00:00People could find it easier to cancel unwanted subscriptions,
00:04following an announcement from Andy Burnham. Companies will have to give clearer information
00:10before customers sign up, with reminders before discounted offers end or contracts renew at a
00:16higher price. The changes are being brought forward to January 2027. The government also
00:22wants to tackle misleading discounts in shops, including inflated WAS prices. A consultation
00:28will begin this autumn on how these rules should work. Ministers say the subscription changes could
00:34save consumers around £400 million a year. Opposition politicians say the measures repeat
00:41plans announced by the previous government.
