00:00:00Welcome to Match of the Dead.
00:01:00Liverpool's five defeats was already one more than they lost en route to their title
00:01:04and they have received some criticism along the way.
00:01:07Nottingham Forest were the only team to win at Anfield last season.
00:01:10Your commentator Steve Bauer.
00:01:14Liverpool have been beaten here just once in 22 league games since that famous Forest victory.
00:01:19They'll hope to use Anfield as the foundation for some much-needed immediate consistency.
00:01:25The champions are boosted by the return of Alisson in goal after an eight-game absence
00:01:29but can't call on Conor Bradley or Florian Witt because of injury.
00:01:33So Gakpo and Jones start as do both Izak and Kerkhez with Eketike and Robertson on the bench.
00:01:40Mo Salah makes his 300th Premier League appearance for the club.
00:01:44Nottingham Forest named the team that beat Leeds 3-1 last time out.
00:01:48Morgan Gibbs-White bids to score in three successive matches for the first time in his career.
00:01:53Callum Hudson-Odoi, the match winner here last season, is back as a substitute.
00:02:00So Liverpool, start of a packed schedule for them.
00:02:02The first of seven games in 22 days.
00:02:06No breaks now, full throttle.
00:02:08Gakpo against Savona and round the Italian.
00:02:13Still Gakpo and surely, what a save to deny McAllister.
00:02:23Might have been Selzy, might have been the defender.
00:02:25There's McAllister again.
00:02:26And Forest survive.
00:02:30I think this was a block by the defender to deny Alexis McAllister after this brilliant work from Gakpo.
00:02:37It is.
00:02:38It's Elliot Anderson.
00:02:40And that was a crucial block.
00:02:43Four points from nine so far.
00:02:45Plus a win and a draw in the Europa League.
00:02:46Very steady start to life at the club where he began his footballing adventure.
00:02:51Now Salah to skip into space.
00:02:56Still going, Mo Salah.
00:02:59And Kerkas just fell slightly behind the Hungarian.
00:03:05Couldn't quite sort his feet out.
00:03:08Vintage Mo Salah here in the build-up.
00:03:11Kerkas couldn't quite get his balance.
00:03:14Kerkas overrun that.
00:03:24Now Lovingham-Forest were looking for a foul there.
00:03:27By McAllister.
00:03:29On Sangare.
00:03:32Andy Madley wasn't interested.
00:03:33Liverpool trying to break.
00:03:35Gakpo doesn't get his foul either.
00:03:40James Bell in VAR is having a close look at this.
00:03:43And he has checked and cleared it.
00:03:55Izak.
00:03:58It's a boss lay on to his left and deflected over.
00:04:04Montelliot-Anderson.
00:04:07He's been heavily involved in defensive duty so far.
00:04:10Liverpool's pressure continues.
00:04:19Kerkas with the cross.
00:04:20All the way through to Salah.
00:04:24Murillo.
00:04:25This time in the way.
00:04:31Jesus for Forrest.
00:04:32Waiting for some support.
00:04:36And Doi was trying to offer it.
00:04:38But Forrest not only have relieved the pressure.
00:04:41But they've got their first corner of the game in the process.
00:04:46Heavy touch from Canate.
00:04:49Elliott Anderson with it.
00:04:51Oh, it was an inviting one.
00:04:53Still might be.
00:04:53Here it is.
00:04:57Murillo.
00:04:59With just his third ever Premier League goal.
00:05:03To stun Anfield and the champions.
00:05:06Their first corner of the game.
00:05:08Results in the first goal of the game.
00:05:11Let's check this.
00:05:12In from Anderson.
00:05:13Endoy.
00:05:15In front of the goalkeeper.
00:05:16Is he onside?
00:05:17That's what VAR will look at.
00:05:20Very smart finish.
00:05:22From the central defender.
00:05:24Is Endoy impeding Alisson's view?
00:05:26He appeals straight away.
00:05:27The Liverpool goalkeeper.
00:05:28Well, James Bell has looked at it.
00:05:34And he confirms the goal.
00:05:36And Nottingham Forrest.
00:05:38Lead 1-0 at Anfield.
00:05:40Now, this will be interesting.
00:05:41Because we know 13 days ago what Liverpool's gripe was at the Etihad.
00:05:48With that man involved.
00:05:50And Arna Slott will point to an identical situation.
00:05:55When Van Dijk's goal didn't stand.
00:05:57But Murillo's does.
00:05:58Here comes Forrest again.
00:06:05And Kerkhez sliding in.
00:06:08To halt the pros.
00:06:09Going to serve Dan Endoy.
00:06:16Sangares cross.
00:06:17Jesus!
00:06:192-0!
00:06:22Liverpool appealing for handball.
00:06:24Andy Madley has cut Forrest short.
00:06:27And he's denied another Brazilian a goal.
00:06:32Ooh.
00:06:33Might need another angle to see if that hits hand or chest here.
00:06:37That looks like chest to me.
00:06:39Anfield holds its breath.
00:06:41Andy Madley has ruled this out on field.
00:06:45And now James Bell in VAR will have the final say.
00:06:49And VAR has confirmed that as accidental handball and no goal.
00:06:59But I think if Liverpool are rightly aggrieved with the first goal standing they might be slightly fortunate with the second goal not.
00:07:08Salah has got away from Williams this time.
00:07:09Salah has got away from Williams this time.
00:07:12He's got McAllister in support.
00:07:14Went alone.
00:07:15And Sells made absolutely sure it is near post.
00:07:19Had a squeeze at home at that near post.
00:07:22Gave the goalkeeper the eyes.
00:07:25So Nottingham Forrest get us underway in the second half.
00:07:28Yet to win away from home in the Premier League this season.
00:07:32Leading the champions who themselves are behind at half-time for the eighth time in the last 11 games.
00:07:41And incidentally I haven't won any of those previous seven.
00:07:45Savona has crossed straight away for Forrest here.
00:07:51Dominguez.
00:07:56Back to Anderson.
00:08:02There could be danger here.
00:08:04There is.
00:08:05Oh, Nottingham Forrest have scored.
00:08:0739 seconds into the second half.
00:08:12And it's Nicolo Savona.
00:08:14The Italian.
00:08:16Who silences Anfield.
00:08:19He's added to his first goal for the club against Manchester United.
00:08:24By scoring against Liverpool.
00:08:27And their summer signing from Juventus.
00:08:29Cannot believe it.
00:08:31Nico Williams got around McAllister.
00:08:34Pulled it back.
00:08:34And the full-back couldn't believe his luck.
00:08:39And Nottingham Forrest are halfway.
00:08:42To back-to-back league wins at Anfield.
00:08:45For the first time since 1963.
00:08:48Liverpool nil.
00:08:50Nottingham Forrest two.
00:08:51Lovely touch from Saboslai.
00:08:58It's Salah.
00:09:01And it's wide.
00:09:03Couldn't mark his 300th Premier League appearance for Liverpool.
00:09:07With an all-important goal back.
00:09:10That look says it all.
00:09:12Jesus.
00:09:16With the hold at play that forces the free kick.
00:09:21And Slott's latest roll of the dice is the 17-year-old.
00:09:26Rio N'Gamara.
00:09:29It is Liverpool's number 17.
00:09:32Curtis Jones.
00:09:34That makes way.
00:09:35Angamara's fifth Premier League appearance.
00:09:42Hutchinson for Forrest.
00:09:45Might have a shooting opportunity.
00:09:47Good save from Alisson.
00:09:49Gibbs-White.
00:09:503-0 Nottingham Forrest.
00:09:53Morgan Gibbs-White.
00:09:55Scores in three successive league games for the first time in his career.
00:10:01And piles more misery.
00:10:03On Arna Slott and the champions.
00:10:08Amari Hutchinson.
00:10:10At the heart of it.
00:10:11He drew the save from Alisson.
00:10:13And then Gibbs-White.
00:10:14Alive.
00:10:16Cool.
00:10:16And clinical.
00:10:18To sweep it home.
00:10:19What a scoreline from the team that started the weekend.
00:10:23Second from bottom.
00:10:24They are heading for back-to-back league wins at Anfield for the first time since 1963.
00:10:37It's broken to Salah.
00:10:40They're queuing up here.
00:10:41Forrest still got in the way.
