00:27Welcome to the Jonathan Rush Show, we've got a fabulous
00:29show lined up for you tonight, wait till you see who's in my green room.
00:33First up, an incredible actor and a phenomenal race car driver, he's the star of one of my
00:39favourite shows of all time, Grey's Anatomy, it's Patrick Dempsey!
00:44There he is. Hey Patrick. Looking alarmingly good.
00:52Alongside Patrick this evening are these next two are pretty much British royalty.
00:56You'll know him from EastEnders, Rivals and movies like Marching Powder.
01:00She won the nation's hearts by winning both Love Island and S.A.S. Who Dares Wins.
01:05It's Danny Dyer and Danny Dyer.
01:08The Dyer. Hi Danny, hi Danny.
01:13Plus, if I won enough, we've got a comedian who I've watched grow up from being an awkward,
01:18gangly stand-up to an awkward, gangly movie star is the always hilarious Mr Jack Whitehall.
01:25Hey gangly, how's it going?
01:29Why can't I do an introduction like Patrick?
01:31Look, it's a nice thing to say, I'm saying that you're vulnerable like the rest of us.
01:36Unbelievable.
01:38And we've got music and chat from a brilliant British musician and actor.
01:42She's nominated for Artist of the Year at next week's Brits.
01:46And one of her tracks was the unofficial Lionesses Anthem,
01:48which helped spur our team on to victory.
01:51It is Rebecca Lucy Taylor, a.k.a. Self-Esteem.
01:54Thank you, Rebecca. How have you ever seen?
01:56Thank you for joining.
01:58OK, so before I get my guests out, and I want to get them out as quick as possible,
02:02have you all been enjoying the Winter Olympics this year?
02:05Yes!
02:06Amazing.
02:07Well, you may be enjoying it, and I'm enjoying it,
02:10but none of us are enjoying it as much as the athletes themselves,
02:13because take a look at this news story.
02:15Olympic villages, one out of condoms,
02:18and the 2026 Games future, higher than anticipated demand.
02:23OK, so there are reports, this is the report,
02:25the Olympic Committee, they supplied 10,000 condoms for 2,871 athletes.
02:32And they ran out in three days.
02:36I've done the maths, so that's nearly three and a half condoms each
02:39over the three days, though any adults in the audience know
02:42those half condoms aren't that much use.
02:44That's more than once a day each.
02:46They should win a gold medal for that alone.
02:49But remember, maybe it isn't just sex,
02:51because they are for protection in other ways as well.
02:54For example, I think you might want to slip one on
02:56if you were taking part in this event.
02:57Look at that, you see, just to be safe,
03:01that is the double lube.
03:02Sorry, the double lube.
03:04The double lube.
03:05But my favourite thing from the Winter Olympics
03:07hasn't been the curling, which I've been loving.
03:09It hasn't been the skeleton bob, I've been loving.
03:11It's been Snoop Dogg.
03:13Snoop Dogg is out there supporting the US team,
03:15and here we have some footage of him trying out
03:17some Olympic sports as well.
03:19Have a look at this.
03:19Like this.
03:20Just like that?
03:21Yeah.
03:22You can even make gestures into it if you want.
03:26Like that?
03:31Oh, s***!
03:42There he is.
03:44There he is.
03:45Slipping on gin and juice.
03:48Let's get my first guest out, shall we?
03:50We have to start the show a hilarious comedian
03:52and the nation's favourite father and daughter, Dua.
03:55Will you welcome Jack Whitehall and the Dyers?
03:57CHEERING AND APPLAUSE
04:15Ah, yes.
04:17Well, it is fabulous to have you all here.
04:19I love having the show.
04:20Danny, it's the first time I've entered you together with your dad.
04:22It's the first time I've done the pair of you, haven't I?
04:24Is it?
04:24I think so, yeah.
04:25And her brother.
04:27LAUGHTER
04:27We've done as a three now.
04:28Not me other son, like me little posh son.
04:30Yeah.
04:31We are actually all related.
04:32We are all related to William the Conqueror.
04:3450th in line to the throne.
04:36When?
04:36And after the Epstein files, 49th.
04:38LAUGHTER
04:39Well, he's gone early.
04:40He's gone early.
04:41He's gone early.
04:42What?
04:42He's gone early.
04:43Just get it out of my system.
04:44Hey, congratulations are in order, ladies and gentlemen,
04:47because little Dan got married just a short while ago.
04:50Congratulations.
04:52CHEERING AND APPLAUSE
04:53And I know that Big Danny was particularly happy.
04:59So, look at me, look.
05:00So happy.
05:01Yeah, yeah, because the young man you married to,
05:03he is the...
05:04Now, cos I don't know much about football,
05:05he's the captain of the West Ham football team.
05:08He's my hero, this man.
05:10Yeah.
05:10And she fucking married him.
05:12It's just incredible to me.
05:13So...
05:14It's just incredible.
05:15I was Jewett, really, because...
05:17Yeah.
05:17You were Jewett?
05:18Well, yeah, because you ain't a first fella, is it?
05:20You know what I mean?
05:21Right.
05:22Right.
05:23Right.
05:23Right.
05:23Yeah, you deserved someone like Jarrod.
05:26Kissed a few frogs.
05:27Kissed a few frogs and not got my prince.
05:28Yeah.
05:29You really did.
05:30And how hard was it to stop your father going on the honeymoon
05:33with you, seeing as he...
