00:00Because the Red Sox right now are the worst team in baseball, record-wise.
00:04You've got the Red Sox sitting at 2-8.
00:07They've dropped three in a row.
00:08It is the worst start for the Boston Red Sox, I believe, in franchise history.
00:12They've never lost eight times in their first ten games.
00:15Yep, they've never had a worse record in the first ten games of a season.
00:18And the Boston Red Sox have been around for a hot minute, folks.
00:22It seems like everything is going wrong for Boston right now.
00:26And I feel like a lot of it stems from the offense and the offensive lethargy that has followed them.
00:34Have they lost a couple of really tight games?
00:36Yes, they have.
00:37But at the end of the day, you've got to win some of those tight games.
00:40They ran into the Cincinnati Reds.
00:41We're winning every single one-run game they find themselves in.
00:44But for Boston, there are some flaws being exposed right now.
00:48When you look at the Red Sox and their ten-game start,
00:51what is the glaring deficiency that jumps out to you?
00:54That's what we were talking about in the weekend roundup.
01:00It just doesn't feel like they're doing really anything very well.
01:05I wish there was one specific area I could look at and say,
01:08this is the specific spot that I think they could be far better.
01:11I just don't think they're doing anything in particular very well at all.
01:15I think the big part is just it seems like they're giving a lot of at-bats away defensively.
01:24The miscues there.
01:25It just doesn't seem like a team that's clicking on all cylinders.
01:28Even if Sedan Rafaela grading out, he's had some bad reads, some bad luck with the win,
01:33whatever it may be.
01:34He's grading out as a negative defender right now.
01:37Actually, I think by the metrics, he's been one of the worst outfielders in baseball.
01:40How does that happen?
01:41That guy's a wizard.
01:43Teams are just relentlessly running on anything hit to Roman Anthony.
01:48It just feels like their Achilles heels are getting exposed while their strengths are also
01:53being kind of cut down here a little bit.
01:57I don't know.
01:58It just feels like nothing is quite going right for this team right now.
02:02Did you feel like that was an issue with Roman Anthony or could present as an issue at any point
02:07in the prospect evaluation?
02:09I thought this guy was pretty darn flawless.
02:12I always thought he'd be kind of an average defender.
02:16I think he still can be.
02:18I don't know what's going on with the arm, though.
02:21I never thought it was great, but I never thought of it to the point where he picked that ball
02:27up.
02:27Remember, he's playing left field.
02:29He's playing left field at Fenway Park.
02:32He picked that ball up not that deep in the left field at Fenway Park, which is already very shallow.
02:38And the runner was on third, like touching third base when he had the ball.
02:41And the throw didn't even make it to home on a roll.
02:44I don't know if it's like a little bit of like the yips.
02:47I don't know if maybe he's dealing with something.
02:49The other part is like.
02:52And I've seen this talked about, you know, around sports media already a little bit in the baseball world.
02:57But like, who's the leader of this team?
03:02And like, why is it almost been semi-anointed to a 21-year-old who's going to go through his
03:06own turbulence of this year in Roman Anthony?
03:08Like, who is the leader of this?
03:11Of this Red Sox team?
03:12It's not the guy that says he's going to take out the other team that they just acquired.
03:16What's the right answer?
03:17Is it?
03:18Is it Trevor story?
03:19I don't I feel like he just shows up to work and does his job.
03:24I don't think he's maybe he's a lead by example guy.
03:27The other side is like the infield, which we were extremely concerned about.
03:31Um, which letting Bregman walk and then having the, you know, just like kind of piecing it together how they
03:37could.
03:37I think Caleb Durbin is going to be better.
03:39But, you know, anytime a team trades a rookie of the year runner up, you probably have to wonder if
03:44they feel like they're selling high.
03:45They're story Monasterio and Caleb Durbin have an OPS plus of seven over 88 plate appearances, according to podcast P
03:53like that's, that's a big problem too.
03:56But I think there is like a little bit of the, what is this team's identity?
04:00Who is the leader?
04:02This is where, you know, Alex Cora, who earns a lot of high marks, right?
04:09Yeah.
04:10So this is where I think a lot lies on Cora to, to kind of help this team sift through
04:15that.
04:16So I, real quick, I just want to get this out of the way.
04:19And then I've got a couple of the Red Sox thoughts just statistically based.
04:22But, um, again, we talk about panic button, how there are factors there that can start to get you looking
04:27in the general vicinity of the panic button.
04:29Um, you know, two and a half weeks into the season, two weeks into the season here.
04:33And one of them is clubhouse dynamic, which is why you start to maybe side-eye the panic button in
04:38San Francisco.
04:40Clubhouse dynamic is that kind of bleeding into where you may start to side-eye the panic button in Boston.
04:45I also think just divisional power is important here.
04:48You talked about Toronto.
04:49They're going to be fine.
04:51But at the end of the day, like Toronto and Boston, both can't scuffle and then come out the other
04:57side of this.
04:58Like every single month has to matter in the AL East.
05:01If you were in the AL Central, you can get away with a dreadful month because the overall firepower in
05:07that division is just not good enough to, you know, stiff arm a team that has five amazing months.
05:13Toronto could have five amazing months and they still might be in trouble and still not win the division.
05:18Boston could have five amazing months.
05:20But if they're two and eight over a 10 game stretch at the outset of the year, like you're already
05:24working uphill and it's getting pretty darn steep.
05:28To this point.
