00:00Caracas celebrated the launch of the Programme for Co-existence and Peace, led by acting
00:18President El Cid Rodriguez and members of the executive branch. In the United States,
00:25protests continue across the nation against the immigration policies of the
00:29Trump administration and to demand the retreat of ISIS troops of their territories.
00:38Representatives from Russia, Ukraine and the United States held Friday the first round
00:43of direct negotiations in the city of Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates.
00:53Hello, welcome to From the South. I'm Sofia Fernanda from Natal Azul Studios in Havana, Cuba.
00:58We'll begin with the news. Stay with us.
01:13In Venezuela, Acting President El Cid Rodriguez launched the Programme for Co-existence and Peace,
01:17with the goal of holding an immediate meeting with all political sectors in the country.
01:21The meeting was intended to strengthen peace in Venezuela, unified political and social actors
01:26to move forward in a single direction in which the nation is prioritized. For her part, Rodriguez
01:32indicated that the intention is to eradicate social, political and economic expressions that
01:37incite hatred, as these have led to very dangerous situations for the country. She also said that
01:43next Monday, January 26th, she will be in contact with the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights
01:49to discuss the implementation of policies based on respect for the Venezuelan people.
01:54But a second step, and I want to call President of the National Assembly, Dr. Jorge Rodriguez,
02:07in his condition of President of the Council of Sovereignty and Peace of Venezuela, to call
02:14immediately to the meeting with all of the political sectors of the country, political sectors that
02:25coincide and those who diverge, opposition, political opposition, and to call to a true political dialogue
02:33with results that are concrete, immediate, and for that political dialogue to have a last name,
02:40to be a Venezuelan political dialogue where the orders, the outside orders are not imposed,
02:48not from Washington or Bogota or Madrid, no, for it to be a political dialogue that is
02:55Venezuelan and nationalized, that is what the country asks for, for the common good of Venezuela.
03:04Acting President Elcio Rodriguez also presented a 100-day plan to monitor violence and hate speech
03:09as part of a strategy to address the consequences of sanctions imposed by the U.S. government.
03:15And to do a plan of 100 days, the first 100 days of this plan and program for the coexistence
03:25and peace that we'll have as the first has, the mapping of violence and political, economical
03:30and social hate in Venezuela. It must be done. See where we are, Angel Prado, in the communities,
03:38where is the peace, the judges of peace, the justice of peace, the neighbors' justice, where we are and
03:45where are we starting from an external economical aggression that this republic had never known,
03:54but that we have lived since the year 2015, with impositions of unilateral coercitive measures
04:02that are illegitimate sanctions, but exist in Venezuela and that have created a tremendous weight
04:10in the economical life of the country, but has also generated important social wounds in our homeland.
04:17Venezuela's Acting President Elcio Rodriguez also promoted a reform of the country's justice system.
04:23In the context of the announcement of the release of more than 600 people from prisons.
04:31I call to the reflection and I open the doors to all of the Venezuelan sectors of academia,
04:41non-academia, from the communities and from the communal circuits, the judges of peace,
04:48the neighborhood movement, for us to think in a model of criminal justice that is alternative,
04:56where poverty is not punished, when the poor are not punished for being poor,
05:02it is an immediate asking. And in this process, this political process that we live,
05:08I also want to inform that today, till today, 626 people have been released.
05:17In other news, the Brazilian Landless Workers Movement, MST, closed its 14th National Congress,
05:25with the participation of Brazilian President Luis Inácio Lula da Silva.
05:29The President expressed the existence of the social movement MST, now celebrating its 42 years,
05:35highlighting its willingness to fight for social justice and against the harmful agority business.
05:40At his speech during the closing event, Lula slammed the U.S. military attack on Venezuela
05:46and the kidnapping of Fresia Nicolás Maduro and First Lady and the Epictive Celia Flores,
05:50stressing that Latin America is a zone of peace.
05:53The MST, the largest social movement in the continent, has been for decades a strong actor
05:58in defense of solidarity among the peoples of the Global South, regional sovereignty and fair access to land.
06:10Honestly, every night I'm abraded by what happened in Venezuela. I can't believe it.
06:18Maduro knew there were 15,000 U.S. soldiers in the Caribbean Sea.
06:22They knew there were threats every day. There were threats every day.
06:26He knew there were threats every day.
06:28He knew there were threats every day.
06:32I mean, the guys enter Venezuela at night, break into Nicolas Maduro's barracks,
06:40and take Maduro away, and no one knew that Maduro was gone.
06:43I mean, it's not possible.
06:45It's a lack of respect for the territorial integrity of a country that doesn't exist in South America.
07:00South America is a territory of peace.
07:02We don't want, we don't have nuclear weapons.
07:05We don't have atomic bombs.
07:06We only have poor people who want to work, who want to live, who want to eat, who want to have lunch,
07:13who want to have dinner, who want to study.
07:16We don't want war.
07:17What we have to show you is our character and our dignity.
07:19And now we have a short break coming up.
07:26But first, remember, you can join us on TikTok at Telesur English,

09:51which have large immigrant and refugee communities, particularly from Africa.
09:55Community leaders said that, like in other U.S. cities where AIDS has increased its operations,
10:01some families are staying indoors, avoiding work,
10:03and keeping children home from school, for fear of arrest.
10:06A powerful winter storm is sweeping across nearly half of the United States,
10:27bringing heavy snow, extreme temperatures and potential ice.
10:31The disaster has affected approximately 230 million people in nearly all 50 states,

10:54downed trees and extremely dangerous road conditions,
10:57and freezing temperatures that can set in within minutes due to the extreme cold.
11:03Meteorologists warn that the damage, especially in areas affected by ice,
11:07could be comparable to that of a hurricane.
11:19In other news, France is one of a growing number of nations considering banning social media for children,
11:25as experts warn of the mental health dangers social media poses to young people.
11:30Countries worldwide are viewing social media platforms like TikTok, Instagram, Facebook and YouTube as harmful to young people.
11:38Experts said social media can be good for creativity, building communities and connecting marginalized groups,
11:44like neurodevelopers of LGBTQ children.
11:47However, they also recognize the potential for harm for children.
11:50On Monday, the French National Assembly will debate a ban on social media for people under 15.
11:57Meanwhile, the UK and Denmark are considering similar legislation.

