, good play by Bukayo Saka, Martinelli over the top, Arsenal still anxious.
00:23:58This is Jankouba Mente, this could be dangerous, the little clip ball, Cadiolu didn't hit it, Zubimendi got himself in front of Jorginho Rute, hands are raised from Arteta, David Raya clutches the ball, and the whistle goes, and Arsenal have the points, hard-earned points in the end,
00:24:24though that seemed highly unlikely until Diego Gomez gave Brighton a foothold in the game.
00:24:31I think we dominated, we controlled pretty much everything, should have scored more goals, should have been a bigger margin in the end, but that's the Premier League and that's football,
00:24:42you switch off for one second and they can punish you, so we got the win and we got the three points, but obviously we would have liked it to be a little bit less stressful towards the end.
00:24:53The small margins, they make the difference and we have to understand how important it is, we have to understand which role do we have as individuals when we have to defend set pieces when we build up.
00:25:04I think we proved it in the second half, but it's about doing it for 90 minutes, I think that's the key thing.
00:25:10You lose Calafiore in the warm-up, Jorginho Rute's got something in training, so players are going to have to be up for doing things that maybe don't come completely naturally to them.
00:25:20You have to be ready because it's now, so in the warm-up something, and you have to be in the right mental space.
00:25:26That's what I love about the team, that with everything that we're going through, which has been a lot, the way we react to that, the way we want to fulfil that role and make another step is brilliant to watch.
00:25:39Arsenal looked to be cruising in the first half, Alan, but it did get a lot more nervy for them in the second half. What changed?
00:25:45Yeah, absolutely. Well, what changed, Gabby, is that Arsenal, particularly in wide areas, caused Brighton so many problems because they were left isolated, the two wing-backs, full-backs, and more often than not, they lost out on those battles.
00:26:01Saka was left so many times 1v1, and yes, for the first half, this was a constant. He went back, whoever was there, and they went past them, and has caused them all sorts of problems.
00:26:14And they work it really, really well, and as I said, yep, they absolutely dominated Brighton and should have scored more goals, but they didn't. Similar sort of thing there.
00:26:23He works it to where he wants it, but the finish isn't very good. This is the goal. They force Brighton into what Arsenal want them to do, and they get the press spot on really, really well.
00:26:34They work it well, and then all of a sudden, similar thing again. Dumped, not sure whether to go tight or to drop off. He doesn't really do either.
00:26:41And again, Saka's left 1v1, but he picks his head up this time and finds Odegaard, who's in loads of space, and finishes it off really, really well.
00:26:49It wasn't just down the right-hand side. It was also down the left-hand side as well with Trossard.
00:26:54I mean, he must carry this ball, I don't know, 70 yards or so up the field and puts Arsenal into a really, really good position to get to the byline.
00:27:04But that was a constant. Either side, as I said, causing them all sorts of problems.
00:27:08Then all of a sudden at half-time, Brighton change. They bring Weefer on, they bring Minta on, and they switch Cadioglu to the other side.
00:27:16And I know Arsenal go 2-0 up early in the second half, but to their credit, Brighton, this is what they did really, really well.
00:27:23So instead of Arsenal causing them problems, all of a sudden they, now that's their first effort on target, and then all of a sudden they're asking questions now.
00:27:32And it really did get nervy for Arsenal. It shouldn't have with the pressure they had or they tried to put on in that first half.
00:27:39This is the goal here. They work it really, really well. Hit the post. Gomez is there to stick it away.
00:27:44And you're about to see one of, if not, the save of the season. This is an unbelievable save. They work it again so well, but look, there you go.
00:27:53It's those two down that right-hand side again. Little give, little go in behind. Wow. That's all you can see.
00:27:59You can see Herzl and his reaction on the touchline. Unbelievable save that is. It really is magnificent.
00:28:06So what could have been an easier afternoon, if Arsenal had kept that up in the first half, it turned into a really difficult afternoon.
00:28:13But they got the three points, which is the most important thing.
00:28:16Wayne, last week we had two goalkeepers on Match of the Day. They'd have probably spent four minutes analysing that, waxing lyrical.
00:28:21As a centre-forward, give us your appraisal, of that say.
00:28:24Yeah, I think it was a good hype for the keeper. No, but in all fairness, it was an absolutely incredible save.
00:28:31And the speed he has to get across the goal, and it's moments like that which win your league titles.
00:28:36And Davarela has many of them moments throughout the season.
00:28:39Yeah, and it was endorsed by his manager, Mikel Arteta.
00:28:42So, to the late game. Aston Villa had won their last ten matches in all competitions,
00:28:47and had the chance to move ten points clear of Chelsea, who began the day just one place below them in fourth.
00:28:53Mark Scott was at Stamford Bridge.
00:28:56Ten in a row is Villa's best winning run as a top division side in 111 years.
00:29:02And it sparked debate about whether they're in the title race.
00:29:06That was a conversation Chelsea were part of a few weeks ago, but one within five has seen them leave the chat.
00:29:13Chelsea bring Badia Schiel and Fernandes in for Fafana and Gusto.
00:29:17Guendia replaces Inanna for Villa, while Marlins prefer to Watkins up top.
00:29:22Morgan Rodgers' individual form is just as impressive as Villa's.
00:29:26He's scored six goals in as many Premier League games.
00:29:30Caicedo quickly onto Cole Palmer.
00:29:37And it's still Cole Palmer.
00:29:39Now Garnaccio.
00:29:40Room here for Fernandes!
00:29:42Who cannot believe he hasn't hit the target.
00:29:45Tama at the heart of it.
00:29:48Garnaccio then teed up Enzo Fernandes, who has scored in all of his last three games against Villa.
00:29:55Should have been four in a row.
00:29:59Enzo Marescu is serving a touchline ban today.
00:30:01He says he was also banned from the kitchen on Christmas Day.
00:30:05As his mum was staying with them and when she's there no one else is allowed in.
00:30:10Pedro Neto.
00:30:14Inside of Martsen and towards Jao Pedro.
00:30:17Martinez did enough to keep him out.
00:30:19Jao Pedro keeps it alive.
00:30:21Fonts are clear.
00:30:23Buendia.
00:30:24Dangerous.
00:30:25Telemans helps him out.
00:30:26Or does he?
00:30:28Jao Pedro nicked it off him but couldn't keep it in.
00:30:31Got clear of the Villa defence but couldn't get the ball clear of Emi Martinez.
00:30:38It's been some final quarter from Unai Emery's side at the end of September.
00:30:42Villa were third from bottom.
00:30:44They went into Christmas just three points off the top.
00:30:47Cucurera on the overlap.
00:30:50And that's a corner off Mati Cash.
00:30:53First corner of the match.
00:30:56So Rhys James to take this corner for Chelsea.
00:31:02With ten minutes to go until the break.
00:31:05Tricky one to defend.
00:31:07And Villa haven't defended it.
00:31:09And Chelsea have the lead.
00:31:11Well no one seems to know who to congratulate.
00:31:19So Rhys James happy to take the acclaim.
00:31:23Such an awkward one to try and keep out this from Rhys James.
00:31:29Popped into a perfect area from a Chelsea point of view.
00:31:33And Villa simply couldn't scramble it away.
00:31:37It'll be Jao Pedro's goal.
00:31:39Not that he knew too much about it.
00:31:42Chelsea won.
00:31:44Aston Villa nil.
00:31:46Jao Pedro scores in back-to-back Premier League games for the Blues.
00:31:52Villa have won the most points from losing positions in the Premier League so far this season.
00:32:00They need another turnaround here this evening.
00:32:04Buendia quite into the path of Camara.
00:32:09Now it's Enzo Fernandes.
00:32:11Alejandro Garnaccio.
00:32:12Leto waiting and nearly getting there.
00:32:16And Chelsea actually feel that they've got a case for a penalty here.
00:32:23It's in a natural position for his actions is the VAR verdict.
00:32:28Palmer.
00:32:31Michel Petro.
00:32:38Cole Palmer.
00:32:39Lovely ball, surely!
00:32:41A goal-saving intervention from John McGinn.
00:32:45To prevent Chelsea doubling their lead.
00:32:48Such an inviting delivery.
00:32:50And it was a tap-in for Garnaccio until the Villa skipper stepped in.
00:32:56Chelsea very much in charge but only 1-0 up.
00:33:00Neto.
00:33:06Buffeted by Tiedemans.
00:33:07There's no foul.
00:33:08Chelsea have got the ball anyway.
00:33:09Oh!
00:33:10Rhys James!
00:33:11Forces a fine save, Garnaccio!
00:33:14Rhys James here, I think certainly was going for goal.
00:33:18And credit to the Villa keeper for recovering and then clawing away to safety.
00:33:24His side have been disappointing so far and Unai Emery is making a triple change.
00:33:29Sancho, Inanna and Watkins on with Marlon McGinn and Buendia taken off.
00:33:35Garnaccio galloping up there.
00:33:38He's found Enzo Fernandez, lovely touch, our Pedro!
00:33:44Not to where Cole Palmer was actually waiting.
00:33:47And Villa with the chance to hit on the counter.
00:33:51And it's a big chance as well.
00:33:53Watkins, Kamara's up there.
00:33:55And Watkins threw him for Kamara!
00:33:57Great work, Sanchez!
00:33:59Nothing to do up until now for Robert Sanchez.
00:34:04But he was out quickly and he was brave at the feet of Kamara to block the route to goal.
00:34:10And keep Chelsea in front by a goal.
00:34:14Picked up by Inanna.
00:34:16Chelsea had just looked a bit ropey in the last few minutes.
00:34:19Rodgers, great ball, Watkins!
00:34:211-1!
00:34:22It's Oli Watkins again at Stamford Bridge!
00:34:26He's now scored in three of his last four league games here.
00:34:32And our Villa about to come from behind to win again.
00:34:37They've woken up in the last five or ten minutes or so.