00:10:43It's another day at Anfield for Nottingham Forrest to remember.
00:10:55This time under Sean Dice.
00:10:57who piles more misery on Arna Slott and the reigning champions who've now lost six of their last seven Premier League games.
00:11:07Liverpool 0-0 Nottingham Forrest 3.
00:11:10I must ask you about 1-0.
00:11:1213 days on from the Etihad.
00:11:14Did you have a thought that it might have been similar to Andy Robertson?
00:11:18Oh, I don't know.
00:11:20The thing I heard was that it wasn't off-site.
00:11:23So, yeah, if it's not off-site, there's nothing to debate.
00:11:27So, yeah, after a half an hour, I think we were a better team.
00:11:33We were creating, creating.
00:11:34But then, yeah, the game completely changed by that set piece, because the hour afterwards, yeah, we were maybe trying, but hardly created any chance.
00:11:43And I tried a few things that didn't work out, and that's why I say, in the end, if things go well or don't go well, it's my responsibility.
00:11:50We were just not good.
00:11:51Good in terms of the battles, the challenges, the second ball fight, too rushed.
00:11:59So, it's a very, very difficult situation at the moment.
00:12:02Eight goals in the league under you, the great entertainers.
00:12:05Well, as if by my cheek.
00:12:09No, I don't think it's quite that easy.
00:12:10I like them boring 1-0s, trust me, them clean sheets, them 1-0s, they'll do me.
00:12:13But, no, it's great for the fans.
00:12:15It's another step, though.
00:12:16I reminded the players, they said another day off tomorrow, I said, I don't think so.
00:12:20They know, they're learning quickly.
00:12:21What's he had you doing to put in a performance like that today?
00:12:25Defending.
00:12:26A bit of running?
00:12:27Yeah, running, defending, all the hard stuff.
00:12:31Not the pretty stuff, but, listen, it works.
00:12:34And we showed that today.
00:12:36Forest, isn't it?
00:12:37That badge, isn't it?
00:12:37Never got a chance to play in the kit.
00:12:39I'm certainly wearing it now.
00:12:40Well done today.
00:12:41Cheers.
00:12:41He's loving it.
00:12:43The hard work is evidently paying off.
00:12:45Back-to-back wins in the league.
00:12:47Just the fourth visiting side to win a Premier League game at Anfield by three goals.
00:12:51And they took advantage of so many of the weaknesses that Liverpool have that Virgil van Dijk spoke about there.
00:12:57Yeah, they did.
00:12:58And I think that's a concern when your captain's speaking like that about the players lack of a fight and not winning second balls and winning the challenges.
00:13:06But if we have a look here at how Nottingham Forest prepared themselves against Liverpool, they allowed Liverpool to come on to them early on, as we see here.
00:13:16And they were sucking Liverpool into traps all afternoon.
00:13:20And then, as we look here, the ball gets cleared out of the box.
00:13:24Forest winning the second ball.
00:13:25And now running forwards, running off the back of the Liverpool players with pace, making it difficult for Liverpool.
00:13:31Liverpool not getting back quick enough.
00:13:33And then Canarte actually gets there.
00:13:34He's in a good position, but sloppy.
00:13:37Kicks the ball out for the easy corner.
00:13:39And then from the corner, Liverpool are tied to the Forest players.
00:13:44But then as the ball comes into the box,
00:13:48Morelo, he's just hanging around the back here.
00:13:53Van Dijk gets a bit of a head on it.
00:13:55It falls to him.
00:13:56He's got a lot of space, a lot of time in the penalty area.
00:13:58And it's a really good finish.
00:14:00And then here from a throw-in, again, it's sloppy.
00:14:04You look at Jesus in the box.
00:14:05He's just pulling off the back of Canarte.
00:14:07He makes a little movement, gets across the front to him.
00:14:09And he's very unlucky that he didn't get another goal from this.
00:14:15Again here, Forest running off the back of Salah here.
00:14:19McAllister gets sucked out.
00:14:20He has to get out then to try and get on the ball.
00:14:23This is 30, 35 seconds into the second half.
00:14:28Cut back into the box, 2-0.
00:14:31Forest in a very comfortable position.
00:14:33And then here you see Arnie Slott, as he's mentioned after the game,
00:14:36he tried to change rope.
00:14:37He tried to make changes to try and get Liverpool back into the game.
00:14:40But you see they're switched off.
00:14:42They're not concentrated.
00:14:44They're not talking, not communicating with each other.
00:14:46And Forest play a quick free kick.
00:14:51Hutcherson has loads of space.
00:14:52Hutcherson, they don't get close enough to him.
00:14:54They allow his pick-up speed.
00:14:56He runs into the box.
00:14:57Gets his shot off.
00:14:58And Gibbs-White gets the rebound, 3-0.
00:15:00And a well-deserved victory for Nautical Forest,
00:15:02who I thought were excellent.
00:15:03And for that hour, as Arnie Slott says, they were comfortable.
00:15:07And to be fair to Arnie Slott as well,
00:15:08he didn't make a big thing of the first goal.
00:15:12And it's kind of Sod's law, isn't it?
00:15:15That two weeks ago, they have one disallowed in similar circumstances.
00:15:19And now this one's allowed.
00:15:22Yeah, and it's a goal.
00:15:23And in my opinion, two weeks ago, it was a goal.
00:15:25And you're looking at this and you're saying,
00:15:27well, you know, there's no debating whether
00:15:29in front of Becker, Alisson Becker, he's offside.
00:15:33But if we can zoom round, you're looking at the strike
00:15:37and the lack of movement from Ndoy on impact.
00:15:41Becker, Alisson can see the ball.
00:15:42He can see the strike.
00:15:44And from there, the main difference...
00:15:46There, he's got a view there, yeah?
00:15:47He's got a view.
00:15:48The main difference, as you look at Ndoy,
00:15:50he makes no movement whatsoever.
00:15:53And there's no chance of Alisson to make the save.
00:15:56There's not making an impact on him
00:15:58and his ability to make the save.
00:16:00That's one of the key things.
00:16:01The other thing is the lack of movement.
00:16:03Andy Robertson ducked.
00:16:05That arguably has a difference.
00:16:07In my opinion, they're both goals.
00:16:08But that one definitely was.
00:16:10You've both played in teams that have struggled.
00:16:13You've been in teams that have been successful
00:16:15and then struggled.
00:16:17There is no doubt Liverpool are struggling.
00:16:18When a captain of a team comes out
00:16:20and talks about losing battles and losing challenges
00:16:24and them not being on it and the second balls,
00:16:27is that a message for the dressing room?
00:16:30More than the fans?
00:16:33That's a clear message to his teammates, I think.
00:16:37Liverpool are a very good team
00:16:39and they're going through a very difficult moment
00:16:40at the minute.
00:16:41And Van Dijk is the captain.
00:16:43He is the leader.
00:16:44And that is a strong message to his teammates.
00:16:46And maybe to the players who haven't been there,
00:16:48who wasn't there last year,
00:16:49who didn't win the Premier League with Liverpool,
00:16:51that's a message that the standards at Liverpool
00:16:52need to be higher than what they are at the minute.
00:16:55It's basics.
00:16:56You give yourself the best chance possible
00:16:57and they're looking at the individuals in there.
00:16:59Are you playing well?
00:17:00Are you individually playing well?
00:17:02Before you even start,
00:17:03is everyone at the top of the game?
00:17:04And there's not many out there in a red shirt today
00:17:06that turn around and say,
00:17:07yeah, I was.
00:17:08And that's really fundamental basic of football
00:17:11is, are you playing quite well right now?
00:17:13And they're not.
00:17:14You talk about the newer players.
00:17:16It's also some of the established players
00:17:18that look to be struggling.
00:17:19At the moment,
00:17:20you highlighted the second goal.
00:17:22Salah, McAllister,
00:17:24it's the established players as well
00:17:25that look off it.
00:17:27Yeah, it is.
00:17:27And I think, you know,
00:17:28they've been going through a tough time
00:17:30for all season, really.
00:17:31Even at the beginning of the season,
00:17:33they won games,
00:17:34but they were struggling with performances.
