A 23-year-old man was killed in a road accident in Dwarka, Delhi, earlier this month after an SUV allegedly driven by a 17-year-old boy collided with his motorcycle and then rammed into a parked car.

The deceased has been identified as Sahil Dhaneshra. His mother, in a social media video, alleged that her son was killed due to reckless driving and claimed that the minor was performing stunts for social media fame. Police, however, have stated that the matter remains under investigation.

“I raised my child for 23 years as a single mother. On February 3, my innocent child was blown away by a car. I am a helpless mother,” she said, appealing to media organisations and residents of Dwarka to support her in seeking justice. She also urged parents to be vigilant about road safety.

Accident Details

According to police, the fatal accident was reported at 11.57 am on February 3 near Lal Bahadur Shastri College under the jurisdiction of Dwarka South Police Station.

A police team reached the spot and found three vehicles — an SUV (Scorpio), a Dzire taxi and a motorcycle — in an accidental condition.

Sahil Dhaneshra, who was riding the motorcycle, was found dead at the scene. Ajit Singh, the driver of the parked Dzire taxi, sustained injuries and was shifted to Indira Gandhi International Hospital (IGI Hospital). His statement has been recorded and the final medical opinion on his medico-legal case (MLC) is awaited.

Minor Driver Apprehended

During investigation, the SUV driver was identified as 17-year-old Akshatra Singh. Police said he was driving without a valid licence at the time of the accident. Being a minor, he was produced before the Juvenile Justice Board and sent to an observation home.

On February 10, the JJB granted him interim bail, citing his ongoing Class 10 board examinations.

Legal Action and Probe

An FIR was registered under Sections 281 (rash driving), 106(1) (causing death by negligence) and 125(a) (act endangering life or personal safety of others) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

All three vehicles involved in the accident have been seized and mechanically inspected. CCTV footage from the surrounding area has also been collected.

Preliminary findings suggest that the SUV first collided with the motorcycle coming from the opposite direction before hitting the parked Dzire car on the roadside.

Speaking to reports, DCP (Dwarka) Ankit Singh said further investigation into the circumstances leading to the accident is underway.