00:34:42And now they're back on terms.
00:34:44It's really sloppy from Chelsea.
00:34:47But it's so switched on from Oli Watkins.
00:34:51Great first touch.
00:34:54And then a bit of fortune when the second touch came back off him and off the post and in.
00:35:02It's Chelsea 1, Villa 1, Watkins.
00:35:05Three minutes after coming on has levelled it up.
00:35:10Kamara.
00:35:14Sancho.
00:35:17Great stop by Jadon Sancho.
00:35:19Eating up the turf now and finding Morgan Rodgers.
00:35:22Look at the Claritin blue up there.
00:35:24It's Marcsen!
00:35:27Kept at bay by Sanchez.
00:35:30Villa all over Chelsea from out of nowhere.
00:35:35Look at those Villa fans.
00:35:37They believe...
00:35:41Watkins.
00:35:44It's a bit of a shabby pass but now he's chasing one over the top himself.
00:35:47Watkins could be in here.
00:35:49Caicedo does enough, does he?
00:35:51Watkins!
00:35:52Sanchez had to react smartly to prevent Oli Watkins getting a second goal.
00:35:57Simple ball over the top but Watkins made the most of it.
00:36:03Worked great for the first hour but since that triple change Villa have been on top.
00:36:09Bogart.
00:36:10Well that's come through for Watkins.
00:36:12It's Oli Watkins up against Badia Shiel.
00:36:15Still Watkins.
00:36:16Oh!
00:36:17And it's a corner.
00:36:18There goes Watkins!
00:36:19Oh!
00:36:20And it's a corner.
00:36:21There goes Watkins!
00:36:22There goes Watkins!
00:36:23Oh!
00:36:24And it's a corner.
00:36:25There goes Watkins!
00:36:27And there goes Watkins!
00:36:28Villa have done it again!
00:36:29Oli Watkins sends the away end at the bridge into delirium.
00:36:32Villa have done it again
00:36:40Ollie Watkins
00:36:42sends the away end
00:36:44at the bridge
00:36:45into delirium
00:36:47and puts Villa on course
00:36:49for an 11th
00:36:52straight win
00:36:53some head of this
00:36:55from Watkins
00:36:56up so well
00:36:59and angled perfectly
00:37:01into the corner
00:37:02talk about
00:37:05an impact sub
00:37:06Ollie Watkins
00:37:08at the double
00:37:09to turn the game
00:37:11on its head
00:37:12and have Villa heading
00:37:14for yet another victory
00:37:16but it's Ollie Watkins
00:37:19whose name is
00:37:20hitting the headlines
00:37:21for Villa this evening
00:37:23rather than Morgan Rogers
00:37:25a belated
00:37:26Christmas gift for him
00:37:29and what a time
00:37:30to be a Villa fan
00:37:32Villa's incredible victory march
00:37:37goes on
00:37:38it's now a joint club record
00:37:4211 wins in a row
00:37:44and another sign
00:37:47that they surely
00:37:49have to be
00:37:50in the title race conversation
00:37:53Chelsea won
00:37:55to come on
00:37:58and get the two goals
00:38:00to win
00:38:00is
00:38:00yeah it's an amazing feeling
00:38:02and
00:38:03obviously we're doing
00:38:04Umbriel in the league
00:38:06yeah we just keep
00:38:09winning
00:38:09and I don't think we look like
00:38:12slowing down either
00:38:13he was so so focused
00:38:15keeping the game plan
00:38:16like we planned
00:38:17and discipline
00:38:18doing it
00:38:19and doing his task
00:38:21he's normally
00:38:23getting his numbers
00:38:25and today scoring goal
00:38:26of course fantastic
00:38:27I think for one hour
00:38:29we dominated the game
00:38:30we were very good
00:38:31until the goal
00:38:32we conceded
00:38:33unfortunately after that
00:38:34the dynamic of the game
00:38:36changed a little bit
00:38:36but I think
00:38:37by the time they scored
00:38:39the 1-1
00:38:39we should have scored
00:38:412-3 more
00:38:41you have to see yourself
00:38:43as a contender
00:38:43when you look at the table
00:38:44right now
00:38:45not
00:38:4638 matches
00:38:47no no no
00:38:48he's finishing tomorrow
00:38:49the next match against
00:38:51Arsenal is finishing the league
00:38:52no
00:38:53still another
00:38:5420 matches to play
00:38:55we'll talk about a game
00:38:58of two halves
00:38:59it was actually more of a game
00:39:00of one particular
00:39:01half an hour
00:39:02for Aston Villa
00:39:02once Unai Emery
00:39:03had made his changes
00:39:04yeah it was
00:39:06and I thought the three lads
00:39:07who come on
00:39:08were excellent
00:39:08and really made a big difference
00:39:10to this Aston Villa team
00:39:11and
00:39:12Unai was a big presence
00:39:14when he came on
00:39:14in the middle of the pitch
00:39:15winning the ball back
00:39:16and then that
00:39:16freed up the likes of
00:39:18Morgan Rodgers
00:39:19and Ollie Watkins
00:39:20but then this pass
00:39:21is the weight on that pass
00:39:22the detail on that pass
00:39:23is fantastic
00:39:24and Ollie Watkins
00:39:25has a good first touch
00:39:26he gets a little bit of luck
00:39:28with the finish
00:39:29but he put himself
00:39:30in the right position
00:39:31and he gets his first goal
00:39:33of the game
00:39:34but
00:39:34Jadon Sancho
00:39:35come into this as well
00:39:36and I thought
00:39:36we haven't seen much of him
00:39:38this season
00:39:39but I thought he was excellent
00:39:40when he came on
00:39:41and getting the ball
00:39:42driving with the ball
00:39:43and committing
00:39:44to Chelsea defenders
00:39:45and then
00:39:46they had runners off that
00:39:47they had Morgan Rodgers
00:39:48making runs in behind
00:39:49and then this has got to get squared
00:39:50this gets squared across the goal
00:39:52then they get a tap in
00:39:53and Ollie Watkins here
00:39:54doing what he does best
00:39:56he's making runs in behind
00:39:57and keeping the Chelsea players
00:39:59on their toes
00:39:59and again
00:40:00a little bit of luck
00:40:01but gets a shot off
00:40:02and then
00:40:03Onana again
00:40:04winning the ball back
00:40:05tackling
00:40:05aggressive
00:40:06and then Sancho
00:40:07making the run
00:40:08in off
00:40:09the back of the defenders
00:40:10and again
00:40:11he gets another shot off
00:40:13and then Ollie Watkins
00:40:14a fantastic
00:40:15had a great corner
00:40:16into the penalty box
00:40:17and a wonderful
00:40:18letter to go and win the game
00:40:19so Aston Villa
00:40:20were excellent
00:40:21especially that last 30 minutes
00:40:22On Ollie Watkins
00:40:24no player wants to
00:40:25start a match on the bench
00:40:26but does he give his manager
00:40:27Unai Emery
00:40:28any kind of dilemma
00:40:29ahead of Arsenal
00:40:30when he makes that kind of impact
00:40:31He does
00:40:32and I think we need to see
00:40:33more from him
00:40:34this season
00:40:34because he has started games
00:40:35and he hasn't scored goals
00:40:37but he's on the bench today
00:40:38and he's answered as manager
00:40:40in the right way
00:40:41he's scored two goals
00:40:42and won Aston Villa
00:40:42the game
00:40:43I guess he'll start
00:40:43in the next game
00:40:44As for Chelsea
00:40:46Alan
00:40:46a familiar feeling
00:40:47for their fans today
00:40:48Yeah
00:40:49that's the
00:40:49fourth time at home
00:40:51they've been 1-0 up
00:40:52and lost the game
00:40:53so that has to change
00:40:55if they've got any ambition
00:40:56of getting in the top four
00:40:57OK
00:40:58well
00:40:59it was eight games
00:41:00without a win
00:41:01for Bournemouth
00:41:02who'd never beaten
00:41:03today's opponents
00:41:04Brentford
00:41:04in the Premier League
00:41:05Robin Cowan
00:41:06was at the GTech
00:41:06Community Stadium
00:41:07It's been 20 years
00:41:10since Bournemouth
00:41:11beat Brentford
00:41:12away from home
00:41:12so not the fixture
00:41:13Andoni Iriola
00:41:14would have chosen
00:41:15to end their recent
00:41:16poor spell
00:41:17The Bees have already
00:41:18triumphed over the Cherries
00:41:19this term
00:41:20in the EFL Cup
00:41:21In August
00:41:21Igor Thiago
00:41:22scored at the Vitality
00:41:23that night
00:41:24He's currently on his
00:41:25longest run
00:41:26without a goal
00:41:26this season
00:41:27He's failed to net
00:41:28in his last four appearances
00:41:29As well as their
00:41:31long winless streak
00:41:32Bournemouth are contemplating
00:41:33life without
00:41:33their most influential player
00:41:35Antoine Semenyu
00:41:36has been involved
00:41:37in 11 of their
00:41:3726 Premier League
00:41:39goals this season
00:41:39and speculation
00:41:40is rife
00:41:41that he'll leave
00:41:42during the January
00:41:42transfer window
00:41:43with Man City
00:41:44the favourites
00:41:45to trigger
00:41:45a reported
00:41:46£65 million
00:41:47release clause
00:41:49Thiago
00:41:54dropping deep to receive
00:41:57showing really good
00:41:58strength
00:41:59plays in
00:42:02Sharda
00:42:02too strong
00:42:04for Diakite
00:42:05Sharda
00:42:06too strong for Diakite
00:42:14but also had the
00:42:29composure
00:42:29to finish
00:42:31Sharda
00:42:33Sharda