00:17:36And I've said this, you know,
00:17:38throughout the season,
00:17:38it's them leaders in that session
00:17:40who have to pick the players up
00:17:41because if not,
00:17:43then, you know,
00:17:44we've seen it over the last few years
00:17:45with Manchester United
00:17:46and we've seen it last season with Tottenham.
00:17:48They can slip down the table.
00:17:50You don't panic just yet, do you?
00:17:52I go back three years.
00:17:53They actually had a worse start
00:17:54on Jurgen Klopp three years ago.
00:17:56They ended up finishing fifth.
00:17:58I know they weren't better than finishing fifth,
00:17:59but you don't panic yet.
00:18:01Well, they need to go back to basics.
00:18:02You look at what Sean Dyche was saying
00:18:04and you look at it and you say,
00:18:06look, the results haven't been good enough.
00:18:08Now, for the standards,
00:18:09the results weren't good enough
00:18:10for Nottingham Forest.
00:18:11They've gone back to basics
00:18:12and Nico Williams is there touching on it,
00:18:14saying, we're doing the running,
00:18:15we're doing the hard yards.
00:18:16Liverpool, it feels like,
00:18:17just have to go back to the basics
00:18:19and it's defending solidly as a group,
00:18:21defending as a unit.
00:18:23Individual responsibility isn't there right now.
00:18:26Is that the biggest problem to solve defensively?
00:18:29Yeah, I think the easiest thing to do
00:18:32when you're struggling
00:18:33is get back in a shape,
00:18:35get compact,
00:18:36and Liverpool are very open at the minute
00:18:37and easy to play against.
00:18:39Right, Manchester City had the chance
00:18:41to move within a point of lead as Arsenal.
00:18:43They play Spurs on Sunday.
00:18:44Newcastle sat just two points above the bottom three.
00:18:47Stephen Wyeth was at St James' Park.
00:18:4932 goals already for club and country this season
00:18:54inspires confidence of an Erling Haaland milestone today.
00:18:58However, only one of his quick-fire 99
00:19:01in the Premier League has come against Newcastle.
00:19:03The hosts make three changes.
00:19:05Tino Libramento and Lewis Hall return after injuries,
00:19:08replacing the absent Kieran Trippier
00:19:10and suspended Dan Byrne.
00:19:12Fabian Scherr comes in for Sven Botman.
00:19:14No need for Pep Guardiola to tinker
00:19:17in pursuit of a sixth-league win in seven
00:19:19to intensify the pressure they're applying.
00:19:22Theirs is the same XI that started
00:19:24the statement victory over Liverpool.
00:19:26After the international break served up arguably
00:19:33the week of the season so far,
00:19:35this is a good chance for some drama in the Premier League
00:19:37and nearly immediately from the very start,
00:19:42Gianluigi Donnarumma forced into a mistake
00:19:45and so close to being punished.
00:19:47Harvey Barnes loitering with intent
00:19:50but unable to get the better of the Manchester City goalkeeper
00:19:54who would have been culpable if he'd conceded.
00:19:58Home support encouraged by the opening exchanges.
00:20:02Now, though, a chance for City.
00:20:04Doku for Haaland, first opportunity.
00:20:09Uncharacteristically fluffed.
00:20:11This looked all set for a quintessential Haaland goal.
00:20:15Doku releasing him.
00:20:16Perhaps he looked up and was surprised
00:20:18to see Nick Pope had advanced as far as he had.
00:20:20An early flurry of activity at both ends of the field.
00:20:25It's been more considered since.
00:20:29Gimage Marese for Livramento.
00:20:31Here's Murphy.
00:20:33Voltemada's there!
00:20:36It's a sensational save from Donnarumma.
00:20:39Looks certain to be a goal.
00:20:42Worked this really nicely, Newcastle.
00:20:45Got their pieces into position.
00:20:46Voltemada got between defenders.
00:20:49Donnarumma down really sharply
00:20:51and then a big, strong hand was required as well.
00:20:56Here's Ruben Diaz.
00:20:59Doku.
00:21:00Foden.
00:21:01Good chance this.
00:21:04It looked like there might have been some heroic defending in there.
00:21:08It was Cher who reacted
00:21:09and it was Cher who was sliding in.
00:21:11And play is being delayed to assess whether or not
00:21:16Cher on Foden.
00:21:19Here's a challenge worthy of a penalty.
00:21:22Checked and cleared.
00:21:24Now by VAR.
00:21:27Cher relieved.
00:21:28Foden mystified.
00:21:30Bernardo Silva.
00:21:41Gradually City squeeze forward.
00:21:43Now Doku looks to explode into life.
00:21:45Doku.
00:21:46Drove the shot goalwards
00:21:48and appealed for a penalty
00:21:49without much support from those around him.
00:21:52Going to get another chance now.
00:21:53Doku.
00:21:56Tiao across
00:21:57to deal with the danger on that occasion.
00:22:00Jeremy Doku was about the only player in blue
00:22:06who thought that there was a case for a penalty here.
00:22:10It did strike the arm of
00:22:12Nalek Tiao.
00:22:14But considering the proximity to his body
00:22:17it's been checked and cleared.
00:22:21He's inducted into Newcastle United's Hall of Fame
00:22:23this week.
00:22:24Eddie Howe.
00:22:25He would dearly love to have a first ever
00:22:27Premier League win against Manchester City.
00:22:30to that particular accolade.
00:22:34Vultimada.
00:22:35Oh, that's brilliant from Brinigan Mares.
00:22:38Murphy in towards Barnes!
00:22:41A glorious opportunity.
00:22:44Murphy across the face of goal.
00:22:47The job presented to Barnes
00:22:49looked straightforward
00:22:50but instead he skewed it wide.
00:22:52Foden takes it on the turn
00:22:58and has options.
00:22:59Foden
00:23:01for Cherki
00:23:02for Foden!
00:23:03everything but the finishing touch.
00:23:08Foden the creator of the opportunity
00:23:11and the one that
00:23:12should have taken it as well
00:23:14but somehow was just ever so slightly off target.
00:23:19Further disbelief
00:23:20that this game remains goalless.
00:23:23Opportunities spurned at both ends of the field.
00:23:25Brinigan Mares.
00:23:26Oh.
00:23:35Brinigan Mares.
00:23:35Brinigan Mares.
00:23:36Barnes.
00:23:38Brinigan Mares.
00:23:40For Barnes!
00:23:42Yes!
