00:02Yes Upton, in fact I'm in Viva Tech's inaugural Femme Tech Village, a space dedicated to innovations in women's health
00:10and it's my absolute pleasure to welcome Delphine Molou who runs the young non-profit Femme Tech France.
00:17Many thanks for being with us Delphine.
00:18Thank you for having me.
00:19Now Delphine, 76% of Europeans don't know what Femme Tech is, so I think my first question needs to
00:26be, what are we talking about exactly?
00:28So Femme Tech refers to all the innovations towards women's health, so from period to breast cancer, menopause, fertility, vulva
00:38pain, how can tech improve women's health?
00:41Now the obvious question and maybe one that you do get asked a lot is why do we need an
00:48entire sector dedicated to this?
00:51So this term was created in 2016 by Edatine, the founder of Clue, the period tracking app, because back in
00:58the day she realised that health tech was not looking at women's health at all.
01:03So she really felt the need to create a specific industry to highlight the need to focus more and develop
01:09specific products and services to improve women's health.
01:12Could we just say simply that there was too many men researching other issues and not focusing on this sector?
01:18Yes, definitely. There were a tonne of stuff for Viagra or erectile dysfunction, but nothing for endometriosis or fertility or
01:28breastfeeding, so yes, there really was a need.
01:31Now, during this Vivotech salon, you've actually released the results of a survey that's really giving an overview of the
01:37sector here in France.
01:38Can you give us some of the main findings?
01:40Yes, so we released this survey with Wavestone and some of the key findings that we have is that today
01:46in France we have 115 femtech startups, which is quite huge.
01:51It's such a young sector.
01:53Exactly, and it's 40% more than in November where we did the first mapping, so it's increasing. We see
01:58a real growth.
02:0096% of them are female-funded, which is not a surprise, but still, it's interesting to see in tech
02:05such a female-specific industry.
02:09And maybe another, one last number, more than €30 million of community turnover last year was created by the startup
02:19who answered.
02:20Super interesting. Now, over four days, 20 femtech innovations are going to be presented in this femtech village.
02:26Give us a quick walk and talk around of what we can, what can we see, what kind of projects
02:31do we have here?
02:31Sure, so every day, six startups will be exhibiting and they're changing every day.
02:35Today, we have Fava with us. Hi.
02:38So, Fava is an organic period brand and they install distributors inside companies, but also schools.
02:45And then, maybe we can have a look at Boom.
02:48Boom is a supplement, food supplement company for pregnancy and pregnant women.
02:53Thank you very much. So, as you've just heard, 90% of femtech founders are female, which means, in fact,
02:59you can be a man and work in femtech.
03:02Definitely. As long as you develop a product or service towards women's health, it doesn't matter if you're male or
03:07female.
03:07Thank you very much, Delphine Molu, founder here at VivaTech, the very first village dedicated to this sector.
03:14Wonderful. Thanks, Murad. Great interview there.
03:17Yesterday, we heard from Mark.