00:42:33has his
00:42:34fourth of the
00:42:34season
00:42:35Brentford
00:42:37have the lead
00:42:38again
00:42:44another Bournemouth move
00:42:46comes to a conclusion
00:42:48Jarmaluk
00:42:49Jensen
00:42:51try to pick out
00:42:53Igor Thiago
00:42:54it's Sharda
00:42:55the block
00:42:56Sharda again
00:42:57and gathered
00:42:58by Petrovic
00:42:59well Brentford
00:43:01really could be
00:43:02three up here
00:43:02playing around
00:43:05Bournemouth at will
00:43:06and that clearance
00:43:07from Sinesi
00:43:08straight to Sharda
00:43:10he got a couple
00:43:10of goes at it
00:43:12and couldn't beat
00:43:13Petrovic
00:43:14Kelleher
00:43:17getting there
00:43:17just in the nick
00:43:18of time
00:43:19fired upfield
00:43:24and that's turned
00:43:24into a really good
00:43:25pass for Igor
00:43:26Thiago
00:43:27Thiago
00:43:28oh it's in
00:43:31well not sure
00:43:36if that will go
00:43:37down as his goal
00:43:38but the scoreline
00:43:40now reflects
00:43:41Brentford's dominance
00:43:42and this goal
00:43:44reflects Bournemouth's
00:43:46state at the moment
00:43:48it was a tight angle
00:43:51the stricken
00:43:53Bournemouth goalkeeper
00:43:54who could do
00:43:54absolutely nothing
00:43:55about that
00:43:56and I believe
00:43:58that will go down
00:43:59as an own goal
00:44:00but
00:44:00all thanks to
00:44:02Thiago's
00:44:04determination
00:44:04five minutes
00:44:06before the break
00:44:07Brentford's lead
00:44:09by two goals
00:44:10to nil
00:44:10Scott
00:44:14trying to get
00:44:15around Henry
00:44:16foul
00:44:19on Alex Scott
00:44:20and Sharda
00:44:21with the
00:44:32one by Collins
00:44:34and the
00:44:34against the touch
00:44:35was heavy
00:44:37and allowed
00:44:38Jimenez to get in
00:44:39although again
00:44:40Brentford do their
00:44:41defensive work
00:44:42and they have a
00:44:44three on two
00:44:45Sharda making
00:44:46good ground
00:44:47Thiago picks
00:44:49it up
00:44:50Sharda
00:44:51devastating
00:44:56from one end
00:45:04to the other
00:45:04Bournemouth are
00:45:06punished
00:45:07with ruthless
00:45:10efficiency
00:45:11by Brentford
00:45:12it looked like the
00:45:14move had broken
00:45:14down here
00:45:15Jimenez got a
00:45:16foot in
00:45:16Thiago involved
00:45:18once again
00:45:19and Sharda
00:45:22has his second
00:45:23and that should be
00:45:27the game for
00:45:27Brentford
00:45:28Alex Scott
00:45:33allowed to
00:45:35progress so far
00:45:36but then it's
00:45:37the red and
00:45:38white wall
00:45:39in front of
00:45:40them
00:45:40hard to
00:45:42break down
00:45:43Brooks delivers
00:45:44though
00:45:44just wide
00:45:46Eva Nielsen
00:45:48with the
00:45:48efforts
00:45:49and a
00:45:49corner has
00:45:49been given
00:45:50so congested
00:45:52in that
00:45:52penalty area
00:45:53oh it's
00:46:00off the
00:46:01post
00:46:01it just
00:46:04won't
00:46:04happen
00:46:05for
00:46:05Bournemouth
00:46:05whipped
00:46:07in by
00:46:08Brooks
00:46:08and
00:46:09Justin
00:46:10Cliver
00:46:10denied
00:46:11Jimenez
00:46:19are we
00:46:21still going
00:46:22Semenyo
00:46:23Bournemouth have
00:46:27one back
00:46:28he's barely
00:46:30had a kick
00:46:31they've
00:46:32marshalled him
00:46:33so well
00:46:34through the
00:46:34entirety of
00:46:35this game
00:46:36Antoine Semenyo
00:46:36but that is
00:46:37his quality
00:46:38back heel
00:46:40from Semenyo
00:46:42who hasn't
00:46:43been disheartened
00:46:43by the fact
00:46:44that he's
00:46:45been pretty
00:46:46much marked
00:46:47out of the
00:46:47game
00:46:47Aya down
00:46:52the line
00:46:53for Damnsgaard
00:46:54releases just
00:46:59in time to
00:46:59find Yarmaluk
00:47:00Damnsgaard
00:47:02Janelton a bit
00:47:03of space
00:47:04here
00:47:04no one
00:47:06closing him
00:47:06down
00:47:06the deflection
00:47:07off the
00:47:08post
00:47:08Keane
00:47:10Lewis
00:47:11Potter
00:47:11let's have
00:47:14a look
00:47:14at this
00:47:14he's onside
00:47:17it was a
00:47:18really good
00:47:19save in the
00:47:19first instance
00:47:20what a miss
00:47:21from Keane
00:47:22Lewis
00:47:22Potter
00:47:22Damnsgaard
00:47:36Damnsgaard
00:47:37he's
00:47:39Henderson
00:47:39back in for
00:47:42Damnsgaard
00:47:42Shada
00:47:43game
00:47:47set
00:47:47match
00:47:48and a
00:47:49hat-trick
00:47:50for Kevin
00:47:51Shada
00:47:51he doubles
00:47:53his goal
00:47:54tally for
00:47:55the season
00:47:55in one
00:47:56afternoon
00:47:57as Bournemouth
00:47:59pushed forward
00:48:00they were
00:48:01light
00:48:02Shada
00:48:04on the
00:48:05move
00:48:05as Damnsgaard
00:48:07on the
00:48:07stretch
00:48:08found him
00:48:08a memorable
00:48:10evening for
00:48:11Kevin Shada
00:48:11and for
00:48:12Brentford
00:48:13an impressive
00:48:15victory for
00:48:16the Bees
00:48:16I accept
00:48:19you can
00:48:19lose games
00:48:20today is a
00:48:20very difficult
00:48:21game but
00:48:21if we are
00:48:22playing in the
00:48:22second half
00:48:22perfect
00:48:23we take it
00:48:24sometimes you
00:48:24have to
00:48:25accept but
00:48:25we have to
00:48:27look at
00:48:27ourselves
00:48:27why we
00:48:28were 45
00:48:29minutes late
00:48:30today to
00:48:31start the
00:48:32game
00:48:32in the
00:48:32Premier League
00:48:33we need
00:48:33100%
00:48:34from everyone
00:48:35and today
00:48:36was not like
00:48:37this in the
00:48:37beginning
00:48:37Do you feel
00:48:38like you're
00:48:39proving some
00:48:40doubters wrong
00:48:40is that
00:48:41motivation for
00:48:42you or do
00:48:43you find that
00:48:43from somewhere
00:48:44else
00:48:44yeah I
00:48:45don't
00:48:46really feel
00:48:47people doubt
00:48:49me as a
00:48:50reason to
00:48:50be motivated
00:48:51to be honest
00:48:51it's not the
00:48:53reason I've
00:48:53got to this
00:48:54stage in
00:48:54my life
00:48:56so now
00:48:57I just
00:48:58focus on
00:48:58what I can
00:48:59control
00:48:59what we can
00:49:00do here
00:49:00on a
00:49:01day-to-day
00:49:01basis
00:49:01week-to-week
00:49:02basis
00:49:02keep growing
00:49:02the team
00:49:03keep growing
00:49:04the football
00:49:04club
00:49:05and see
00:49:06where we
00:49:06go
00:49:06there
00:49:06the first
00:49:07one
00:49:08was like
00:49:09yeah I
00:49:09just tripped
00:49:10it
00:49:10the second
00:49:12one was
00:49:12so quick
00:49:13I didn't
00:49:14I didn't
00:49:15even think
00:49:15I just
00:49:16tried to
00:49:16hit it
00:49:16and then
00:49:17yeah
00:49:17the header
00:49:18I saw
00:49:19Dumsey
00:49:19and thought
00:49:20like yeah
00:49:20please cross
00:49:21it he did
00:49:21and I just
00:49:23hit it in
00:49:23a day to
00:49:25cherish
00:49:25for Sharder
00:49:26there
00:49:26he didn't
00:49:28necessarily
00:49:28sound like
00:49:29it was
00:49:29though
00:49:30not a load
00:49:30of enthusiasm
00:49:31can you do
00:49:31with any more
00:49:32for us
00:49:33absolutely
00:49:33outstanding
00:49:34as were
00:49:34Brentford
00:49:35I mean
00:49:36they were
00:49:36direct
00:49:37at times
00:49:38and when I
00:49:39say direct
00:49:39I don't mean
00:49:40there was a load
00:49:40of long balls
00:49:41we know
00:49:41Bournemouth
00:49:42liked to press
00:49:42so the way
00:49:43to beat
00:49:44that press
00:49:44is on the
00:49:45odd occasion
00:49:45go long
00:49:47particularly when
00:49:47you've got
00:49:47someone of the
00:49:48strength of
00:49:49Thiago
00:49:49and the pace
00:49:50of Sharder
00:49:51that's prepared
00:49:51to run in
00:49:52behind there
00:49:53you can see
00:49:53the both of them
00:49:53working together
00:49:54brilliant first
00:49:55touch and a
00:49:56great turn
00:49:56not a bad
00:49:58ball in behind
00:49:59either
00:49:59and that's
00:50:01them on the
00:50:01way
00:50:02so that's okay
00:50:02that might be
00:50:03being direct
00:50:04with long ball
00:50:05but I mean
00:50:05with speed
00:50:06and with pace
00:50:07and with everything
00:50:08else that you
00:50:08have to do
00:50:09to beat a team
00:50:10that wants to
00:50:10press
00:50:11there's no
00:50:11messing around
00:50:12it's get it
00:50:13in behind
00:50:13as I said
00:50:14when you've got
00:50:15the willing
00:50:15runners like
00:50:16that
00:50:16and Thiago
00:50:16is really
00:50:17unlucky here
00:50:18I mean
00:50:18it's given
00:50:18as a known
00:50:19goal
00:50:20but he sort
00:50:20of creates
00:50:21all of that
00:50:21it's him
00:50:22that helps
00:50:22put it
00:50:23in the
00:50:23back of the
00:50:24net
00:50:24just look
00:50:25where those
00:50:25two start
00:50:26and then have
00:50:27a look at
00:50:27the five of
00:50:28them when
00:50:28they finish
00:50:29because this
00:50:29is what I
00:50:30mean about
00:50:30the pace
00:50:31and the
00:50:31determination
