00:01Hey, Jay Carper here from American Torah, and I'm reading from Charlie Kirk's Stop in the Name of God.
00:07I'll put an Amazon affiliate link to that in the video description or in the comments, depending on where you're
00:13watching this.
00:15If you haven't picked it up already, I recommend that you do. It's a good book.
00:22I'm in Chapter 3, The History of the Sabbath.
00:24And, you know, Western culture in America, historically, we haven't kept a seventh-day Sabbath.
00:30We've kept a first-day Sabbath, which is not God's Sabbath. It's a man-made tradition.
00:37And, in fact, people started keeping a Sunday Sabbath in order to keep people from obeying God's commandments and looking
00:45to Jewish.
00:46So, it's disobeying God in order to avoid persecution or because people hated Jews.
00:56You know, I'm not going to try to mind-read people from 1,500, 1,700 years ago.
01:03But it really was not a good thing. It was a man-made thing invented to justify disobeying God.
01:11But, regardless of that, Sunday, a communal Sunday Sabbath still served a very useful purpose for our society.
01:21Everybody was keeping the same Sabbath day.
01:23It helped families stay together.
01:26It kept communities and neighborhoods all on the same page.
01:34You know, if you're all keeping the same Sabbath day, it means that nobody is shopping.
01:37Nobody's doing business on that day.
01:39This is the day when neighbors can get together and families can be together.
01:44So, I want to read a couple of pages from this chapter.
01:47Not pages, just a couple of paragraphs from the history of the Sabbath.
01:52The disappearance of Sabbath protections marked more than a legal change.
01:55It was a cultural shift.
01:56Sunday became indistinguishable from Saturday, the day of errands, games, consumption, and digital distraction.
02:03Historian James Smith is credited with noting that the weekly Cathedral of Time
02:07was quietly rezoned as a shopping plaza.
02:10The effects rippled beyond religion.
02:13Families found it harder to gather.
02:14Worship became optional.
02:16Youth sports.
02:17Leagues filled Sunday mornings once reserved for church.
02:20The steady hum of retail and entertainment diminished opportunities for shared stillness.
02:24Time was no longer sanctified.
02:26It was sold.
02:32I'm not going to say that there was a grand conspiracy to remove the Sabbath from our shared traditions.
02:43But, it's hard to avoid that conclusion in some ways.
02:47You know, I'm also not going to say that removing the Sabbath is what has really degraded our society
02:53and removed God from the public square.
02:56But, it was part of it.
02:58It was a really important factor.
03:00And, you know, Karl Marx said that in order to remake the world and society in its own, in this
03:09Marxist utopian image,
03:10which is really one of the most dystopian, horrifying visions for humanity anybody has ever invented,
03:16in order to do that, they first had to destroy the family.
03:21Because, the family is the single most important unit of a cohesive society.
03:28And, if communists were going to impose this totally unnatural state of affairs on all of humanity,
03:36first they had to destroy the natural state of mankind.
03:40And, the most natural state of mankind is the family.
03:45So, even though Sunday wasn't, isn't God's Sabbath,
03:49it still served a really useful purpose in helping families stay together.
03:53Kids weren't off at school.
03:55They weren't off doing sports.
03:57Nobody had to work that day.
03:58So, everybody got to be home.
04:00Everybody went to church together.
04:03And, when this Sabbath day was, you know, all the protections were removed,
04:11then, communists and capitalists were essentially working together to destroy the family.
04:18The Sabbath was this glue that kept families and neighborhoods, whole communities,
04:23on the same page, moving in the same direction, on the same rhythm.
04:28And, once you remove that, it starts to fall apart.
04:31You know, all of God's commandments regarding the Sabbath say that you are to ensure that your children
04:39and your wife and your servants, everybody that you are responsible for, takes this same day off.
04:48So, when we complain that our public schools and Hollywood and politicians or whoever
04:54are tearing family apart and undermining our, the moral fabric of America or whatever country you live in,
05:02what are you doing about it?
05:03Are you keeping the Sabbath?
05:04I mean, that's one of the most basic things.
05:06God created Adam and Eve.
05:08He created mankind.
05:10Put them together.
05:11He told them to be fruitful and multiply, and then He gave them the Sabbath.
05:15That's not a coincidence.
05:18So, if you want to hold your family together,
05:21if you want to hold your community together and reinstate public moral standards,
05:27start keeping the Sabbath.
05:29And, if everybody keeping the wrong day as the Sabbath
05:32was such a powerful factor in holding people together
05:36and keeping our culture all on the same page,
05:39just imagine how much more powerful
05:43the seventh-day Sabbath, God's Sabbath, would be if we all kept it together.
05:48Keep God's Sabbath with God and your family on the same day,
05:53and you will start to see your family coming together again.
05:57Get your neighbors to do it.
05:59Get everybody you know to keep the seventh-day Sabbath all together,
06:03and we will start rebuilding our culture along the lines that God intended,
06:08not that these crazy utopianists want it to be rebuilt around their horrific vision
06:16of people as cogs in a giant machine
06:18to be molded and remade according to their own image, their own fantasies.
06:23We were created for a purpose.
06:26And when we try to get out of that purpose,
06:28try to get out of the mold that God made us for,
06:30things start to break, not just in our society,
06:33but in our own hearts and in our minds.
06:35There's so much insanity in the world
06:37because we are so far removed from living the way that God means us to live.
06:42And getting back to the Sabbath is a vital part
06:45of restoring the mold that we're supposed to be living in.
06:50You want your kids to be sane?
06:52You want to stop all this trans-sanity?
06:56Start by restoring the Sabbath in your house.