05:34LAUGHTER
05:34Yeah, really hard.
05:36You just...
05:36Yeah, you just adore him a lot, don't you?
05:38You always want to...
05:40We were saying before, he wanted to tuck him in bed.
05:43If Jarrod's up for sleep, he goes,
05:44I might go upstairs and just roll him over and just check the...
05:47Well, you know...
05:48LAUGHTER
05:48You're going to come home and you're going to find him
05:50spooning him upstairs.
05:52Yeah.
05:52It doesn't shock me.
05:53No, I did want the first answer for him as well, but...
05:56LAUGHTER
05:56You're not allowed.
05:58Well, not according to the Beckhams.
06:00LAUGHTER
06:01So...
06:02So...
06:02Yeah.
06:04What was the father of the bride?
06:06What was the speech like on the wedding?
06:07What was his speech like?
06:08It was brilliant.
06:09It was so good.
06:10Really natural.
06:11It didn't feel like you...
06:12Did you plan it?
06:13No.
06:13I did bring me BAFTA and I did it because...
06:17LAUGHTER
06:17I wanted to write them with a joke which said,
06:19Look, today's not about me.
06:21But...
06:21LAUGHTER
06:22And then I pulled out my BAFTA and...
06:24Look, the speech was written for me, really.
06:25I mean, it was just...
06:26You know, it was just me sort of...
06:28It was such a beautiful day as a father anyway, so...
06:32You know, I didn't want to get too heavy.
06:34So, we had a bit of a laugh and a joke about it, didn't we?
06:37Jared's speech was amazing.
06:38He was choking me up.
06:39I didn't want to get choked up and that, do you know what I mean?
06:41Jack's got a big day coming up.
06:42Jack is getting married, finally, to the woman he's been engaged to
06:46for...somewhere now.
06:46A very decent amount of time.
06:49LAUGHTER
06:49How long have you been engaged for, Jack?
06:51Two years.
06:51Two years, OK.
06:52Yeah.
06:53You're married to Roxy.
06:54But why wait so long?
06:54I'm always curious as to when...
06:55Stop, why?
06:56You did this when I hadn't popped the question
06:58and now you're trying to do it again.
07:00But when you're engaged, it's like you're engaged.
07:01You might as well just do it quick, don't you think?
07:03I had a baby.
07:05Well, congratulations.
07:06Has she put you up to this?
07:07No.
07:07No.
07:08But you're looking forward to it.
07:09Presumably you're looking forward to it.
07:10Have you made plans for the wedding?
07:11Do you know what you're doing?
07:12Yeah, we were great.
07:13Yeah, no, I'm very excited.
07:15It's going to be great.
07:15And it's like, also, yeah, the sort of first time that our families
07:19are ever coming together, which I'm looking forward to them
07:21all meeting each other.
07:22Now, how's that going to be?
07:23Because your families, I believe, are from somewhat different worlds,
07:25aren't they?
07:26Uh, yes.
07:27Yeah, no, like, my family are, it will come as no surprise to you,
07:31a bunch of sort of, you know, gilet-wearing, chinless toffs.
07:36Right.
07:37And then her family are like proper Cockney.
07:40They're proper all West Ham fans.
07:42Yeah, proper salt of the earth.
07:43So our, yeah, I mean, her Uncle Gary makes Danny look like
07:47Jacob Rees-Mogg.
07:50Yeah, like, they're proper.
07:54So our wedding is going to be amazing.
07:56It's going to be like a sort of mash-up of, you know,
07:59Downton Abbey and EastEnders.
08:00I can't wait.
08:02Here's the weird thing.
08:03I don't know if it's true, you just came back from holiday,
08:05is that right?
08:06Yeah.
08:06Where did you go?
08:07Somewhere nice, wasn't there?
08:07Where did you go to?
08:08Uh, I went...
08:10The Maldives.
08:11Yeah, Maldives.
08:11You can say it.
08:12No-one's going to judge you.
08:13It was a jet-to holiday to...
08:16You came back from the Maldives and you bumped into someone
08:19out there, I believe.
08:20Yeah.
08:21Will you tell us about how this unfolded?
08:23Well, obviously, because I, you know, I tell quite a lot
08:25of jokes about people on shows like the Brits and I'm always
08:28worried that I will then bump into these people and I was on
08:31this holiday and I was in the restaurant with Roxy having a
08:34lovely dinner and Craig David walked into the restaurant and I
08:37was like, oh no, I've said so many jokes about him.
08:40This is so awkward.
08:42And then he started walking over towards the table.
08:44I was like, oh my God, he's going to come over and he's going
08:45to say something.
08:46Roxy, head down, head down.
08:47He walked over to the table.
08:48He was like, hey, Roxy, it's so good to see you.
08:51How are you?
08:51And Roxy had a little chat with him.
08:53He was like, oh, it's been too long.
08:54Yeah, lovely to see you.
08:55Bye.
08:55Didn't even address me and just walked off.
08:57Wow.
08:58I turned to Roxy.
08:59I was like, what the hell was that?
09:01She went, oh yeah, me and Craig, we used to hang out.
09:03Back in the day.
09:04I was like, which day?
09:06It's important.
09:07Monday, Tuesday, Sunday, fine.
09:10Any other day of the week, we've got an issue.
09:17What day was it after?
09:19Thursday.
09:20Thursday.
09:23Through to Saturday.
