A Muslim youth was allegedly assaulted by activists of Bajrang Dal in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, after his identity was revealed during questioning in the Nanakheda area on Monday night.

According to police, the youth, identified as Zafar Khan, had come to Ujjain from Mohali along with a 32-year-old woman. A video of the incident surfaced on Tuesday, showing the young man surrounded by several individuals and being questioned before he was allegedly beaten.

Allegations and Assault:
As per local reports, Bajrang Dal activists had received information that young men and women from different states were staying at a hotel in the Nanakheda area. After waiting outside for nearly an hour, activists reportedly apprehended Zafar Khan, who was dressed in a dhoti-kurta, had applied tripundra on his forehead and was wearing a Rudraksha bead around his neck.

During questioning, he allegedly initially gave a Hindu name. However, upon further interrogation, he disclosed his real name as Zafar Khan. In the viral video, he identifies himself as a devotee of Lord Shiva and states that the woman had brought him to Ujjain for Visit at major temples.

He told those present that they had visited the Mahakaleshwar Temple, Harsiddhi Temple and Kaal Bhairav Temple.

After his identity was revealed, activists allegedly assaulted him. The video shows more than a dozen people surrounding him. During the incident, he reportedly sustained a head injury and began bleeding. Police reached the spot after receiving information.

Hotel Stay Controversy:
District coordinator of Bajrang Dal, Rishabh Kushwaha, claimed that the couple had failed to secure rooms at multiple hotels before checking into one in Nanakheda. He alleged that the youth had given a Hindu name at the hotel and was dressed like a Pandit. He said the youth was later handed over to police.

Police Statement:
Station House Officer Narendra Yadav of Nanakheda Police Station confirmed that both individuals are residents of Mohali and belong to different communities. He stated that the woman was aware of the youth’s religious identity and that they were known to each other.

Police said Aadhaar cards and other documents are being verified. Further action will be taken based on the complaint received. Investigation is underway.