00:50:32to get
00:50:32forward
00:50:33quickly
00:50:33you can see
00:50:35those two
00:50:35but there's
00:50:36five of them
00:50:37end up in
00:50:37Bournemouth
00:50:38box here
00:50:38ready to put
00:50:39the ball
00:50:40in the
00:50:40back of the
00:50:40net
00:50:40great ball
00:50:42in and a
00:50:42really clever
00:50:43finish
00:50:43once again
00:50:45Henderson
00:50:45came on
00:50:46running
00:50:46in behind
00:50:47again
00:50:47the ball
00:50:48in behind
00:50:48but they
00:50:49just can't
00:50:50do anything
00:50:50about it
00:50:51Bournemouth
00:50:51because they

00:51:09they have
00:51:09had some
00:51:10incredible
00:51:11form of
00:51:12late
00:51:12well actually
00:51:13through the
00:51:13whole season
00:51:13really
00:51:14and two points
00:51:15better off
00:51:16Alan
00:51:16than they were
00:51:17this stage
00:51:18last season
00:51:19particularly
00:51:19who they lost
00:51:22in the summer
00:51:23you know
00:51:24so to go
00:51:25and to be
00:51:25better
00:51:26and play some
00:51:27of the football
00:51:27that they're playing
00:51:28and their goals
00:51:28so impressive
00:51:29yeah
00:51:30okay
00:51:30thank you very much
00:51:31well Liverpool
00:51:32faced Wolves
00:51:33the first time
00:51:34since the death
00:51:35of Diogo Jota
00:51:36who of course
00:51:37represented both
00:51:38clubs with
00:51:38distinction
00:51:39Jota's family
00:51:40were at Anfield
00:51:41with two of his
00:51:42children among
00:51:43the mascots
00:51:43your commentator
00:51:44Guy Mowbrie
00:51:45Diogo Jota's two sons
00:51:48Dennis and Duarte
00:51:50accompany Virgil van Dijk
00:51:52out onto the Anfield turf
00:51:54on which their father
00:51:55used to shine
00:51:56Wolves fans need no
00:51:59reminding of his talents
00:52:00either
00:52:00in a three year stay
00:52:01with them
00:52:02he more than helped
00:52:03them to promotion
00:52:04and then two top half
00:52:06Premier League finishers
00:52:07for Liverpool
00:52:08two changes
00:52:09Jeremy Frimpong
00:52:10comes in for
00:52:10Conor Bradley
00:52:11and Federico Chiesa
00:52:13replaces the suspended
00:52:14Dominic Savaslai
00:52:15the Wolves team
00:52:17four changes
00:52:18Tolu Arakadari
00:52:19takes over
00:52:20from out of form
00:52:20Jürgen Strand-Larsen
00:52:22and there's a first
00:52:23start in the team
00:52:24for 18 year old
00:52:25Matthias Mane
00:52:26Witz
00:52:31Hekateke
00:52:34brilliantly found
00:52:36locked to do
00:52:37he nearly did it
00:52:39Jose Sarr
00:52:42was grasping thin air
00:52:44beautifully weighted
00:52:46pass to him
00:52:47and a really clever
00:52:48attempt to craft
00:52:49the finish
00:52:50in between the two
00:52:51past the goalkeeper
00:52:53inches away
00:52:54Wolves
00:52:56on their longest
00:52:57losing run
00:52:58in their
00:52:58illustrious history
00:53:0011 in a row
00:53:0110 of those
00:53:02in the Premier League
00:53:03this is a
00:53:04worry for Wolves
00:53:05Chiesa has
00:53:07caught Tolu
00:53:08Arakadari
00:53:09a sore one
00:53:11but in the view
00:53:12of the officials
00:53:12not a sinister one
00:53:14Maslott certainly
00:53:15not underestimating
00:53:16his team's opponents
00:53:17today
00:53:18saying about Wolves
00:53:19they've come closer
00:53:20and closer to results
00:53:21and there's a challenge
00:53:23to every Premier League game
00:53:24Mane
00:53:27good attempt
00:53:29well saved by Alisson
00:53:30the teenager
00:53:32sparks into life
00:53:34in the Premier League
00:53:35for the first time
00:53:35wouldn't that be a thing
00:53:37Mane scoring at Anfield
00:53:39against Liverpool
00:53:40and Edwards
00:53:41who is one of those
00:53:43unlucky or lucky
00:53:44people who celebrates
00:53:45a Christmas Day
00:53:46birthday
00:53:46just turned 43
00:53:48and it's Wolves fans
00:53:52on 90 minutes
00:53:53who start with the
00:53:54big booming chant
00:53:55of Diogo
00:53:56and then the clock
00:54:00ticks around to 20
00:54:01Liverpool fans
00:54:03will serenade
00:54:04their former star
00:54:04as well
00:54:05well this is quite
00:54:07something
00:54:08this really is
00:54:09the whole of the ground
00:54:10standing
00:54:11and chanting
00:54:12and singing
00:54:13about the late
00:54:14Diogo Jota
00:54:15I think he'll be happy-ish
00:54:20with the way things are going
00:54:21Liverpool kept out
00:54:23that's the thing
00:54:24that will please him most
00:54:26and Matthias Mane
00:54:28has had one shot
00:54:29on target
00:54:29at the other end
00:54:30and he's in business
00:54:31again here
00:54:32and doing really well
00:54:35that one's not on target
00:54:36but
00:54:37how about this young man's
00:54:38confidence
00:54:39he's the bright wolves
00:54:41light today
00:54:42certainly his eighth
00:54:44senior game
00:54:44his first from the start
00:54:46they could be forgiven
00:54:48for giving up
00:54:49on this season
00:54:50but a full compliment
00:54:51has come to Anfield
00:54:52today and I'm sure
00:54:53they'll carry on
00:54:54travelling everywhere
00:54:55for the whole of the
00:54:56rest of the season
00:54:57here's a found by Van Dijk
00:55:03Frimpong
00:55:05drifts away from
00:55:07Gio Gomez
00:55:08and takes on Hugo Bueno
00:55:09and pulls it back
00:55:10for Gravenberg
00:55:11Liverpool lead
00:55:13double dodge
00:55:17Frimpong's assist
00:55:19for Gravenberg's finish
00:55:21what a run this is
00:55:24from Jeremy Frimpong
00:55:25mind you the finish
00:55:26isn't bad is it
00:55:27eye of a needle job
00:55:29from Gravenberg
00:55:30no chance for
00:55:31Jose Sarr
00:55:32and what started as
00:55:34slim chance
00:55:35has become even
00:55:36slimmer chance for Wolves
00:55:37Nekatike
00:55:41Nekatike
00:55:45through to Florian
00:55:46Virts
00:55:47there's the moment
00:55:52he's been waiting for
00:55:53Florian Virts
00:55:56his first for the club
00:55:57is back
00:55:58and the Anfield crowd
00:56:00appreciates
00:56:01the graph
00:56:03he's had to put in
00:56:04to acclimatise
00:56:06the Premier League
00:56:06to become
00:56:07a player
00:56:08worthy of wearing
00:56:09that Liverpool
00:56:10number seven shirt
00:56:11he's getting there
00:56:13big boots to follow
00:56:15and that first goal
00:56:16won't help
00:56:17Mane
00:56:20Arakadare
00:56:22Mane
00:56:23feels away
00:56:24wanting the return
00:56:24there was no way
00:56:25past Van Dijk
00:56:26but a Wolves corner
00:56:27and they're
00:56:28showing signs of intent
00:56:29at the start of the second half
00:56:31they did at the start
00:56:31of the first as well
00:56:32one goal at Anfield
00:56:34might
00:56:35turn the tide
00:56:36one goal delivers
00:56:38Alisson can't get through
00:56:40makes the first save
00:56:41but the follow-up
00:56:42is put in
00:56:43by Santiago Bueno
00:56:44Wolves have one
00:56:49it all started because
00:56:52the corner was delivered
00:56:53so well that Alisson felt
00:56:54he couldn't go and get it
00:56:56nicely saved at first
00:56:58but patted down
00:57:00straight to the feet
00:57:01of Santiago Bueno
00:57:02and Bueno scores for Wolves
00:57:05for only the second time
00:57:06to make it Liverpool 2
00:57:08Wolves 1
00:57:09the Reds are
00:57:11just a little bit rattled
00:57:13Frimpong
00:57:15Lugo Bueno has one go
00:57:20second go
00:57:20didn't stop him either
00:57:21corner
00:57:22Jeremy Frimpong
00:57:26has
00:57:26certainly been
00:57:28a player to excite
00:57:31Liverpool fans today
00:57:32McAllister with the corner
00:57:35something different
00:57:36Vietz
00:57:36blocked him behind
00:57:39but
00:57:40there might not have been
00:57:42a deflection
00:57:42I think it was a
00:57:43double hit
00:57:45from Florian Vietz
00:57:46yeah he kicked it
00:57:47onto his standing foot
00:57:48he was waiting to
00:58:04he felt he might have been
00:58:06fouled in the process
00:58:07of trying to strike
00:58:08lovely footwork again
00:58:10from Florian Vietz
00:58:12Gravenberg managed to
00:58:13hold off Mane
00:58:14and miskicked the shot
00:58:16Gomez
00:58:23now finds
00:58:24Mola Vulfa
00:58:25Strand Larsson
00:58:28Zao Gomez
00:58:29here's Chachua
00:58:32and Erika Dare
00:58:33that was a huge chance
00:58:37for Wolves
00:58:38they worked it brilliantly
00:58:40all that was lacking
00:58:43was the finish
00:58:43Liverpool fans
00:58:46young and old
00:58:46like kids on Christmas Eve
00:58:48the time can't go
00:58:49quickly enough
00:58:49looked on by Erika Dare
00:58:54to Strand Larsson
00:58:55Strand Larsson
00:58:57across
00:58:58what a tackle
00:59:00by Bradley
00:59:00John Arias
00:59:02was about
00:59:03to fire Wolves
00:59:04level
00:59:05how many times
00:59:06must Liverpool
00:59:07have the warning shots
00:59:09they are living