00:23:42newcastle in front and they have cut through manchester city they're superbly
00:23:51jubilation around the majority of st james's park o'reilly just played it straight back to joel
00:23:59linton bruna gimares took over swap passes with barnes and once the ball was back in front of
00:24:05harvey barnes it was just the case of letting it roll into a position from which he could get away
00:24:11a first time shot and this time donnarumma couldn't get there eddie how amongst those celebrating
00:24:23guardiola's reaction has much perhaps to do with his defender's failure to deal with that
00:24:30as the chances that haven't been taken at the other end
00:24:35here's doku it's only the closest to him
00:24:42and it's off tl for a corner kick
00:24:44check his corner voltamada's there
00:24:57toku recovers the ball in towards harland ray and jerky fall as far as ruben diaz the response from
00:25:09manchester city instantaneous an unlikely goal scorer for manchester city but a very welcome one and it's
00:25:18squeezed helplessly through the legs of fabian share ruben diaz has his first premier league goal in very
00:25:27nearly four years since one here against newcastle in december of 2021
00:25:34newcastle's turn to try and turn it back around again
00:25:42and it's heading off the line donnarumma was beaten
00:25:55hall back into the penalty area barnes
00:26:01murphy really good cross
00:26:03and eventually in incredible it's harvey barnes once more
00:26:14sheer will to get the ball over
00:26:16the line
00:26:17newcastle united are back in front
00:26:20after the long wait for a goal in this game
00:26:23it has exploded into life
00:26:26voltamada's towering head up
00:26:28runikimara was in there i think manchester city think he might have been offside as he
00:26:33headed the ball against the crossbar or perhaps
00:26:37a suggestion that voltamada was applying downward pressure
00:26:41on the player marking him
00:26:43barnes just did what was needed stayed alive stayed alert
00:26:50check complete goal stands newcastle do lead again
00:26:54just to dot the i's and cross the t's from luigi donnarumma
00:26:59was cautioned in amongst city's protests about the goal
00:27:06newcastle resign themselves to soaking up pressure
00:27:09sarvino's cross beyond the reach of pope
00:27:14corner kick
00:27:14clodin's corner
00:27:25tin helped tom
00:27:26sarvino
00:27:29snatched at it
00:27:35newcastle have done it
00:27:37for just the second time in two decades
00:27:41they have beaten manchester city in a premier league game
00:27:45full-time at st james's park newcastle united to manchester city one
00:27:52we know how good they are and they proved today that they can be really dangerous and still very strong
00:27:58so to beat them i think should give us the confidence that we need and we need to try and
00:28:01use this result as a turning point in our season both home and away to get consistent results
00:28:05i don't think i was the most popular man at half time but um you know glad to make up for
00:28:10it in the second half with a couple of good goals and um it's probably the sort of fixture we need
00:28:14after a couple of bad results and and a break in and obviously the fixture list so um to to get
00:28:21the result we did against a top top team it gives you even more confidence than than a normal
00:28:25win it shows that when we do play at our best and we're at our top level we can compete with
00:28:29everyone you and your team seem particularly frustrated by the the second newcastle goal what
00:28:34did you feel in particular might have been wrong with that goal
00:28:37but it happened against bournemouth game happened today again so it worries and after
00:28:43var decide what they decide in the decision the first half and decision the second so
00:28:49they know perfectly did jan luigi feel he was impeded or was it somebody else otherwise i would not
00:28:54complain all right well we'll come on to some of those decisions in just a moment but there's been
00:28:59lots of analysis on manchester city in recent weeks about how they've created overloads through the
00:29:04middle and that's how they've dominated game so how did newcastle counter that yeah it was really
00:29:08interesting and they were terrific today they negated that but with one of their strengths which
00:29:12was the fullbacks and the wide men and how their mobility of livermento and hall from left back and
00:29:18right back allowed them to negate that and you're looking they look to press wide as well as high and
00:29:24you're looking at the direction of the press it's not just the first press but you're looking at this ball
00:29:29here livermento because he goes high and on dokku he's allowing that space in the knowledge to say i
00:29:37can cover that i can get there i can be aggressive tiao was brave he's up against harlem one-on-one
00:29:43and that allowed everybody to press and press wide which was the key thing today keeping the ball out
00:29:49the center of the pitch and keeping the ball away from manchester city's men again we're looking at
00:29:54livermento allowing that space in there and he's saying okay i can get there i can cut that out
00:30:00and from there can we get our wide men to go and play murphy was terrific all afternoon putting a
00:30:07wonderful ball arby barnes touched on it himself should have had a hat trick and then we're looking
00:30:11on the other side and barnes and hall hall had the energy until he went off and they went to back five to
00:30:18solidify he had the energy to get forward and then you go out you can recycle because you've
00:30:24got two men out wide you've got the options to play and carry on the overlap gives that bit of space
00:30:30and it is a terrific save a brilliant chance from voldemartha and then you go again in the second
00:30:35half the energy of livermento get forward doesn't receive it but it's a wonderful ball in and another
00:30:41brilliant opportunity and to cap this all off bars who did get the couple of goals he owes a big bit of
00:30:47gratitude to his teammate his man outside with him just his run just drags nunez creates that little
00:30:54bit of gap and then the link up play with bruno gemma rice he drives into that space it's a
00:30:59wonderful little layoff for a brilliant finish it was a brilliant afternoon for all four players of
00:31:04newcastle which means it's the tactically spot-on balls having their what you would probably say
00:31:08their first choice fullbacks but they're most mobile and the most in terms of both forwards and
00:31:14backwards they could get up there they could get in support they can really be brave off the ball as
00:31:18well let's deal with the contentious decisions then could phil fayden have had a penalty is this
00:31:23a penalty in your view i think it is yeah i think it's good play from manchester city docu getting
00:31:29in the pocket plays a lovely ball to phil found and from there you think he's maybe just snatched at
00:31:33it but from this angle you see he's stretching for the ball the defender comes across clearly doesn't
00:31:39take the ball and hits phil phone on top of his foot so i think that's a penalty so the considerations that
00:31:43the ref have to take into account is as follows uh where there is contact following an attacker
00:31:48either passing the ball or taking a shot at goal where the contact is inevitable or a consequence of
00:31:54momentum play should typically be allowed to continue where the contact is either reckless
00:32:01or serious foul play then a penalty kick should be awarded so you would say way that that is more
00:32:07reckless than it is inevitable or a consequence of momentum yeah it's reckless if you look at the
00:32:13moment of impact is the defender's leg is straight and stood so it's a straight leg and stood
00:32:18on phil phone's foot i think it's a clear penalty uh the handball not for me i think it's
00:32:25it's very close him and his arm isn't out his arm is still in by his body and yet he's got his hand
00:32:32facing up but it's very close to his body so i think it'd be very harsh to give a penalty for that
00:32:37okay you can see it on this angle as well the closeness of ciao to that shot from docu and the
00:32:43one that they were probably aggrieved about most but pep guardia didn't want to say they were aggrieved
00:32:48about most was whether this is a foul on donnarumma and you would say it's a goal and you're looking
00:32:54donnarumma and this is happening time and time again with goalkeepers now they're getting drawn in
00:32:58with all the players at the near post they rush across and you're desperately keen to get involved and
00:33:04it is so hard psychologically not to do that and donnarumma falls for it because he goes before
00:33:10barnes makes contact with him the offsides aren't offsides they're factual it's all fine but if you
00:33:15watch donnarumma he starts to go before barnes even gets involved with him if he stands still where
00:33:20vardy all heads the ball he would have caught it above his head just stand still it's so hard as a
00:33:25keeper to be brave and not get dragged into it he got dragged into it yeah there's a nudge that's twice
00:33:31now you've got to think well actually we've got to change donnarumma's got to change because that's
00:33:36that's the premier league all right west ham had won their last two matches bournemouth had lost both
00:33:41of theirs mark scott was at the vitality stadium
00:33:46bournemouth are hoping for more home comforts after those back-to-back defeats with the cherries four
00:33:52wins and a draw here in the league this season only bettered by manchester city they'll have to cope
00:33:58without clivert and semenyo today though due to injury brooks and krufi come into the attack while
00:34:04diakite and cook are preferred to milis savlevic and smith at the back if west ham are winners again
00:34:12it'll be the first time in almost two years that they've managed three in a row in the league they're
00:34:17also without some regular starters in pakatar and somerville who were replaced by igor julio and
00:34:24louis guillaume with this only the 19 year old second premier league star and his first since april
00:34:31as nuno switches to a back three
