00:00Now, also, Boston, we talked about what they did last year,
00:03adding pieces to the puzzle, which includes on offense and also pitching.
00:06They pick up Ranger Suarez, formerly of my Philadelphia Phillies,
00:10on a five-year deal worth $130 million.
00:14You look at the top four pitchers now, Tom, in that rotation for Boston.
00:17It's Crochet, it's Suarez, it's Gray, and it's Bayo at this point.
00:21Love the move here, man.
00:23Ranger, underrated, finally got paid, good for him.
00:26Yeah, great move bringing in Ranger Suarez.
00:29I will say I'm not very high on Sonny Gray.
00:33So to see them make another move on top of trading for Sonny Gray
00:37is what they needed to do.
00:38And bringing in, again, like you say, an underrated pitcher
00:42who's kind of like a 1B is really what they needed.
00:46They couldn't have just traded or signed for another random pitcher
00:48to just slot in alongside Gray and Brian Bayo.
00:51They needed another sturdy, consistent guy,
00:54and that's what they have behind Crochet.
00:55So, you know, I think Bayo can be a solid pitcher
00:59if he's not asked to do too much as a 3 or a 4.
01:03Gray, I think, is in for some serious regression.
01:04He's also getting up there in age.
01:06But, you know, they made some other trades in the offseason,
01:08which we'll get to as we go throughout the weeks discussing things team by team.
01:12But great signing for Boston.
01:13It was the best move they made all season, bringing in Ranger Suarez.
01:17Yep.
01:17Keep that back healthy, man.
01:18A crafty pitcher can do some damage here and certainly cool and calm under pressure,
01:23which is what you're going to need if you're pitching in Boston slash New York there
01:26come that postseason time.
01:27You take a look for the San Diego Padres.
01:29They had to do this.
01:30They welcomed back Michael King to a three-year contract through 2028 for the Padres here.
01:35We take a look at their estimated starting lineup for their pitchers, Tom King,
01:38Pavetta, Musgrove, Vasquez, and Herman Marquez in that starting lineup.
01:44Going to be interesting what we see from the Padres
01:46is because Joe Musgrove didn't pitch last year.
01:49Herman Marquez goes from Colorado to San Diego.
01:53You know, Herman Marquez has been a good pitcher, you know,
01:56dating back a couple years, all things considered,
01:58when you look at his, you know, stats outside of Coors Field
02:02or even some of his stats in Coors Field, pretty good.
02:05Getting him away from there and having him be the back end
02:08can actually be very beneficial for him
02:10instead of being the front-line starter for the Rockies.
02:13So the Padres have talent.
02:15I still just want to see it play out, essentially.
02:18I'm still a little bit low on the Padres when it's all said and done.
02:21Yeah, you know, it's a funny part about the Padres, too,
02:23is like the old ownership group, the previous owner did pass away.
02:27But they were saying, you know what?
02:29We're going to dip into this arms race here
02:30and see if we can go toe-to-toe like the Giants
02:32and, more importantly, the Los Angeles Dodgers.
02:34It just feels like they backed away a little bit from that at this point.
02:37Now, the line is still going to be good.
02:38You take a look at their one through nine,
02:39Tatis, Merrill, Mitrado, Laureano, Sheets, and Bogarts, and Cronenworth.
02:43We get those here.
02:44But this is one of those teams that we felt, Tom,
02:45that was going to go toe-to-toe in payroll with the Dodgers
02:47until the Dodgers were like, you know what?
02:49Check what we can do out.
02:51You want to match this?
02:51And the Padres were like, we're not doing any of that.
02:55Yeah, there was a rising tide with the Padres.
02:58There was.
02:58They get Machado, they trade for Soto.
03:01You're like, okay, we are in for a new era of Padres baseball
03:05that are going to be, you know, these competing giants with the Dodgers.
03:08Not the Giants, but a competing threat with the Dodgers.
03:11And then, like you said, they eased off the gas a little bit.
03:14Like, if you are going down a path, you have to commit to that,
03:16and they just do so.
03:18Let's go.