09:25I'm having a little Danny now, just to be clear.
09:28Danny, you've got three children, I believe.
09:29Yes.
09:29You've got, is it Santiago?
09:31Yes.
09:32Summer and Star, is that right?
09:33Yes.
09:34Different ages, of course.
09:34It sounds lovely, lovely names.
09:36I'm asking you what Big Danny is like as a grandfather to them.
09:39How does that work out?
09:40Oh, no, you know what?
09:41He loves them.
09:41He always says he misses the twins and then he sees them for half
09:45hour when he's ready for them to go, won't you?
09:47We call them the Terribles.
09:49We call them the Terribles.
09:50Because they really do.
09:51They come round Mark Gaff and they smash it to pieces.
09:54Do they call you, are you Grandpa, Granddad?
09:57Granddad.
09:58As soon as when you ring, everyone's like, Granddad, they
10:01love him.
10:02Although, I just finished Rivals last week, so I've just
10:05took my moustache, I've had a moustache for ten months.
10:07And so I don't think they're going to know I am.
10:09I mean, they're going to be, I mean, they love the Tash.
10:11Well, you did look better with the Tash, it's got to be said.
10:13Well, you know, I had to go.
10:15Did you not do that?
10:15Why did it have to go?
10:16I thought Tash was so good.
10:17Do you mean why?
10:17Why did it have to go?
10:17I don't have to run around with a fucking moustache.
10:19But you look so good.
10:21It's so hard to pull off.
10:23You look great.
10:23You look great with a moustache.
10:24Not for me, darling.
10:25You look like the best.
10:26I need to grow a beard, I need to hide these chins of mine,
10:28that's what I need to do.
10:29Look at that.
10:29Yeah, but not for me.
10:31Do you know what I'm saying?
10:31No, but it looks great.
10:32It's like every 70s porn star you've ever seen.
10:36Perfect look.
10:36Yeah, yeah.
10:37No, you look great there.
10:38But you're doing another series of Rivals, aren't you?
10:40You've just finished it, mate, yeah.
10:41Oh!
10:42Because that was so good.
10:43It was so good.
10:44It was so much fun.
10:46Yeah?
10:47It's amazing.
10:48It's amazing.
10:49It's great.
10:49I think the first six come out in May.
10:52But, yeah, I mean, it's so much better this time.
10:55We're really exploring, you know, all this bollocks,
10:58which is Freddie and Lizzie.
11:00Yeah.
11:00I don't think you'll be able to watch much of it.
11:03Yeah, there was a scene on the last series.
11:05It must be weird.
11:06If you're watching your father in an act of, let's face it,
11:08passionate lovemaking, with a stranger.
11:10With a moustache.
11:11With a moustache.
11:12I don't like, yeah, the lovemaking I don't watch.
11:15And what do you do?
11:16Do you just turn it off off?
11:16It's not really lovemaking either.
11:17I'm not going to lie.
11:18It's filth.
11:19You know what I mean?
11:20It's like...
11:22Yeah.
11:22Yeah.
11:23Yeah, I can't tell you.
11:24Probably best not to go there.
11:25It's like he's at the Winter Olympics.
11:27Yeah, you know?
11:29But do you warn Danny in advance when there are scenes
11:32that they come up?
11:32Do you say maybe don't watch this one?
11:33No, of course I don't.
11:34I just sort of...
11:35It was the last one, they weren't that much.
11:37No, I got away with it last time.
11:37It was that final scene.
11:38I got away with it last time, yeah.
11:39I don't get away with it this time, let me tell you that.
11:42It's a bit weird, isn't it?
11:43It's part of the job.
11:44It's a weird thing to do.
11:45You've got to pay your council tax, you know?
11:48LAUGHTER
11:50Here's the exciting news.
11:51Jack is...
11:51I'll talk about this ballet one, but Jack's hosting the Brits again,
11:54which is on next weekend on ATV.
11:56And Jack is the best host that show has ever had.
12:00You are amazing doing that.
12:01We'll talk about that later.
12:02But the good news is Jack's going to be back doing stand-up comedy...
12:05Yes.
12:05..next year.
12:06Yes, yeah, yeah.
12:07OK, OK.
12:09There's the tour.
12:10It's going to be called Bad Influence.
12:12You can get tickets now, I guess, but it'll be January and February 2027.
12:15You started working on the material.
12:17Do you know what you're going to be talking about on stage?
12:18Yeah, yeah.
12:19I was on stage in a comedy club last night and I've started, yeah,
12:23writing the show.
12:24And, yeah, we'll just be kind of talking about all the stuff that's
12:26happened in my life since I toured last week, which is getting married
12:29and having a kid and, yeah, a lot's happened in my life,
12:32so I feel like I'm ready to get back up on stage and start...
12:35Are you nervous?
12:35Because you haven't done a big tour for quite a while, have you?
12:38You've been mainly acting, haven't you?
12:39Yeah.
12:40Yeah, yeah, so, no, there's definitely a few cobwebs to blow off
12:43and the first couple of times you get back up on stage you're like,
12:46I think I might be shit at this.
12:48And you sort of slowly, you know, rebuild your confidence
12:51and then start writing it.
12:53But I love it, I feel so at home on stage.
12:55You know, I really enjoy acting and I love being able to go off
12:58and make a TV show or a movie, but there's nothing that beats
13:02the thrill of, like, being on stage in front of a live audience
13:05and just being able to say whatever you want.