12:27announced its aspiration to join the United States and China as one of the three major AI powers.
12:32The law requires companies to notify users when their products or services use generative AI.
12:39It also stipulates that they must clearly label continent,
12:43including deepfakes, that cannot easily be distinguished from reality.
12:48Passed in December 2024,
12:49the law aims to establish a secure and reliable foundation to support AI innovation,
12:54according to a statement from the South Korean Ministry of Science and ICT.
13:02Meanwhile, on Friday, authorities announced that Chinese rescue teams had retrieved 17 Filipino crew members

14:20Representatives from Russia, Ukraine, and the United States
14:34held Friday their first round of direct negotiations in the city of Abu Dhabi,
14:38in the United Arab Emirates, on Friday.
14:41The talks come after Russian President Vladimir Putin met with his U.S. officials in Moscow,
14:46and Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with President Trump in Davos.
14:51Kremlin spokesman Dimitri Veskov said earlier this week that the three lateral talks would focus on security issues
14:59and retreating Moscow's stance that lost in peace requires withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from Donbass,
15:05a condition Kiev rejects.
15:07Although no official statements were issued after the first day of talks concluded,
15:12a White House official told NBC News that the meeting had been productive.
15:16The second trilateral meeting is scheduled to be held on Saturday.
15:20In other news, the Iranian Ministry of Intelligence successfully dismantled a terrorist network in Tehran,
15:33where at least 16 people involved in criminal riots were arrested.
15:37The agency reported that the operation was carried out in the last 24 hours,
15:42in cooperation with Tehran Intelligence and the Security Department.
15:45The authorities emphasized that during the operation, eight of those arrested were the main perpetrators of these attacks,
15:51on security targets, and the burning of government and private vehicles.
15:55Iranian intelligence also reported the seizure of military weapons, drugs and alcoholic beverages.
16:01Meanwhile, the Iranian government has denounced as false the United States' accusation of executions during the protests.
16:16The Iranian Prosecutions Office said that the U.S. President's statements about stopping the execution of 800 people is completely false.
16:25It explained that no such figure exists, and that the judiciary has not made any decision in this regard.
16:32The agency emphasized that it operates independently and does not obeyed orders from foreign governments.
16:37This came after U.S. President Donald Trump threatened a military invasion of the Persian nation.
16:42For its part, the Iranian Foreign Ministry stated that the resolution issued by the European Parliament on human rights violations in Iran
16:56contains incorrect allegations and unfounded statements.
17:00Tehran assures that the European Congress has not made a statement in favor of Palestine and international law,
17:06despite the violations and crimes committed by Israel.
17:08Meanwhile, its resolution only reflects a flood and contradictions that deprived the European Parliament of credibility
17:15in these statements related to human rights.
17:25On Thursday, the United Nations Organization reported that more than 134,000 people have been displaced in northeastern Syria
17:34as part of the recent clashes between government forces and Kurdish groups.
17:39The International Organization for Migration reports a sharp source in displaced individuals from Haasekhez province,
17:47reaching nearly 135,000 in the last three days.
17:51The Syrian government and the Syrian Democratic Forces agreed to a temporary ceasefire,
17:55but the agency warned that 42,000 people remain housed in collected shelters and face urgent needs,
18:02especially for food and basic supplies.
18:05Reports indicate some displaced people are returning to Aleppo following a decrease in fighting
18:10and ongoing diplomatic efforts to stabilize the region.
18:13Meanwhile, Iraqi military forces reinforced the deployment of the border with Syria,
18:25with the demonstrating security and protection measures.
18:28In the province of Nibine, in northwestern Iraq, military units were mobilized,
18:33focused on preventing any possible border violations.
18:37Authorities said the deployment of military forces sent a message of tranquility to the peoples of the world,
18:42indicating that Baghdad is committed to maintaining the well-being of the people.
18:46The military movement comes amidst the occupation of Syrian forces of areas
18:50that were controlled by Kurdish forces in northeastern and eastern Syria.
19:12The United Nations Special Rapporteur on Palestine, Francesca Albanese,
19:23has described Israel's demolition of the Urwa headquarters in Al-Quds as an attack on the United Nations system.
19:30In a statement issued on Friday, the UN Special Rapporteur on the Occupied Palestinian Territories
19:36expressed her dismay at the ongoing destruction carried out by the Israeli government without any restrictions.
19:43She also lamented the systematic dismantling of the United Nations and international law,
19:47a process that is unfolding before the world's eyes.
19:51Last Tuesday, Israeli forces stormed the Urwa headquarters in East Jerusalem's Sheikh Ha'ra neighborhood
19:57and demolished the compound using bulldozers and heavy machinery.
20:01And like this, we have come to the end of this June's brief.
