Worshippers at the Jama Masjid in Jalalpur village of Bommalaramaram Mandal, Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district, were shocked on Monday morning, February 16, 2026, after discovering that the mosque had been vandalised during the night.

According to local residents, unidentified miscreants allegedly broke into the mosque around midnight. The accused reportedly damaged walls, window panes, washroom doors and the microphone system inside the premises.

Multiple copies of the Holy Quran were found scattered and desecrated across the mosque compound. Empty beer and whisky bottles were also recovered from inside the place of worship, causing anger and distress among the local community.

Condemning the incident, Majlis Bachao Tehreek (MBT) spokesperson Amjed Ullah Khan demanded that the police register a criminal case and conduct a thorough investigation at the earliest.

An officer from Bommalaramaram Police said that a communal angle was being downplayed at this stage, stating that beer bottles were thrown inside the premises and that the mosque has since been cleaned.

Police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against unknown persons under Sections 331(4) (house trespass or house-breaking), 329(4) (criminal trespass), 298 (injuring or defiling a place of worship), 324(4) (mischief) and 196 (promoting enmity between different groups on religious grounds) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Three special teams have been formed to trace and apprehend the miscreants. Investigation is underway.