13:07It's the best.
13:08Well, you've done a lot of theatre, of course, haven't you?
13:10Yeah.
13:10Back in the day, do you miss doing that as opposed to TV work?
13:13It's very humbling, I'll tell you that now.
13:14I think I'm due it again.
13:16The last play I've done was fucking hell seven years ago.
13:19You shit your pants every night, there's no two ways about that.
13:21You have a very different way of describing things.
13:25It makes you feel alive, you know what I mean?
13:27It's like, it's nowhere to hide.
13:28The money's shite.
13:30Yeah.
13:30So it's not a monthly thing.
13:32I mean, stand-up's a whole different thing, for sure.
13:34Yeah.
13:35So, I've got respect for it.
13:37OK, so the exciting news is Danny and Danny are working together.
13:40They've worked together already on a show which they've finished
13:42filming.
13:43It's starting on Tuesday on Sky.
13:45It's called Dyer's Caravan Park.
13:46Yes!
13:48OK.
13:49You can guess what it's about from the title, I think, but tell us
13:52what prompted this and what the story is.
13:54So, yeah, I used to go to...
13:55That was my thing, you know, and I used to love it in the 80s.
13:58I realised when I got involved, you know, how difficult it was,
14:01you know what I mean?
14:02I started the show resenting it a little bit.
14:04Really?
14:04I thought, what the fuck have I signed up for?
14:05Why?
14:06Because I was busy doing Rivals.
14:07I was shooting Rivals five days and I'd come back on a Friday
14:09and then Saturday and Sunday we were doing lays down
14:11and I just thought, oh, no, this is really...
14:13This is real.
14:14I mean, this is no bollocks about this.
14:16Like, so, I made a lot of mistakes.
14:18Yeah, you did.
14:19Well, not that many, but...
14:20Well, you weren't good at gardening at all, really, were you?
14:23You weren't, yeah, you did...
14:24We've got Mark up there, who's a great lawnmower.
14:26Yeah.
14:28You all know these people are, by the way.
14:29I know.
14:30It's so great.
14:31It's so great.
14:32It's a lot of fun to watch.
14:33I'm really enjoying it.
14:34I've only seen the first four.
14:35I don't know how many there are in this series.
14:37Well, let's have a look at the clip.
14:38This is called...
14:39The Dyer's Caravan Park.
14:40OK, and it's on Sky...
14:42Have a look at this.
14:43Where would you start, Jim?
14:44What's the old, uh...
14:45Wherever you want, really, mate.
14:46Go crazy.
14:47I mean, I'm fucking desperate to smash that window.
14:49Not glass.
14:51Well, I...
14:53Come out, it's the old bill!
14:54We usually, uh, take it off of a screwdriver.
14:58Gently.
14:59You've just made more work, but it's fine, mate.
15:01It's a start.
15:02Let's take this little thing off.
15:03Come on, touch up.
15:05Get up there, you fucking...
15:07Get up there.
15:08What?
15:09Just grab something.
15:10You know what I'd like?
15:11Smashing things.
15:13Give it a club.
15:15Ridiculous, that works.
15:17So, I've not got muscles like you.
15:21I don't like that!
15:23I feel like I'm robbing someone's ass.
15:25I'm not strong enough.
15:26Of course you are.
15:26You're a strong, independent woman.
15:28I've told you.
15:28I don't like it.
15:29I love this.
15:30Just go crackers, you know?
15:33Mug.
15:35You're getting amongst it.
15:36You're getting amongst it.
15:38You're getting amongst it.
15:39Yeah.
15:39You're rolling up your sleeves.
15:40You're doing the work.
15:41You're a reality superstar because you won Love Island
15:44and you won SAS as well.
15:46Oh, thank you.
15:46Amazing.
15:47Can we...
15:48I'm like...
15:49Can we...
15:50Can we acknowledge what she's done on that show?
15:53I sobbed my heart out.
15:54Yeah.
15:54I can't believe she'd done it.
15:56Yeah, it was amazing.
15:57So, three...
15:58There's only three of them left.
16:00Did you watch it, John?
16:01Clearly you didn't watch that of it, did you?
16:02I didn't watch it, no.
16:03I didn't watch it.
16:04I wanted to watch it.
16:05I wanted to watch it.
16:08I love Love Island because I was exchanging texts with you
16:10when Daddy was on Love Island, wasn't I?
16:12Don't you remember?
16:13Oh, shit, yeah, you was.
16:13It was a long time ago, John.
16:14Jesus Christ.
16:15Do you watch it?
16:16Yes.
16:17I do watch it sometimes.
16:18I used to be part of a Love Island WhatsApp group.
16:21Stop it.
16:22I did.
16:22Is that age-appropriate?
16:27They need a voice.
16:29They need a calm voice at the top of it all.
16:31I think that's the perfect time to take a break.
16:34So, don't go away because up next we'll be joined
16:37by the fabulous Patrick Dempsey.
16:39See you in a couple of minutes.
16:50Welcome back to the show.
16:52Let's get my next guest out.
16:53I'm so excited to see a fantastic actor.
16:55Of course, he was the star of Grey's in that.
16:57Let me be.
16:57He can now be seen in the brilliant Memory of a Killer.
17:00It is Patrick Dempsey.
17:09Thank you, sir.
17:12Let's go to the session.
17:14It was very good.