00:34:36hammered forwards by sanessi
00:34:40kruppi
00:34:43brooks evanilson was waiting
00:34:47and he's nearly made something of it picked up by alex scott promising
00:34:50and areola had to get in the way of that it's a bit sloppy this from the hammers allowing evan
00:34:57nielsen to eventually get there after tadibo won the initial ball
00:35:03antonio areola says he's not worried by recent reports claiming antoine semenyo's got a 65
00:35:09billion pound release clause that can be triggered in the first few weeks of the january window
00:35:14as he doesn't think the cherries are expecting to lose him
00:35:19wilson took that nicely hit it well and it's in a cracking goal from callum wilson
00:35:29the former bournemouth man gives the hammers the early lead with a superbly taken strike
00:35:35he's spoken this week about having the target of making england's world cup squad next summer
00:35:44this kind of goal might make thomas tuchel sit up and take notice
00:35:49and is west ham's renaissance set to continue bournemouth nil west ham united one
00:35:54quite a turnaround that nuno looks like he's engineering with the hammers
00:36:04here's true fair
00:36:08true fair caught off the ball but advantage played
00:36:11here's tavernier and it might be an advantage brooks should have made it one each
00:36:17groupies attempt to control it actually set up brooks nicely and he drags it wide
00:36:32halen wilson now upended so it's a west ham free kick
00:36:36drilled across towards jarrod bowen and it will reach him
00:36:49tadibo's in there wilson two dangerous and in calum wilson again
00:36:56two terrifically taken goals from calum wilson and nunos all smiles with west ham two up
00:37:03bowen kept it alive tadibo popped it further towards goal and then calum wilson hooked it into the goal
00:37:13a couple of expert finishes from the x cherry has put west ham well on course for a third straight win
00:37:25jimenez
00:37:26jimenez
00:37:28adams
00:37:30west ham noticeably a lot deeper in this second half but it's worked so far
00:37:34although that might change christie kept out by areola
00:37:43true fair
00:37:45way by fernandez back in from adams
00:37:47christie's hit on target but too close to the west ham keeper who made sure that he got enough in the way
00:37:58jimenez
00:38:01galloping forwards
00:38:02and evan nielsen
00:38:06is it a handball it is
00:38:09bournemouth penalty and a potential way back into the game
00:38:15all came about after a really positive run from jimenez
00:38:17evan nielsen's definitely onside looked like the chance had gone after his touch wasn't the best
00:38:23but killman then sliding in
00:38:27so his arm brushed the ball and bournemouth have a penalty
00:38:32thomas bramel only gave the spot kick michael oliver
00:38:36is now double checking and he says a penalty will suffice
00:38:41marcus tavernier against alphonse ariola
00:38:47scores
00:38:50the right way to take it in these conditions
00:38:53absolutely leather down the middle by marcus tavernier
00:38:58and bournemouth are back in business not much thought about this from tavernier
00:39:03wallop and it's bournemouth one west ham two
00:39:07christie handy pass for tavernier oh and surely what a save from ariola to keep out krupy
00:39:20that is astonishing from alphonse ariola look for all the world
00:39:27as though ellie krupy was going to make it to each
00:39:31but alphonse ariola got the vital touch to keep it out
00:39:34lewis cook
00:39:40senesi lovely pass unel tutu
00:39:46immediate impact from ns unel
00:39:51and bournemouth are back on terms
00:39:57on for little more than a minute ns unel has made it to each
00:40:02credit to senesi for the pass that was a beauty
00:40:06and it's a very composed finish from the substitute as well
00:40:11bournemouth two west ham two and what a climax we could have now
00:40:17true fair
00:40:18brilliant from true fair and not so good from wambusaka free kick and the yellow card for aaron wambusaka
00:40:32cook to take christie training ground routine doesn't come off but senesi has got it and got it in
00:40:38great save ariola and the rebound from tavernier clears the crossbar
00:40:44was that the chance for bournemouth to win it from two down
00:40:48well that didn't quite come off the way they planned but senesi kept it moving and tavernier should be
00:40:53finding the net from there well from two down his side have roared back into it and they'll actually feel
00:41:00disappointed not to win the game
00:41:02one misaka a little bit hesitant areola to the rescue for west ham again
00:41:12smith
00:41:15gusty conditions and his side whipping up a storm later on
00:41:18it's christie it's deflected and it's unal again and it's areola again it's a one-man wall that's
00:41:33stopping bournemouth taking all three points how many times has alphonse areola pulled off an important
00:41:40save and normally with his legs as well we should have won also i have to complain about the penalty
00:41:47it's a clear red card i don't understand why it's not red card because they say he scoops the ball
00:41:51with the hand and it cannot be a clearest chance to score evan ilson in the six-yard box against the
00:41:56keeper you know is i don't understand the decision or not to send killman out tough game a tough game
00:42:02for both teams i think uh in the first half we punished the bournemouth's mistakes and second half
00:42:08they punished our mistakes but um it was a good fight a good game we got the lead slip away from our
00:42:14hands but uh look we you knew that it was tough to come here at mormoz they are fantastic team they
00:42:20put you against the ropes um so positive we keep building and obviously for nsu now after what he's
00:42:26been through what a what a great story yes very happy for anis very long injury a second and time
00:42:32in acl in the same knee if we put him close to the opposition box normally he's a really good finisher
00:42:38no and today even he had another chance almost to score the third one but a good good news and i'm
00:42:44happy for him yes it was a really uh entertaining game and there was such a contrast between the
00:42:51first half and the second half the stats are startling from bournemouth's point of view to what
00:42:57they did in the first and the second half so what changed rob well there's a tale of two subs for west
00:43:02ham and one for bournemouth and you're looking at a tale of emphasis changing emphasis for west ham and
00:43:08we're looking at them in the first half they went to a back three this weekend you're looking at the
00:43:13three center backs and kilman eagle julio and tadibo kilman was kind of on a one-to-one situation with
00:43:20croupie and the other two dealt with evan nielsen really really well in the first half allowed them
00:43:24to be aggressive allowed them to be on the front foot and from there west ham could be quite offensive and
00:43:29direct in their counter-attack in play and again we're looking they're allowed to be aggressive on
00:43:34the front foot and really take control of the situation take control of the game and then from
00:43:41early in the second half this is only five six minutes into the second half so check goes up front
00:43:46and it was a change of emphasis of just to sit in and see the game out and the workload became
00:43:51greater and greater for the back three mistakes started to happen you've seen both of them deciding to
00:43:56go to evan nielsen kilman coming around and giving away the penalty and from there you're looking at
00:44:02unel coming on another center forward coming up making a difference the two center halves are doing
00:44:08the same job here against evan nielsen this is less than 60 seconds after unel's come on we can see
00:44:14kilman pointing out he's still got group he's saying there's an extra man here get across and mark him
00:44:20is the realization isn't there it's a fantastic ball in a wonderful touch and finish and it
00:44:26really was a tale of two halves west ham dangerous in the first half one shot in the second half and
00:44:33an absolute barrage i mean i mean i don't know if we're being generous including the one that nearly
00:44:38hit the corner flag as a as a shot i've got a point just give you another decision to look at whether
00:44:44max kilman is lucky not to get a red hair i don't think he was even booked for this yeah he's very lucky
00:44:50i think it's you know he gets himself in a position where he's trying to cover and he slides past the
00:44:56player and you see as we see on this angle here you see a movement with his right hand towards the ball
00:45:01and it's a penalty and it has to be a red card he's six yards out it's it's a clear goal's got
00:45:06opportunity so um it baffles me that that's not a record uh okay uh now burnley hadn't beaten chelsea at
00:45:14turf moore since 1983 so that was in the old second division billy hamilton scored twice in a 3-0 win
00:45:21you see there was football before the premier league guy mowbray watch this one
00:45:27it's not always been a comfortable place for visiting teams indeed burnley were unbeaten at home
00:45:32all last season in the championship but chelsea well they do enjoy a trip to turf moore they've won their
00:45:38last six here scoring 19 goals in the last five the burnley side is the same one that started at west
00:45:46ham two weeks ago as manager scott parker again comes up against a former club the same is true
00:45:52for midfielder leslie ugachukwu who joined the claret in the summer having only played 15 first team games
00:45:58for chelsea as he left stamford bridge liam de lapp arrived he scored a dozen premier league goals for
00:46:04ipswich last season but his only chelsea goal so far came at the club world cup perhaps today's the day
00:46:15an early start something that chelsea very much enjoying and have won all of their last seven
00:46:22saturday 12 30 kickoffs
00:46:28that's not a bad ball at all and it's kept alive but reese james was
00:46:33on hand standing in front of zian fleming oh what's sanchez done here
00:46:39the referee didn't see anything wrong play goes on with uga chukwu
00:46:45walker
00:46:51well the boos are burnley boos because peter banks has seen fit to stop the play