00:59:11very dangerously
00:59:12indeed
00:59:12against the Premier League's
00:59:13bottom club
00:59:14players are giving
00:59:17everything
00:59:17they're trying really hard
00:59:18as well
00:59:18and they are showing
00:59:19that they're not
00:59:21caving in
00:59:22they're not going under
00:59:222-0 down at Anfield
00:59:24but you know
00:59:24we fought back
00:59:25to make a real game of it
00:59:27and then we're pushing
00:59:27for an equaliser
00:59:28so you can see
00:59:29they're not going under
00:59:29they're trying
00:59:30and there are signs
00:59:31of improvement there
00:59:32there's no doubt about it
00:59:33but ultimately
00:59:33this game's about
00:59:34getting points
00:59:35and we've not been able
00:59:37to get that so far
00:59:37I was confident
00:59:38that I will score one day
00:59:40but of course
00:59:41I wanted to start earlier
00:59:43scoring and assisting
00:59:45but it was like this
00:59:47and I have to accept it
00:59:49I just know
00:59:50that it will come
00:59:51and I just try to
00:59:53keep going like that
00:59:54what was it like
00:59:55having Diogo Joss's
00:59:56children here today
00:59:57now that was
00:59:58again special
00:59:59after a tragedy
01:00:00happened
01:00:01till now
01:00:02I've seen so many
01:00:03special moments
01:00:04where the fans
01:00:05remembered him
01:00:05or our players
01:00:06conducted themselves
01:00:07unbelievable
01:00:08in all these circumstances
01:00:09and it was again
01:00:11special today
01:00:12to see
01:00:12his children
01:00:13being the mascot
01:00:14and
01:00:15how emotional
01:00:17it was
01:00:17I think already
01:00:18before the game
01:00:19but also definitely
01:00:20in the 20th minute
01:00:21yeah another
01:00:23emotional day
01:00:24today at Anfield
01:00:25but Liverpool
01:00:26did get the win
01:00:26and a first goal
01:00:27for Florian Vert
01:00:28so are we starting
01:00:29to see Wayne
01:00:30the best of him
01:00:30do you think
01:00:31yeah I think we are
01:00:32I think he's had
01:00:33some really good
01:00:34performances this season
01:00:35but he just hasn't
01:00:35got the goals
01:00:36to go with them
01:00:37and he was really
01:00:38impressive today
01:00:39he took up some
01:00:40great positions
01:00:41he was going out wide
01:00:42he was coming in
01:00:43the middle of the pitch
01:00:44and he's starting
01:00:45to get a real good
01:00:46understanding with Kirk
01:00:47as we see him here
01:00:49but I think just
01:00:50some of the positions
01:00:50he was picking up
01:00:51he was causing
01:00:52Wolves problems
01:00:53all game
01:00:53we see him here
01:00:54in behind the Wolves
01:00:55midfield
01:00:56and then Eketike
01:00:56with a great run
01:00:57it's a wonderful pass
01:00:59and Eketike is unlucky
01:01:00with his finish
01:01:02so he's shown glimpses
01:01:04of being a top top player
01:01:05which I think he can be
01:01:07for Liverpool
01:01:07and again here
01:01:08with Kirkus
01:01:09that's brilliant
01:01:11from Eketike
01:01:11and then Vert
01:01:12pulling off the shoulder
01:01:13it's a wonderful pass
01:01:14again from Eketike
01:01:15and then a good finish
01:01:17and then as we see here
01:01:21he's willing to run back
01:01:23and put the work in
01:01:24for his teammates
01:01:24he's defending his own
01:01:26penalty box
01:01:27and then he's out wide
01:01:28blocking crosses
01:01:30so again here with Kirkus
01:01:33the understanding they're getting
01:01:34is really good
01:01:35and some great skill here
01:01:37in the penalty box
01:01:38and then he's unlucky not to get
01:01:41the third goal
01:01:42so I thought he was excellent
01:01:43today
01:01:43yeah and is there
01:01:46a particular challenge
01:01:47you think you've played
01:01:47with players who've come
01:01:49from the Bundesliga
01:01:50that that league presents
01:01:51in terms of how you adapt
01:01:52to the Premier League
01:01:53yeah I remember
01:01:55Bastian Swansager
01:01:57when he first joined
01:01:58Manchester United
01:01:59and he was surprised
01:02:01at the pace of the Premier League
01:02:02and he liked to get his foot
01:02:03on the ball
01:02:04and slow the game down
01:02:05and you know
01:02:06sometimes you need time
01:02:08to adapt to it
01:02:08yeah
01:02:09okay
01:02:09well the last time
01:02:11West Ham had just 13 points
01:02:13at Christmas
01:02:13they were relegated
01:02:14Fulham were looking to win
01:02:15three in a row
01:02:16for the first time this season
01:02:17Simon Brotherton
01:02:18was at the London Stadium
01:02:19West Ham have won
01:02:21six of the last
01:02:22seven home meetings
01:02:23with Fulham
01:02:24and how they need
01:02:25another three points today
01:02:26but the visitors
01:02:27travel across London
01:02:28in fine form
01:02:29and have won
01:02:30their last two
01:02:31away from home
01:02:32Nuno Espirito Santo
01:02:34goes with the same 11
01:02:35that started last week's
01:02:36defeat at Manchester City
01:02:38Jared Bowen
01:02:39has scored in six
01:02:40of the last dozen
01:02:41home matches
01:02:42in the Premier League
01:02:43but hasn't been on the
01:02:44winning side
01:02:44in any of them
01:02:45Fulham were waiting
01:02:46on the fitness
01:02:47of Harry Wilson
01:02:47who suffered a bang
01:02:48on the knee
01:02:49against Forest

01:02:50but he's been declared
01:02:51fit to start

01:03:14Lukic who finds
01:03:18Jimenez
01:03:18little look around
01:03:19and he sees
01:03:20Wilson away
01:03:20to his right
01:03:22Tete's there
01:03:22in support
01:03:23Wilson's going to
01:03:24look for an angle
01:03:24to get a shot in
01:03:25and it was a terrific
01:03:26one as well
01:03:27and an excellent
01:03:28fingertip save
01:03:29from Alphonse Arreola
01:03:31struck beautifully
01:03:33by Harry Wilson
01:03:34saved superbly
01:03:36by Arreola
01:03:36Fernandes finds
01:03:39Bowen
01:03:39whipping that one
01:03:40in with Venom
01:03:41good header

01:03:48West Ham start
01:03:50to threaten
01:03:50Bowen looks to
01:03:51unleash it
01:03:52Bernd Leno tested
01:03:57for the first time
01:03:58in the match
01:03:59this by the way
01:04:02is the sixth
01:04:02London derby
01:04:03of the season
01:04:04for West Ham
01:04:04and they've lost
01:04:05all five so far
01:04:06intercepted by
01:04:09Jean-Claire Tadebo
01:04:10in the nick of time
01:04:11nicely done
01:04:12Mateus Fernandes
01:04:13and Paqueta
01:04:14away to Scarls
01:04:16who looks
01:04:16for Jared Bowen
01:04:18Bowen in for
01:04:20West Ham
01:04:20and it's just
01:04:21just denied
01:04:24but the flag
01:04:24has gone up
01:04:25was a tight one
01:04:27he's just offside
01:04:28it was a good save
01:04:31the crowd a bit more
01:04:33energised by the
01:04:34efforts of their team
01:04:34Paqueta
01:04:35well
01:04:36that was an interesting
01:04:37one there
01:04:38Paqueta going to ground
01:04:39the referee initially
01:04:40not looking as though
01:04:41he was about to award
01:04:42a free kick at all
01:04:43not the heaviest
01:04:45of touches
01:04:45now what can West Ham
01:04:48do with this one
01:04:49Freddie Potts
01:04:50sends it in
01:04:51Kilman getting up
01:04:52well
01:04:52Somerville
01:04:53oh
01:04:54and Magasa
01:04:55was right on the line
01:04:56Potts floating it
01:04:59into the penalty area
01:05:00prodigious leak
01:05:01from Kilman
01:05:02West Ham knocking
01:05:04on Fulham's door
01:05:05here
01:05:05two wins
01:05:07in the last three games
01:05:08for Marco Silva's team
01:05:09Anderson
01:05:16Anderson's going to have a go
01:05:17Arreola keeps it out
01:05:18Wilson's almost in
01:05:19and able to pounce
01:05:20well that suddenly
01:05:21turned into a very
01:05:22tricky moment there
01:05:23for Alphonse Arreola
01:05:24Anderson who hasn't
01:05:25scored since the third
01:05:26round of the FA Cup
01:05:28right at the start
01:05:28of the year
01:05:29almost had himself
01:05:30a goal
01:05:30in the last few days
01:05:32of 2025
01:05:33wrapped up on a chilly
01:05:36afternoon
01:05:36not been a great
01:05:39fixture over the years
01:05:40in modern times
01:05:41for Fulham
01:05:42this one
01:05:42West Ham away
01:05:43they've only won
01:05:44on one of their last
01:05:4614 visits in the
01:05:47Premier League
01:05:48oh Magasa's done
01:05:53really well here
01:05:54good save by Leno
01:05:56Wilson goes down
01:05:57Fulham get it away
01:05:58and Jimenez has it
01:05:59Kevin is ahead of him
01:06:00now and that's a
01:06:01vital interception
01:06:02off the heel of
01:06:03Jean-Claire Todibo
01:06:04West Ham throw
01:06:07Kevin thought it was his
01:06:08and here comes
01:06:11Walker-Peters now
01:06:13the chase for Magasa
01:06:15and it's just gone
