Alex Burghart, Shadow NI Secretary, calls government plans to tackle the cost-of-living, including making subscriptions easier to cancel, "very small measures". He says until the government reduces the amount it spends, things are going to get much worse as government will have to spend more and more to service its debt. Report by Louisc. 00:00I think that these are very small measures. The subscriptions thing is because of legislation the Conservatives brought in in
00:062024.
00:07Keir Starm already announced it. In fact, it looks very much like Andy Burnham has already run out of ideas
00:12and is just regurgitating old stuff.
00:14And so there is a major problem in this country. We are now three trillion pounds in debt.
00:19We are spending huge amounts of money on the interest on that.
00:23And until Andy Burnham and John Healy and the Labour Party wake up to this, things are going to get
00:30much worse because we are going to spend more and more money servicing our debt and have less and less
00:35money spent on public services.
00:37The government needs to start reducing the cost of government, reducing the amount of money that government spends, needs to
00:43dramatically reduce the amount of money we are borrowing.
00:45And it needs to start reducing people's taxes so we can get real growth. Businesses can hire more people and
00:51people can have better wages.
