00:50Hello and welcome to From the South, I'm Alejandra Garcia from Telesur Studios in Caracas, Venezuela.
00:55We begin with the news, stay with us.

01:18for Asunción-Free and Peaceful Venezuela, led by acting president, Delsi Rodriguez.
01:23Convoys and out from every municipality in the state to Francisco Fajardo del Valle Avenue in the municipality of Garcia

01:35The opening meeting was attended by the first vice president of the National Assembly, Pedro Infante, Congresswoman America Perez, the
01:43priest William Mora, and the governor of a neo-Spartan state, Maricel Velasquez, among others.
01:49The event is part of this massive social movement launched on April 19th by all municipalities across the country to
01:56demand a country free of sanctions, defend national sovereignty, and promote unity and harmony among all social sectors.
02:09Well, since Saturday the state of Yaraqui also joined the Great Pilgrimage for a Venezuelan in peace and free of
02:15sanctions.
02:16Precisely, the massive caravan with over 2,000 motorcyclists set out from the central western region to demand the complete
02:24lifting of the unilateral coercive measures against the country.
02:28The general population of Yaraqui mobilized alongside artists, athletes, artisans, musicians, and young people.
02:35Leading this popular demonstration was the Minister of Communications and Information, Miguel Ángel Pérez Pirela, accompanied by the governor of
02:44the region, Leonardo Intosi, and other national and regional authorities,
02:48who also carried out a work agenda in the state that included assemblies and activities that sought to listen to
02:54the residents, gather proposals, and support the pilgrimage called for by Acting President El Cid Rodriguez.
03:08Also, Venezuela concluded its participation in the 2026 South American Youth Games in Panama by achieving a historic second place
03:18in the medal table.
03:19With a total of 33 gold, 21 silver, and 29 bronze medals, Venezuelan athletes broke the national record of 26
03:27gold medals set in Rosario in 2022.
03:31This performance positions the country as an emerging power in regional youth sports.
03:36This closing marks a milestone in the country's sport history.
03:58A group of participants in the second convoy of Solidarity Aid to Cuba visited the municipality of Caimanera in the
04:04province of Guantanamo in the east of the island.
04:07The participants visited a school where they donated lamps and school supplies and shared a musical exchange with the Huayacán
04:15Negro project.
04:16In addition, they delivered medicines to the Ramón López Peña Clinic to improve medical services for the community.
04:28Also, Venezuela sent a shipment of 25 tons of food and medicine to Cuba as part of the Love is
04:33Repaid with Love Solidarity campaign.
04:35This aid was collected in just 15 days thanks to the combined efforts of social movements, citizens and various regional
04:43institutions across the country.
04:45The Venezuela-Cuba Friendship and Mutual Solidarity movement described the donation as a show of resilience in the face of
04:52economic hardships and blockades.
04:54The organization emphasized that the shipment of these supplies aims to alleviate the basic needs of the Cuban people and
05:02strengthen the historical ties between the two nations.
05:05Finally, spokespeople affirmed that this action represents the tenderness of the two peoples and a powerful response based on unity.
05:13With this gesture, Venezuela reaffirmed its humanitarian support and its commitment to working alongside the island in building a model
05:22of mutual cooperation.
05:31Mexico's representative to the organization of American states, Alejandro Encinas, rejected the report by the Inter-American Commission on Human
05:39Rights on alleged labor violations in Cuban medical missions.
05:43Encinas emphasized that the report's findings cannot be generalized and pointed out that in Mexico, Cuban doctors receive salaries equivalent
05:52to those of national specialists.
05:54The Mexican diplomat also stated that these professionals enjoy freedom of employment and that their presence is driven by the
06:01need to fill vacancies in remote areas where there is a shortage of local staff.
06:06He defended medical cooperation with Cuba as a legitimate and solidarity based agreement while reiterating the importance of guaranteeing human
06:14rights without ignoring the specific circumstances of each country.
06:26And now we have a short break coming up.
06:28But first remember you can join us on TikTok at TeleCity English where you'll find news in different formats, news
06:33updates and much more.
06:34We'll be right back and stay with us.
06:46Welcome back to From the South.