17:16All right.
17:17Thank you, thank you.
17:17I have to say you looked great in the mustache.
17:20It's lovely to have you back on the show.
17:22Thank you for joining us.
17:23Thanks for having me.
17:24and i believe congratulations are in order uh because since last time i saw patrick last
17:28time we saw you here uh you have been crowned people magazines sexiest man alive
17:38well how did that feel i was quite shocked at my age to be nominated and uh to get it
17:44because you're what 74 now 60. i just turned 60. well you just turned 60. you look amazing
17:49for 60. holy cow but you've been nominated in the past of course haven't you yeah i was a
17:55bridesmaid for about 10 years in a row and who who did you lose out to because i bet
17:59you know much everybody well you've got it now and that's what counts and it is i mean you know
18:03because you are you're one of those people who i'm not just saying this you appear to get better
18:06looking every year my wife's a makeup artist it helps tremendously fantastic yes that's what you
18:10need yes indeed um okay uh danny you were nominated uh for sexiest male at the 2014 it's not the
18:17same
18:17class but you were nominated so why are we bringing it up john well i want to know 2014 with
18:23the
18:23british soap awards yeah yeah and you didn't win danny mack won no i got nominated 14 time not for
18:30sexiest male and i never won one on that soap awards right right so no i'm all right i've had
18:35a good
18:35run with all that but i've nicked a bafta yeah you got a bafta yeah uh no i don't oh
18:39okay fine i am
18:39presenting though i'm presenting one yeah but he's sexy look at him let's ask jack have you ever
18:47been considered sexy what have you ever been considered for sexy award no i won the 2015 rear of
18:54the year never never the face wait is that a real award that is a genuine award really congratulations
19:01no i didn't win it oh were you nominated or you just put your own name in the hat no
19:06no no no i didn't you
19:07can self-nominate career of the year i just send in a picture or maybe you do with the whatsapp
19:12groups you're in danny little danny is it weird knowing your daddy's considered a sex symbol no i
19:24think it's i've been so when i remember when i first started school everyone used to start to me
19:28and i didn't really know how to respond to it good on you you know well cheers back you so
19:33fucking pity party here being nominated is like amazing you know like yeah just because you didn't
19:39win it doesn't matter it's about taking part it's a big part of the game really yeah right so you've
19:44got to take it on your chins yeah you might get it at 60. 10 more years oh dad look
19:48at his head over
19:48here look um we were talking earlier about jack's getting married and we talked about danny's and
19:54i met your lovely wife downstairs you just mentioned her jillian and you've been married how many years 27.
19:5827 years congratulations that is beautiful thank you and she's lovely and charming yes uh memories
20:06from your wedding day what was that like uh not much well we had we we were there was a
20:10lot of
20:11alcohol consumed good but the problem was i recommend you're you're getting married soon yeah yeah do not
20:16let your photographers drink the problem was ours were so intoxicated that we didn't get one single
20:22picture and everything that we did get was blurry and the best ones were all the ones in sort of
20:28the
20:28cameras that you left on the table and that was from a friend of ours who just snapped it with
20:32their camera it was a disaster so don't do it yeah it's hard to believe it was 27 years ago
20:39yeah
20:39my children now my daughter's turning 24 this week my twins twin boys are now 19. oh wow it goes
20:47by very
20:47quickly yeah do they like your work do they watch your tv work your films do they enjoy what you've
20:51done
20:51they're they're very direct with their opinions um you know they have the same situation that you did
20:57because you know the the character that i play on grey's anatomy a lot of people liked and they didn't
21:02quite know how to handle that um you've mentioned grey's anatomy of course and we should talk about
21:06when i i've got a confession make when i last interviewed you and i was talking to you about it
21:09and i hadn't really watched the show okay and then i started watching it so i met you and i
21:14liked you
21:15and i have now it's almost i've watched almost every single episode there's only four i haven't
21:20watched you know how many episodes they've brought out so far up to date i think there's something
21:24like 400. 458 right i did 261 i believe well i've watched 454. that's more than i did i didn't
21:32watch it that much that's nearly 20 solid days of my life and you only missed four so that you
21:40could watch the four episodes of danny dies caravan well it's a great show what a great thing to be
21:50part of um yes now the character you played derrick shepherd yes aka uh dr mcdreamy mcdreamy yes
22:00what's the uh the weirdest time or place that someone has referred to you as mcdreamy
22:08there was a gentleman when i was in the bathroom who had said something to me
22:13and i was quite shocked but he said do you mind if i take a picture for my wife and
22:17i was like
22:17not right now but thank you that was probably one of the weirdest times i'm so sorry i was a
22:23little
22:23starstruck she asked i should have waited i should have waited but it's a weird thing that about playing
22:31a doctor and being known as a doctor you know because i i would probably trust you more than
22:36my gp right now right sure and did you come away thinking you knew medical stuff just from having
22:42performed as a doctor i might i remember when my daughter was very young she had fallen she had
22:47split her head open we were in a rural community i went into a local hospital and i wasn't quite
22:53sure
22:53about the doctor i wasn't really sure he was going to be able to do the stitches and i said
23:00you know
23:00why don't we do the liquid glue and he's like you're right let's do that wow and i felt like
23:06okay i diagnosed the problem i'm very good it was a skull injury i was a neurosurgeon i was right
23:12in
