The girls have a Q&A session with The Glam Twinz
Transcript
00:00you guys have any questions for us yeah actually so what are your favorite current beauty trends
00:10favorite current beauty trends honestly a lot of the times I don't pay that close attention to the
00:16trends I feel like we set our own most of the time we just do what we want to do but I love
00:22matte eyes I just started wearing matte eyes a lot more that's more her thing and I feel like I picked
00:27up on that from her we kind of inspire each other sometimes she'll have a look and I'll see it I'm
00:31like oh I kind of want to do that so I've really been liking matte eyes and also when I hear the
00:36word trends I feel like it's the way to market new things because history always repeats itself
00:40so now I'm into the soft glam look which is just a very put-together neutral look pretty so yeah
00:46it's just more exaggerated and like if you go on YouTube and you type in soft glam like it's neutral
00:52makeup pretty much they just want you to think it's something different like when people say oh
00:55I love florals for spring and they've been doing that for 10 years now so whatever a trend is to
01:01you I feel like you can kind of turn it into a trend because I feel like that's what they're meant for
01:05yeah throughout your whole like journey on YouTube and Instagram and all of that do you have a favorite
01:11experience that like stands out to you I would say my favorite experience is meeting subscribers
01:17yeah when we do meet and greets because you actually get to be up close and personal with the
01:22people who watch you and they're not just looking at you from a computer screen or a phone screen you
01:27get to like really connect with them so I think I really like meeting subscribers and for us in
01:31the beginning it didn't feel real until we met the people who were actually watching us yeah so like
01:36in that moment it made us feel like we were doing something right and we didn't really doubt ourselves
01:41when we went back to work on camera yeah so I feel like it just kind of went hand in hand with what
01:45our purpose was in the industry so definitely meet and greets well going off of Nelly what made you
01:52guys want to start makeup and share your makeup journey on YouTube to begin with well we'll get
01:57a lot of questions from friends at school they would ask like oh how did you do that winged liner or what
02:02did you use we'll also get a lot of hair questions because that's why we initially started YouTube
02:06because we started transitioning and you know the whole natural hair thing was like starting out then and
02:13we were like the only people at school walking around with like twist styles they were like what
02:17are you doing to your hair so even if you think you're doing something crazy or different believe
02:22me people are paying attention to you and they're going to be wearing it later yeah so the same
02:26people who make fun of you for it now they're going to be like that looks familiar yeah where'd you get
02:31that from yeah so yeah so basically people asking questions and asking tips and then Kendra was like we
02:36should start a YouTube channel I was like no no thank you yes when it comes to makeup and when it comes to
02:43makeup we were just watching YouTube videos and I was like I just want to learn how to do this on
02:47myself so I was just intrigued by like the before and after yes that's my favorite part so the
02:52transformation for me is what intrigued me yeah um so you guys have created this giant influence on
02:58Instagram and YouTube and you've really brought diversity into the makeup world do you think that
03:03your kind of impact as women of color especially of a darker skin tone has encouraged big beauty brands
03:09um to make more diverse shades of course I feel like that's like our duty honestly because we're
03:14showing a different like a different type of beauty because I feel like beauty is um I feel like it's
03:21yes different to everybody yes so what might be beautiful to someone might not be beautiful to
03:25another person but I feel like if you just embrace what's different about you other people will start
03:29to embrace what's different about you as well because if you think something about yourself other
03:33people will think it too you have to you know convince yourself before you can convince other
03:37people yes and I feel like inclusion in general when we thought of like because honestly when we
03:43started YouTube we never really thought about oh it's black it's black girls at the time we weren't
03:47thinking like oh other black girls are gonna see this and think oh I can do this we were just being
03:51ourselves ourselves yeah and not really knowing what we were doing innately the impact we were gonna have
03:57the responsibility to actually realized it after we were already in it mm-hmm because at the time when
04:03we started we were like 19 mm-hmm so we didn't realize the impact we would have years later mm-hmm but
04:08I think that has benefited us yes so many way a big difference with dark brown girls around the world
04:13yes it helps a ton it helps a ton to see girls that look like yes on bigger platforms because it makes
04:19them feel like they have a purpose and they can do it you know as well so and to reflect what you see
04:25like everywhere you go because there's not just one race of people when you go around the world
04:29mm-hmm so you want to feel like you because when you're when you're we think you're different you
04:33don't feel like you belong the way I feel like you see other people who look like you it just feels
04:38like the norm yeah I should just make people feel comfortable in their own skin and I feel like no
04:42one will really make it a big deal because I feel like at some point people made inclusion feel
04:47like a trend or what's hot right now and it should be just in the norm yeah yeah so that's why I
04:53thought we didn't really think about it like that in the beginning because for us we were just doing
04:57us and I feel like when you have passion behind something you just create magic regardless yeah
05:03definitely yeah mm-hmm what is some advice that you would give like especially like people of color
05:08that really want to like be in the beauty industry I would say be yourself honestly because I feel like
05:14as long as you're you're yourself someone's gonna see themselves in you don't try to act like someone
05:19that's already out there they're them for reasoning or you for a reason so I would just say just continue
05:25to be yourself mm-hmm so I have a question for you guys do you think that being twins helped like push
05:32you in the YouTube world in the beauty industry more than like just you being like alone yourself in on
05:38YouTube I think it did it set us apart because at the time I think we were the only twins and black
05:44twins at that on YouTube so I feel like that did help us stand out a lot and we feed off of each
05:49other's energy a lot as well so I think that really helped us stand out and it was something
05:53that we used to look at as a negative because people would just see us as twins and not as
05:58Kelsey and Kendra but it's something that we've embraced with in like YouTube and it also gave
06:04people a chance to get to know us separately as well yeah and actually twins are pretty common these days
06:09so it gave other twins a chance to feel like they can be individuals because when we first approached it
06:14we thought it would be kind of a blessing and a curse because people every time I would do something they
06:18would be like oh Kelsey should do that or when Kelsey would do something like Kendra when are you going
06:22to do this I'm like well I'm not Kelsey yeah so they can't just make assumptions about like us doing
06:28the same thing or being the same person because we're two separate people but we share a lot of
06:31common interests so I think it's good to share that as far as siblings too because not even twins
06:36like when just sisters in general yeah I feel like positive sister bond yeah and support yeah it's
06:42like you guys have like a super like you have like a whole bunch of you're like the whole package you have
06:46like everything in one you have like the color the twins the you reach out to like so many different
06:52people