06:48The Colombian government announced on Saturday night that it would launch a military and police offensive to dismantle the criminal
06:55structures operating in the Cauca Department, the southwest of the country,
06:59amid a violent escalation that has seen more than 10 attacks in just 24 hours.
07:03According to the Ministry of Defense, at least 14 people died and 38 were injured when a bomb exploded inside
07:11a bus in an area known as El Tunnel in the municipality of Cajibillo.
07:16The attack, which is attributed to the self-proclaimed major central state consisting of dissidents of the FARC who broke
07:24off from the peace process, also destroyed part of the Pan American highway.
07:29In response to the escalation in the electoral context, the state is offering rewards for information about the mastermind of
07:35the massacre, alias Marlon.
07:37Let's move on.
07:39Let's move on.

08:06federal assistant at unified Fight 돌 sent at, coorden pa ben,
08:07John also expressed, so
08:09Far we have reported 14 deaths and more than 38 injuries, including five minors.
08:15We continue to monitor the situation from our office.
08:19We extend our deepest sympathies to their families.
08:22This tragedy has plunged our community into deep mourning and filled it with grief.
08:35Venezuela's acting president, Delsi Rodriguez, on behalf of the country, condemned the terrorist
08:39attack carried out in the department of Cauca, Colombia. In a statement, the Venezuelan government
08:44announced that this act of criminal violence, which has claimed the lives of innocent citizens
08:50and left many injured, constitutes a flagrant violation of the population's right to life
08:56and a direct attack on the peace and stability of the sister Republic of Colombia. Rodriguez
09:01also expressed, we extend our deepest sympathy to the families of the final victims and wish
09:06the injured a speedy recovery.
09:14And now we go to the United States where the suspect of the incident at the White House
09:18correspondence dinner was detained. The suspect, called Thomas Allen, 31-year-old former teacher
09:25from California, is currently in custody of the FBI. During the incident, President Trump,
09:31First Lady Melania Trump, Vice President J.D. Vance, and other guests were evacuated from
09:36inside the Washington Hilton Hotel on Saturday evening, where the White House Correspondents'
09:41Association dinner was being celebrated. The Secret Service and other authorities swarmed the
09:48banquet hall as guests said. There were several loud noises heard inside the ballroom. Many
09:54attendees were seen ducking under tables with others who secretly evacuated in the room.
10:00This marked Trump's first time attending the dinner since 2015, putting his administration's
10:05soft and contentious relationship with the press on full public display.
10:15And after the incident, the President of the United States, Donald Trump offered a press conference
10:20in which he highlighted the rapid response of the protection services to the attack.
10:26The tape showing the violence of this thug that attacked our Constitution, and also showing
10:32how quickly Secret Service and law enforcement acted on our country's behalf, really did a great
10:39job. One officer was shot, but saved by the fact that he was wearing, obviously, a very good
10:47bulletproof vest. He was shot from very close distance with a very powerful gun.
10:55The person responsible for the shooting at the White House Correspondents' Dinner has already
10:59been charged with multiple offenses. Federal Prosecutor Janine Pirlo states that Cole Allen had
11:06a clear intention to cause harm. However, doubts about the event continue to grow. The attacker's
11:11home was searched just hours after the incident, which left only one security officer injured.
11:16Meanwhile, images circulating on social media continue to rise in doubt. Security experts
11:23are questioning the measures taken to protect President Trump, as well as shortcomings in
11:28the response. Some lawmakers have called for greater clarity from those responsible for
11:33Homeland Security. However, only one Attorney General has come forward to explain the suspect's
11:39action, who, as reported, is a 31-year-old teacher living in California.
11:54Firearm during a crime of violence and a second crime under 111, which is assault on a federal
12:02officer using a dangerous weapon. Now, as you all know, there was an individual, a uniformed
12:09secret service officer who was shot. Unfortunately, he is doing all right and he will be fine. But
12:17it is clear, based upon what we know so far, that this individual was intent on doing as
12:23much harm and as much damage as he could.
12:26One of the events that caught people's attention on Saturday night was the phone interview with
12:31Fox correspondent Aisha Hosnes, who asserted on air that the husband of the White House spokesperson
12:38had warned that something would happen and her broadcast was immediately cut off.
