01:03Hello, welcome to From the South.
01:05I'm Sophie Fernandez from the Telesur Studios in Havana, Cuba.
01:08We'll begin with the news. Stay with us.
01:10Marked in one month since the United States' attack on Venezuela and the kidnapping of President Nicolás Maduro and First Lady Celia Flores,
01:29thousands of citizens mobilized in Venezuela to condemn this atrocious attack and demand the release of President Nicolás Maduro and the First Lady and Deputy Celia Flores.
01:38Tens of thousands of citizens came out to the streets of Caracas, Venezuela today on the one month anniversary of the U.S.
01:50government's kidnapping of Constitutional President Nicolás Maduro and First Lady Celia Flores.
01:56It was a massive show of support for Venezuela's socialist government and a show of force from the organized working class left.
02:05We are in the streets showing the imperialists that we are a land of peace, we are a land of love.
02:17And if this is what we have to do to guarantee the release of our president, we will be here in the streets, whether during the day or the night, holding vigils, praying, whatever it takes.
02:31We will keep coming out to the streets to defend our president.
02:35Shortly after releasing a national security strategy which promised to bring back the United States' imperialist Monroe Doctrine,
02:42it attacked multiple sites in Venezuela with missiles, killing 100 people, including civilians, in violation of international norms.
02:50While analysts in the Global North spread disinformation and predicted the collapse of the socialist government,
02:56the population rallied behind acting President Delcy Rodriguez with daily protests spreading across the country that have steadily been growing in size for the past month.
03:06We are demanding the release of Celia and Nicolás.
03:13Exactly one month ago, the US government, represented by the pedophile Trump, invaded Venezuelan soil, killing over 100 compatriots.
03:24We are mobilized and we will not leave the streets until they return our presidential couple to us.
03:31And we reaffirm our support for acting President Delcy Rodriguez Gomez.
03:36One month after the kidnapping of Constitutional President Nicolas Maduro and First Lady Celia Flores,
03:43the movement on the streets is only expected to continue to grow as people demand freedom for the kidnapped President of Venezuela and First Lady Celia Flores.
03:54Brian Meir, Tele Sir Caracas.
03:59Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro is defined by his absolute loyalty to the Bolivarian project
04:04and has risen from the union ranks to the presidency of Venezuela.
04:08Let's take a closer look at his life of the Venezuelan head of state.
04:13From his early militancy, he began his political career at the age of 12 in left-wing organizations such as Ruptura and the Socialist League.
04:21Under his union leadership, Nicolás Maduro worked as a metrobús driver in Caracas,
04:27where he was the founder and leader of the Public Transport Workers Union.
04:32The President was one of Commander Hugo Chávez's most trusted figures,
04:37playing strategic roles in the consolidation of the revolutionary movement.
04:42Nicolás Maduro grew close to Hugo Chávez after the 1992 military coup attempt,
04:49an event that paved the way for hope in change in a country submitted to extreme poverty
04:54as a result of the neoliberal government scheme.
04:57Maduro actively campaigned for the release of Commander Chávez.
05:02In key positions, he was a member of the 1999 National Constituent Assembly,
05:09President of the National Assembly between 2005 and 2006,
05:14and Foreign Minister between 2006 and 2012,
05:18where he consolidated regional integration mechanisms such as ALBA, Petrocaribe, UNASUR and CELAC.
05:26Some women may give history from the background, others from the tribune, and a few from the very heart of the hurricane.
05:33Cilia Flores has done all three, showing that the revolutionary woman is filled with love, fear, rewards, and still the grace.
05:41Let's learn more about the life of our First Lady, Cilia Flores de Maduro.
05:48Cilia Flores de Maduro has not been a figurehead or an appendage of power.
05:54She has been the backbone, the legal and political conscience, and also the emotional support of a process
05:59that has had to withstand more attacks than those that can be recorded in a war report.
06:04Her jump into national politics came at a crucial time.
06:09In 1992, after the civic military rebellion that Commander Hugo Chávez led,
06:14Flores was part of the team that defended the rebel military.
06:22Her role was fundamental in obtaining the presidential pardon in 1994,
06:26which consolidated her prestige as a legal operator of the emerging revolutionary moment.
06:32With the arrival of the Bolivarian Revolution to power,
06:37Celia Flores became one of the most influential figures in the new political scenario.
06:41She was elected to the National Assembly in the year 2000.
06:47Her parliamentary career reached a historic milestone in 2006,
06:51when she became the first woman to preside over the Venezuelan National Assembly,
06:55breaking yet no barriers in a space traditionally dominated by men.
07:00In 2012, she was appointed attorney general of the Republic,
07:05a position from which she defended the legal interest of the state
07:09in a context of growing international pressure.
07:12And now we have a short break coming up.
07:16But first, remember you can join us on TikTok at Telesur English,
07:19where you will find news in different formats, news updates and more.
07:22We'll be right back. Stay with us.