23:13my element you were the best news and i assisted in the procedure because i wasn't sure there's
23:17i didn't want her to have you know a scar yeah hopefully that was reflected in the bill when you
23:21finally got it no it was not hopefully he paid you um one of the things i want to talk
23:26about your
23:27wasting because i'm really interested in your love for that but i also want to mention one of the
23:31things i love about you is i know how much you give back and i want to ask you about
23:35the dempsey
23:35center which you set up yes the dempsey center was inspired by my mother's cancer journey she had
23:40ovarian cancer over 12 reoccurrences and there was this program called uh you know it was basically
23:48wrap around care taking care of people who've been impacted in cancer by cancer and that's what it's
23:52about the dempsey center is that was inspired by mother we don't treat the disease we treat the
23:58person holistically and there's also a wonderful place here the maggie's it does the same here in
24:04london i believe here in london and around the country that does similar work um and you know you
24:08come out of uh the surgery and your your treatment you may be cured but you're not healed and that's
24:15where we come in if anyone here is a cancer survivor i'd love to say congratulations i don't know for
24:21anybody here which is great um and it's very scary and after the treatment the real healing begins and
24:31that's what it touches so many people's lives unfortunately but actually to know that there's
24:36organizations like yours and i know and it's all free the service effort all the services are
24:40approved provided at no cost well that's lovely of you it's really it's wonderful let's talk about
24:44your wasting a bit because i know i mentioned earlier on that that's kind of am i right thinking that's
24:48the first love of your life a bigger love than acting even i did le mans four times and how
24:53long
24:53is the endurance race uh 24 hours 25 hours non-stop driving yes well you have three drivers so you
24:58do different stints yeah wow jack i believe can't drive why it's a life choice okay some are born to
25:08drive
25:08others are born to be driven
25:17i've tried i've tried i've tried and i really have to i hate that i can't drive and now i'm
25:21a parent as
25:22well it feels so emasculating and i need to now that i'm a father otherwise school runs yeah i know
25:29exactly i'm never going to see her at boarding school if i don't learn to drive
25:40patrick have you stopped racing now uh i have because of the show well let's talk about memories
25:45of killing you just mentioned it's a show they they don't let you drive fast away from it but they
25:50let you drive on screen right i was watching it and i thought okay i know one of the reasons
25:54you did
25:54this is because you want to do these fast racing scenes the chasing yes absolutely uh i've managed to
25:58see the first four i think only the first three have actually dropped but tell us what it's about
26:01for those who haven't seen it yet why do you only watch four episodes it's more than i've watched
26:09of any of your show um this is genuinely how friends i feel like it's like couples therapy we're in
26:19right
26:19now we're working through this um it's about a uh he's double life uh he's an assassin and at the
26:28same
26:28time he's a suburban dad who's a traveling salesman and he also has early onset dementia which is an
26:35amazing twist in this because his brother also has it yes more advanced and so he's seeing what might
26:40become of him let's have a little trailer this is on prime video now it's called memory of a killer
26:44have a look at this so what do you do i sell photocopiers my mind it's getting worse
26:58you work from me royalties everything i think my dad seemed a little off lately your father always
27:05seems a little off
27:15you mentioned though because i guess primarily people would think of you because he was quite a
27:19romantic character in gray's anatomy and because early on in your career it was a lot of romantic
27:25comedies yes are there other genres that you would want to do that people would perhaps be surprised
27:29to see you in um you know i haven't done a western i think it'd be fun to do a
27:33western yes but i can't
27:34ride a horse see can you ride a horse oh yes that is where i come into my own that's
27:42how i plan to do
27:42the school run on a horse so we're going to take a break but don't go anywhere because we'll be
27:48joined
27:48out here by rebecca lucy taylor who's been nominated for artist of the year at the brits and she'll be
27:53performing at the end of the show as well so don't go away welcome back to the show let's hear
28:08my next
28:09guest out there she's one of the most exciting british musicians of the last few years it is the
28:23fabulous self-esteem
28:37i feel i feel wrong saying self-esteem because of course that isn't your name you're actually
28:41gonna be rebecca isn't it yeah uh so do i call you rebecca i can call you rebecca to chat
28:44yeah please
28:45it was a mistake to call myself somewhere else really why did that come about why did you start
28:49performing your self-esteem uh because i'm pretentious and i i didn't have any self-esteem
28:57when i started it and i would say now i have almost too much so you know it was very
29:02manifesting i'm
29:03gonna call my next band uh yeah loads of money or uh or like parents happy with me your parents
29:11must be
29:12happy they are very i'm joking my mom and dad love it i was gonna ask you about people who'd
29:16influence
29:16you and people who then you discover have heard your music so i know there was one person in particular
29:21that you grew up admiring and then you found out that they'd been listening to you yes i'm trying to
29:25think of a joke really quickly my dad um no uh madonna came to my gig that was wow yeah
29:31i mean it was
29:32amazing and she is very much why i yeah like i got into her i sort of you know you
29:38go in your deep
29:38dives and i got very very into her and it was a big catalyst of why i left the band
29:42i was in and
29:43why i went solo so the night she came to my gig i thought oh because celebrities are always exciting
29:48i'm very excited i i have to respect to everyone else but i'm so excited i love you i love
