00:00All right, I want to check in on the action on the main floor where we are, it's the first
00:05time actually that we have a second hall with sports. Sports is going to be a big theme, so let's
00:11check in on the second hall here at Viva Tech.
00:24Anna, are we, Anna, I think we have Anna who is doing sports now. Married, okay, Married, even better. So,
00:35Married, what are you watching this year?
00:36Okay, so I'm delighted to be here. I am the Tech for Change editor this year, but let's be honest,
00:42everything we can see around us right now is tech for change in one way or another.
00:46So, what I want to do is add this word positive into the mix. I'm the tech for positive change,
00:51and I think I'd want to go even further and say that what I'm going to do is be deliberately
00:56seeking out the organizations, the individuals, the businesses that are actively, deliberately seeking out positive change.
01:03Because positive change can happen by accident, or you can do ESG, or you can do different projects.
01:09But what about the people that are actually in their business model building in positive impact on either individuals or
01:14the planet into their business model?
01:16And that's who I'm going to be seeking out over the next few days.
01:20It's a very exciting time, and there's a lot of skepticism around technology, particularly when you think about AI, the
01:28jobs that can be lost as a result of it.
01:30What can AI do that could potentially be harmful?
01:33So, how are you kind of balancing the discussion around AI and looking at the positive sides of that?
01:40Well, if I'm perfectly honest, I'm letting Rudy, who you just had a chat with, touch on all the artificial
01:44intelligence kind of conversation.
01:46But AI is actually operating some of the projects that I've been looking at.
01:50For example, if I give you an example in the food tech sector, talking about AI for good, one of
01:55the projects is, you know, building indoor farming that's using AI algorithms to basically let you plant your fruit and
02:01vegetable, let AI monitor what the plant needs, what it doesn't need.
02:05And literally, you just get a message in your phone at the end that's saying, okay, it's time to harvest
02:09your fruit and vegetables.
02:10So, you know, AI for positive change is very present, particularly in something that's happening for the very first time
02:17here at Viva Tech, known as the impact mile.
02:20Now, I don't know.
02:20Do you know anything about the impact mile yet?
02:22I've heard a lot of buzz around it, but tell us more.
02:24With pleasure.
02:25Well, basically, you know, Viva Tech's been operating since 2016, but it's only in these last few years that this
02:30impacts kind of, this impact for change, positive change has really grown in momentum.
02:34So, for the first time ever, they've introduced this impact mile, which we're dubbing the Champs-Élysées, if you will,
02:40of Viva Tech.
02:41What it is, it's an avenue full of innovations where every single project there has been sifted through a multi
02:47-step methodology to make sure that every project in there is actually genuinely seeking out positive impact for people or
02:55the planet.
02:56So, it's a strip.
02:56There's even arches.
02:58It's not the Arc de Triomphe, but there are arches that are over this impact mile.
03:02And I advise everyone here today to take a stroll down the impact mile.
03:06And it's not an actual mile either, I hope, because I will get very tired.
03:10Because, honestly, it's been one hour and my feet are already tired.
03:12Yeah, that would be a long walk.
03:14Absolutely not.
03:15Well, I did notice it, right?
03:16When you walk in, you see impact mile.
03:17It's a very interesting concept.
03:19It's kind of like leading you on a journey of innovation.
03:22And it's been broken up into impact mile human on one side and impact mile planet.
03:27Obviously, sometimes they kind of, something that's good for the planet is often very good for humans as well.
03:31But overall, there's 18 projects that have been identified.
03:35And I don't know if I've got the time to maybe give you a bit of a teaser of each
03:39one.
03:39And I'll give you an impact mile planet one to begin with.
03:43So, basically, this one is called NOT PLA.
03:47And basically, their tagline is, let's make packaging disappear.
03:51NOT PLA stands for not plastic.
03:54And what they've actually done is create packaging made out of seafood that is either edible in some cases or
04:01in other cases is completely compostable in a home setting.
04:04We know that compostable, if it needs to go to an industrial facility, not particularly useful.
04:09Do you have an industrial facility at your house?
04:11No.
04:11Do you have it to collect?
04:12Not necessarily.
04:12But this is the kind of packaging that you can throw in your household bin.
04:16And we're talking, obviously, about all that takeaway kind of packaging.
04:19And they've used their edible kind of pods, their product, and they use them at places such as the London
04:25Marathon.
04:26So, there at the London Marathon, instead of giving plastic bottles, you know, the runners can literally take, and I'll
04:31show you some video later, take one of these kind of pods, pop it in their mouth, and swallow it.
04:36So, you know, I don't know if you've ever seen the scenes after a marathon, like, with all the plastic.
04:40Yes, lots of plastic.
04:41Yeah, so, absolutely.
04:42They've won an award, a Prince William Earthshot prestigious award, not too long ago.
04:47They're definitely one of the innovations to watch, and they are, of course, on the impact mile.
04:53Amazing.
04:53I think we have time for one more question.
04:55So, what are you most excited for today?
04:56It's our first day at Viva Tech.
04:57What are you watching?
04:58Well, I just, I, obviously, you know, we've got some big speakers.
05:02We've got the French president and things like that.
05:03But I love the pitch startups.
05:05Like, I love the pitches when they come in.
05:06And I know because I've just finished my master's myself where I had to pitch.
05:11So, for me right now, seeing the energy, and I know the amount of work that's gone behind.
05:14And this is really the time for their make and break.
05:17You know, the investors are here.
05:18The right people are here.
05:19And that's what Viva Tech's about.
05:20So, I love seeing them kind of have their five minutes of fame.
05:23Absolutely.
05:24It's going to be very exciting to watch.
05:26We have, I think, thousands of investors here.
05:29So, a lot of good opportunities for these startups.
05:32Absolutely.
05:33Thank you so much.
05:34We'll check in with you throughout the morning.
05:35Look forward to speaking later.
05:36Thank you.