01:06:18wide
01:06:18West Ham so close
01:06:23to breaking the
01:06:24deadlock
01:06:25Magasa did really
01:06:27well
01:06:27sending it across
01:06:28the face of the goal
01:06:29the save there
01:06:31by Bernd Leno
01:06:31and then
01:06:34the second one
01:06:37here
01:06:37the flick from
01:06:38Jared Bowen
01:06:39just past the post
01:06:41Magasa loses it
01:06:45Smith Rowe
01:06:45here's Sasha Lukic
01:06:47support from
01:06:48Robinson
01:06:49five Fulham players
01:06:51inside the box
01:06:52it was a stretch
01:06:53for Kilman
01:06:54but he's able to
01:06:55get it away
01:06:55Callum Wilson
01:06:59collecting
01:07:00Wilson looks to be
01:07:01away from Cuenca
01:07:02it's Callum Wilson
01:07:03and it's just wide
01:07:05they certainly look
01:07:08more threatening
01:07:09though
01:07:10Joachim Anderson
01:07:15nicely done
01:07:17Wilson sending it
01:07:19across
01:07:20they'll get a second
01:07:22a chance to do so
01:07:23and it's Raul Jimenez
01:07:24again
01:07:25with five minutes
01:07:28to go
01:07:29right place
01:07:30right time
01:07:301-0 Fulham
01:07:31Harry Wilson
01:07:33sent it across
01:07:34initially cut out
01:07:35second opportunity
01:07:36and it was
01:07:37beautifully flighted
01:07:38and Jimenez
01:07:40pounced
01:07:40it's what he does
01:07:42and it might be
01:07:43the goal
01:07:43to secure
01:07:44another away win
01:07:45for Fulham
01:07:46in what is turning
01:07:47out to be
01:07:48an excellent spell
01:07:49in this Premier League
01:07:51season for them
01:07:52but what a hammer
01:07:53blow for the hosts
01:07:54it wasn't the greatest
01:07:56game
01:07:56I think there was
01:07:57a few chances
01:07:59but not a lot
01:08:00happened in the game
01:08:01so I feel like
01:08:02from our point of view
01:08:03if we can't win it
01:08:04let's not lose it
01:08:06but we also knew
01:08:07that it was going
01:08:08to take maybe
01:08:08a mistake from them
01:08:09or a moment from us
01:08:11and yeah it was great
01:08:12when I put that ball
01:08:13in to see Raul waiting
01:08:14and I knew from there
01:08:15he was going to find
01:08:16the back limit
01:08:17Raul again
01:08:18he gives everything
01:08:19for the shirt
01:08:20he's a very hard worker
01:08:21his work ethic
01:08:22he's unbelievable
01:08:22for a player
01:08:23at his age
01:08:23he needs goals
01:08:24like all the strikers
01:08:25in the world
01:08:25and he goes to get
01:08:26the boost of confidence
01:08:27and to be more confident
01:08:28on the pitch
01:08:29I'm very pleased for him
01:08:30because he deserves
01:08:31all the credits
01:08:31what a tough one to take
01:08:32so late in the game
01:08:33so little time to do
01:08:35anything about it
01:08:35yeah he comes after
01:08:38some chances that we have
01:08:39during the second half
01:08:41and we've been punished
01:08:43by a mistake
01:08:43and we lose the game
01:08:45the player looked very
01:08:46very upset at the end
01:08:47yes of course
01:08:49shows that he cares a lot
01:08:50of course
01:08:51everybody cares
01:08:52and it's not about that
01:08:54it's about the situation
01:08:56that we are
01:08:56and everything bad
01:08:59happens to us
01:09:00we have to react
01:09:02the good part is
01:09:03that we play another game
01:09:04in today's time
01:09:05so another chance
01:09:07to give back
01:09:08to our offense
01:09:08well we should say
01:09:10first of all
01:09:11a great result
01:09:12for Fulham
01:09:12that's three wins
01:09:13on the bounce
01:09:14for them
01:09:14into the top half
01:09:15of the table
01:09:15it didn't seem so long ago
01:09:16that they were having
01:09:17a really rocky time
01:09:18but of course today
01:09:20they exploited a bit
01:09:20of inexperience
01:09:21in that West Ham
01:09:22yeah and that's
01:09:22what's cost West Ham
01:09:24today
01:09:24as you said
01:09:24great win for Fulham
01:09:25but young
01:09:26Oli Sculls
01:09:27get sort of
01:09:28dragged out of position
01:09:29there
01:09:29which okay
01:09:30then they recover
01:09:31they get in behind
01:09:33but it's the next
01:09:34error
01:09:35that is
01:09:35is the one
01:09:36that's the one
01:09:37that is going to be
01:09:37looked at
01:09:38and brilliant
01:09:39ball in from
01:09:40Harry Wilson
01:09:41and a great header
01:09:42but you know
01:09:43it's not
01:09:44that won't be
01:09:44his last mistake
01:09:45at all
01:09:46we all
01:09:46everyone's made mistakes
01:09:48as tough as it is
01:09:48you have to
01:09:49get over it
01:09:50and what I would say
01:09:51as upset as he is
01:09:5311 defeats
01:09:54this year
01:09:55at home
01:09:56for West Ham
01:09:57is not his fault
01:09:58and the league position
01:09:59they're in
01:09:59at the moment
01:10:00is not his fault
01:10:01so as tough as it is
01:10:03he has to get over it
01:10:04what would you say
01:10:05to him Wayne
01:10:05as a senior pro
01:10:06yeah you've just
01:10:08got to move on
01:10:09for me
01:10:09you know
01:10:09we've all made mistakes
01:10:11as players
01:10:11and obviously
01:10:12that mistake
01:10:12has cost a goal
01:10:13and he'll have to
01:10:14move on quickly
01:10:15as the manager said
01:10:16they've got another
01:10:17game coming up
01:10:18very shortly
01:10:18yeah
01:10:19okay
01:10:19thank you very much
01:10:20well Burnley
01:10:21with seven points
01:10:22from safety
01:10:23ahead of kick-off
01:10:24against Everton
01:10:24Stephen Wyeth
01:10:25was at Turfmoor
01:10:26the first of two
01:10:29festive home games
01:10:30to offer Burnley
01:10:31hope of stimulating
01:10:32a recovery
01:10:33three changes
01:10:34from the side
01:10:34that ended a run
01:10:35of seven successive
01:10:36defeats
01:10:37in come Armando
01:10:38Breuer
01:10:38who scored the
01:10:39equaliser at Bournemouth
01:10:40and Marcus Edwards
01:10:41and Bashir Humphreys
01:10:42for full Premier League
01:10:44debuts
01:10:44Everton's incentive
01:10:46is the paltry
01:10:47five-point gap
01:10:48between them
01:10:48and the top four
01:10:49however David Moyes
01:10:51options are further
01:10:52limited by the absence
01:10:53of Jack Grealish
01:10:54with what he described
01:10:55as a virus
01:10:56Tyler Dibbling
01:10:57replaces him
01:10:58with Beto
01:10:58getting a first start
01:11:00since October
01:11:00both of these clubs
01:11:03have been guilty
01:11:04of lethargy
01:11:05at this time
01:11:06of the year
01:11:06six defeats
01:11:07in seven
01:11:08between Christmas
01:11:09and New Year
01:11:10for Burnley
01:11:10Everton are winless
01:11:12in six
01:11:13that's tremendous
01:11:15work from Breuer
01:11:16Armando Breuer
01:11:22kind of like
01:11:23a man possessed
01:11:24but losing out there
01:11:26and Alcalá's
01:11:27can carry it forward
01:11:28for Everton
01:11:29who are going rapidly
01:11:30from one end
01:11:31of the field
01:11:32to the other
01:11:32Dibbling
01:11:37Oh it's flashed
01:11:40agonisingly
01:11:40across the face
01:11:41of goal
01:11:42Beto
01:11:42so close
01:11:44to a decisive touch
01:11:45first time
01:11:47that Tyler Dibbling
01:11:48has got on the ball
01:11:49in a threatening
01:11:50position
01:11:50for Everton
01:11:51but this is certainly
01:11:53the closest
01:11:53that we've come
01:11:54to a goal
01:11:54so far
01:11:55considering how many
01:11:57goals his side
01:11:58have given up
01:11:59in recent times
01:12:00the fact that
01:12:01they haven't conceded
01:12:02in the first half
01:12:03will certainly be
01:12:04the silver lining
01:12:05that Scott Parker
01:12:06is squinting at
01:12:08Kyle Walker
01:12:12has done well
01:12:13Edwards
01:12:14fortunate the ball
01:12:16bounced
01:12:17to Uga Chukwu
01:12:18and then back
01:12:18towards him
01:12:19and then the pass
01:12:20is sensational
01:12:21and Jakob Brun Larsson
01:12:23has lifted
01:12:23a glorious chance
01:12:25over the crossbar
01:12:26will Scott Parker's
01:12:28side
01:12:29get a better opportunity
01:12:30than that
01:12:31Brun Larsson
01:12:32given the benefit
01:12:33of the doubt
01:12:34that he was onside
01:12:35and has Pickford
01:12:36advanced
01:12:37and with plenty
01:12:39of the goal
01:12:40to lift the ball
01:12:40into
01:12:41instead he cleared
01:12:43the frame
01:12:44his team have
01:12:46given him some hope
01:12:47here we go Chukwu
01:12:50Florentino
01:12:52oh
01:12:54taken away from him
01:12:56Irribunum
01:12:56chances for Everton
01:12:58no doubt about it
01:12:59Irribunum for Dwight
01:13:00McNeil
01:13:00Irribunum
01:13:02oh so clever
01:13:03from Beto
01:13:04and it's taken
01:13:05exceptional reactions
01:13:07from Dubravka
01:13:07to turn the ball aside
01:13:09well he's
01:13:11been struggling
01:13:12for goals
01:13:12Beto