00:46:57scott parker's livid about that it was all down to sanchez rather rushed attempt to get the ball
00:47:03downfield that's why he's hurt and that's why burnley feel slightly aggrieved it's nothing to do with
00:47:09them well there's never a weekend goes by without a curiosity you've never seen before
00:47:17burnley
00:47:19arguing there that it was played by
00:47:23robert sanchez and it was in play when
00:47:24she'll never put his hand on it this was a curious one i think the red used common sense no they
00:47:35weren't restarting they were just putting the ball back to the place where it would be restarted from
00:47:39for correa still going courtesy of a fortunate ricochet or two gittens that's a lovely lift in
00:47:49and chelsea in front headed in front by pedro netto
00:47:53not a lot dubravka could do about that burnley are hoping that there may have been a hint of hand
00:48:02ball in the buildup that's the uh the basis of the discussion between josh cullen and referee peter
00:48:08banks was that where there may have been handball was certainly a bit of an ask about it from uga chukwu
00:48:15for the rest of the move it was well simply super from chelsea i didn't see a handball in there
00:48:25cracking ball across from gittens enzo fernandez then
00:48:29or was it by accident or by design that he left it never mind pedro netto profited
00:48:38scott parker will still believe that his team are in with a chance of getting something today
00:48:45it's getting the feeling that this has all been a little too comfortable for chelsea certainly in
00:49:09this second half needs something to just get them revved up a little bit more
00:49:15i think they will sort that out or should have done and has done in a roundabout way
00:49:20uga chukwu being held on to it's got to be a free kick and it will be a yellow card as well
00:49:30clear foul by joao pedro to prevent a promising or potentially promising burnley attack
00:49:39is hartman and there's fleming he's got in here he's had to wait an eternity for that chance today
00:49:52this is the premier league and when you get that chance you've got to take it
00:49:55this is brun larsen foster hartman andres santos with the block burnley have a corner burnley have belief again
00:50:09and it's going to be delayed
00:50:16and it's going to be delayed
00:50:16and it's going to be delayed
00:50:20was involved he had hold of esteve
00:50:27i'm sure they'll do it again
00:50:28brun larsen well this time he does kick it but the whistle's gone once more
00:50:37and the referee's patience has run out same players
00:50:41baddie ashiel yellow card how about a step no just baddie ashiel
00:50:46and that's why
00:50:49are getting involved now having a look to see if there's anything in there that constitutes
00:50:52a penalty there isn't
00:51:00here's hannibal nobody there easy for malo gusto and sanchez well should have been easy
00:51:10there he is pedro netto
00:51:12to find guillo
00:51:18guillo is taking on transebi and beating him and pulling it back for fernandez to seal the win for
00:51:24chelsea
00:51:33into the chelsea fans to celebrate
00:51:35there will have been quite a few lingering feelings of anxiety that they hadn't got the points won yet
00:51:44they have now
00:51:47pedro netto finding mark guillo guillo did brilliantly strength and determination to hold off tuanzebe
00:51:56into fernandez fifth goal of the season chelsea's second goal of the afternoon
00:52:01and it's burnley nil chelsea too
00:52:04i think we need this kind of win
00:52:06after the international break 12 o'clock in the morning you know burn away
00:52:11this type of pitch small pitch you know it's it's complicated so very happy with the
00:52:16with the result and with the with the performance it seemed quite a hard game to get going in
00:52:21is that due to the international break and plenty of players being away all over the world
00:52:26yeah i think it's definitely a factor um everyone comes from different places in the world and if
00:52:29to come back and play at 12 30 um on saturday is not easy and the first goal seemed to make all
00:52:34the difference to the pattern of the game you you played a key part in this tell us about your cross
00:52:39that led to it i looked up i seen enzo and pedro i'm at the back post i thought
00:52:43either of them are going to try and attack the ball so pedro got in and
00:52:47overall from where we were last week to to today i'm immensely pleased with that with the performance i say
00:52:52that lightly we've not won the game so of course i'm disappointed um but i see things in us where
00:52:57we learned from last week and we've improved definitely and we need to now maintain that
00:53:02that's the main message we have to maintain that performance and hopefully we can do that
00:53:07talk burnley in just a moment but how chelsea build up from the back is crucial
00:53:13to how they play and and and tossing was so influential for them yeah he's a chosen one since
00:53:19a long-term injury absentee of levi colwell and we're looking at him to say well who's going to
00:53:25progress it how are you going to progress it he was afforded time on the ball by burnley today and
00:53:30burnley didn't really want to commit they just wanted to cut off lines you see the front three
00:53:35really are cutting off lines so where's the space where's where's the options liam did lapped comes in
00:53:40short and the ball for netto's on and we've seen tossing afforded that time and space and to say
00:53:47where you're going to go what are the passes what are your options highlighting this one again burnley just
00:53:53looking at cutting off the options to him they know he's going to be the man on the ball he's the
00:53:57spare man this time it was the lap he didn't have a great afternoon he's caught offside for this one
00:54:03nothing particularly worked as he was up against the center halves cucuraya made the difference for
00:54:09him he roamed we've seen the lines being cut off cucuraya was in midfield he was going up front this
00:54:16time not up against one of the center halves found the space found that little bit of time for an option
00:54:23gittins with a wonderful bit of quality that made the difference within the game
00:54:28he dictated the play today scott parker not too disappointed with the performance he's
00:54:34talked about how important their spirit and togetherness is going to be this season
00:54:38the underlying numbers would suggest plenty of areas of concern though it would you be worried
00:54:45yeah i think i would be worried and i know they're on 11 points and so they've done okay from that
00:54:53point of view but you know when you look at the data and the stats and the numbers which is all
00:54:57going against them then i think if i was a barely fan i'd be a bit content okay uh two games in sunday's
00:55:03match of the day
00:55:15great save and then turned in by aronsson
00:55:18and five lives premier league sunday we'll be across all the action from midday you can listen
00:55:31to that on bbc sounds as well champions league returns midweek all the goals on the bbc sport
00:55:36website from 10 bbc one at 10 40 and bakaya saka is this week's football into followers follows us
00:55:43tonight where you can watch on the iplayer as you can if you missed the start of the show it's available
00:55:47now on our player along with highlights of every game now rob edwards took charge of wolves for the
00:55:52first time with them bottom and eight points from safety crystal palace their opponents and vicky
00:55:58sparks was at molyneux this job has always been the aim this is the dream so says rob edwards who
00:56:09enjoyed the best days of his playing career here and now returns for his fourth spell to take the
00:56:15manager's job on a permanent basis for the first time he makes four changes from the defeat at
00:56:20chelsea including a start for tolu arakadari alongside jürgen stran larsen up top palace who've
00:56:27won just once in their last five premier league games welcome back captain mark gay from injury
00:56:32jeremy pino also starts as cambo and lerman drop out
00:56:36and john philip mateta is in and the flag stays down and mateta misses
00:56:52well that is very unlike john philip mateta
00:56:57and you would have banked on him rolling that into the bottom corner
00:57:08water now starting to take crystal palace and that layoff from pino just ahead of mateta
00:57:14he will keep it alive munoz queuing up and beaten away by johnston
00:57:23camera with the effort and johnston with the smart stop against his former club
00:57:32andre forwards over the head of arakadari stran larsen goes down
00:57:38free kick says referee anthony taylor
00:57:44but he does catch john larsen and he's already on the yellow card
00:57:48and he may well be making that point of edwards
00:57:54well gomez to take it unorthodox and what a miss from creche
00:57:58well dean henderson did the job in his own fashion and creche scoops it over
00:58:13here's walton
00:58:14pino
00:58:19tetter's on the move it's behind him and met by sa
00:58:26another chance goes begging for crystal palace
00:58:28and sotty just doing enough to put off his mile aside
00:58:36come on let's flick on kittia
00:58:39out of it all by arakadari straight to margayi now pino
00:58:44that's a lovely back heel
00:58:46and kettia can't quite force his way through in the corner of sotty gomez
00:58:56and his delivery is short to pino
00:59:05wharton in space ricochet munoz with the opener for crystal palace
00:59:11and wolves are behind at molyneux
00:59:19and he's asking for a reaction
00:59:24nicely worked by crystal palace
00:59:27wharton with the effort is there a suspicion of offside there
00:59:30and if there was it might have been against gay who i don't think got involved
00:59:36what a finish for munoz
00:59:39super reactions
00:59:42no wonder he congratulates jeremy pino for his role in that
00:59:47wharton
00:59:47here's pino
00:59:54mitchell
00:59:56feed away by andre and gomez
01:00:00whang
01:00:02wharton pino oh he deserves that
01:00:05what a peach of a girl from jeremy pino
01:00:12he has shone for crystal palace this afternoon
01:00:17and caps that performance with something very special indeed
