00:00Colin Morikawa gets an emotional win for the first time since Zozo on the fall of 2023 and this is
00:06something that has been a long time coming in terms of the way we've talked about Colin's game
00:11on this show I mean 2024 Colin did everything he possibly could to win a golf tournament without
00:17winning a golf tournament including playing in the tour championship he would have won the tour
00:22championship if it was played on the 2025 format but of course there were starting strokes in 24
00:26so he does not win that event and then there's the near miss last year in 2025 at the Arnold
00:31Palmer
00:31Invitational where Russell Henley's insane chip in ends up kind of pipping him at the end and so we
00:38see Colin finishing out winning by a stroke on the 18th green another emotional finish as his wife
00:43cat comes out they're expecting a child just both the release of a long-awaited win and also what
00:50it means now again framed in the context of becoming a father soon and then also just had to get
00:56in the
00:56notes because we started the week watching Tommy Fleetwood decked out in all pebble beach gear
01:01every single day had something new from the pro shop right of passage out there and then the last
01:05thing Colin did before leaving the property is he and cat with the went hit the shop picked out about
01:10you know seven different hats insurance cat got a little teddy bear for for the baby on the way
01:14and there's a picture of him on the plane home he's already got his hat and his vest on just
01:20saying
01:20I think I'll be wearing this for a long long while so just you know just try to kind of
01:24sum up
01:24the the day the week for calling all the struggles he's been through with short game and putting but
01:29just truly elite elite ball striking that kind of drove this win this week 100 but I also think
01:35he made some key putts down the stretch and in years past maybe not making those putts down the
01:42stretch made a big one at the 15th hole also the 16th and just some like you said just exquisite
01:49iron shots throughout the week I even go back to his Saturday round where he shot a 10 under par
01:5562 which got him into that final grouping and he did it in the most insane fashion 18 greens at
02:03pebble beach which is very very difficult to do if you've ever played pebbles super small greens yes
02:07but then also he did it with losing strokes game putting and and he also for the week lost strokes
02:15game putting and still won a golf tournament where you had to go low so his iron game was phenomenal
02:21even look back to last season it really you can look back to many many many seasons with
02:26colin morikawa he is a generational iron player we saw it this week we've seen it throughout his
02:32entire career uh but but certainly we saw some incredible shots um with colin you know when it
02:39comes to closing out golf tournaments that has been a bit of the bugaboo you I think you look back
02:45to
02:45bay hill last year that's one that I think let him down a path of trying a lot of different
02:50things
02:51like he was on his way in cruise control at bay hill where nobody's making birdies he's got a lead
02:56and russell henley's right there too kind of a a type of player that's not going to really go away
03:01either
03:02and russell henley has that moment at 16 where he chips in for eagle and all of a sudden he
03:08walks off
03:08the 18th green and russell henley somehow won the golf tournament and I imagine after that and
03:13colin looking back at that uh finishing second at century at earlier in the year but then looking
03:20back to the following year where he had seven events where he finished inside the top five and
03:25multiple runner-ups coming close uh to winning it's against scotty a couple different places but also
03:31even let's throw it back even further than 2023 where he had a chance to win at century
03:36and if you recall down the stretch it was a it was a scold bunker shot at 14 a couple
03:42chunk chips
03:43at 15 john rom makes some birdies and eagles down the stretch and john rom wins by a couple shots
03:49so when we go all the way back to 2023 to now what have we seen what have we learned
03:54from colin well
03:55the player and the talent of column workout none of that's really gone away but what has changed is
04:00colin wanting to change things to try to get into the winner's circle and what that can lead you to
04:06is down paths that maybe make him a little bit more inconsistent uh you saw him change many many
04:12putters and hey if this is the change that he needed to find the correct putter long term for
04:18to to be the best that he can be in his career then great but during that time i think
04:24it was easy for us
04:25to nitpick and say hey colin's changing putters every week he's changing caddies a lot too uh colin
04:32was a player that didn't seem like he changed a whole lot uh throughout the beginning of his career
04:37when he had won two majors in his uh in his debuts at some of these events so that's kind
04:44of been the
04:45story with colin over the last couple years and then throw in even just the hate that he received for
04:51the rider cup being in a pairing with harris english that technically was a bad data pairing
04:57but now people are like why are you sending colin out of the rider cup it's like what
05:01he's this guy is one of the best of the planet he's he's one of the best iron players in
05:06the world