07:24Welcome back to From the South.
07:37One month after the United States military attack on Venezuelan territory,
07:41beyond the immediate impact on the country's infrastructure and internal stability,
07:46this event has tested the principles of sovereignty and non-interference,
07:50fundamental pillars of international law that Latin America defends as a guarantee of peace.
07:56Let's take a closer look in the following material.
07:59The impact of the military attack on Venezuelan territory and the kidnapping of President Nicolas Maduro and his wife Celia Flores
08:11is not limited to the borders of Venezuela.
08:14The global response of rejection has multiplied since January 3rd.
08:18The violation of Venezuelan sovereignty has led to a major international social mobilization.
08:23This is not just a matter of government positions, but a reaction by social movements,
08:27civil organizations, political groups and citizens in general,
08:30who have taken to the streets to reject violence and U.S. interference.
08:34The list of countries where popular demonstrations of support have been recorded is extensive and diverse.
08:46In Latin America, the Caribbean mobilizations have been reported in countries such as Cuba, Argentina,
08:51Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua,
08:57Panamá, Paraguay, the Dominican Republic, Uruguay, Barbados and more.
09:02In this country, social organizations have linked the defense of Venezuela with the protection of the region as a zone of peace.
09:09In North America, civil society groups as well as political organizations and even parties in the United States and Canada
09:16have expressed the rejection of the Trump administration's intervention in foreign policies.
09:22In Europe, popular solidarity was on display in the streets of Germany, Denmark, Spain, France, Greece, Italy, Sweden,
09:31and Switzerland, as well as in major urban centers such as London, among other cities.
09:37This demonstration highlighted a growing disconnect between the European people and a racist conservative political class
09:44that is submissive to the U.S. government.
09:46In other regions, popular support also spread to nations such as Yemen, Korea, Iran, Lebanon, South Africa, Turkey,
09:57evidencing a feeling of unity among the peoples of the global south and those who question the unilateral order.
10:03The impact of the attacks has been severe, but the activation of these popular movements at the global level shows that we expect for Venezuela's self-determination continues to be an international demand.
10:16Just to say, one month after the military attack against the country, Venezuela's acting president, Elcio Rodriguez, highlighted the maturity of the population in overcoming this event,
10:26and consolidating tranquility and peace.
10:29Acting president made these statements from the Miraflores Palace, accompanied by the Sectoral Vice President for Politics, Citizen Security and Peace, Captain Diostado Cabello,
10:39and the president of the National Assembly, Jorge Rodriguez, emphasizing that, in the face of external attempts to generate chaos in the nation,
10:47the people have recovered and taken important steps towards national unity.
10:52Similarly, she insisted that any controversy or diversions must be shameless strictly through dialogue and respect for international law.
11:00Rodriguez also confirmed that, as part of the process of overcoming differences,
11:05in telephone communications with U.S. President Donald Trump and his Secretary of State, Marco Rubio.
11:11Finally, Rodriguez reiterated that the fast forward for the Bolivarian Revolution is mutual respect in order to build a working agenda despite differences.
11:30And Venezuela's acting president, Elcio Rodriguez, threatened diplomatic ties with Italy, Qatar and Nicaragua,
11:35in a move that reaffirms the country's strategy of forming alliances with key players in Europe, the Middle East and Latin America.
11:42Elcio Rodriguez led the protocolary ceremonies at the Miraflores Palace, where she received the credentials of three new ambassadors, accredited to the country.
11:51The first to be received was the ambassador of Italy, Giovanni Umberto De Vito, whose accreditation consolidates a process of re-approachment begun at the end of 2023.
12:01Subsequently, the president received the credentials of the new ambassador of the State of Qatar, Salman Naveed Mura al-Baka Abdullah al-Kulaifi,
12:10in a ceremony that ratified the strategic alliance between the two nations.
12:15The day concluded with the reception of the designated ambassador of Nicaragua, Valesca Fiorella López Herrera.
12:22During the meeting, the cooperation agenda was reviewed and the commitment to regional integration was reaffirmed.
12:28Meanwhile, Venezuelans continued the great march for the release of President Nicolás Maduro and First Lady Celia Flores, expressing their commitment to sovereignty and freedom in Venezuela.
12:46Thousands of people representing several sectors of the Venezuelan society have been marching for months to Plaza Venezuela in Caracas,
12:54demanding the release of the Bolivarian couple, who were kidnapped by the United States Army on January 3rd and held since then in that country.
13:09For his part, Nicolás Maduro Guerra, member of the National Assembly, called on the Venezuelan people to guarantee unity in order to preserve peace in the country and promote the development of productive forces.
13:21Not a man, Maduro said it, Chavez said it, Chavez said it, Maduro said it, he is not a man, Chavez is not me, Chavez is a people, Chavez is your Venezuelan woman, Chavez is you, worker, student, farmer, young person, Chavez is all of us, Maduro is all of us, and Venezuela is all of us.
