00:00The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission has flagged various governance weaknesses in Kuala Lumpur City Hall,
00:07including in the distribution of business licenses.
00:11MACC Deputy Chief Commissioner Azmi Kamaruzaman said these weaknesses were uncovered following checks of various agreements
00:18between DBKL and companies appointed to manage projects and services under the local government.
00:24He pointed to one agreement with a company tasked with monitoring and managing various business licenses issued by DBKL.
00:35He said the agreement had various weaknesses in governance practices and systems,
00:40and the most apparent one was that no panel was appointed to monitor the execution of services and the performance of the contractor.
00:49Azmi said this could allow corruption and the misappropriation of funds to take place,
00:54and that plugging such loopholes was crucial to curbing graft.
00:59He said such a situation should never have happened in a large and influential public institution like DBKL,
01:06adding that there were many corruption cases probed by MACC that involved a local council.