01:13:13but he
01:13:13so nearly
01:13:14brilliantly
01:13:15conjured one there
01:13:16and they have huffed
01:13:18and puffed
01:13:18have Burnley
01:13:19they say have been
01:13:20better defensively
01:13:21today than of late
01:13:22they haven't been able
01:13:24to marry that
01:13:25and he's scoring
01:13:26at the other end
01:13:27and a super pass
01:13:28from Garner
01:13:29Antiano Barry
01:13:30is in
01:13:31and Buckford
01:13:33the Bravka
01:13:33would have put
01:13:34Everton in front
01:13:35Antiano Barry
01:13:37off the bench
01:13:38very nearly
01:13:41placing the ball
01:13:42beyond the reach
01:13:43at the Bravka
01:13:43Dibling's going to
01:13:46get this for Everton
01:13:47he's got Lucas
01:13:49Perez
01:13:49momentarily isolated
01:13:50he's away from him
01:13:53and still going
01:13:54Dibling
01:13:55collision
01:13:56Everton
01:13:57free kick
01:13:58Greg Portsman
01:13:59just gave himself
01:14:00a moment or two
01:14:01to consider that
01:14:02decision
01:14:03Garner and McNeil
01:14:05standing over
01:14:06the free kick
01:14:06and will be McNeil
01:14:09whipping it in
01:14:10and it took a glance
01:14:13to send the ball
01:14:14just beyond the far
01:14:15post and that touch
01:14:16was Sopha Burnley
01:14:17defender
01:14:18that was vicious
01:14:19from McNeil
01:14:20Garner with the corner
01:14:23Diblaevka comes
01:14:24Tyler Dibling
01:14:25charged down
01:14:27and then as he
01:14:30half appeals
01:14:30for handball
01:14:31he's then
01:14:32stirred back
01:14:34into action
01:14:35and there is a
01:14:36check in the
01:14:37background for
01:14:37whether or not
01:14:38this is worthy
01:14:39of a penalty
01:14:39kick
01:14:39ferocious shot
01:14:41from Dibling
01:14:41and I don't think
01:14:43there's any debate
01:14:43over whether or not
01:14:45the ball struck
01:14:45the arm here
01:14:46of Jadon Antony
01:14:47it's whether or not
01:14:49it struck his arm
01:14:50in an unnatural
01:14:51position
01:14:51to Burnley's
01:14:53considerable relief
01:14:55that has been
01:14:56quite quickly
01:14:57checked and
01:14:58cleared
01:14:58no penalty
01:15:00final minute
01:15:02of the 90
01:15:03Garner
01:15:06Patterson
01:15:08that would have
01:15:10been a story
01:15:11moments after his
01:15:14long awaited
01:15:15reintroduction
01:15:15Jadon Antony
01:15:17there's a chance
01:15:18here for Burnley
01:15:18Zian Fleming
01:15:19is in
01:15:21and has come
01:15:23as close
01:15:24to scoring
01:15:25as it is
01:15:26possible to come
01:15:27it might have
01:15:29taken some unpicking
01:15:30as to whether or not
01:15:31Fleming was offside
01:15:32the on-field decision
01:15:33was that
01:15:34he had gone beyond
01:15:35the defensive line
01:15:36the Burnley
01:15:38substitute
01:15:38this close
01:15:40to stroking the ball
01:15:42into the back
01:15:42of the net
01:15:43it has finished
01:15:44at Turf Moor
01:15:45Burnley 0
01:15:46Everton 0
01:15:47David
01:15:48what's your initial
01:15:48assessment of that
01:15:49a slow burner
01:15:50you wouldn't want
01:15:52to watch too much
01:15:53of that
01:15:53certainly from
01:15:54our point of view
01:15:55Burnley might have
01:15:56different thoughts
01:15:56on how they were
01:15:57but from our point
01:15:59of view
01:15:59it wasn't a good
01:16:00performance
01:16:00we have been
01:16:01playing quite well
01:16:02recently
01:16:02but today wasn't
01:16:04one of our best
01:16:05I thought we was
01:16:06a dominant team
01:16:07today
01:16:07I thought we showed
01:16:08an endeavour about us
01:16:09we showed a will
01:16:09about us
01:16:10we understood
01:16:11where we currently
01:16:12are and what we
01:16:12need to be
01:16:13and for that
01:16:14that's progression
01:16:15really for this
01:16:16group
01:16:16so
01:16:17while of course
01:16:18we can be a little
01:16:19bit downbeat
01:16:20in terms of
01:16:21the chances
01:16:22we created
01:16:22and not putting
01:16:23them away
01:16:23we've created
01:16:25them
01:16:25and we've also
01:16:26we've took a very
01:16:28good team here
01:16:29right to it
01:16:30really
01:16:30so
01:16:31yeah I'm
01:16:32encouraged by that
01:16:32back to back
01:16:33draws for Burnley
01:16:34but with so many
01:16:35key players missing
01:16:36for Everton
01:16:37was that missed
01:16:38opportunity for Scott
01:16:39Parker's team
01:16:39yeah I think it was
01:16:40and you know
01:16:41Everton had Jack
01:16:41Brealish out
01:16:42N'Day
01:16:42Garner
01:16:43Guy
01:16:43Dewsbury
01:16:44Hall
01:16:44so I think it was
01:16:45a missed opportunity
01:16:46a good chance for Burnley
01:16:48to pick up
01:16:49three points
01:16:50and they were wasteful
01:16:52Brun Larsson
01:16:52he's got a great
01:16:54opportunity to score
01:16:55and he's wasted
01:16:56that opportunity
01:16:57and then
01:16:59and this one
01:17:00right at the end
01:17:01whether he was
01:17:01onside or offside
01:17:03remains to be seen
01:17:04but
01:17:04he has to score
01:17:06and
01:17:07Burnley had
01:17:0816
01:17:09if you look at
01:17:12he had
01:17:1216 shots today
01:17:13and not one on target
01:17:14the expected goals
01:17:16today was up
01:17:16it was 1.65
01:17:17and
01:17:17touches in the
01:17:19opposition's box
01:17:19was high as well
01:17:21but
01:17:21no shots on target
01:17:22from 16
01:17:23that's
01:17:23that's not good enough
01:17:24a nice trip
01:17:25St James' Park next
01:17:26oh no
01:17:28they're at home
01:17:28sorry
01:17:29they're home
01:17:29Turf Moor
01:17:30yeah
01:17:30okay
01:17:31well that changes
01:17:31everything then
01:17:32okay
01:17:34time for last night's
01:17:35action
01:17:35no team had won
01:17:36more games on Boxing Day
01:17:38than Manchester United
01:17:38and no team had lost
01:17:40more games than
01:17:40Newcastle United
01:17:41on Boxing Day
01:17:42Tom Gale
01:17:42was at Old Trafford
01:17:44Ruben Amorim
01:17:46says it's impossible
01:17:47to replace Bruno
01:17:48Fernandes
01:17:49statistically
01:17:50the Premier League's
01:17:51most creative player
01:17:52this season
01:17:52who could miss
01:17:53the next five games
01:17:55easily the longest
01:17:56absence of his
01:17:57Manchester United
01:17:58career
01:17:58with no Ahmed
01:17:59and Mbumo
01:18:00Matthias Kunja's
01:18:01the clear threat
01:18:02and looking to score
01:18:03in a third consecutive
01:18:05game
01:18:05Newcastle have their
01:18:07own injury concerns
01:18:08with six defenders
01:18:09out
01:18:10Lewis Miley
01:18:10continues to fill in
01:18:12at right back
01:18:12Jacob Murphy
01:18:13makes his 200th
01:18:15Premier League appearance
01:18:16Nick Pope
01:18:16returns on the bench
01:18:18after a month out
01:18:19with a groin problem
01:18:20Volta Mardin
01:18:24a little bit of luck
01:18:25there for the German
01:18:26Gordon
01:18:27Volta Mardin
01:18:29Dorguk
01:18:30tracking back
01:18:32at the expense
01:18:33of Newcastle's
01:18:34first quarter
01:18:35Tonali to take
01:18:39in front of the
01:18:40Stretford end
01:18:41towards the near post
01:18:45and flicks on
01:18:46and saved
01:18:46Lamins
01:18:48with a smart stop
01:18:50Gimaraish with the
01:18:53header
01:18:53and he's down low
01:18:55Senna Lamins
01:18:57Sheshka will apply
01:19:01the pressure to
01:19:02Chap
01:19:02does enough
01:19:04finds Kunja
01:19:07Kunja to run it
01:19:09Malik Chap
01:19:09goes low
01:19:12and denied
01:19:13by Ramsdale
01:19:14certainly kept his
01:19:16guess in there
01:19:17Matthias Kunja
01:19:17whether or not
01:19:18he'd go for the
01:19:19shot or the cross
01:19:20and the English
01:19:21goalkeeper
01:19:22down well
01:19:23to make the

01:19:27Volta Mardin

01:19:30a Christmas
01:19:36cracker
01:19:37from Patrick
01:19:37Dorguk
01:19:38what a memorable
01:19:40way to score
01:19:41your first
01:19:42Manchester United
01:19:43goal
01:19:44Dallot's
01:19:46throw
01:19:46Volta Mardin
01:19:48he makes the
01:19:49first contact
01:19:50but Dorguk
01:19:51with excellent
01:19:53technique
01:19:54he hits that
01:19:56crisp as you like
01:19:57through traffic
01:19:59Ramsdale
01:20:00sees it late
01:20:01faint appeals
01:20:04for offside
01:20:05but the goal

01:20:06former Manchester
01:20:10Manchester United

01:20:19laments
01:20:22this clearance

01:20:43Gimaraish
01:20:47it went on the ball
01:20:49Shashko
01:20:50flag has stayed down
01:20:51Benjamin Shashko
01:20:53rattles the crossbar
01:20:55Gimaraish of all people
01:20:58guilty of trying to do too much
01:21:00Ugarte read his movements
01:21:02falls to Shashko
01:21:04on his left foot
01:21:05could have sense that he wanted it on his right
01:21:08sees there's no option to
01:21:10get that strike off
01:21:12so goes with his left