29:56you you're
29:56like the yeah you're i'm not about to say she would not stop talking about you you're a fan of
30:00little
30:01danny as well though oh my god yes the great the great i i'm a big island head i love
30:06i love love
30:06island it's my very i'm sorry i feel no don't don't worry about it that's fine i'm fine i'm all
30:12right
30:13i'm good look at his head of air he's all right what about low self-esteem
30:24i'm a big fan of your work when you announce me as the winner yeah i'm reading out your name
30:32how are you going to introduce self-esteem she comes on stage because you're actually you're often
30:35getting in trouble with the the record labels and the acts don't you when you bring them on stage
30:39because your jokes are quite you know pretty hard-hitting some people yeah i mean most people
30:43are pretty good about it but every now and again you do get someone that kicks off i had one
30:47guy
30:47that actually went over and changed the autocue wow yeah he was he was adamant that i introduced him
30:55as one of the biggest rock stars on the planet and i was like obviously i'm not doing that because
30:59you know it would be libel i could i can't i had some joke which he didn't approve
31:05of and then he was he was found in the in the autocue trying to delete it and put in
31:11the biggest
31:11rock star on the planet because he didn't want me to introduce him as the zen pick jonathan ross or
31:16whatever i had like that well let's face it no one wants to be introduced like that
31:22rebecca what was it like for you when you first got recognized by like fans in the street because i
31:26know you spent a long time working hard to get where you wanted to be so that must have been
31:30a pretty
31:31exciting moment well yeah i don't really get i've got a sweet spot of sort of like i'm not very
31:36famous
31:36but i like i get to do what i want to do which is really nice but um well i'm
31:41not famo am i i don't
31:42know you are well thank you jonathan ross here i am yeah i'll win the jungle next
31:48season would you go any of those things have we been asked to do any of them uh i get
31:53asked but
31:53i know for a fact i'm the lowest price point so when i feel like the highest price point yes
31:59i shall
32:00do it because i'll need a new conservatory roof no you're bad patrick have you ever done
32:10any reality tv would you uh i know we've just met but i don't think you need to
32:20unless they do a celebrity naked attraction
32:25it's just no i have no desire actually okay
32:29do you i did celebrity traitors oh yeah danny yeah is it true that you are doing celebrity
32:37traitors because your name's come up a lot in the press that's absolute bollocks i don't know why
32:42i don't know why they're saying it i swear to you now i'm not even lying no one's asked me
32:46i'm not
32:47can you wait till i'm on it listen if they ask me i'll do it but no one's asked me
32:52no but if they
32:53ask you when you say is would you do it i like watching it see i'd i'd have a right
32:57laugh on that
32:58let's be real i'd want to be a traitor yeah yeah yeah yeah the thing is though come here i
33:02mean
33:02he fucked it up didn't he you need some time
33:06i think better than i thought but i'm thinking you're lying and that is exactly what a traitor
33:11would do listen i swear i'm not talking to me yeah but you wouldn't tell the truth would you
33:17it's not this is a good audition tape for him yeah yeah yeah this lying is impressive
33:23i swear oh you'll see when it comes on i'm not on it
33:33or is he um and danny are you going to do strictly again because you were in it before and
33:39you were
33:40i thought okay you're going to go all the way and then you had an injury of course yeah i
33:44hurt my
33:45thought i mean i'd love to do it again so you would say yes if they asked yes if they
33:49rung me i would
33:49answer the phone yeah yeah he didn't make it yes i was devastated it was it was hell for me
33:56when i
33:56hurt my thought i was so sad but survived sas who dares wins right
34:07she won sas who dares wins jonathan not that you'd know because you only watched four episodes
34:13do you know that everyone thinks i do every year every year my twitter absolutely blows up with
34:19people thinking that i'm on the mask singing because you guessed me every fucking video
34:23i was in a sauna the other day and this man looked over at me and he just went sloth
34:27i was like
34:28i didn't even know what you're doing Rebecca i went somewhere and this might be a beneficial
34:34evening for you and this might be a kind of like uh a good time to make this connection that
34:38you
34:39were hoping to get your mum or your parents a caravan i'm i'm mad for caravans oh yeah yeah
34:44we went to filey every year in this in a caravan it's i can't i don't feel so calm when
34:49i'm in them
34:49i'm never i'm never happier than when i'm in a caravan so my mum and dad i was like i'm
34:54gonna i'm
34:54gonna get so rich i'm gonna buy a caravan they're about 40k for some of them are 80 grand down
35:00there so
35:00so i found out quickly that they weren't going to get one any time after you pipe oh yeah nice
35:06one
35:07patrick have you been caravanning have you had a call them trailers trailers so i and yes uh caravan
35:13as you call them when uh i we would spend you know 15 16 hours on set i got tired
35:19of these little
35:20boxes that they put you in so i bought an airstream oh they're beautiful the silver ones yeah so i
35:24had a
35:24beautiful little airstream and they are just a work of art and then we also had uh one at the
35:30house
35:30that was restored from the 1950s and i love them i think they're they're just so cozy they're wonderful
35:37if you quit them and i don't know yeah they're a little off the ground right yeah well wouldn't that
35:44kiko biker jack have you ever seen the caravan yes the vip section of glastonbury
35:53have you been calavani yes i i had a very normal upbringing did you go calavani yeah once a year
35:58winter skiing in valdezare summer in canby island we did we went we went camping genuinely we went
36:06camping once as a family when i was a kid and we turned up to the campsite in devon my
36:11dad in his
