00:24telling you a little bit about myself while I packed for my trip to Chicago for the Essence
00:28and Ulta Beauty Beautiful Possibilities program.
00:34The reason I chose to apply for the Essence Beautiful Possibilities program is not only
00:38because it's an amazing opportunity, but it also combines a lot of things that I'm already
00:42passionate about, such as beauty, videography, and female empowerment.
00:46I kind of was hesitant to do it because I was like, I'm so stressed out over here doing
00:51college apps. Do I have time to do this?
00:53I saw it as an excellent way to learn about the beauty industry and to gain a mentor.
00:57I've always known that I was meant to spread positivity and inspire others, and I saw this
01:00as a perfect opportunity to do so.
01:06So it's no secret that the beauty industry is heavily influenced by Eurocentric beauty standards.
01:11So if I were to make an advancement in the beauty industry, it would be to not only to cater
01:16to women of lighter skin tones, but also to cater to women of darker skin tones.
01:19And yes, there are new emerging lines which are becoming more open-minded to the diverse
01:24complexions of darker toned people, but I believe that it should be a universal thing throughout
01:29the beauty industry.
01:30I want to see more black women owning major makeup companies and more women with natural
01:35hair represented in the industry, because our natural hair is absolutely gorgeous.
01:39To me, true beauty is when you're confident enough to stand in your truth, own your personal
01:48style, and share your light with others.
01:50Beauty is more than just your outward appearances.
01:53It comes from within, and it can be seen in the way you treat others.
01:56I'm super excited to be in Chicago.

02:05It's going to be very cold, and I'm an LA girl.
02:08I'm not used to that type of weather, so it's going to be an experience, but I'm super excited.
02:12To prepare for Chicago weather, I'm definitely going to bring my boots.
