00:00All righty.
00:05Get the leg work out.
00:07Today, we've got a whole new project rolling in.
00:10I've been avoiding the gym when the gym comes to find me at work.
00:13It's a Volkswagen Type 2 pickup that's over 50 years old, and its gas engine is dead.
00:20Hey, this thing's got some good pickup.
00:23The VW Type 2 van first rolled onto the streets in 1950.
00:28It came in a few variations, including the flatbed pickup.
00:32But only a few of these made it to America.
00:35While I marvel at German engineering and ingenuity, I can't wait to get this back on the road.
00:40It can be an excellent showpiece for some stuff I'm working on to improve efficiency and range.
00:45This is my bus ticket to the future.
00:53All right.
00:54Gotcha, what'd you get us into?
00:56Well, this client is a surfer, and so he doesn't like polluting.
01:01Okay.
01:02You know, he's a surfer. He cares about the environment.
01:04So, he wants it to be green, so we're gonna make it electric.
01:09We've got to give it at least a 200-mile range.
01:11I've seen other conversions of a Volkswagen bus that will go like 25 or maybe 60 miles.
01:16But this bus needs to be able to go 200 miles round trip to San Diego and go surfing.
01:21What that means is I have to optimize this vehicle.
01:24I have to put the most capacity I can fit in it with the most efficient motor I can.
01:28And wherever I can possibly make a change, somehow make it more efficient.

01:35You
