00:30Linen Fibre. Yes, Thomas, you're hearing right there, Linen Fibre. You're wondering whether it's solid. You can't hear the noise
00:36there, but I assure you that it is. Now, to learn a little bit more about this car, it's my
00:41pleasure to join beside me Antonio Espinoza, who is the CEO of Leux, who are the makers of this car.
00:48Now, I heard you speaking.
01:18Thanks very much for being here. Thank you.
01:49And it takes less energy, time and effort to produce.
01:53So, looking at sustainability at all levels of the production process, if I just go to the Linen Fibre, because
01:58obviously that's the thing that kind of is very catchy, where do you get the idea to use Linen, a
02:02bio-based chassis?
02:04So, the briefing we gave ourselves was, if we want to make a sustainable car, we need to think about
02:10the materials with which these cars are produced.
02:12And so, we said, okay, let's build a car with a material that is sustainable, abundant, cheap, light, because weight
02:23is one of the main challenges for electric cars.
02:28And so, if we want sustainable cars, we need to be energy efficient, and lightness for energy efficiency is the
02:35maximum feature.
02:38If I can stop you for a second, it weighs 550 kilograms. How does that compare to other cars on
02:43the market?
02:44So, the main urban car today weighs 1,100 kilos, so it's 50% reduction.
02:50This is a different homologation, it's an L7 homologation, so it can, the maximum speed is 90 kilometers per hour,
02:59but for daily urban use, it's more than enough.
03:02And we believe this kind of configuration with a 13 kilowatt hour battery is more than enough, because it can
03:11give you 150 kilometers of range.
03:13Which is more than most drives that happen in Europe, as I heard you say earlier.
03:17Yeah, yeah, 97% of daily trips by European are lower than 100 kilometers per day.
03:26Now, I might ask you the question that it's great to have a sustainable car, but car sales are going
03:31down in general.
03:32Maybe we should continue that trend instead, and just look at a life without cars entirely, rather than putting our
03:37efforts into more sustainable cars.
03:39What are your thoughts on that?
03:40The thing is, not just, the car sales are going down, but the car use is not going down, so
03:48people are still using cars massively.
03:51The thing is, people are using older cars, because new cars are too expensive, too complex, too inefficient.
03:58And so, what we're trying to do is bring a solution to the market that can be much more sustainable
04:03than the current options.
04:05We're reducing 40% of the carbon footprint in the life cycle of the car compared to the most efficient
04:12car in the urban segment today.
04:15And 80% reduction of CO2 footprint when compared to an internal combustion SUV.
04:21And also, one important thing from this car is the fact that it's designed thinking about car-sharing operators.
04:29So, not only because it's very efficient in the range, but also because it has the modular battery,
04:35that a car-sharing operator can swap the battery in situ instead of having to take the car to charge
04:40to a station and back to the city.
04:41Absolutely. And one important point is that you're not going to paint this car.
04:44We can see kind of an unusual color there. What is this color we can see?
04:48So, this is the color. This is the raw color of the linen fiber.
04:52And it's so beautiful that we're going to use it as the color of the brand and of the product.
04:59Also, because the painting of the cars also have a very high environmental impact.
05:08So, the less paint we can use, the better for the environment.
05:11And in just one word, when can we imagine a car like this on our roads, driving it down the
05:15Impact Mile, but outside in the real street?
05:17So, I hope 2025 is the year.
05:192025. Thank you very much, Antonio Espinosa.
05:22Thank you so much.
05:22Thank you very much for joining us here at Viva Tech on the Impact Mile.
05:25It's been an absolute pleasure you can find that car here.
05:27Unbelievable. Thank you, Murray. Thank you for that.
