Controversy in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra 🚨

In Rahimabad village of Sillod tehsil, a group of youths allegedly sprinkled gomutra inside the Nageshwar Mahadev Temple after former minister and Shiv Sena leader Abdul Sattar visited the shrine on Mahashivratri (February 15).

Sattar had offered prayers at the temple during the festival. Later, the youths reportedly carried out what they called a “purification ritual,” claiming his presence had “contaminated” the sanctum. A video of the act has since gone viral.

Some of the youths allegedly objected to his entry, citing his non-vegetarian diet and religious identity, and said he should have taken darshan from outside.

The incident triggered sharp political reactions. Tushar Bhosale questioned Sattar’s entry into the sanctum, while Ambadas Danve termed the act “petty politics,” saying people of all faiths should be welcomed in temples. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde reportedly described the episode as “unfortunate.”

Sattar, a prominent leader from Sillod who previously served as agriculture minister and later aligned with the Shinde-led Shiv Sena faction, has not issued an immediate response.

No legal action has been announced so far. The episode has reignited debate over religious access and the politicisation of faith in the region.
