00:01Welcome back to Breaking Tech, I'm Marjorie Payon, and we have a bright new 30 minute segment for you with
00:09guests, innovators of course, and reporters on the set of Viva Tech.
00:14When students, startups, and corporations team up to co-create tomorrow's world, well, SL Group aims at designing a better
00:23future, and I'm fortunate enough to have its CEO with me, joining me live, Julien Fayet, under the group's shield,
00:33there's definitely Moho that we saw earlier ago with its CEO, Olivier Cotina, but also School Lab and Raise Lab,
00:41and from what I understand, your superpower out there,
00:44is definitely to create labs and places to foster social innovation and mobilize entrepreneurs, students, scientists, NGOs, corporations, and overall
00:55citizens to co-create the future.
00:59That's what we do. We strongly believe that to change the world, we have to open the doors, and in
01:06fact, no company can change the world by itself,
01:09and that's why we've been working for now more than 10 years on the ability to open for organizations, startups,
01:18big companies, and we do it with many, many kind of profiles, as you said, students, big organizations, scientists, and
01:28startups.
01:29And we believe that with the complexity of the world today, and in particular with the environmental and social issues
01:36that the world has to face, openness is actually key, and that's what we try to do.
01:42Speaking of opening doors, well, open innovation is literally on everyone's lips here at VivaTech, but should we take it
01:51for granted?
01:52Is there a process in opening innovation?
01:56In fact, this is not natural. Naturally, every company has the tendency to keep the grip on its IP and
02:05its personnel and everything.
02:07So what we learn to do and what we've been learning for 10 years now is the way of making
02:15people collaborate, making alliances, and now coalitions with more.
02:20And how do we do that? We put people on actual projects, and that's the best way to make people
02:27collaborate, is to make them into action, to put them into action.
02:33Action, it is. Now, speaking of action, one of School Lab's verticals is definitely about food, to be even more
02:42accurate about people and food.
02:44What went behind this decision?
02:48In fact, we decided to focus on food in particular. Of course, food has a major impact in the world,
02:56and in particular the upstream part of the food chain.
03:00The impact on soil, the CO2, of course, but also the water, the biodiversity, the impact is actually huge, and
03:10it's mainly negative at the moment.
03:13So what we decided to do is try to change stuff in this industry and put some resources and competences
03:23in trying to help different actors to change the way the food chain is actually working,
03:31and mainly in the upstream part of the food chain, which means agriculture in particular, and farmers who are the
03:41key players in the future of food.
03:44And that's definitely the people, part of the people in Food Vertical, right?
03:48Absolutely. And we strongly believe that we can change anything if we don't closely work with the farmers.
03:57The farmers all over the world, here in France or in Europe, where there are fewer and fewer farmers, which
04:02is a big problem for the agriculture,
04:05but also in many different countries where we work in Vietnam, for instance, where there are many more farmers, but
04:13who are facing big challenges.
04:15But if we don't address the farmers and what they are going to learn and how they are going to
04:25tackle the new challenges, if we don't address the farmers, then we won't change anything.
04:30In promoting regenerative agriculture and the solution that we believe will change the actual face of agriculture.
04:41Yeah, which totally actually illustrates one of the motto of SL Group, which is blending digital inclusion with environmental transformation.
04:50In fact, both aspects are necessary, of course, and the digitalization helps people work together.
05:01And of course, we put digital tools also in the hands of farmers and different actors in the food industry
05:09to make people able to work together.
05:11And so the social environmental issues are closely linked and the food chain and the food industry is really a
05:24very good topic to put that into the light.
05:29Absolutely and into action.
05:31Well, I don't know if it will answer the million dollar question everyone has in this world, which is how
05:37to feed 9 billion humans.
05:39But your coalitions are definitely part of a better solution.
05:43Thank you so much, Julien Fayet, for diving into what SL Group is up to when it comes to transforming
05:50and co-creating the future.
05:52And now, last year, only 10% of European startups were funded by women.
05:58In the meantime, male startup founders are drawing 90% of investments according to a recent Sista study.
06:06Well, to give women the rightful place at the tech table they need, VivaTech have partnered with 15Tech for a
06:14new edition of the Female Founder Challenge sponsored by AXA, Mazar, and Societe Generale.