12:45I'll quickly tell you, I was sitting next to Caroline Levitt, the press secretary's husband.
12:51He was one of our guests. He was seated right next to me. And, you know, right as the dinner
12:57was
12:57starting, you know, the national anthem happened. And then he kind of leaned over and said, you know,
13:03I watched you on TV. You did a great job. You need to be very safe. And he was very
13:07serious when he said
13:08that to me. And he kind of looked around the room and he said, you know, there are some.
13:16Those who know the attacker, including friends and close associates, have expressed great surprise
13:21once his involvement was confirmed. He seemed just like a completely average guy. I mean,
13:28I never would have expected anything like this out of it. It's really just bizarre.
13:32I think I can't believe it.
13:34And you got the top expert also in the United States appeals. An appeal court authorized the
13:38implementation of the controversial SB4 law in the state of Texas, expanding the powers of police
13:43and local courts to detain and expel migrants in an integral situation. The new law criminalizes
13:49undocumented entry and allows judges to order deportations, a power that traditionally belongs
13:55to the federal government. Organizations nationally and internationally have questioned the legality
14:00of the measure, warning that it could prevent asylum applications and encourage discriminatory
14:05practices against landing communities. The judicial decision comes at a time of tightening immigration
14:10policy under the Trump administration and amid pressures from Governor Greg Abbott to strengthen
14:17cooperation between local and federal authorities on immigration matters.
14:29Also this Sunday, the US government under the Donald Trump administration proposed incorporating methods such
14:34as fire squads, electrocutation and gas asphyxiation to implement the death penalty for serious federal crimes.
14:41The measure presented by the Department of Justice in an official report addresses the difficulties in
14:48obtaining the drugs used in lethal injections and is part of the resumption of the death penalty
14:53promoted by the President Trump. The document also outlines the expansion of protocols and the streamlining of processes
15:01for carrying out sentences as well as authorizing new death penalty requests following the lifting of the moratorium
15:08established during the Joe Biden administration. According to authorities, these changes aim to
15:14guarantee the enforcement of legal executions, although the proposal has rekindled the debate over the use of methods
15:21considered controversial in the US judicial system.
15:30And now let's take a second short break before we want to invite you to visit our Facebook page

16:10Welcome back to From the South. Iran takes a harder military position amid the unilateral ceasefire
16:16agreed upon by the United States mediated by Pakistan. Iranian authorities have confirmed that they will not
16:22participate in a dialogue process marked by threats and lies. Colonel Ebrahim Solfagari, spokesperson for the
16:29general command of Qatam al-Anbiya confirmed this Sunday that they are preparing camps to detention enemy
16:35troops and their arsenal will be able to carry out the largest missile storm in the history.
16:46Iran and Oman also have strengthened their diplomatic ties following a meeting between Iranian foreign
16:52minister Abbas Arakshi and Sultan Haitham bin Tarek, during which they discussed the regional situation
16:58in light of the conflicts in the Middle East. Speaking from the city of Muscat, the Iranian diplomat
17:03expressed his appreciation for Oman's stance on regional security and the need to consolidate peace.
17:10The parties discussed mediation efforts with the goal of ending the current conflict in the Middle East.
17:15This meeting took place after the Iranian delegation held bilateral talks with Pakistani authorities
17:21amid the military escalation driven by the United States and Israel.
17:31Despite the difficulties caused by Zionist aggression, the municipal elections in Palestine ended with
17:36a vote turnout of over 53 percent. According to the Palestinian Central Electoral Commission,
17:42the election closed with 53.44 percent turnout, marking the first election since the genocide
17:48began in October 2023. The Commission noted that the new electoral law, which included an open list
17:54system and a mixed system, ensured the success of the process, resulting in 95 percent valid votes
18:01and 4 percent invalid votes. Despite the challenges, the process took place with the goal of consolidating
18:07the democratic path and strengthening the nation's institutional resilience.