01:00:23his first premier league goal
01:00:25what a stunner and in a flash crystal palace lead by two goals to nil
01:00:37almost took himself out in the celebration there oliver glasner
01:00:42same old story for wolverhampton wanderers
01:00:46a familiar feeling at molyneux how on earth do they get out of this
01:00:55andre
01:01:00wolves give themselves a bit of hope
01:01:04it's more of warfare it's a great delivery and arias
01:01:08has made a real mess of it oh he couldn't have asked for a better chance
01:01:16it was on a plate
01:01:25here's mitchell
01:01:31divini
01:01:33pushed off it by totti oh and then munoz down
01:01:37right on the edge of the penalty area
01:01:42that is very close indeed
01:01:44so pat penalty area we do have munoz and venny from the edge of the box
01:01:52it's only now making his way into the area
01:01:57go instead for eddie and ketia oh that was close
01:02:04almost with thalus as third
01:02:08it was a tight game and we expected it they are very highly motivated um wolves
01:02:12uh team and then it was looked like okay who takes one of the few chances and and credit to my to my
01:02:20assistants for the adjustment in the set place because they played a completely different setup
01:02:25again we didn't know because it's a new manager we arrived in first half we struggled in our set
01:02:29place we had plenty but uh yeah clean sheet three points here at wolves so always good to start with a win
01:02:36it's never going to be a quick fix um obviously we're disappointed with the result today
01:02:41but we've got to try and build on the things that there was there were some glimpses there we created some big chances we we
01:02:45you know with there was moments there you look at the actual stats that there's not much in it
01:02:51um it's probably why they are where they are and why we are where we are right now at the moment and
01:02:56that's what we've got to try and reverse well oliver glasner praised their set of pieces but
01:03:01jeremy pino made them tick didn't he yeah he did and there's a lot of pressure on him coming into
01:03:06this palace team obviously he's coming as as a replacement for for ese obviously went to arsenal but
01:03:11i think he started the season really well um for crystal palace and we see today the the positions
01:03:17he was picking up and he's he's always in the in the middle of players he's never easy to mark for
01:03:23the defenders and here he's got the intelligence to to play the first time pass around the corner for
01:03:27mateta who who should go through and go and score and again here i really like this is his little movement
01:03:34to to make the running behind keeping the wolves defenders on their toes and again he's really unlucky
01:03:38to not put mateta in on goal again looking in behind again takes the ball down a good cut back
01:03:48another day to get a goal and then here showing us bits of flares back here which i'm sure the crystal
01:03:55palace fans would like to see especially when they're winning but then here again always in space no
01:04:02wolves player within 10 yards of him he takes a lovely touch and a fantastic finish so
01:04:08it's how he finds that space that impresses you yeah he is and sometimes it's by standing still
01:04:13as well which is is very difficult to do it it's hard to to find that space with a lot of bodies
01:04:17around there but if we look here at the the stats from ese to to pino pino's goals and assist a little
01:04:24bit down to to ese but everything else is you know his touches in the opposite opponent's box his passes played
01:04:30into the box is all well up there so yeah we think he's a got a bright future uh no team has survived
01:04:36with two points from 12 games in the premier league cam wolves nope i think uh it's uh i thought i thought
01:04:43you were ending it there right go go on i think you it'll be the only interesting thing for me
01:04:47really was the conversation between rob outdoors and the owners to say right what's the plan are we
01:04:53planning for this season are we planning for next season in the championship i i don't see any other
01:04:57outcome okay uh it doesn't get much more mid-table than 11th versus 12th jonathan pierce was at the
01:05:04amex for brighton brentford fabian hertzler becomes the youngest manager to reach 50 games in the
01:05:11premier league knowing a win will propel his side from mid-table to the european challenging positions
01:05:16but he watches from the stand serving a touchline suspension having named an unchanged side in the
01:05:21league for the first time in their pre-international break nil nil at palace he makes one change
01:05:26enforced olivier boscal he makes his league debut having signed in the summer lewis dunk is only fit
01:05:32enough for the bench because of a slight injury problem they're looking for a 10th unbeaten league
01:05:37home match on the bounce brentford also strong at home have lost four of their opening five away this
01:05:42season and they also make one change from their pre-break win over newcastle with ayer returning for
01:05:47hickey they're winless here in four premier league visits
01:05:56switched by gomez well that's a lovely pass mintec twisting turning oh he's gone again he's gone
01:06:04again was that a mistake we drives it well they've got a shot out of it and it was well parried by keller
01:06:09that's a neat back hill and keller had to save
01:06:19tough place to come this now right with low of stoney three of their last 24 home league games
01:06:26only arsenal villa and liverpool have a better record in that time but here come brentford into the
01:06:30penalty oh that's risky that's a penalty that's a penalty all day long the labour stretching in
01:06:36to try and catch what's our but not in that way on a wet slithery surface if you're going to go to
01:06:45ground like that you have to be perfect with your timing and he was far from that penalty to brentford
01:06:54good chiago three penalties this season
01:06:59wrong foot of the keeper brighton nil brentford one ever so slightly against the runner play but they
01:07:05look such a mature premier league team these days and he cannot stop scoring
01:07:1110 goals this season in all nine in the premier league only erling harland has more
01:07:22two changes for brighton at half time he knows his team has to do a lot better in this second half
01:07:27ruta's pass drop short it came off coyote the keeper ruta back to him
01:07:38here's a good ball in here's a chance we have have they overpassed again well mate there was the chance to
01:07:43level and it was a big chance he's been in such good form for them and from there really has to hit the
01:07:51he has to hit the target that should have been one one
01:07:58and there's not a good ball from him at this stage of the game van hecker
01:08:02chip by tiago
01:08:03kick is taken quickly here's kadioglu the keeper on the outside
01:08:12look at brentford's defense already set very quick to set really impressive
01:08:19minty foraging took a good save to stop him that's brighton's best moment of the game
01:08:24and he wants a clean sheet to celebrate his birthday tomorrow there's kadeen keller acrobatic goalkeeping
01:08:36seven months since they last lost the game here in the league
01:08:41here's minty perhaps warming to the task now better ball in for welbeck
01:08:45one one oh that's a peach of a goal well he's gradually grown into the game minty it's taken
01:08:53him a long long time to deliver a killer ball but goodness me that was a killer ball and it's a fine
01:09:01finish as well look at this for a cross when inside eye beautifully bent right onto the foot of welbeck
01:09:08but that's some finish perfect perfect cross
01:09:11and an astute finish for his seventh and eight games
01:09:19henderson
01:09:21and a forward-looking ball up to sharder
01:09:24sort of playing 4-4-2 now brentford at times out by ayari
01:09:35henchewood now the ref is allowing this to go on although the official on the near side
01:09:42flag for offside the referee looked at it nearly put his whistle to his lips
01:09:45here's minty at the other end he shot his block comes back and it's in
01:09:51henderson
01:09:53brighton lee well he has this happy knack of popping up and scoring important goals and in his return
01:10:00from the ankle injury that has kept in sidelines since september the 13th
01:10:06jack henderson gives brighton the lead there's the big ball he started out wide to minty
01:10:12brentford lopsided
01:10:16inty did really well block comes out and henderson hits it
01:10:20and coyotes playing them on side in the middle and it's 2-1 to brighton and hove albion
01:10:29that's good refereeing though because the attention of chris kavanagh was called by the assistant referee
01:10:36for offside right at the start of that and he looked and he saw the flag and he nearly blew
01:10:42and then he saw brighton's break building and allowed it to go on
01:10:46across from lewis potter who's dangerous into the box brentford appealing for a penalty
01:10:54and they get one sharder impeded in the middle
01:10:58and just when it looked as if brighton were gonna turn this around and win the game
01:11:02they've given away a second penalty shot in the middle there's hands on there and a tug back by
01:11:10de kuyper but so many many many times in games you see that offense go unpunished
01:11:18can brentford get the equalizing goal it's a yellow card for the goalkeeper for bregan
01:11:25trying to intimidate tiago difficult job to intimidate tiago by the way
01:11:30took the first one brilliantly sent the goalkeeper the wrong way
01:11:34and it's saying read this time by bart for bregan it's the bart man who is brighton's hero
01:11:44little stuttering run and it was well read by for bregan this time went the right way
01:11:51and comfortably saved it was a rotten penalty really
01:11:54well what a dramatic ending to the game it's football um and it's football in this day and
01:12:02age as well where from the time it's given until the time it's taken is ridiculous how long they
01:12:09have to wait the the difference now compared to when penalties were given back in the day i think
01:12:13it's a different challenge for players how they deal with that and all the commotion that goes with