36:12three-piece suit walked onto the campsite he took one look at the lavatories which he said were inhumane
36:17he then drove down the road checked himself into a bnb and we camped for the week he stayed in
36:22the
36:22hotel best holiday we've ever had so rebecca's not just a brilliant singer and a brilliant songwriter
36:34but also a brilliant actor on stage you were in cabaret here in the west end yeah uh and you're
36:39going to be back on the stage in the west end in teeth and smiles yes is that right now
36:43so tell us about
36:44this play uh it's the david hare play they did it at the royal court in 1975 helen mirren did
36:51it which
36:51is you know it's a bit intimidating no problem at all finally someone good doing it do you know what
36:58i mean no i'm joking i'm terrified um she's oh there's a picture of helen doing it how good is
37:03that
37:03so it's a revival i'm obsessed with the music being very sort of raw and real and
37:10um it's a moment in time every night you come to the theater we're not going to do it the
37:14same twice
37:14and so the the songs in it were they already there pre-existing or will it be your songs in
37:19this
37:19version i've written one new song for it for because of course uh the character of maggie i was
37:24like i just feel like she she'd have a song here as you said teeth and smiles is going to
37:29be back in the
37:29west end uh from the 13th of march to the 6th of june it's at the duke of york's theater
37:34and so you see
37:35your acting as well but you're singing on stage as well oh yeah do some songs so if you don't
37:39like
37:39the acting bit hang tight i'll do a song don't worry i'm sure both will be amazing it is it's
37:44brilliant
37:45and i'm so excited about it and it's such a it was obviously written a long time ago but it's
37:49very
37:50pertinent now to the sort of where we are in the world and uh i'm i'm very proud of it

38:38the show i'm still here with all my fabulous guests um okay so we've got lots to talk about jack
38:43i didn't
38:43really ask you much about the brits and we should say it's on itv on itvx next saturday at 8
38:4815. this
38:49is his sixth time hosting so you know you've done it right so that's got to be a record i
38:54would
38:55imagine uh what what do we have to look forward to tonight what's going to be the most exciting
38:58moments you think yeah i mean there's some amazing performances i mean personally i'm so excited harry
39:03styles back at the brits wow i had to send over a couple of ideas because the first few i
39:09don't think
39:10were were appropriate but yes uh he's doing a performance of his song aperture can you tell us one
39:16of the ideas you sent over that was deemed inappropriate uh there was one that was like me
39:22like trekking for days to try and find him and he'd been like living in a hut and he was
39:26all like
39:27he looked like hagrid and then it had me like shaving him maybe like a fantasy of mine but that
39:34got a
39:35hard no i wonder why yeah danny was it last year you were at the brits yes yeah and you
39:41well i can't
39:42remember something happened didn't you said something that kind of got a little bit i said
39:45was bleeped out for some reason i don't know why you know i presented one to uh it was something
39:50about keir starmer wasn't it yeah i think i called him okay yeah i'll do it yeah i'll do it
39:56okay
39:57i do apologize but uh i don't really no you didn't apologize i had to apologize
40:03you can move in my ear going please say sorry you're live on otv i imagine that's what the witch
40:07is
40:08about though yeah he's he's amazing i i was so great that he was there and was willing to drop
40:14c-bombs
40:15and cause a bit of chaos and also the problem is like most modern celebrities are a bit lame so
40:20you're you're trying to get it going and then you're just like you get nothing from them so
40:24then you go over to danny and the postman always delivers
40:34okay so jack the thing i'm looking forward to though is uh if your parents turn up on the red
40:39carpet as they did at previous brits here's a photograph of jack's mom and dad when they put
40:44on their finery for the brits pretty amazing pretty amazing yes no kenya and his wife they're
40:52dressed as kenya and his wife there which is amazing i hope your dad's still got that look
40:57going on uh what's the plan for this year do you know what your mom and dad have got could
41:00you stop
41:01lusting over my mouth she looks incredible i love they got involved she turned up like that last year
41:08and then this year after the grammys i woke up to a message from her and she sent me a
41:12picture of that
41:13chapel roan dress going what date is it this year no way okay well here's in case you don't know
41:19i'm sure that's the chapel one and it was sort of held up by it looked like piercings although i
41:24don't believe it was no it's attached to a piercing i'm actually wearing a an outfit by the same
41:29designer this evening this shirt is attached to my prince albert just your mum's gonna go in that
41:36well no she's threatening to but i did actually see her the other day she was over to babysit my
41:41daughter and i looked over her shoulder and she was trying to purchase this like um like see-through
41:47breastplate i was like what are you doing she was like i'm genuinely going to try and construct
41:51a chapel-run outfit to wear to the brits you know what more power to her i hope she does
41:56it'll be
41:56amazing that's not encouraging please danny danny you've got a new quiz show coming up haven't you
42:03yes it's called nobody's fault and uh i am doing it with emily ajax we're co-hosting there you go
42:09amazing from rivals and um what's the premise is it a bit like it's a bit like traitors yeah sort
42:14of
42:14be in the room and um they have to sort of work out who the smartest is ah so some
42:20people in it are
42:20sort of went to eaton a bit like these sort of mob and uh and some of them have never
42:26really been
42:26educated it's about it's about um so it's really about uh sort of sussing each other out and voting
42:34out uh you know who you think the thickest is that sounds that sounds you know i don't know
42:42it sounds it sounds brutal it's really good it sounds really brutal well we're nearly in the