18:17Gaza has become the most dangerous place in the world for children. In addition to the nearly 30,000
18:23children killed by Israeli occupiers and the more than 2,700 who might be buried under the rubble,
18:29the families of 200 children are reported them missing. In just the past month, at least the 25
18:35children between the ages of 3 and 10 have disappeared in Gaza. In March, the number reached 75.
18:42The Palestinian Center for the Missing says it has received around 200 reports of this kind. The mother of
18:49Mohammad Geban, just four years old, reported that her son went out to play with his brother and disappeared.
18:56She has been searching for him unsuccessfully for three weeks. The center states that what is happening
19:02to children is the result of a military campaign that has devastated schools, hospitals and water systems.
19:16Also, the government of Mali has imposed a night-time curfew in the capital, Bamako, following a series of
19:22attacks in the city and also other parts of the country. The measure will be in effect for three days,
19:28from 9 pm to 6 am, with the possibility of extension, while security checks are stepped up at various
19:34locations. According to official reports, armed groups linked to jihadism and successionist movements
19:42launched attacks against military and civilian facilities, including the international airport,
19:47where flights were temporarily suspended. The army stated that the situation is under control
19:53and asked the public to remain calm amidst the violence that has been affecting the country for several years.
20:06And one of the worst nuclear disasters humanity has experienced in recent decades occurred in
20:11Pripyat, Ukraine on April 26, 1986. In this regard, in 2016, the United Nations designated the date
20:19as the International Day of Remembrance of the Chernobyl disaster. The accident resulted in a very high
20:25number of deaths and injuries due to nuclear radiation. The tragedy was an event that took all its residents
20:32by surprise. They never imagined the magnitude of the problem, since after being evacuated, they thought
20:38they would resume their lives in a few days. However, the story turned out differently. After 40 years of
20:45that human error, the city of Pripyat is considered a ghost town. There, vegetation and large trees have
20:53grown back and nature was reclaimed part of that territory. However, high levels of radioactivity
20:59still possessed, making human life impossible.
21:08Pope Leo XIV remembers Sunday the Chernobyl nuclear plant accident in its 40th anniversary
21:13and warned about the risks inherent in the use of every more powerful technologies. Speaking from the
21:20window of the Apostolic Palace in the Vatican City, the High Pontiff also called for nuclear energy to be
21:26used excessively for peaceful purposes.
21:33Today marks the 40th anniversary of the tragic Chernobyl accident, which has left an indebtable
21:39mark on the conscience of humanity. It remains a warning of the risk inherent in the use of ever
21:44more powerful technologies. We entrust to God's mercy the victims and all those who still suffer the
21:51consequences. I hope that at every level of decision-making, discernment and responsibility
21:59will always prevail. May every use of atomic energy be in the service of life and peace.
22:08Also in this context, hundreds of people participated Sunday in a commemoration ceremony at a Moscow cemetery to
22:14pay tribute to those who died from deadly radiation exposure while trying to contain the aftermath of
22:21the Chernobyl nuclear plant accident 40 years ago. Dozens of people were killed in the immediate
22:27aftermath of the disaster, while 30 workers died within months from either the explosion or acute radiation
22:34sickness. However, the long-term death toll from radiation poisoning is believed to numbers in the
22:41thousands. The accident exposed the millions in the region to dangerous levels of radiation and forced a
22:47wide-scale permanent evacuation of hundreds of towns and villages in Ukraine and Belarus. About 600
22:55thousand people, often referred to as Chernobyl's liquidators, were sent in to fight the fire at the
23:02nuclear plant and clean up the worst of its contamination. Those who perished, those who are no longer with us,
23:14are heroes who must never be forgotten. These people understood exactly what they were getting themselves
23:20into. Admittedly, there were perhaps a couple of those who refused, who did not want to go to the plant,
23:29but for the most part, everyone was eager to rush in, ready to shield the site with their very bodies.
23:36I don't recall the exact number now, either 14 or 16 officers under my command. Today,
23:43only three of them remain alive. It was not a life of ease that claimed them. Naturally,
23:47there is a sense of the immense tragedy that befell us back then.
23:53And after this information, we have come to the end of this newspeak. If you remember,
23:58you can find this and many other stories on our website at telesurenglish.net. Also,