01:12:17it and all the furore and the checks and then the behavior of the goalkeeper who subsequently gets
01:12:22booked he also had already taken one so there's a bit of mind games with the keeper and but tiago's
01:12:26been immense for us this season about time i'll say one no obviously you have a plan together with
01:12:33other goalies and the goalie coach for the for the penalties unfortunately the first time didn't work
01:12:37out um second time it did so yeah happy he's remarkable for you wasn't he danny welbeck yeah i think we
01:12:46speak a lot about him during the season i always say he's like a good red wine the all he gets the
01:12:51better he gets and we are very pleased to to have him in our squad as a leader as a player as a
01:12:57personality to be back involved with the boys is just one thing to get on the pitch and yeah to pop
01:13:02up with the goal it wasn't the cleanest of strikes but um i probably wouldn't be standing there doing
01:13:06this interview if it weren't for bart so all credit goes to him making the save and massively important
01:13:10we've got the three points there does keith andrews have a point on how long players have to wait and
01:13:15all the nonsense they have to put up with before they take a spot kick a little bit but i think
01:13:21as players you you should be able to keep your focus and um i had it quite a few years ago against
01:13:26blackburn and it took about five or six minutes and before it's a penalty so i just took myself away
01:13:30from everyone and and um kept me composure and um but then if you look here it's it's it's a really good
01:13:36penalty um sends to keep the wrong way a little stutter um and gives the keeper no chance and then
01:13:44when we go into the other one godini i'm sure you'll have to say i'm the keeper it's a really good save
01:13:48yeah it's a good save but i mean you're looking at him to say you've got tiago if you're going to do
01:13:53the stutter if you're going to do the slow run up if he's already gone which he had gone in the first
01:13:57penalty you've got to have the ability to change it that's the whole point of having the stutter and
01:14:02the slow run-up is you're waiting for the goalkeeper he waits for the goalkeeper realizes and still
01:14:08can't change it in time that's why it's such a poor penalty a badly hit one whether the time took its
01:14:14toll the occasion the the timing of the penalty itself but you look at it saying well as a keeper
01:14:20that's your moment that's your time uh did you score that penalty at blackburn by the way yeah put in
01:14:25the top corner we won the league that day as well that's why you told the story uh suddenly we're
01:14:31looking to hold on to a top four place at fulham who'd picked up 10 of their 11 points at craven
01:14:36cottage simon brotherton watch this one not many would have predicted fulham would be eight points
01:14:43behind newly promoted sunderland at this stage of the season but five defeats in six has hampered
01:14:48their progress josh king comes into the team today with sasha lukic serving a one match ban
01:14:55sunderland secured a 2-2 draw with arsenal last time out and named the same starting 11 today
01:15:01granite jaka and noah sadique are both a booking away from a ban wilson isidor leads the attack brian
01:15:07broby scored the late equalizer against the league leaders but starts on the bench once again
01:15:15they've been pretty good at home for them so far three wins just the
01:15:18the one defeat and a draw as well good job too there away form not quite so clever up to this point
01:15:24all the noise inside craven cottage being made by the sunderland fans at the moment
01:15:32an opportunity for bertrand traore all played in towards isidore originally but traore then
01:15:40waltzing into the heart of the penalty area
01:15:42traore almost skipping all the way through an important block made by bernd leno
01:15:57lefay here now comes ranilda mandava
01:16:01good covering
01:16:08so what can sunderland do here in it comes from lefay
01:16:20white shirts looking to break tidy pass brings out harry wilson
01:16:23sessignon's up there as well it's wilson now going for goal and almost fighting the corner
01:16:31and harry wilson who scored a hat-trick for wales in their 7-1 victory over north macedonia
01:16:36almost continued in his free scoring ways here
01:16:42jimenez with the little flick sunderberger is there and suddenly sundan look a little bit open here as kevin
01:16:49brings it forward and still and that's a good save by roots down quickly with a strong hand
01:16:58fulham denied well struck but robin roofs was there
01:17:04obviously he's looking up at the sky there not sure he's moaning about the rain or
01:17:07the fact that his team haven't scored yet
01:17:12burger crafts across and the header beyond the far post it's kevin again
01:17:17and this time rather more straightforward for sunderland's goalkeeper
01:17:25well no changes made by either side at half time sunderland get us underway at the start of
01:17:31the second half and look to make a fast start as well with lefay who almost finds the bottom corner
01:17:39inside the opening 15 seconds of the second half sunderland quick to break here
01:17:43and lefay sneaking in sensing the opportunity and almost finding the bottom corner
01:17:50this is nordy mukhiely oh lovely
01:18:00brilliant bit of skill from the frenchman
01:18:04lovely looking pass into enzo lefay into isidore
01:18:06lovely little flick there taking a couple of players out of the play
01:18:18and isidore almost in a couple of changes coming for the home team kevin is replaced by samuel chukwese
01:18:27chukwese the nigerian international who they've got on loan from mila
01:18:36a bit of room here for burger
01:18:39chukwese waiting on the near side through the middle they go it's harry wilson and it's wide of the post
01:18:45fulham almost finding a way through sunderland's defense here it's been that sort of day for fulham in front of goal
01:18:56calvin bassi
01:18:58got chukwese on the near side he's a international teammate as well
01:19:03he's looking for and the challenge coming in from raul jimenez on goalkeeper robin roofs
01:19:13just hung in the air and sunderland have a goal kick
01:19:22chukwese will have another go into sessignon
01:19:26oh it looked inviting for him there and ryan sessignon on his 100th premier league appearance
01:19:36sends it right across the face of the goal and wide
01:19:41time's ticking away here we're up to 83 minutes
01:19:46urge forward by the home crowd
01:19:47chukwese that's an interesting one and jimenez is on the end of it
01:20:01well they've waited a long time for a goal this afternoon but for the home crowd it was worth the
01:20:06wait chukwese's made a difference since he came on and that delivery was in a corridor of uncertainty
01:20:15for the goalkeeper
01:20:19and raul jimenez pounced
01:20:24sunderland lose for only the third time this season in the premier league
01:20:29a little bit of an altercation down there on the pitch kenny teta pulling one or two people away
01:20:35the tempers fraying at the end of that match when chukwese took the ball i tried to be in the in a
01:20:41good position for me to receive the ball i think between the goalkeeper and the defender they were
01:20:47confused who was gonna take the ball and i take advantage of that and i was able to score i think
01:20:54probably deserved to to win this game because they imposed their style their strength
01:21:00and we expected more or less this kind of game for us we are still in our journey in this premier
01:21:09league we want to improve our way of playing it wasn't enough today and we got punished the home
01:21:16form is being very good the turkling sheet at home and we have to to try to replicate that
01:21:21situations for for the on the rules for the way games and it's something new for us this season
01:21:26because if you look and you analyze the last three seasons at this level you have been very similar
01:21:31away and at home and we want to make this place our fortress and to give that consistency that we
01:21:36need and to give the players the confidence that we are in the right track well they'll get confidence
01:21:41from that won't they because they caused sunderland more problems than probably any other team this
01:21:46season yeah they did i thought they were excellent and they caused some problems all afternoon and
01:21:55especially from these running deep getting numbers into the penalty box running with with power
01:21:59aggression in making sure they always had the numbers in there and that was unlucky five players
01:22:05in the penalty area you're looking at when when fulham take the game by the scruff of neck
01:22:11and they really are aggressive with the ball and aggressive in their attitude and getting numbers
01:22:16forward getting wide and they get the options there they're a really good side when they sit back or
01:22:21they're not they're kind of passive and they allow the game to drift they struggle that's what they've
01:22:27done away from home and here today they really did go out with a fantastic attitude just to take the
01:22:33game to sunderland and you're looking at all the numbers getting in the box they really didn't hold
01:22:38anything back they just kept going and going and going away this is just this is just a dream for any
01:22:44center forward obviously it's good movement but the cross is incredible and imena's in the middle of the goal
01:22:50right place gets gets a a nice tap in and a good win for fulham and they're the the stats that prove
01:22:56how much uh fulham caused sunderland uh problems more than nottingham forest and more than arsenal as
01:23:04well let's show you the league table then before we go uh arsenal can go six points clear at the top
01:23:12when they have spurs in the north london derby on sunday a fifth win in six moves chelsea up to second
01:23:19at the bottom wolves have now gone 16 premier league matches without a win liverpool are eight points
01:23:25off the top after a sixth defeat in seven uh thanks to rob and wayne gabby here tomorrow off home now to
01:23:34watch the cricket oh good night