13:49And today more than ever we must guarantee unity for the peace of the country, for the development of the productive force, and so that every day, every day, we demand and keep the flame alive, the bonfire alive for the liberation of the one who is the shield of peace.
14:06Today we have peace, thanks to Nicolás who is there. He guarantees the peace of the country where he is. Nicolás and Celia will...
14:15Unsocial movements around the world hold solidarity events with Venezuela on Tuesday to mark the first months of imperialist aggression against a country, which killed over 100 people and resulted in the kidnapping of President Nicolás Maduro and First Lady Celia Flores.
14:30On Tuesday, a global protest took place at U.S. embassies in several countries, demanding the return of the presidential couple.
14:37These international expressions of solidarity support the demands of the Venezuelan people, who have been taken to the streets for a month to urge the immediate release of the constitutional president and the first lady and deputy.
14:49In this scenario, around 74 acts of solidarity take place on four continents throughout the day.
15:02Also, citizens in Spain call for the release of constitutional president Nicolás Maduro and First Lady Celia Flores.
15:09In Spain, different social organizations in several regions are demanding the immediate release of Venezuelan president Nicolás Maduro and his wife and National Assembly deputy Celia Flores.
15:19They also condemn the military intervention by the United States government in Venezuelan territory.
15:24It should be noted that they will pay tribute to the Hebrews who fell in defense of the Bolivarian homeland and sign the Book of Condolences.

15:58Welcome back. In the United States, former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will testify in the Congress investigation into the United States.
16:19Jeffrey Epstein case this month, in a highly controversial process that includes many prominent US political figures.
16:35On Tuesday, both politicians finalized an agreement with the House Republicans to testify on the Epstein case, after former President Bill Clinton has been featured prominently in the Epstein files.
16:47For months, the Clintons resisted subpoenas from the Committee, prompting threats from Congress to face criminal contempt charges that could carry heavy fines and even prison time.
16:59Hillary Clinton will testify before the House Oversight Committee on February 26, and Bill Clinton will appear on February 27, marking the first time that lawmakers have compelled a former President to testify.
17:12Last Friday, millions of new files relating to the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein have been released by the U.S. Department of Justice, the largest number of documents shared by the government since a law mandated their release last year.
17:30With 3 million pages, 180,000 images and 2,000 videos, the new documents linked the sex offenders network with many prominent figures worldwide, including thousands of references to U.S. President Donald Trump.
17:45Moreover, the files linked Epstein to former U.S. President Bill Clinton, former British Prince Andrew Mountbatten Windsor, Britain's former Ambassador to the U.S. Peter Mandelson, technology magnates like Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk, and former Colombian President Andres Pastrana.
18:02Moving on to Mexico, on Tuesday, President Claudia Sheinbaum stated during her morning press conference that this week her government will send aid to Cuba despite the U.S.'s coercive measures against the Caribbean island.
18:24The Mexican President stated that, in light of threats by the United States to impose tariffs on anyone who will send crude oil to Cuba directly or indirectly, they are seeking diplomatic channels to send petroleum to the island.
18:38In addition, the head of state ruled out tensions with the U.S. government over the decision to send aid to the Cuban people.
18:44In this regard, Sheinbaum assured that the process will be transparent and properly reported.
18:50In this scenario, Claudia Sheinbaum reaffirmed that Cuba, as a sovereign nation, maintains straight relations with many countries, and not only with Mexico, as the opposition claims.
19:00It depends on Cuba and the United States.
19:07It depends on Cuba and the United States.
19:11Cuba is an independent, sovereign country, as is the United States.
19:16Mexico has always set the table to be able to address any conflict.
19:23In Brazil, the Landless Workers Movement held a Tuesday at Tree Planting Day in several cities of the country, in solidarity with the peoples of Cuba and Venezuela.
19:33The event takes place amid the U.S. aggressions against Cuba, and one month after the kidnapping of Venezuela's constitutional president Nicolas Maduro and First Lady Celia Flores.
19:42During the Solidarity Day, the leaders of the movement said that the offensive of capitalism and imperialism against peoples fighting for their sovereignty, far from silencing them, threatens their collective resistance in the struggle for the self-determination of peoples and for a world free of exploitation.
19:59One of the trees was planted in the Venezuelan embassy in Brasilia.
20:03In Palestine, three people were killed and 15 were injured in Israeli forces in the last 24 hours.
20:31Mortars and the injured were transported to different hospitals across the besieged territory, most of which are only partially functional due to the Israeli attacks, which have limited operations.
20:42Despite the ceasefire agreement, the Israeli occupation has continued to violate the troops across various parts of the Gaza Strip, 116 days after it entered into force.
20:52This racist death toll in Gaza since the ceasefire was announced to 529, and the number of injured to 1,462.
21:01In addition, authorities announced that 717 bodies have been recovered from beneath the rubble.
21:07And like this, we have come to the end of this news brief.