01:21:13Xerxi
01:21:18can't make it stick
01:21:20Hall
01:21:21drop of the shoulder to get away from Ugarte
01:21:24Lewis Hall hits the crossbar
01:21:26still not cleared

01:21:35Yarrow
01:21:36Hall again
01:21:37lets fly
01:21:39blocked by Manchester United
01:21:41and it is
01:21:43a Newcastle United corner
01:21:44Lamins is certainly beaten
01:21:47as it rattles the crossbar
01:21:50corner comes in
01:21:53Dallow's head
01:21:54a share
01:21:54is that blocked by his own man
01:21:56appeals for handball
01:21:57Vultramane
01:21:58Chau took a swing
01:22:00close lips
01:22:03Manchester United and Newcastle United
01:22:07player are down
01:22:08and the referee stops play
01:22:09Newcastle United are appealing for handball
01:22:14and it does involve
01:22:18Lissandro Martinez
01:22:20it does make contacts
01:22:22with his arm
01:22:23but I'm not sure what he can do there
01:22:25they are checked and cleared
01:22:28they are happy with the on-field decision
01:22:30pick the way through here
01:22:38Gordon with a chance
01:22:39and it's just rolled straight across the Manchester United
01:22:45six-yard box
01:22:47that was his moment there
01:22:49Anthony Gordon
01:22:50Dorku
01:22:52Dorku
01:22:56cynically fouled there by
01:23:00Sandro Tonali
01:23:02not quite sure what his remonstrations are for
01:23:04it's a clear yellow card for the Italian
01:23:08Martinez
01:23:10spots Dallow
01:23:11finds Dallow
01:23:12good for his touch
01:23:13what a moment
01:23:18excellent spot
01:23:20from the Manchester United
01:23:22captain Martinez
01:23:23look at that first touch
01:23:24could that come back to haunt
01:23:26Manchester United here on Boxing Day
01:23:28I thought we should have come away with something
01:23:53but we only have ourselves to blame for that
01:23:55it's a frustrating game
01:23:57because I thought in the first half
01:23:58I thought it was there for us to grab
01:24:00and we didn't
01:24:00I was disappointed with our performance at half-time
01:24:02second half was a lot stronger
01:24:04I thought we dominated the game
01:24:05in terms of possession and chances
01:24:07and it was just that elusive first goal for us
01:24:09I think if we get it at any stage in the game
01:24:11the win's there for us
01:24:12but we didn't
01:24:13and they defended well
01:24:14it felt amazing
01:24:15I just want to thank God
01:24:16thank my family
01:24:17and me as well
01:24:19to keep working hard
01:24:20even though it's been tough
01:24:21the last recent weeks
01:24:23and yeah
01:24:24just keep going
01:24:24and build more confidence
01:24:25for this
01:24:26it was the opposite of many games that we have
01:24:29especially at home
01:24:30when we play better
01:24:32we create more chances
01:24:33and we didn't get the three points
01:24:35today I think it was the opposite
01:24:36I think we did a good
01:24:38just good first half
01:24:40and then the second half
01:24:41we suffered altogether
01:24:42with the fans
01:24:43with all the guys in the bench
01:24:44we managed to win
01:24:45so they move into the top six
01:24:48Wayne
01:24:48but what were your thoughts
01:24:49on the performance last night
01:24:51I was worried when I seen the performance
01:24:53if I'm being honest
01:24:54and
01:24:54I think he changed
01:24:56the manager changed the formation
01:24:58and he went with the back four
01:24:59which a lot of people have been asking for
01:25:01but they didn't really
01:25:03I know they didn't concede the goal
01:25:05but they didn't look comfortable
01:25:06and Newcastle were putting them under pressure
01:25:07especially the second half
01:25:08and then
01:25:10when I look at the squad
01:25:11and the bench
01:25:12what they've got there
01:25:14they really need players in
01:25:15to try and help them
01:25:16you know
01:25:17be challenging
01:25:18and try and get in the top four
01:25:20he honestly said before
01:25:23didn't he
01:25:23that he would never
01:25:24play a back four
01:25:25and he did that
01:25:26what kind of point do you think
01:25:28he's making in terms of the youth
01:25:29that was on that bench last night
01:25:30yeah no
01:25:31and listen
01:25:31it's great to see the young players
01:25:33on the bench
01:25:33and get them given an opportunity
01:25:35but it needs to be at the right time as well
01:25:37and
01:25:37it's not
01:25:40it's not sustainable at all
01:25:41I think
01:25:42you know
01:25:42they need players in
01:25:45and they've obviously lost some important players
01:25:46and Bruno is a big loss
01:25:48but
01:25:48this is the home games under Amman
01:25:52and you look at the possession
01:25:53from the Newcastle game
01:25:54it's 33% possession at Old Trafford
01:25:56and
01:25:56you know
01:25:57I know when them fans go to that stadium
01:25:59they want to see the team with the ball
01:26:00they want to see them entertaining
01:26:01getting crosses in the box
01:26:02and getting shots
01:26:03and
01:26:04it was
01:26:04it was a poor performance
01:26:06but they found a way to win
01:26:07they did last night
01:26:08but you're alluding to the fact
01:26:09that that is not sustainable
01:26:10as for Newcastle United
01:26:12there was that kind of familiar pattern
01:26:13to them last night
01:26:15Alan
01:26:15yeah
01:26:16I mean
01:26:17when you're putting
01:26:1946 crosses
01:26:21into the box
01:26:23or attempting 46 crosses
01:26:25then
01:26:25someone has to get on the end
01:26:27of them
01:26:28I mean
01:26:29this is a brilliant ball
01:26:30there weren't that many great balls
01:26:31but this is one of them last night
01:26:32I mean
01:26:33Gordon or Valtomar
01:26:34it has to get on the end of that
01:26:36the movement has to be better
01:26:38same thing again here
01:26:39Gordon might be looking to score
01:26:41but look at the
01:26:41four or five Newcastle players
01:26:43there's not one of them
01:26:44in the six yard box
01:26:45if someone isn't attacking that
01:26:46they're getting a tap in
01:26:47so it's decision making
01:26:49as well as the lack of quality
01:26:50and again
01:26:51that has to be rolled across to Vissa
01:26:53it's not a difficult ball
01:26:54chooses the more difficult chance
01:26:56to pick Gordon out
01:26:58and it is worrying
01:26:59there's no doubt about it
01:27:00particularly
01:27:00they're a home form
01:27:02you can see
01:27:03the crosses there
01:27:04they put in against Manchester United
01:27:05look what they did against Spurs
01:27:07in terms of 40
01:27:08and when you're
01:27:09when you've got that
01:27:10amount of balls wide
01:27:11and putting them in there
01:27:12and you're only taking
01:27:13two points from their four games
01:27:15that tells you
01:27:16that there's a lack of quality
01:27:17and certainly a lack of movement
01:27:19and a lack of desire
01:27:20to get on the end of them
01:27:21is the saving grace for Newcastle
01:27:23that the table at the moment
01:27:25seems so tight
01:27:26that movement can happen
01:27:27very suddenly
01:27:27can't it
01:27:28if you put some form together
01:27:28no absolutely
01:27:29I mean
01:27:29we were talking about
01:27:30Fulham being in a relegation battle
01:27:32two or three weeks ago
01:27:33yet they win three games
01:27:34on the spin
01:27:34and they're in the top half now
01:27:36so that's what Newcastle
01:27:37have to do that
01:27:38I think they've got
01:27:38Burnley Palace
01:27:39Leeds and Wolves
01:27:40in the next four games
01:27:41that is a great opportunity
01:27:43to win some games
01:27:44OK
01:27:44seems like a good time
01:27:46to have a little look
01:27:46at the table
01:27:47doesn't it
01:27:47and well
01:27:49you can see there
01:27:49it's as you were
01:27:50at the top
01:27:51following wins for Arsenal
01:27:52Manchester City
01:27:53and Aston Villa
01:27:53all eyes will now be
01:27:54on the Emirates
01:27:55on Tuesday
01:27:55as Villa travel
01:27:56to take Arsenal
01:27:58on in a huge clash
01:27:59Brentford are up to eight
01:28:00Fulham also rises
01:28:01for top half
01:28:02Wolves are just the second side
01:28:03in top flight history
01:28:04to fail to record a win
01:28:07in their opening
01:28:0818 matches of the season
01:28:09after Bolton Wanderers
01:28:10in the 1902-03 campaign
01:28:12and West Ham
01:28:12failed to close the gap
01:28:14on Nottingham Forest
01:28:14after they suffered
01:28:15a club record equaling
01:28:1711th home league defeat
01:28:19of 2025
01:28:20thank you to Alan and Wayne
01:28:21I hope everybody's finished off
01:28:22all the leftovers
01:28:23and done all the washing up
01:28:24by the time you get home
01:28:25so Watkins wins it
01:28:27for Villa
01:28:27tis the season
01:28:29to be Oli
